But split into two floors" even though he is trying to say we aren't that different but live in different worlds, he himself isn't even realizing that by thinking of different floors he puts one of the two races above the other. When the black guy is saying the same line he is saying " we live in the same building but split into different sides" implying we live in different worlds but on the same level.
I appreciate your thorough breakdown of the song. You're one of the few reactors who grasped one of the deep layers of the song. The irony in the I'm not racist adlibs. And, I the black guy definitely did defend himself more than anything. But don't get it twisted, the black guy is also portraying racial stereotypes on the white guy. Which a lot of people don't or refuse to pick up on. I LOVE your bit about the n-word. Like, I'm black. Grew up in inner city philly. But even I hardly use it. Because a lot of the black people I'm around are offended by it REGARDLESS of the skin color of the person using it. So, in order to foster relationships and love I don't use it. And, I agree about the bit about making the song political. Not every republican is racist. A lot of black people I know personally don't understand that. I appreciate you saying that. A lot of people shit on this video. But, I think it is good Joyner put this out. If nothing else at all the video starts discussion. Which is what we need. We won't get anywhere fighting, or even worse, ignoring the issues. We have to talk to each other.
8:18 Why can black people say cracker but white people can't say the n word? How black do you have to be to say the n word? If your mom is white but your dad is black can you use it? What if you don't look black? What if one parent is half and half and another is black but you look white? Can you use the n word then or do you have to explain that you're mostly black because someone got offended with you saying it because you didn't look black?
Can we all take a moment to realise how this hit our artist. The moments when your throat caught. And your eyes wandered. They’re still not ready for that conversation, but it’s about time for it. I know racism exists and I haven’t dealt with it from my neighbors. They’re going through the same systematic nonsense that I am. Got White, Black, Latino, and Middle Eastern neighbors. One family is a Hare Krishna household. None of them have ever been racist toward my mixed family.

Me too and i thought the other dude was a featuring rapper. But if the black guy had started I would have probably thought that he was joyner thats just how the brain works.
It doesn't matter how many times I listen to this song I can't help but to feel a lot of anger and sadness at the same time! It's such a masterpiece 🙏🏻🔥
As a white man that grew up in the inner city of New York I use to ignorantly use the N word. (I had a pass) iykyk lmao I ended up going to prison for 7 years and an old head sat me down and told me, "I understand that you aren’t like most of these whiteboys in here but I don’t like my own brothers using that word so I’d respectfully ask you to not use that word around me." He went more in depth then that but it woke me up a bit. I haven’t said the N word since.
It's been a couple of years and I still cannot hear this song without crying. When it came out, I made my daughters watch it several times. Until we can see from each others' viewpoint, we will remain divided. Your reaction/breakdown was excellent. You gained a subscriber.
Joyner paid homage to Masta Ace, a rapper I put in my top 3 of all time when he said "I see a black man aiming his gun, but I'd rather see a black man claiming his son". Masta Ace said that on his song called Beautiful.
Prediction. This reaction thing is a stepping stone to something else and bigger. You have some great thoughts but your strength is how you express them. You explain things very well and clearly.
About time we got this reaction! This was my first Joyner song I ever heard! Love it 🙌🏻🙌🏻 This is also a song where you HAVE to watch the video to truly understand the song even more.

