Alright. So u say that. Then how about you listen to the song again and try and see it from a white guy's perspective: Just a normal college kid man. just scraped by to get into a community college. hes workin his ass off to study and try and get a job to provide for himself man. He just living his life. meanwhile all he sees from the black culture is all these young rappers talking about sellin drugs and killin dudes. How u think he feel about that. they makin millions off of that while hes working his ass off for months and barely scrapin enough money to eat and go to school. how u think he feels when he sees these black guys leaving their sons and wives or baby mommas. can u see the issue bruh? it aint 100% the system. let me show u.. a black guy and woman have a baby right. the black guy then leaves. first issue comes with money. That mother has to try and pay for that child to live. so what she has to do is either run 3 jobs or become a prostitute cuz the world we live in means that makes more money (which is fucked up major). so that child loks at all the guys going in and out of the house and he's thinking that that is OK. so he starts to wanna be like that. He listens to music about hoes and wants to be like that cuz its all he knows so he goes out and fucks 20 girls and gets one pregnant. he thinks "omg no i dont want that responsibility!" so he leaves the woman. (BAM REPEAT). 2nd issue. not having a father hurts. Im white alright, my father cheated and left my mom when i was 8. that shit hurts dude. u dont got the man of the house no more. u dont have someone to show u wat is right and wat is wrong. so he dont have that father hes mind gonna be the same as the man that got his mother pregnant. can u see wat im . saying bruh? the whole problem isnt just with they "system". while it does exist i agree and its fucked up. It is not impossible to get out of there. Nothing. Nothing can't stop hard work.
And also u guys say u arent racist and u agree with this song but u disagree with everything the white guy is saying... U MISSED THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SONG! he is trying to bring us together. U wanna know how we do that. by sitting down at that table and talking about it. Listen to the song again bruh.

In my opinion it's because the big companies that put huge sums of money into politicians want us to be divided and hateful towards each other, it makes us easier to control so they don't like it when people can see past race, gender, sexual orientation etc.
They just want us all to be full of hate when the real thing is that we all just need to learn how to loe and respect one another.

It still hasn't been 100 years where black people got their full rights. Some people even forget not all white people were bad and racist and many actually were big pieces in starting the movement to earn their rights. It's about for now hearing each other which lawtwins did, the fixing doesn't have to happen right away because that could possibly just ruin it with stressful tensions. It’s also healthier for the whole country.
Right now USA is divided, everything relies on individual opinions, even things that shouldn’t. It’s a problem.
USA should reconnect its people, you should respect each others and be less judgmentals (it goes both for left and right).
This song is a pure gem. The only issue I have with it is the whole Obama thing. If Obama was re-elected 3 times, it’s because the majority voted for him.
And if Trump has been elected, it’s because the majority has voted for him.
It has nothing to do with individuals and people shouldn’t get impacted by these votes (both left and right).
It’s also important to add that a government governs. The social issues are handled by the people. And it’s time for USA to acknowledge it instead of blaming everyone for these issues.

I guess as an asian that this white v black thing is easier to see both sides of, but Asians gotta address this more underlying racism within the us that seems to just be glossed over and accepted by everyone.

People mostly seem to react to a white man saying specific words instead of the message. If the first half would have been by a black man it would have been seen as reaching out to the community, now the majority of blacks are just offended without realizing that all of it is by black man and has a powerful message.

Kinetic Fridge exactly! This song is 1000% on point, & the only ppl who disagree with it are racists, & that is 100% fact!
People in this country who pretend the injustice minorities face are make believe, are willfully ignorant, they are the ones living in make believe. There is systemic racism in America & until we fix the problem at it's core, ( Washington, police training, & education.) It will not stop, & I honestly believe they ( D.C.) do it on purpose just so we bicker with each other, instead of focusing on the real problem which is Washington & the digusting policy that comes outta there.

Due to recent events here in the US, I figured I would give this song a listen again. And I’ve gotta say thank you for not getting too caught up in one side and letting your emotions beat you. I just wish people could come together as... people, and not let race divide us. At this point, I feel like we do need to sit down at a table and vent our frustrations to each other so we can help each other. I understand each side has a point of view and I just wish I understood the other. There are too many people who jump to conclusions and then take those conclusions and put it with a certain group of people, rather than looking at the individual. That’s how stereotypes start. People tend to focus on the negatives and overlook the positives. It only takes one bad seed to ruin it for the rest. I’m not racist, and MOST people are not racist. But there are some. And I know it goes both ways. God bless everyone who reads this. 💯

They didnt have guns but a neighbor of the customer thought “they had rifles and were going to shoot up the neighborhood.” The “rifles” were their shovels they were using to dig with. If you think thats an understandable confusion just imagine if you got the cops called on you at your desk job cuz someone thought your phone was a pistol and the cops were ready to shoot you and take your life because of that... because you were just minding your own business.

