I absolutely loved your performance as Rigby over the course of seven wonderful years, William. Regular Show was one of my favorite cartoons ever and you played such a huge part of that enjoyment. Thank you.
honestly those movies are amazing about handling this since Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman went all out on this (and it doesn't feel like anyone else got exploited (although I don't think Seth Rogan was STUPIDLY Popular when the first one came out) (Heck I don't think anyone not named Jack Black/Angleina Jolie showed up for pre release stuff for any of them other than maybe Brian Cranston for the third one (AND EVEN THEN If I didn't know he was in that going in I probably wouldn't have recognized him until the Credits hit ))
The only time celebrity voice acting works for me is if the celebrity is a comedian. Like Chris rock as Marty and Eddie Murphy as Mushu. They actually put an energetic kick in their character acting unlike other celebrities who don't know how to act....well, animated.
Actors like Mark Hamill, Keith David, Clancy Brown, James Earl Jones, J.K. Simmons, Ron Perlman, Robin Williams, Tony Todd, Michael Ironside, Tim Curry, Malcom McDowell, Michael Dorn, and Jack Black are perfect examples of celebrities who are just as capable at voice acting as they are at acting live on set.
To be fair; if I had a voice like Mark Hamill, Keith David, Clancy Brown, James Earl Jones, JK Simmons, Tony Todd, Michael Ironside or even Jack Black; I'd literally never shut up, I'd be talking forever
Here after the Mario movie casting. Mario is now Chris Pratt, not Charles Martinet, the man who has played him for like, the last 20 years. It's kinda really sad.
I have no idea whether it's Nintendo or Illumination's decision, but it's awful. If Charles was okay with Chris Pratt as Mario, that would be good, but we have no clue :-(
@@yoshisarethebomb I'm pretty sure the reason was because doing most of the Mario voices really takes a toll on Charles' voice, which is also why Wario talks less in the recent WarioWare
@@FlintandStone1 Still, they could've hired an actual seasoned voice actor who is sure to bring new life to Mario's character instead of relying on worthless star power. That goes for the whole cast.
I remember reading a review of the MLP movie from 2017 where the reviewer basically dismissed the VAs of the Mane Six as "a bunch of nobodies." We're talking about people like Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Germain, and Ashleigh Ball - industry veterans with years of experience. Man, that pissed me off.
Me too! I was pissed off when the movie adds came on and all they were talking about were the celebrity cameos. I was like, "Wait. aren;t Tara Strong and Cathy Wiseluck in this too?! Or did they already go into retirement?!"
It's physically impossible to call Tara Strong a nobody She's like the Mia Khalifa of voice acting (I couldn't think of a different comparison rn OK 😆) Even people who aren't into voice acting know her and respects her
that is so ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if those with that same mind-set praised the voice acting of the endless (and pointless) celebrity cameo voices which were either barely noticeable or not even good. Emily Blunt as Tempest Shadow is the only one whom stood out. Otherwise, the other "celebrities" were on auto-pilot and some of them I never even remember whom they played.
Let’s not forget that dee bradly baker voiced every clone in the clone wars and had to give them as many personalities as possible to define each of them.
Voicing a character for decades with little replacements is a huge deal, considering not everyone here in the U.S. gets to do the voice for less than a decade because of their voice acting studio is not the same place and would have to move out of their homes in California and go to New York. Everyone in Japan knows Goku's voice, everyone on the planet knows Mario's voice. No celebrity would make the character better just because his or her career is booming. They get replaced anyway for cartoons and games so why the hell were they casted? Stallone was in the Ratchet and Clank movie as this big security bot then gets replaced in the videogame. I love the guy but it such a waste of money to voice him for the movie.
I think they treat voice acting as an actual sort of acting than they do in the U.S. For example, if you look up "voice acting schools in" either America or Japan, America gives filmmaking results not voice acting results. Meanwhile, if you search for Japan, you get a school in Tokyo that focus *only* in voice acting. Basically, Japan treats it as an actual art of acting while the U.S. doesn't (which might explain why so many anime English dubs are so bad...)