The great thing about this song is that it brings up real issues and real ideas and doesn't try to choose a side. It allows the viewer to decide where they fall.
First off mad respect, I love your reaction breakdowns. The love and knowledge you drop into every video is staggering especially your ERB series. I've surfed RUclips reactions for a while now, but I always find myself back here so as of today I am subscribed. I would love to see more Joyner reactions; the man is dope and sorely underrated. Devil's Work, I'm Sorry, and Ross Copicchioni are just a few that need your reaction treatment.
Just want to say it's SO refreshing to see someone else actually nod the internal rhythm create between the track and the lyrics. Its like hearing 'the silent beats'. Lol, people always ask why I nod to tracks like this, and I always say *"there's an implied intrinsic rhythm",* and people look at me like I'm crazy.
I think if both sides started taking down those barriers and stopped assuming the worst from each other (like when the black guy said that when a white guy says "niggar" there's a hidden meaning under, but when a black guy says it, it's just their a way of greeting each other, or all the drug stuff the White Guy said) we'd be able to hash out any differences. Instead, everyone is just holding on to those barriers and expecting everything to just work out. Sure, some people are trying to fix things, but there are just as many not. But trying to keep things exclusive to your race is part of the problem, keeping those barriers up. Regardless of how the word "nigger" is spelled, it came from the same place. By not letting the meaning change, it's keeping racism associated with the word. By keeping the meaning the same, you can never get past it. I'm a firm believer that anyone should be able to say anything, as long as they're not trying to hate on someone/a race. I also believe any people should be able to enjoy the culture and slang of any other peoples. By claiming it as only for you, you are literally putting a wall between us.
I feel like a lot of POC understood the being stopped by a cop line. I have had 3 interactions with law enforcement 2 were for accidents and 1 was while i was at a lake and i cried all 3 times because i didnt know if i was gonna get home to see my mom.

I could see you having a big video podcast. Have guests to talk to. Sort of like a Joe Rogan vibe. Just a couple of people shooting the shit and getting on different topics. You would be great at that. I think you really got something dude.
What's cool about this song, is that it gets people thinking. Cause they both say that they aren't racists, but they're saying some really hateful and racist shit. And they both make some good points too, but they attribute it to the wrong reason. There is a disconnect, a misunderstanding of each other's worlds. Neither of them truly are racist, they are there, willing to talk their shit out and try to understand one another. They're making an effort to sift through all the bullshit they've been fed. I love this song, and I wish more people would really listen to and learn from it.
i watched so many reactions to this song, and you was the only person i came across that talked about the N word in the context it was ment to be portrayed, and the tone of the RRRRR and not the A.Good Video man.
I like how he said that the white guy was racist because he generalized black people (witch i agree with) but then when the black guy generalizes white people he doesn't say anything about it. Your still the best knox hill 😉
Yea the entire point of the video is to show BOTH sides are wrong and BOTH sides are ignorant.. But Knox for whatever reason only sees it as ''white evil, black good''; which is.. bothersome.. it kinda makes the song loose it's purpose..
What I have come to love about this song, is that simultaneously the white guy is both racist and not racist. In that, I mean, he is pointing out a lot of stereotypes, a lot of real issues in the black community, there are members of the community that do run out on their kids, do get food stamps, and trade them for drugs and alcohol, refusing to take any blame and shifting it on others, how a lot of modern rap is very caustic and damaging to the community as a whole, reinforcing bad elements, glorifying things that are damaging the community, I have known these people, have had relatives that got into gangsta rap, and now are in jail, just because they tried to live the "thug" lifestyle and got caught up and got fucked over. What he is saying, is not inherently racist as these are real things that plague the black community, but what is racist about it, is the ignorance, the generalization, putting all the blame on this one black person, acting like he is part of the problem, the use of the hard R several times, and he is citing these things because they are very clear, problems of the black community brought up to disparage and even tell the black community "Well, maybe if you didn't act like X, you'd be treated better" as if it's all the fault of the black communities. He is not an actual racist, but what he is saying, as real as those issues may be, is real things that are also used by racists and ignorant people to attack blacks over, to point the blame on the black community alone. Then the black guy comes in, and doesn't even pretend to be respectful, and explains himself, gives context to things like not being able to get a job, not able to pay taxes either, how he has to sling drugs to just feed himself and his family, while being racist and full of hate himself, going all out also laying so much blame on this one man for the sins of all the white people. It's the perfect song, it starts hot, heats up to a boil, a full-on high point, then it hits the turning point when he says "There are two sides to every story, and I wish I could hear yours" shows, despite what the white man says, he really is not racist, because he wants to hear what the black man says. Then we ramp it up again, with the black man saying how he all due disrespect, he hates white people, starting high and angry, not as hot as the white man using the hard R, but it still is high. But slowly, it simmers down, slowly, more of his own personal struggles coming in. He is explaining himself and his experiences, that he has seen or had to do, admitting to fault, admitting he isn't perfect, it all coming down to pointing out, now, the white man knows a bit of his story, all the while, the white guy listening, considering, understanding, and it ends in acceptance and a hug, civil discourse. Also, a vast majority of Republicans aren't racist, more are non-racist than actually racist, and there are a lot of racist Democrats too, who want to effectively enslave blacks, as well as poorer communities so they can get richer. As far as the line about the Mexicans and the wall... a major factor why black people can't get jobs, is actually due to illegal immigrants taking jobs, often at a real pay cut, which means places like entry-level jobs will hire those people for cheap, exploit and threaten them, and it cuts out a lot of black teens and young adults from getting work. It's actually a major issue why, at least near the border, there is a LOT of hate and tension as well as gang violence going on between blacks and Latinos.
Love these reviews, I think a powerful part he missed was when he said "I know I'm not innocent, but I might be anyday now'. Meaning while he's done shit, he could be arrested and charged randomly for something he didn't do. Which is a fear I feel many black Americans live with.
I watched one of your videos bro. You are awesome, and now finally! When i explain something to a homie and they're like that doesn't make sense. You are always my go too! Love the breakdowns man. FIRE
I’m a black female and I don’t really get mad if a white person say the n word, it just depends on how they’re using it..like Idrc if they say it but I don’t like how some of them throw it around like it’s nothing..also I’ve never called a white person the c word and I never will cuz that’s disrespectful and racist and I’m not

