The Knödel you had, was a potato dumpling, basically ... and yes, you had the right idea, it's purpose is to be eaten with lots of the gravy :) The Schweinshaxe is usually eaten with fork and knife lol... but there’s nothing wrong to just DIG IN! I love it! Next time you have a chance, definitely give Semmelknödel a try... it's a bread dumpling and is also eaten with either a Schweinebraten or with a Schwammerlsoße (mushroom cream sauce). Munich is so big... there are so many things to see! Did you happen to go inside the Frauenkirche that was around the corner from Marienplatz? Next time, definitely check out Schloss Nymphenburg and its beautiful park. Then there is the Münchner Residenz. So many museums and galleries... the Alte/Neue/Moderne Pinakothek are a must see, if you're into history/art. München also has the largest Technik Museum of the world. So so so many things there... The Tierpark Hellabrunn is a very popular zoo in München. www.muenchen.de Gosh... watching you guys explore, makes me miss home SOOOOOO much! I used to work in München.

I wonder they haven't been to the Hofbräuhaus. And what about the BMW Forum right next to Olympic Stadium. Or Bavaria Film Studios in the south of munich.

Go to Munich in december when christmas markets are open, Tollwood festival (alternative christmas market with food from all over the world, nice to see by night with all the lights) takes place and then go eat in the cellar of one of the many breweries. Always love that.
Märchenbazar is a nice Christmas market, more alternative than Tollwood which became more and more commercial over the years, and I would also recommend Wannda Circus in summer.
I have...well, somewhat. Because for one, it wasn't a proper Schweinshaxe but some honey coated thing which is actually sold at Disney World, and two, the women eating it was an American, who apparently bought it as some sort of snack to eat it in line. One of the strangest thing I have seen my whole live.

Great to see you having such a good time in my home town Munich. Looking forward to see part two. It would probably be a good idea to have a few more days to explore Munich because there is so much to do and to see. Next time you're in Munich and it is so hot, take the U-Bahn to station Thalkirchen Tierpark (line 3) and walk over to the Flaucher which is a great place or area with beautiful gravel banks in the river Isar where you can go swimming, relaxing and cool off in the cold, refreshing Isar water, even with Milla, because there are so many little pools and puddles. But a warning: some people may go into the water there buck naked, which is pretty common in Germany at some places, so don't be surprised :-).
You already got the right infos from Susanne, so i am happy that you like it. And only one thing, you passing by at Augustiner Bräu… you need to try this Beer! Love that you have so much fun and get a good glimpse of the friendliest Bavarian people, in a Biergarten, where all feel the good vibes..
I love your videos because they have such a positive vibe. And you have real talent to make videos, the editing is good and it's never boring. The kid is really cute and always smiling. Bavaria is like its own little perfect country, only the traditional dishes are a bit too meat-heavy for me
I lived in the US for quite a few years and I made the mistake of assuming that soft pretzels would taste at least similar to the Brezn. I was very much mistaken and needless to say I never had another soft pretzel in the US ever again 🙈😅 Glad you're enjoying yourselves! The "Deutsches Museum" is always worth a trip as well and they actually have a section in there where kids can explore and play.

