Marty, you're probably one of the best instructors on RUclips. Your pace is fast enough not to bore an audience, but slow enough that people can keep up. Instructions are clear, and each step is clearly illustrated instead of assuming people are familiar enough with menus to instinctively know where to find things. Great video, as always.
Finally, an easy to understand and follow tutorial. I’ve been struggling with the pen tool and have watched a lot of tutorials. But not one of them mentioned the curvature tool. I’m so glad I found your video. Thank you 😊
Thank you for this clear and concise explaination! While I've seen dozens of tutorials about the pen tool, I've generally been disappointed with my attempts to master it, resorting, instead to grabbing the polygonal lasso tool; zooming in, and then just slowly add new points along the rasterized shape I was following. I know this seems very dumb and tedious, but I'd get so annoyed trying to understand how to properly use the pen tool that it seemed the polygonal lasso tool was faster than the wasted time I spent trying to correct what I was doing with the pen tool. Sad me. Anyway, I've not been using Photoshop regularly for the last number of years, so I guess I never even realized that that added this new feature. Again, I appreciated this tutorial. 'Wondering if this same pen tool is available in Adobe Illustrator?
Marty i think you have convince me to up grade, because i have been using CS5 for ages now, and noway cs5 has this tool..... I can do so much more with the Curvature Pen Tool. thanks again for a wonderful tutorial .
Thank you Marty! So I'm inferring that the Curvature tool is only for defining edges of a shape that will get filled in with color, (having no second dimensionality) as opposed to the other drawing tools with allow the user to draw a line and then define its thickness as it's own "object." Is there any workaround, allowing it to be defined as a line & then 'thickify' it?
The Curvature Pen Tool has the same functionality as the regular Pen Tool. In other words, we adjust the size, color, and other characteristics of the work path.
Since i started subbing you , i watch to your videos almost everyday to make my ps editing improve and now i learned allot from you . Thanks for the help 🤗
Hi thank you for the video, useful as usual, unfortunately I have an issue, I'm not allowed to change thickness and color of the path (I'm on PS 2020 21.2.4), tried everything but can't figure out what could be the problem... any clue or suggestion? thank you so much!
I don't know what I am doing wrong, when I try to change the color, it just goes lighter or darker gray, no matter what color I choose. I watched that part of the video like 5 times and did exactly what you did but I still can't change the color.
@@BLTV_Photoshop I had it there, but I found out the problem, the pen was all the time on exclude overlaping shapes and not on combine shapes. Thanks for the totorial.
Can you please tell me why when I have a complex path created with the standard pen tool, and then I switch to the curvature pen tool that some of my paths automatically straighten? It is very obnoxious that once I have the paths I want created, then want to switch to the curvature pen tool only a select few of my perfectly placed paths are straightened. I mean what is up with that? I'm sure it's just a simple setting hidden somewhere, but I don't know where. What's worse it won't let me undo it and the curve handles basically become uneditable with the standard pen tool. Luckily, the curvature pen tool will generally fix them, but it's just the point why it's changing my paths just by me changing the tool. And I don't want to use the curve pen tool for all my paths. Most things I just find the original easier to use. I have been searching for an answer but have not found one.
@@BLTV_Photoshop I realized that it wasn't too bad...I'm just a very fiery person when things don't go the way I want mid work. Unfortunately I was trying to edit the straight lines with the standard pen tool, but I realized once I switched to the curve pen tool and the lines straightened, it quickly allowed me to just reshape them using the curve pen tool...which frankly I don't know why I didn't try that in the first place. It is strange though, but I can probably work with that for now. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me though!

Meanwhile, you are very good. I tried to follow the steps, but when I click on shape, it creates a layer but empty without the black shape of the fish inside and if I click on it to change the color and change it nothing happens. So I'm stuck at that point. Thank you
@@BLTV_Photoshop wrong, I can't understand, the foreground color is black / white, other parameters I don't know what is not selected or not selected to create the layer with the black shape. To me it continues to create an empty level where obviously I can not do anything, it is useless. Thank you