I’m surprised you didn’t touch on the part where he says “...maybe the police would stop killing you...” and the implication that all the responsibility of ending police brutality is on black people changing their behaviors/dress/etc. Which is obviously wrong, and eliminates any examination of the police and the responsibility they and their institutions have. If you grew up in large black communities then you also know that stereotypes are created by numbers. And a high percentage of black households have one parent usually the mother is the one taking care of the kids because the father is gone. These are issues that need to stop being glossed over like it's something made up
People don't think it's "made up" more of the fact it doesn't matter sense the strong single mother trope has became so popular in the black communities actually in America in general.
The problem with that is people use that to justify police brutality and such things. When we are talking that police brutality should stop why is that the first thing that comes out of someone's mouth, you can bring that up but is that the time when we are trying to help people who lost their lives terribly and trying to prevent it from happening to anyone again
I've never heard someone say "the reason why police are shooting black people is because they have one parent at home". Some people just need to look in the mirror and take responsibility for certain perceptions and stop blaming it on others
DAMN. Where else can you watch a Hip Hop video and get a serious history lesson. Loved it. It wouldnt have been the same if coming from many other reactors. When you hear it from someone who has lived it grew up as a minority has alot more meaning. THANK YOU KNOXHILL

14:30 I knew some guy who would say racist or racially insensitive things, but if anyone called him out he would try to guilt trip you with "I fight against bigotry how dare you call me a racist! My friend is Mexican!" 1. we were talking about racism towards black people but OK. Deflecting is your specialty 2. No one called you a racist you were being called out for ignorant shit. His response? Gaslighting ("I never said you called me a racist!!!") 🥴. And that's not the worst part of that story.
I love you man, but I think you kinda missed the point of the video. You did catch the racism and stereotypes of the white guy, but you missed the subtleties of the black guy. 1. It starts when with his anger and him hitting the hat off the guy and knocking the table over, that being the stereotype that blacks are quicker to violence. His digs back at the white guy, while hitting with racist lines and stereotypes. Neither was better or worse in my opinion and if you find yourself agreeing with either more than the other, then you missed the point. This video showed the flaws and things both sides are usually guilty doing to defend their side or push their idea. The ending was great, but very unrealistic, but that is an end goal that we should strive to reach. But I'm glad Joyner started the conversation, but there always seems to be a little bias, and that's a bit sad to see. If anyone is trying to figure this out, or has read this far, I'm a 17-year old black guy from NC, and I'm wishing for a better future and I hope bbn I'm not bbn alone.