What I like about Japanese voice actors is that they're all trained and a single person could voice an entire show by themselves. So much range in each and every VA.
japanese "celebrity actors" in voice acting are usually celebrities BECAUSE they're good, hence why people act shocked when they find out their favourite shounen protagonists share voices with cannibalistic vampire-things and stuff like that.
@@macaronitony93 tbf tho, Troy Baker has more range than Nolan North. He just gets type-casted into similar sounding roles lol Same with Matt Mercer. Matt Mercer can flex those vocals far as fuck, but he gets thrown into roles that sound similar
At least GTA V was actually interesting and the characters had actual personalities instead of just slapping the actors in the face of the players as much as possible for marketing like some of the games. It's do-able, but more often than not they are too lazy to do anything more than "Hey, we have THIS ONE POPULAR CELEBRITY in the game!".
Something I LOVED to see recently was Tara Strong (one of the most prolific voice actresses) getting a special credit in the Loki series for her role as Miss Minutes. A voice actor getting TOP BILLING next to Hollywood superstars like Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson was awesome!
I’m a voice actor nerd and I can’t see an animated movie or watch an animated show or dub without googling the voice actors first. I can’t stand thinking “I know that voice!” The entire run time of the movie. Lol
this is why i love japan's voice acting situation, the voice actors themselves are treated as celebrities because of the roles they have taken in, you don't see movie actors taking voice acting roles or voice actors take on movie acting roles, they're both respected equally for their prowess at their field
In japan voice actors have taken movie/commercial acting roles. But that's mostly because their career spans more into the "idol" industry where they happen to voice act as well.
That's what I also said, voice actors in Japan are the main attraction of any animation work, and if you get around watching just enough, you'll easily be able to recognize their voices, maybe most people don't memorize their actual names but will definitely recognize the character they played once!
@@Applebomb8D I don't think that's entirely true, voice actors and idols are two entirely different entities, voice actors in general are required to be able to sing and "dance" to an extent, and have a certain stage presence, sure, but they have more "free will" in their personal lives I feel like, unlike idols, where they're literally treated almost as if they're just beautiful robots that belong to, and are property of the creeps (men AND women) who lowkey highkey worship them.... Sure a similar treatment *HAS* seeped into the voice acting fans scene, but it's not nearly as promenant as the idol fans scene. Just look at how idols are treated and perceived when they're "caught out with someone" vs a voice actor who announced their marriage.... It's almost as if for the most part, VA fans don't give a shit about their favorite VA's personal life, they can do whatever the frick they want as long as it doesn't hinder their work output or something, that's why the most frequent statement in these marriage announcements is a "I will continue my work as usual, thank you for the continuous support" or some sort.... This turned into a longer reply than intended but ah well, sorry for bothering ^^;
People need to recognize that voice acting is acting, and it’s hard work. It’s not just doing a funny voice or a sub-par impression; it’s being able to maintain that voice/impression through several takes, through various emotions and scenarios, and still be able to embody a character. Even if you have a distinctive voice, distinct voices still have to have versatility. The relationship that anime fans have to voice actors is very apparent with this. Anime fans can name/recognize their favorite voice actors within seconds, but they can also be terribly critical when an English dub gets announced and the characters “don’t sound right”. I think that’s one of the reasons why the sub/dub discourse is so strong, because to anime fans, a character is more “authentic” in a certain language.
there's also the fact where a lot of the time anime dubs are recorded separately so they can't play off each other as easily like the JP VAs that record in one room
Dub VAs don't get nearly enough credit. There are some amazing ones out there (granted dubbing isn't all they do and I don't watch much anime so I've never stumbled upon the low-budget niche stuff).
Yeah, he nails that role so well. Even today with so much access and intentional advertising many don't even know, and in a way it's a cool thing. That he can stretch his voice to be so different. I remember him in one episode of the flash (CW back when the show was good) having him be "trickster" where he sounded similiar and acted similiar, it felt like he was showing off lol. To think that's Luke the kid whose the son of vader and well, all of the elements of star wars that are both typical and unique, or what it requires to play that role versus voicing the freaking joker, is astounding.
Hamill's a great voice actor but no, man, you can't think of Luke because his voice has changed drastically since he acted in ROTJ, I think it actually could be the other way around, you can think of the Joker when hearing him acting as Luke nowadays, again, because of how much his voice has and keeps changing with age.