You have never seen german dumplings? They are called Knödel and are made from potatos (yours/Kartoffelknödel) our alternatively from bread (Semmelknödel). They go with almost everything (roasts, grilled chicken, gulasch or mushrooms).
And then there are also sweet alternatives like "Marillenknödel" thst are filled with fruit and there are are also "Böhmische Knödel" in Tchechia which are made out of Dough and aren't round but are cut from a long log.... and the list goes on. Knödel for life😂😂😂
@@OurStorytoTell The dumplings you had were made from potato starch. You can also get them made from bread crumbs, or half-potato/half-bread. Check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kn%C3%B6del for more.
"By the way if it’s a beer garden you are allowed to bring your own food." Bavarian Beer Garden Law. Does however not apply for beer gardens outside of Bavaria.
Happy to see this. I work in an office near Viktualienmarkt and spent many lunch breaks there before I had to switch to home office. Happy to go back to the office soon. That sausage stall you went to is quite famous. But that is the case for most food stalls there. Actually, I have the same question as you have about Schweinshaxe. I know it is meant to be eaten with cutlery but the knives you get are in no way able to cut through the crust. Just taking a bite out of it looks like the way better option.
hi both of you. Your Munich video is fantastic. I'm from Munich and there's so much more to see in Munich. By the way, it is common in the Munich beer gardens that you can bring yourself something to eat. Only the drinks you have to buy directly. I've seen so many videos of you, you guys are great. Welcome to Germany
I went to Munich June 2016 and stayed 5 or 6 days I cant remember. I walked so much lol and saw a couple of these places. At the time I didnt realize the english garden was where the river surfing was but I sat there and ate at the beer garden but the next day I was extremely sick either food poison or the heat and beer but yeah I was stuck in my hotel next day. I went to the radio tower in the olympic park at the top they had the rock n roll hall of fame and you could see the entire city and mountains around munich. I also went to the bmw museum next door and saw all the cars. Also went to the Nymphenburg Palace but didn't get to see inside so hopefully next time and to see the Munich Residenz. There is just so much to see and do it takes days or weeks. Munich was one of my favorite places in Germany so far. Hope to go again
Hi you both, in Germany you have to use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit when speaking of temperatures :-)). Fahrenheit says nothing to Eurpeans :-)). But I thing it was over 30 Grad Celsius! Knödel=dumpling :-)
Munich is a great city to visit. I'm surprised, when walking through the English Gardens, that you didn't stumble upon the nudist sunbathing areas, accidental or otherwise.
Thank you so much for this lovely and exciting video about Munich. I was born there, and haven’t been there some years, too long… Now I live in Bamberg, where you also already have been. I really love to see you exploring my home Bavaria and getting to love it. Welcome here so much!!! I’d love to tell you more about Bamberg and the lovely countryside of Frankische Schweiz. Go there, explore little mountains, caves and beautiful little villages, you’ll love it! Best regards, Mathias 🥰
Hey Mathias! Great to hear you enjoyed the videos :). We loved visiting Bamberg and Munich, and are excited about explore the Fränkische Schweiz area! If you want to send us an email with any tips of places to go, that would be awesome! We want to go sometime in 2022, so any suggestions would help us find some places to visit. :) Thanks again for the nice comment and Guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!
@@OurStorytoTell Thanks for your good wishes, also a happy new year to you all! If you plan to come to the Bamberg area again within the next months, make sure you don’t miss ‚Karpfen gebacken‘ in one of the small villages in this area. It is fried carp fish, comes with potato salad, and is one of the regional and seasonal specialties here, only to get from September to April. It’s really delicious with edible crusty fins… also comes sometimes as ‚Karpfen blau‘, cooked in some slightly sour wine/vinegar broth with vegetables, butter and cooked potatoes. For example in Rothensand, or Schönbrunn, or you ask people at some gas station in the region where to get some good Karpfen… I‘ll also think about some nice places in the Fränkische Schweiz, Wiesent Tal between Hollfeld and Bamberg is really lovely and beautiful for example.
@@SuperMegaImbaLord I know some people, who suck the sausage out of the skin, other people say, if that‘s possible, it‘s not a good sausage. I guess there are many opinions on how to eat it the right way, but I couldn’t eat it with the skin on 😅😂
I always have potato dumplings and red cabbage with Rinderbraten (roast beef). That's how I like it best. With a proper, dark gravy to go with it. Hmmm... delicious! And only homemade! ;-)
You guys really became a staple of the Expat in Germany channels in no time.... In with Willa wearing the German hat... let that make the round and you will get a ton of followers ;)
Those potato dumplings, we called them Kartoffelklöße in Cologne. It may be a bit difficult to pronounce to begin with, so ask a German friend to say it a few times. Or look on RUclips for recipes. Search for "Omas Kartoffelklöße selber machen" by Calle kocht.
Great job folks and great memories for you in the future. IAhhh, the schweinhaxe is yummy for sure. I have had three since I had arrived to Germany last Saturday lol. love the city of Munch, in fact, I will be there tomorrow coming from Garmisch :).
Knödel oder Kloß depending in the area. West_______East And its a potato dumpling they come in two variants half and half or in silk When you ho großery shopping you can find them in the cooling or the frozen section. The frozen ones are comomeatly pre made you only hsve to boild them and the colled ones its just the dough ylu have to form them zo falls and then boild them in salt water till they swimm up to the top
And i lobe them they soak uo gravy and sauce better then potatoes do while habing the same mild taste. But actually shou should regio ice the potato taste if not could be that the location where you bought the food used frozen dumplings they loose some flavour vompared to dough or fresh made ones
I heard you mention Handy-mobile phone and football-soccer (though american football is played 90% with ✋🏼 ✋🏼) and Knödel-dumpling!!! Welcome to Bavaria …but hey, the Weißwurst is consumed without skin and not behind 🕛 noon
2:30 Fun fact: This is actually the "New Rathaus (City Hall)", built in the 19th century in the Neo-Gothic Style, whereas at 4:27 you see the "Old Rathaus" which is in the original Gothic Style, from the 1470ies, built by the same architect as the "Liebfrauenkirche" ("Cathedral of Our Dear Lady") at 2:00 You should eat Weißwurst always without the skin. There are several methods to get rid of the skin, including sucking the meat out of it, hehe. The thing next to the Schweinshaxe is a potato dumpling. I personally hate them, although I'm a Bavarian.
I guess you didn’t visit the BMW World and museum next to the Olympia Park. The Bavaria statue at the Theresienwiese is also nice. You can visit some of the palaces (Residenz, Nymphenburg or slightly outside of Munich Schleißheim). There are also nice museums like just for example the Deutsches Museum.

