For the brz counterpart, you also have to remove the front hubs to get the clearance to install the 3” studs. I suppose the aluminum knuckle is bulkier.
hi i finally got my gr86 order, i can't wait to have it. Here in Spain it has gone on sale this month. your videos are great. Thank you very much for the content. Cheers
When I did the extended ARP studs on my 2017 BRZ I ended up taking the rear emergency brake shoes apart and it was a big pain. Cool that you can do it by pulling the hub out a little bit without disassembling the ebrake
@@KevinVoalso kev if you have time to reply to me i have a question. I just bought avid1 av6 18x9.5+38 with 255/35/18 wheels. With bc coilovers. Im not too sure if itll rub. If ever the tires will do you have any recommendations on what a good tire number will be?
The downside with wheel spacers is that (at least in my area) most shops won't reinstall a wheel with a spacer. Makes it difficult for those who don't do their own work.
Hey Kevin, great detailed and in depth video. quick question for you. Do you know what would be the torque spec for the caliper bolts it has Brembo calipers? Thanks
I'd still need to run extended studs. I wouldn't be comfortable running any more than a 3mm spacer on the OEM studs. As for a +40, that would cause more issues with the rear fitment, which is more of a headache to deal with than the front.
Always a pleasure watching your clean work and explanations! Kevin, in your opinion, wich is the minimum safe thread engagement, in terms of mm or turns? Thanks in advance from Spain!
Hi Kevin, I'm looking for glow blue rims for my gr86 but nowhere have them. Could you suggest my some brand or places to get them? Thank you in advance.
Another excellent tutorial Kevin! This car is coming along so nicely. Also, why do the new stud threads change color after install? Is that deposits from the lug nut threads on the new studs?
Just to confirm, you can do the 3" studs on the rear with this technique? Some other video is claiming you can only do 2.5" studs in the rear with this technique, but he didn't completely remove the 4 bolts for the rear hub and also not the ABS sensor.
Hey Kevin! Quick question, I was thinking of running a 17x9 setup. Do you think I’d still have those clearance issues in the front and rear like you did or you think I’d be good? Ideally I was gonna run 18x9.5 cause I want a similar aggressive meaty setup but after seeing the issues you had im second guessing it lol
What’s the “one more trick” you were referring to at the end to alleviate the rubbing left on the top inner fender liner on the driver side? Can’t seem to find it in your later videos.
Three things Kevin. Where did you get your torque specs from? The FSM shows different then what you say in the video. I was able to install the 2.5" studs without fully removing the hub bolts on all 4 corners of my BRZ. The overlay that you have for the reverse light bar. Does it fully cover the lens or is it cut to match the opening? It's only 3 body clips to remove the cover and I would prefer the whole lens to be covered.
I may have been referencing the FSM for the previous gen. I'm surprised they've changed that much with the parts being almost identical. As for the studs, I was installing the 3" studs so those didn't have enough clearance. The overlay for the reverse light bar is larger than the opening. It covers 95% of the lens apart from the "ridged" outline of the lens.
Kevin, I did the arp extended wheel stud install on my 2022 BRZ I did however every steps, after I bring everything back. When I run the car, I'm hearing a grinding & clicking noise coming from the part where I worked on. Tried to diagnose what could cause the noise but do you think that pulling the hub on the rear will damage the CV joint enough to get replaced?
It shouldn't cause any damage at all. I would run through everything again and double check things. Get the car up in the air and spin the wheel to see if you can locate the noise.
@@KevinVo bro, the issue was, my brother loosen the other wheel lugs without me knowing and only worked on the one wheel. I put everything back and never informed about the loose left wheel and it was the issue, loose wheel lugs 😬
I was looking at the ST XA coilovers and they dont have camber plates. Are they necessary if I plan to lower and add wheels? Or will I be able to have a good stance without that. They're only 1300 compared to the racecomp super steet 1 for 1900
Awesome. Thank you for the quick reply. Super helpful. For the studs you linked we should get four of those to do front and rear right? It looks like the one you linked are 3.5”?
If we take some rough estimates, the stud length with the wheel off is ~25mm. The wheel is going to take off another ~8mm so that leaves us with ~17mm of stud length. If you add in 7mm spacer that's ~10mm we're left with. For thread engagement, we want about 1-1.5 times the diameter of the stud which is ~11.8mm. I like to err on the side of caution so I'd like at least 1.5 times that which with a 7mm spacer that would not give us. With a 3mm spacer, we're left with ~14mm which still isn't the 1.5 I shoot for, but at least it's more than 1x the diameter of the stud.
That is a crazy amount of work just to fit those massive wheels. 😃Do you need them for something specific or is it just the looks? However, impressive skills and knowledge at making your car exactly how you want it. Thumbs up for the bloopers. 😁

Another excellent tutorial Kevin! This car is coming along so nicely. Also, why do the new stud threads change color after install? Is that deposits from the lug nut threads on the new studs?
It's the coating on the studs coming off due to the friction when threading the lug nuts on and off.

I was thinking about getting tein flex z coilovers and run a 18x8.5 +35 with 255/40 for my gr86. Do you think it'll rub?
You should mention that the hub assembly n suspension on the brz especially in the rear is completely different
You may be mixing that up with the front. The brz has an aluminum hub. The rear is identical besides the sway bar.
Hi what size of tyre runs with 18x9J? Running on stock suspension setup. Dont want to cut the fenders or modify lower arms, will 18x9j rub the fenders

Will adding the spacer cause vibration problem if the wheels are not centred anymore ?
Great question! If you use hubcentric spacers, you won't run into vibration issues as that'll insure everything is lined up correctly.