I think the point was also that there is a dichotomy between saying - rightly so - that black people are not inherently criminals, and on the other side having black culture appropriating and celebrating elements - like some types of clothing - which are taken from prison and gang culture: an example is the extremely low pants, which as much as I know is linked to the fact that in prison you can’t use belts. Obviously this is an extremely semplified statement, there’s to say that the extreme difference in terms of incarceration between blacks and whites forced prison “culture” on the black community.

It is how our brains work. It's a sense of judgement. We judge every situation the moment we enter it in a quick moment. Since our brains aren't aware of all the details to the specific situation they fill in the blanks with what it already knows from elsewhere. Then if we stay in the situation the unknown get filtered out and replaced by facts. This is a defense mechanism so we can react instantly to danger. Since it is a defense against danger those unknowns are treated as dangerous so our brains flood with adrenaline and other chemicals to put us in a position where we can better defend ourselves the moment danger first shows itself. You can place the hood style looking like criminals as the same as middle easterners dressing the same as terrorists. The dress the same because they come from the same culture which scares people who don't know yet if they are a terrorist or just a normal person from the middle east. We can't fix that our brains work this way but what we can do is remove the general thoughts on these cultures. If we learn how it really is and ignore that there are some bad people doing the same things as them then our brains won't put us on the defensive. Sorry this was so long, I didn't know how to describe it in a shorter way.

    • @mikepiazza2000

I think the point is to demonstrate that both are wrong because both are racist. The common ground between both mens arguments is that both are being racist to the other, even if unknowingly, but the beauty of it to me is that Joyner finds a way to humanize both of them. The hug at the end represents a willingness to understand the others argument and in a way to accept that they themselves have misjudges the other. In other words both men are intelligent enough to recognize that their arguments were hyperbolic. Every line in the song has a grain of truth but none of it is actually true because the truth is between them and the only way to get there is to sit down and listen to eachother. This shit is beautiful and it absolutely disgusts me that Joyner didnt get a Grammy for this. This is some of the most impressive pieces of writing Ive ever seen and Im not limiting that to hiphop or even to music in general

Jackie your right and imma tell you sum, I watched this video forever ago and it still gets to me, I’m 15 Yr old white male, my fathers a cop, see now a decent amount of people in any race believe I’m a racist, or my father is a bad man, but you haven’t seen my side have you?? No you don’t know what’s it’s like to be a white working man who sees a decent amount of his hard earned money taken away to be given to people who do not work, as well as I have no idea what’s it’s like to be someone who can’t get a job because of the way they look, I would like to spend a day in “a” person of the black colors shoes, as well as I think it would be eye opening for “a” black person to spend a day in my fathers shoes, it’s never gonna end if “we” can’t except, respect and learn and listen from each other , “we” all wanna get very mad and angry and talk about what “we” have to say and not listen to what “they” have to say, and “everyone” is different, there are racist people and there are not, I know sadly many racist white people, and many racist black people and that’s just the truth even though must of “us” don’t wanna hear that, but your right it is not “y’all” it’s more of an “us” thing at this point

Isnt it clear that the black guy and the white guy were both extremely racist? Thats the point. I think this video is trying to say that Black culture and White culture shouldnt be exclusive to race. That skin color should be an attribute like hair color or eye color. This video isn't tearing apart the white guys arguments or the black guys arguments. Its taking both and saying that yall are both racist and until you see that you cant possibly be equal because then he will always be able to say a word you cant and he will always struggle more than you and he will always be more privileged and he will always be DIFFERENT. Thats the problem. Im all for equal rights for all races, but that doesn't mean races should be separate. People need to stop advocating for separate but equal and start advocating for equal. Thats my two cents

Ben Cornell Although the phrase separate but equal has died a long time ago, I agree that races are somewhat seperated naturally through socio-cultural influences. I also agree that both blacks and whites need to try and communicate and integrate more with the other race in order for each side to truly understand each other before making sterotypical judgements.