I'm so sick of these lame high budget animated films that slams these American actors I never heard of, they all care of gaining money from big names and don't realized a skilled voice actor is far more important
I find most celebrity voice acting really bland because they aren't trained in voice acting also alot of the time they are just speaking in their normal voice.
@@orangeslash1667 I liked him as Flint Lockwood in Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. And Fear in Inside Out. Plus I think he’s done some voice acting for South Park.
VA isn't about doing voices, it's about acting with your voice. You need to know basic acting skills but most celebs are too stuck on camera work and don't take VA seriously enough hence the poorer performance. Also some celebs are too known for their voice (Patrick Warburton for one) and don't really have as much range as people with normal voices.
Fun fact alan oppenhiemer voice most of the characters from the original he man show including, but not limited to, Cringer, man at arms, merman, roboto, many one-off roles, and his most iconic voice ever done, skeletor
I fucking love his voice for Skeletor, the perfect mix of campy, evil, ridiculous and weirdly menacing ....... exactly like the character I don't know how you can pull off such a perfect performance but he sure did
That might've had something to do with the fact that the show was done by Filmation Associates. A studio notorious for doing things on the cheap and dirty. All American Made cheap and dirty however. They're also responsible for the 70's Star Trek TV Series and that Ghostbusters show with 2 guys and an ape. "Which predated the 84 Columbia One."
I feel like the most underrated voice actor out there is Nancy Cartwright because even decades on, you still get people not believing that Bart is voiced by a woman
And she also voices a whole bunch of Bart's peers (I think she also voices Nelson, among others). My favorite tidbit about her is that she initially auditioned to voice Lisa.
What do they think? That a now-43-year-old man is still doing the same voice he did at age 10, having been fed puberty blocking hormones or becoming a castrato in order to continue voicing him? It's an industry standard for women to voice boys in animation; like Veronica Taylor as O.G. 4Kids Ash Ketchum.
@@pickles3128 Well that's a pretty extreme way of putting it and also an incredibly dumb argument cause there's tons of animated shows that have casted actual little boys and just recasted them when the kid grew out of the role and generally nobody even notices for instance Chester from Fairly Odd Parents was played by Franky Muniz and Jason Marsden did anyone actually notice when the voice suddenly changed one day? NOPE
Looking back, the "original" Lion King actually had loads of celebrities and the animators did draw the characters based on their mannerism. James Earl Jones and Jeremy Irons are well respected actors. Jonathan Taylor Thomas one of the most famous teen idol back then. Even the side characters are star studded, with Whoopi Goldberg, Rowan Atkinson, Cheech Marin etc. However, all parts of that movie are just blended so perfectly that I couldn't criticize it lol.
At least those celebrities either had experience as voice actors or were comedians. The remake used singers as voice actors and most singers can't act their way out of a paper bag.
I'm reminded of what I heard Zach Aguilar (the voice of Male Byleth in Fire Emblem/Smash Bros, Male Traveler/Aether in Genshin Impact, and Koichi in JoJo Part 4 and others) said about VA work on one of his signing streams. The Japanese industry has TONS of respect for voice actors, wherein they're brought to several events for the games, movies, and anime that they voice for. Namely though, he said that voice actors are usually in the same room as they voice lines for characters in a scene. For dubs and even some video game voice over however, a lot of times a director has to bring in one actor at a time to dub over ALL of a character's lines for an episode, or even for just one scene. This is why some anime dubs, despite being performed well, can feel as though the characters aren't listening to each other in a conversation. There's also what I recall Morgan Berry's (voice actress of Thirteen from My Hero Academia, Altena from Fire Emblem, and Rindo from Food Wars) recent appearance at a con where she also said that VA work is inconsistent and you would be doing that work, not for money or fame, but for the love of the art of voice acting. It's a wonderful art, but it isn't very appreciated in the public eye, not as much as on-screen actors are.
@Janeiro I what’s wrong with new voice actors like the two he mentioned? I mean when the old ones pass away, someone’s got to take up the mantle, otherwise their will be no more voice actors.
alex hirsch voiced lile 26 characters in gf, he also voiced old man (and young) mcgucket and "additional voices," and also soos i didnt say soos at first cause someone else in the replies said it but i want it to also be in my reply so it is now
@@haydenfisher1387 Out of that list, ONLY Jack Black could work as his character (Bowser). But he also happens to have a lot of vocal talent, and has been doing voice acting for a long time. The rest are just... no.
