      @@regulate.artificer_g23.mdctlsk It'd require a pretty long explanation in itself, but basically, you know when the characters will like wear clothes on skins (think of the clip where SpongeBob rips off his own skin to reveal that he looks exactly the same as a spoof on superheroes)?
      The theory takes clips like that and uses them to compose a theory that the characters are fully aware of the skins and even accept it and incorporate into their everyday life.

    One specific change I like going into the final show was Larry the lobster. In any other cartoon he would be a generic muscular bully character but instead he’s a nice and supportive friend of spongebob who takes his lifeguard job very seriously.

    • @Champiness
      @Champiness 2 года назад +5

      Like Sandy he’s a Type-A, outgoing figure whose physical and social successes Spongebob - always looking for the “normal” way to find acceptance - aspires to match, but unlike Sandy he’s largely oblivious to the fact that this is something which tends to go on in the little yellow guy’s head. I think that handily explains why there are three separate classic episodes whose premises can be summarized as “Larry’s presence at the beach causes Spongebob to psychically bully himself into going way past his comfort zone and causing havoc”.

      A bible in this sense is just a book of settings, traits, and other details pertaining to a media franchise! It’s what’s given out to writers, game devs, etc so they know the ‘rules’ of the show/game/whatever they are making and what they are allowed and not allowed to do. For example, the bible for the Sonic franchise that Sega hands out to the studios who develop Sonic games contains stuff like ‘only Tails and Eggman are allowed to create technology’.

    Fun Fact: Squeaky Boots, which is seen in the pitch, was one of the first few episodes to be made (the 3rd to be exact), although Nickelodeon aired it much later for some reason. Contrarily, Reef Blower was produced more than halfway through Season 1 despite airing alongside the first episode, Help Wanted. Still, it's interesting how Reef Blower was an idea in the pitch bible even though the crew didn't get to the idea until much later. It's also interesting how Patrick was originally meant to be in that episode, let alone how many episodes we know today were originally gonna be super different. It's kinda fun to imagine every bit of the show turning out exactly as planned.

  • @EthanWasHere
    @EthanWasHere 3 года назад +130

    Wow! This is very interesting! It's neat to hear about the little details that were ultimately lost later in development. Like Spongebob and Sandy dating, Patrick apparently renting his rock, and Spongebob not ever making employee of the month, despite being the best employee. That stuff would have kind of grounded the show a bit more, made the characters and world just a little bit more relatable to the real world. (Seriously, can you imagine Patrick needing to pay rent or having to negotiate with his landlord?)
    To me, Spongebob is a show partially about what a kid wants adulthood to be like. Spongebob lives next to his best friend, has a job he works at purely out of love, and generally doesn't have any responsibilities or obligations to worry about. That's the conflict of the first movie, how Spongebob is a kid essentially playing pretend grown up. It's interesting that, at least during this stage of development, Spongebob as kid isn't mentioned. Again, having some minor grounding elements like rent, dating, and Spongebob being at least somewhat frustrated in his job by not getting employee of the month - could have made the show very different. Something a little closer to Rocko's Modern Life, which makes sense given Stephen Hillenburg worked on that too.

We know that in today's narrative, entropy must give way to harmony eventually, and it will. But not before a transcendence occurs. For Sponge Boy transcends his world by affecting it. as a person who watched every season and spin off
    The show had potential to be cancelled or zombified during season 9 and this man came back and fixed most of the issues the dark era had.
    This show is now a mixture between the pitch bible and the dark era. Spongebob lost his desire to fit it, but still is a positive sponge who likes his friends and finds joy in the most common ways. Patrick depends on the episode if it's more about him than spongebob he's the dumb dude guy, but after hillemburg's return, he's the gas of spongebob's fire again instead of the contrary during seasons 5-9. Squidward is know for being a punching bag during seasons 4-9, now it's the punching bag, but he was buffed recovering his traits from the bible and getting more cartoony pain instead of... stuff like the nail. Mr. Krabs was buffed, he's more like the season 2 Mr. krabs. Sandy is weird, writters don't know if she's smart or a sports fan, wich actually was an issue since season 2. Pearl now has a phone. Ms puff now is in a relationship with mr krabs but still has some weird behaviors from the dark era.

    Bible is the general term for a show guide. They call it a Bible because they list the rules of the show, and you must follow those rules. Every show has one.

    idk I kinda like the whole exploration subplot being bought back. In like around season 10 or 11 the French Narrator's character is extended so that he's actually a marine biologist who's observing the Bikini Bottom from a distance. He has an old fashioned diving suit like the Bikini Atoll nuclear experiment researchers

    Discern what you know about the latter of the yellow sponge's success, and it becomes recognizable how Nickelodeon treated Hillenburg and the characters after his death. Overall, Stephen Hillenberg's characters are insanely lovable, and he created a world where it pushes through boundaries through subliminal and blatant means while touching the hearts of an entire audience. That is what makes Spongebob Squarepants the most eclectic show of its time.

  • @CSSP_1188
    @CSSP_1188 3 года назад +3

    I would actually like to see spongebob rebooted with a different art style, different character designs, aesthetic and colour pallet but going back to it's original style of animation and comedy, maybe a good approach to this would be for it to be entirely accurate to Stephen Hillenberg's original vision for sponge boy, obviously just using the name spongebob. It might even be interesting to see a spongebob movie that follows the same format as the spongebob bible, a mocumentary presenting itself as a factual account of the discovery of bikini bottom. It would be really cool to see Barnacle Bill in his original state and hear the evermore dramatic retellings of how he came to be essentially a wooden clockwork cyborg. I like the more quirky and rough-around-the-edges art style of Hillenberg's original sketches and it'd make for a nice animation style. I honestly think that's how they should've gone about keeping spongebob alive after Stephen Hillenberg's passing, instead of making these unfaithful and kinda lazy prequels and reboots. It would've actually been a powerful way to honour Hillenberg by bringing his original, unaltered, unfiltered vision to life for either a movie or a one-off episode. It'd actually be even better as a movie because they could try and fit in a lot of those original episode drafts. They could even include Sponge Boy as one of Spongebob's nicknames, since his name is actually Robert Harold Square Squarepants then that means Spongebob is also just a nickname. Idk, it's just a thought. This comment ended up being a lot longer and more fleshed out than I intended 😅.

    • @sammyjaohnson5631
      @sammyjaohnson5631 2 года назад

      They have refrenced spongeboy like showed a sketch of him in an episode and also theyv only made 1 "prequal" wich is kamp koral but kk is complicated cause it takes place in an alternate reality but anyway yeah iv been thinking the same thing it would be cool if they made an episode with the the original style colors of spongeboy ahoy it seems like somthing they would do