That crunch of the Schweinshaxe sent a shiver down my spine and made my mouth water...those things are out of this world. Personally i'm not a huge fan of those Knödel/Dumplings because of their rather bland taste and chewy texture, they're basically just for gravy transport. There's another kind i absolutely love which is Semmelknödel. These are a bit more savory and flavourful. Highly recommend to give those a try if you get the chance.
if you like Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) I'm sure you will love Schäufele (pork shoulder) as well, which has a nice crust like that too :) In Nuremberg you can see a similar live animation at the Frauenkirche, which happens every day at noon :)

Das denk ich mir auch jedes Mal😊
You have never seen german dumplings? They are called Knödel and are made from potatos (yours/Kartoffelknödel) our alternatively from bread (Semmelknödel). They go
with almost everything (roasts, grilled chicken, gulasch or mushrooms).
And then there are also sweet alternatives like "Marillenknödel" thst are filled with fruit and there are are also "Böhmische Knödel" in Tchechia which are made out of Dough and aren't round but are cut from a long log.... and the list goes on. Knödel for life😂😂😂
The English translation of Knödel is dumpling.
By the way if it’s a beer garden you are allowed to bring your own food.
Great to know! Thanks!
@@OurStorytoTell The dumplings you had were made from potato starch. You can also get them made from bread crumbs, or half-potato/half-bread. Check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kn%C3%B6del for more.

Not to mention Leberknödel…
"By the way if it’s a beer garden you are allowed to bring your own food."
Bavarian Beer Garden Law.
Thank you! 💛
Very Cool Video about Munich! Love it! But you have to learn, eating a Weißwurscht!
Greets from Amberg
So fun you had that experience… well not the food poisoning! Munich is an incredible city 😊
Hi you both, in Germany you have to use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit when speaking of temperatures :-)). Fahrenheit says nothing to Eurpeans :-)). But I thing it was over 30 Grad Celsius! Knödel=dumpling :-)
In Britain we tend to switch between them, especially when it gets really hot, ie. into the 90s.
11:18 Willa want's to have the haxn 🤣🤣
Yes she does haha!
Munich is a great city to visit. I'm surprised, when walking through the English Gardens, that you didn't stumble upon the nudist sunbathing areas, accidental or otherwise.
Somehow we didn’t!
Thank you so much for this lovely and exciting video about Munich. I was born there, and haven’t been there some years, too long…
Now I live in Bamberg, where you also already have been.
Thanks again for the nice comment and Guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!
For example in Rothensand, or Schönbrunn, or you ask people at some gas station in the region where to get some good Karpfen…
I‘ll also think about some nice places in the Fränkische Schweiz, Wiesent Tal between Hollfeld and Bamberg is really lovely and beautiful for example.
Busy? Ah that's like a walk in the park. You got it, the crackling on the schweinhaxe is the best. Glad you enjoyed Munich.
Just out of curiosity, did you eat the Weißwurst with the skin on?😅
I‘m not sure if I want to know the answer to this question 😂
My whole family eats it with the skin but i have to cut it off everytime. 😅
@@SuperMegaImbaLord I know some people, who suck the sausage out of the skin, other people say, if that‘s possible, it‘s not a good sausage. I guess there are many opinions on how to eat it the right way, but I couldn’t eat it with the skin on 😅😂
@Chris Bighill that’s why I‘ve asked 😄 I’m from Bavaria and most people I know won‘t eat the skin, but I know some older men who just don‘t care🤷♀️😂

Hi guys!
I just found your RUclips channel and I have to say I liked and enjoyed so much watching this video. I will definitely see more!!