Most underrappreciated voice actor of all time is J. K. Simmons. The man voices the Yellow M&M since 1996 and nobody knows, but as soon as he voices Omni Man people are like "wow J K Simmons is a surprisingly good voice actor"
The most underappreciated voice actors of all time are those we don't know the name of. JK Simmons is pretty well off compared to the people who actually made our childhood. This comment underappreciates voice actors as well.
"Name a single person whose primary career is voice acting" I immediately said Dee Bradley Baker. The guy is a beast, voiced both Momo & Appa in ATLA, and his most impressive role, voicing all Clones in the Clone Wars and giving them distinct personality from the voice, even if it's the same voice. Oh and he has a lot more roles than that, in so many shows too
This man voiced the fucking Gravemind from Halo 2-3 and I went so long without knowing my favorite clones and a giant omnipotent tentacle abomination had the same voice actor.
Troy Baker how to get into video game voice acting: "Wait, for Nolan North and I to die." Seriously tho, I really didn't get that point in the video, Tara Strong was who I thought of first, and then there's still people Steve Blum, Grey Delisle, Phil LaMarr, and Johnny Yong Bosch, most of the time you're hearing like the same 5 to 10 people over and over again, you're gonna eventually find out who they are.
@@DaDualityofMan Definitely, similar case with Cree Summer and Greg Cipes, like their tone of voice is recognizable a mile away. But seriously, Troy Baker and Nolan North are awesome. Like one day they do Joker and Deadpool, and the other day they do Loki and Penguin (Nolan's Penguin is amazing)
@@Merdicano Of course they're all great voice actors, it can be break your immersion always hearing the same voices over and over again tho, like Cree Summer even pointed out that she voices most black female characters lol
When she asked us to think of a voice actor, the first ones that came to mind were - Tara Strong, Mat Mercer, Laura Bailey and Luci Christian. The last two are my favorite voice actress's. There are a few newer VAs I really like but I don't know their names well enough yet to think of them off the top of my head. I also thought of Justin Royland- I think is his name. The Rick and Morty guy.
I wish voice actors could one day be mainstream celebrities, but maybe human nature is just too visual to appreciate somebody whose face we don't see on screen. Sigh...
I know that voice actors are much more appreciated in Japan, or so many other commenters claim. Voice acting is recognized as an actual industry with schools dedicated to it.
VA's having celebrity status due only to their voice acting roles is definitely already a thing in Japan, but the culture around animation as a whole is pretty different there compared to the west. Who knows tho, maybe someday western VAs will finally get the recognition they deserve!
A GOOD example of celebrity voice acting is johnny depp as rango. When i’m watching that movie I completely forget he’s the one behind the character since the voice acting is great and the animation is even better
I think that, in general, celebrity voice actors aren’t great, however people like Danny DeVito and Dwayne Johnson who give their characters so much personality are great for the industry.
I agree! If they sound like they genuinely care about giving a good performance, that's great! And there are a bunch of celebs who really did a great job with voice acting roles. Just sucks when an experienced/great voice actor is passed over for someone who you can tell is only there for the check lol, and when celeb performances dominate the movie's marketing rather than letting the story/characters take center stage
@@Flameclaw123 like that one time that charli damelio was in something, and the behind the scenes were literally just her unenthusiastically standing there and reading
Some, buy not many. Jack Black embodied his character (Po) but it's hard to even watch Lion King with straight face. It's cheesy, and somewhat uninspiring.
I can’t believe Charles Martinet got snubbed for Chris Pratt in the new Mario Bros. movie. Who’s boneheaded decision was that? It’s like they took some of the most popular actors at the moment and said, “yeah that’ll do.” The guys been voicing Mario for 25 years now, you would think that’d be a no-brainer. Also Keegan-Michael Key as Toad?! I hope he just talks like himself.
I agree but disagree on using Charles for a full length movie, he is good for video games but his voice will become annoying pretty quickly, also the really awkward and force story scenes in recent Mario games don't help. But remember is Illusion studios the ones that think bananas and farts is good comedy.