Anyone can label anyone, anyone can be racist. Condemning people of today for past mistakes is wrong, saying someone is racist because he has a different opinion is wrong, not actually listening to people and undertsand them is wrong ..Finding the problems and finding the best solutions to those problems is a way to progress..
I disagree with the whole "Not everyone that supports Trump is racist" comment. His ideology has played out to be unapologetically racist, so as far as I'm concerned, if you support him, you support a racist candidate. As such, you are racist. 🤷♂️
Tho I'm late, but seeing you really react to this song is just so powerful. We can literally see how you are affected by the song, like everyone of us, but unlike other reactors you don't choose side and clearly understand what Joyner ia trying to do here. Seeing how you draw short breaths, wandering eyes, throat caught and carefully choosing your words, this reaction is just gold👍👍
There is some imagery in the directing choice that shows clear division but also in the beginning of the video the two guys are separated by a table, normally something we sit at to talk to one another. then at the end the table is out the way and the conversation starts
Back in 2018, I saw Joyner Live on the I'm Kind of a Big Deal Tour. When this song was played the table, chairs, and the two same actors came out and did it just like the video. It was a beautiful moment to capture live!

Thanks for your perspective.
We can all see the pain and anguish this clip brought, not just to you but to all of us. And for that thank you! No one could have done a better reaction/breakdown Keeping it real #100

“Racism isn’t dead, but it’s on life support. Kept alive by politicians, race hustlers, and people who get a sense of superiority by denouncing people as racist”-Thomas Sowell
None of them have ever been racist toward my mixed family.
we are just Human race nonthing else.
@@azahias9 I took Spanish for 3 years in high school. Don’t remember a lot of it but I know there was no X in Latino. I’m guessing that’s a new progressive soy boy way of spelling it?
I agree.
@Chris Russell exactly, they call you racist for bringing up the statistics related to black deaths in America, they called STEM majors racist, they do all these narratives to shut down dialogue because they know they are wrong and intellectually bankrupt so they resort to 5 year old tactics of screaming lalalalala shut up or ill attack you
Joyner is a great storyteller and he knows how to put impact in what he shows and what he says, please check "Ross Capicchioni" one of my favorites from him.
Also you please do a breakdown of "Black Friday" by J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar
Ross cappichoni is the song that made me fall in love with joyner
I feel like we live in the same building but split into two floors - Hierarchy
I feel like we live in the same building but split into two sides - Being equal but separated
Not just seperated - segregated.
Thatd all fine and good, but perhaps we stop speaking a word, and a word loses power? This is coming from a native american/German human being who is blue collared and really is sick of pretending that talking amongst ourselves will do anything?
Perhaps I'm incorrect, but at what point do we like, simply say, knox hill, nope. And we tie our nuts together that there's not another awshwitz.
When i first heard the song i didn’t know Joyner, i tought the white guy was Joyner
I thought the black guy was Joyner lmao
I heard a lot of good about joyner but i never knew what he looked like so i Thought he was the Black actor

That means you made a masterpiece. 1000% agree

Dude this is one of the best reactions ever. And I've watched A LOT. You broke down this video PERFECTLY. Great job man. Keep up the great work.
The great thing about this song is that it brings up real issues and real ideas and doesn't try to choose a side. It allows the viewer to decide where they fall.
We need more! React to I'm sorry by Joyner Lucas
I love watching people react to this song cuz I just like to hear they’re opinion and what they think

Just want to say it's SO refreshing to see someone else actually nod the internal rhythm create between the track and the lyrics. Its like hearing 'the silent beats'.
Lol, people always ask why I nod to tracks like this, and I always say *"there's an implied intrinsic rhythm",* and people look at me like I'm crazy.
finally, man
been waiting for someone to REALLY break this down
grew up near chicago, suburb, mainly black, and i was the only white kid
This song is so powerful . I’m a republican and know we all Bleed the same we’re all Americans and we need to grow as individuals . We then can the similarities between all people. Great reaction man! Keep up the fantastic work, also keep up the fire music
Agreed brother. Im a conservative too and i know we're all equal. I base people off character. Not skin color.
So powerful and so true. We have to find out facts before taking action on anything in life. You are becoming my favorite reaction specialist.

