Chest Heart Rate Sucks, Use This Instead

  • I Hate chest based heart rate monitors. They're annoying to use, restrictive on your breathing and I think there are better ways to get accurate chart rate data. In this video I review the Coros arm based chart rate monitor and test it on the bike and running against the chest based heart rate monitor from Garmin to see whether heart rate from your arm is accurate, or not.

I have the Polar H10 and I love it.
If anything, I can focus better on deep breathing when I use it, as it’s strapped on my chest. The strap comes off and washes separately and I use it with medical conductive gel instead of water - yes, it’s cold when you put it on, but I don’t think anyone picked up running for the comfort it provides 100% of the time.
The only downside for me is that the replacement straps are fairly expensive, as I do spoil myself to having one that is ready to go while the other one is in the wash.
I imagine the Coros band is finicky with long sleeves, no?
Either way, will pick one of these up, or the Verity Sense for my lady and hopefully report back. Cheers!
P.S. I’m done saying “strap” now.

That sounds like a good product! I’ll have a look at it
I have not tried with long sleeve - in fact I don’t think I even own a long sleeve running top 😂 dosent get cold enough in Australia

Currently trying to find a good setup to track my heart rate as a beginner runner. What cheap watches does this connect to?

    • @PeakStride
      @PeakStride  4 месяца назад +1

It works over bluetooth so it should connect to nay watch with bluetooth

Agree 100% also the chest strap gave me a rash on long runs esp if using an ultra vest

Wow I can only imagine how it would be when using a vest

Good question - I haven’t properly tested it watch to watch - I’ll test it out this week

I am a rock climber and always wear coros pace 2 watch. I have been curious about what my real HR looks like on a big day out(ie 1-2 hour approach and 6+ pitches of climbing) but I can't bring myself to wear a HR strap for 8 hours. I will have to look into this armband :)

Rock climber friend! Yeah I couldn’t wear a strap for that long, arm band is the way to go. Sadly we don’t have any pitch where I live, mostly overhanging less routes

Yes I emailed them suggesting that they make a charging cable with both types of chargers for the watch and band on it - hopefully they can make one

Sorry, but this title is just misleading. Chest-based HR monitors are used by many professionals runners, and do provide much better accuracy than wrist-HR. However, I have not used a Coros arm-based monitor, so I will not say who´s better. In conclusion, both provide much better accuracy than wrist-based HR and there should not be much of a difference between the two, provided that you are using them properly.

I never said it wasn’t accurate? It is my opinion that chest HR sucks because it’s uncomfortable to wear - and if arm based is just as accurate (I test it in the video) then I recommend the arm.

I have a video that starts by talking about how the Garmin HRM is a terrible piece of gear, but mostly just annoying to wear. It goes bad after a while, it constantly falls down your torso, and you have to rub water all over your chest before you use it.

Chest HR monitors are annoying. The Garmin HRM is $120 and stops working after a few months. Even if you try to replace the battery, you have to be extremely careful you don't damage the red rubber gasket, otherwise you can kiss that unit goodbye - I've been through 3 units in 4 years. I'm switching to Coros when I upgrade watches and definitely getting the arm band monitor if I want to train by HR.