I argue that DreamWorks is when the animation industry really pushed star-power. I think it works in some movies - Shrek has an All-Star cast, and I think sometimes the VA is used as part of a joke. Bee Movie is Seinfeld's stupid movie, so Seinfeld being the bee is fine. When I think of this, I also think of Scoob!, Which kicked off lots of it's main cast to make way for celebrities.
I dont know, I don't watch animated movies, but I follow multiple game and anime voice actors. Like Jonis scott, the voice actor for legoshi in beastars, or Nathan, the voice actor for scout tf2.
I've never really enjoyed celebrity voice acting either. Hot take, most celebrities just can't act. Some are alright though; like Patrick Warburton. Even if he always sounds the same he's definitely proved he has acting chops.
@@marygraceoyangorin8918 If you can generally act well you can voice act well. Even if you can't do a ton of different voices, a good actor can communicate emotion with a voice.
One of my best friends since childhood is a professional voice actress. She moved to LA right after high school and has been working in the industry now for over a decade … I never knew what went into it until she started telling me about it. They are so unappreciated it’s ridiculous, and she’s just now really starting to see her career take off. Thanks for this video (: My friend is Ryan Bartley, go support her!
Can she get Shona grunewald and Sydney Paige to Hollywood just to voice cartoon cats rather than Tim Tebow? Even though Tim Tebow is still a good person despite not voicing a cat?
This is very well put! Give credit where it's due. I was so surprised/happy to hear Tara Strong's voice and be given a special credit as Miss Minutes in Loki, given it was a big-budget Disney/Marvel production.
The one instance that hurt the most was honestly Scoob! for me. Scooby Doo is pretty well known for having the same VAs for years if not decades on end. Like Frank Welker has been voicing Fred since the series was started but was passed over for Zac Efron, which even though he was able to voice Scooby another very iconic role is so terrible. It really did hurt to see that and even though I believe that the movie had a lot of good Easter eggs in the plot and visuals the fact that they disrespected such an integral part to the series just made me feel so angry. Voice actor's honestly deserve so much more recognition and the fact that they're seen as so disposable sucks so much. Traditional celebrities and actors get enough time in the spotlight with them showing their face with just about every role they get, but voice actors never get this type of recognition unless it's within animation fanbases.
@@rinchxa Yh I remember when I read that. I mean ngl Scooby Doo has a history of mistreating vas tho, the whole Kasem bk commercial fiasco was a thing. But you would think they'd learn from that esp. after fixing it just to have him back on What's New. And it's esp. cruel cuz Lillard has history with Kasem so idk if you really are tryna pay tribute Lillard is obviously someone you'd want to involve imo. And like this wouldn't happen if Va's were viewed on the same level as "traditional" celebs it honestly sucks that they're seen as so disposable and never get their flowers beyond either the fan base or the occasional "OMG TARA LITERALLY VOICED OUR CHILDHOOD" post.
They didn't consider Grey Delise either, who has voiced Daphne for about 20 years at this point and is obviously fantastic at it. The voice acting in that movie was so, SO bad. One of the few AAA animated movies where I winced at the acting and not just the writing. It's not like Scooby Doo is some sort of creatively invigorating series or anything, either. I love it, but it's kind of pathetic when the triple A movie has less love put into it than the made for TV movies - which are sometimes really great, IMO. I really enjoyed the recent pumpkin one much more than Scoob!
@@robotortoise Yh all the voice acting sounded like when you go to a party and someone does an impression of scooby characters lmfao. It's really insane bc Delisle is a legend in her own right so definitely should have enough clout to get onto a project like that. And yeah I agree that it seems that the straight to video movies are way better. They feel more true to the series, not just bc of the voices but with the writing and plots as well. It's insane that you can create so much outrage with a Scooby Doo movie like how does that even happen.