What?
@SoulsMaster what u on about
You started Joyner? Lets all enjoy the ride, this is going to be fun
I love this song, and I wish more people would really listen to and learn from it.
the main point of this track is that if you choose a side you are part of the problem... exactly that is what rap is, sending a message

If you chose a side then you're part of the problem - from a guy in the original video and he's 100% right.
I respect knox for reacting to this song and disecting it knowing that he can get a lot of hate. Keep up the good work mate
I like how he said that the white guy was racist because he generalized black people (witch i agree with) but then when the black guy generalizes white people he doesn't say anything about it.
Your still the best knox hill 😉
I was looking for this comment. They're both out of line but don't just call out one. 🙄
Yea the entire point of the video is to show BOTH sides are wrong and BOTH sides are ignorant.. But Knox for whatever reason only sees it as ''white evil, black good''; which is.. bothersome.. it kinda makes the song loose it's purpose..
He did
My eyes always sting and well up at "there's two sides to every story and I wish that I knew yours." It's so powerful I can't hold it in.
This is such an incredible reaction
Thank you 🙏
What I have come to love about this song, is that simultaneously the white guy is both racist and not racist.
This comment needs a lot more likes 👍🏽 and comments 💬
Thank you so much @sevness
Love these reviews, I think a powerful part he missed was when he said "I know I'm not innocent, but I might be anyday now'. Meaning while he's done shit, he could be arrested and charged randomly for something he didn't do. Which is a fear I feel many black Americans live with.
I watched one of your videos bro. You are awesome, and now finally! When i explain something to a homie and they're like that doesn't make sense. You are always my go too! Love the breakdowns man. FIRE

7:40 - 9:55 the most powerful reaction I've ever heard on RUclips, Instagram, or any other social media platform in my life. You, Sir, are a Unicorn and a Powerful Light and Voice on this planet.
Great breakdown! I always tear up when they hug. We need more of that and less of all the rest of it. ♥️
Carrie Huffman that’s what Joyner is saying
Dark Ghoul Joyner implied it. I just figured he would have said something about it.
I think he didn't because he examines so much of the song regardless, so prob didn't think he needed to explain it, Idk.
That's the best reaction to this song I've ever seen.

“Not everyone who supports trump is racist, but everyone who supports trump has decided that racism is not a deal-breaker.”
If racism was a deal-bracker in American politics. Then I don’t think any of your politicians would get a vote. Depending on the definition of racism.

Truth I'm one of those mothers
DAMN. Where else can you watch a Hip Hop video and get a serious history lesson. Loved it. It wouldnt have been the same if coming from many other reactors. When you hear it from someone who has lived it grew up as a minority has alot more meaning. THANK YOU KNOXHILL
The whole "you arnt a slave so it shouldn't bother you" is the same as saying a jewish kid who's grandparents were in a concentration camp shouldn't care about the holocaust because they weren't there...
If anyone is trying to figure this out, or has read this far, I'm a 17-year old black guy from NC, and I'm wishing for a better future and I hope bbn I'm not bbn alone.
underrated comment. You put my exact thoughts into words when I saw his reaction... He got completely caught up in the mindset of ''white bad, black good'' ; which is counter to what the video is meant to show. Respect.

This song wasn’t used to show racists from both sides Joyner Lucas said it was to show how both sides feel in society he was to show he’s not bias
Dude absolutely love you for your views. Unite don’t divide! Amen
There is some imagery in the directing choice that shows clear division but also in the beginning of the video the two guys are separated by a table, normally something we sit at to talk to one another. then at the end the table is out the way and the conversation starts
perfect analysis great job knox keep the work up we love you