Great Video! The Schweinshaxe 🤣
Jack's Toy Is a BMW Isetta ruclips.net/video/70ufaopHIVI/видео.html
There is a unique way to eat a Weißwurst. It is called 'Zuzeln'. Maybe try that next time? Lovely Video!
I always have potato dumplings and red cabbage with Rinderbraten (roast beef). That's how I like it best. With a proper, dark gravy to go with it. Hmmm... delicious!
And only homemade! ;-)
Awwww, Schweinshaxe! I should try eating it the burger way next time I have one. That looked so primal! 😊
Great, I live in Munich 😀would have loved to meet you and show you around 😀😊glad you liked it
Knödel oder Kloß depending in the area.
West_______East
And its a potato dumpling they come in two variants half and half or in silk
When you ho großery shopping you can find them in the cooling or the frozen section.
Kids usually only need Knödel and gravy... honestly, i would still be totally fine with it today :-D
Me too 😁
I went to Munich last week. It was as great as your video. 😄
When you drive again to munich, visit the german museum. Very very interesting.
Thanks for the suggestion! We will look into it! :)
I watched all of your videos and I feel that you love Germany more and more.
It’s true! We are! 💛
Next up Salzburg Zoo…something for your daughter!:)
thank you so much for sharing your journey-I look forward to it-
I heard you mention Handy-mobile phone and football-soccer (though american football is played 90% with ✋🏼 ✋🏼) and Knödel-dumpling!!! Welcome to Bavaria
…but hey, the Weißwurst is consumed without skin and not behind 🕛 noon
Its so awesome to see how you enjoy those trips
Ate Knödel for many times within my year in München, still can't make myself fall in love with it😅
great guys i love München.
Munich looks amazing
Great video beautiful views. Wow that was a huge piece of pork. Looked indeed very tasty 😋
😋 it really was! Thanks for the kind comment!
München, meine Heimat 💓
A lovely video guys - well done
Thanks so much! 😊
you're welcome - keep up the nice content. @@OurStorytoTell
What should we see next time we go to Munich?? 😊
2:30 Fun fact: This is actually the "New Rathaus (City Hall)", built in the 19th century in the Neo-Gothic Style, whereas at 4:27 you see the "Old Rathaus" which is in the original Gothic Style, from the 1470ies, built by the same architect as the "Liebfrauenkirche" ("Cathedral of Our Dear Lady") at 2:00
You should eat Weißwurst always without the skin. There are several methods to get rid of the skin, including sucking the meat out of it, hehe.
The thing next to the Schweinshaxe is a potato dumpling. I personally hate them, although I'm a Bavarian.
For sure the BMW Museum. It was next to the Olympia Stadium :) www.bmw-welt.com/de/locations/museum.html
Beerencafe in Lochhausen, Nymphenburg, Flaucher, Tierpark, Gasteig, Deutsches Museum+ Praterinsel, Residenz, Verrückter Eismacher,
Go watch a Bayern Munich game :D
Hi Risa, it's really sad that you lost your us citizenship and became an instant german at 3 minutes and 25 seconds into the video..."pick up your phone or HANDY"!!! I almost choked on my Brötchen mit Käse und Salami 🤣🤣🤣
Haha 😂 glad you survived your meal!
A food show with ravel or a travel show with food?
😄😄😄
🥨🍗Knödel mit Haxe. I am hungry now 🤣🙋♂️
Nice vlog guys. May I ask what camera and lens you are using?
I visited the city on the same day from Hannover, shame I missed you! :p
Great times ☺️
Fun fact: my favorite singer, Freddie Mercury, lived in Munich I think from 1979 - 1986 👍❤️
The music video to „living on my own“ was shot in Munich after his birthday party 🥳.
Enjoy your exciting times!
!
Oh my gosh how cool!!
Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder also lived in Munich in the 60s and 70s, and recorded „I Feel Love“ and „Love to Love You Baby“ there.
@@OurStorytoTell That's why you'll find the "Freddie-Mercury-Straße" in Munich! That's where he used to live! :-)

no chance to accidentially bump into you if you post those videos that much late. But it seems yoou had a good time. I expect you to have a lot of German viewers as well so you should talk about Celsius, too ;-)
We had a great time :) This video was taken this past weekend which is a super fast turn around time for use. Typically videos taken a couple weeks to edit and post.
Waiting for more travel video love from india 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

That crunch of the Schweinshaxe sent a shiver down my spine and made my mouth water...those things are out of this world. Personally i'm not a huge fan of those Knödel/Dumplings because of their rather bland taste and chewy texture, they're basically just for gravy transport. There's another kind i absolutely love which is Semmelknödel. These are a bit more savory and flavourful. Highly recommend to give those a try if you get the chance.
Hehe, same here, Semmelknödel are far superior!
@@hape3862 Yes i agree! As Serviettenknödel ***
mix in a laugenbrezel or 2. makes them even better!