In Japan, with anime specifically, voice actors and voice actresses are literally one of the most important selling points. Take Rie Takahashi for example, she is LOVED by anime fans. Japanese give them pod casts, talk shows and public talks so they can be recognized and acclaimed. Like you said, my brother, sister and I look for voice actors and go *OH MY GOD, IT'S THE SAME GIRL* or, *You can totally notice his accent on this one.*
I really liked how DreamWorks used to do it. Even if they had a star-studded voice cast, each one of those celebrities performed very well and brought something to the character. I especially liked it when you couldn't even tell who they were until after you check the credits. Nowadays, they'll just cast whoever just because they happened to be a popular actor that year. Edit: Also, I think the reason why American dubs for anime is so bad is because a lot of the time, those VAs are monolinguals. When you know more than one language, you know that your voice changes whenever you speak a different language. How you sound in one language is gonna be different from how you sound in another. These American VAs try so hard to replicate Japanese voices but they should just try to voice characters in a way that's appropriate for the character.
Dreamworks back then they hired celebrities to who would fit the characters voice, their 4 big franchises did it like Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and HTTYD. When I watch those films I don’t hear the celebrities voice I hear the characters voice. Nowadays they’ll hire anyone for who is the popular celebrity and their newer movies don’t have the same charm their 4 franchises had.
@@JonathanGaeta indeed, Dreamworks managed celebrity casting very well, even on the dub for Latin America, but I must say I have a small dislike with Rise of the Guardians's cast in English, I like all the voices (Sandman VA was the best tho) but Chris Pine just sounds too adult for Jack, here in Latin America they casted an adult singer as his dubber but his voice sounds more appropriate for Jack's age
@@NimTV she also voices, Vicky and toodie from fairly odd parents, Mandy from the grim adventures of billy and Mandy, and a character in she ra that I can’t remember the name of. These are just a few of her many many roles in cartoons
VAing in american animation is weird to look at as someone who really likes seiyuu in anime-- the voice cast is actually a pretty BIG motivator for me to watch an anime! As far as I can tell, seiyuu seem to have a semi-"celebrity"/idol status in japan (prominently amongst anime circles) and it feels like a far cry from how we treat VAs here in the states. Is Saori Hayami voicing the main girl in Kakegurui a selling point of the show? Well... I'd argue yes, but I love Hayamin 😫 how similar would you consider seiyuu to be to "celebrity voice actors"?
i talked to another commenter about something similar actually!! i think it really boils down to the fact that animation completely dominates japanese society EXPONENTIALLY more than it does really anywhere else--meaning; voice actors would be put on similar pedestals to actual movie/tv stars. popular seiyuus (like hayamin) are celebrity voice actors for sure, but they're celebrities BECAUSE they're voice actors, as opposed to my definition of celebrity voice actors in the context of this video: people who voice act BECAUSE they're celebrities!
@@dogeatdog3579 I get what you mean! It's an interesting dichotomy to look at... I wonder, if we treated american VAs more similarly to seiyuu would that be better or worse 🤔but there is still a distinct difference between the whole "WATCH THIS MOVIE/SHOW IT HAS [person] IN IT" marketing versus YOU looking at a cast and going "Oh Shit, Kana Hanazawa. must watch"
@@gamjabyte I actually do that for some shows. Patrick Seitz as DIO got me fanboying so hard for him that I finished Konosuba just for his role as the hysterical Headless Knight. Matthew Mercer as McCree also motivated me to watch the dub of Stardust Crusaders as he was Jotaro there. The surprisingly stellar English voice acting cast of Genshin Impact made me discover Sean Chiplock (Guido Mista/Diluc), which in turn lead me to discover Ray Chase as Bucciarati and the Owl (AoT)
This is something I'm scared will take away from MLP G5, since at the moment the voice actors are almost being shown more than the characters themselves
I agree. I got concerned when Liza Koshy was shown to be the voice of Zipp Storm. Liza isn’t a voice actress, nor is she a very good actress in general in my opinion. She’s best known for her career as a vine comedian. It’s almost like they used liza’s and the other voice actors’ existing fame to market and promote the show instead of focusing on the story and characters
Most of them have some experience with voice acting but I do wonder if they only got that experience because they were celebrities in the first place. Atleast I can say Kimiko Glenn, Phil Lamarr and possibly James Marsden will have good performances
I was thinking the same thing! Now with the trailer out, I was worrying about a lot of things in general (will the celebrity voice actors return for the show, will their voices be memorable, etc.) They even had a scene in the trailer listing off the big name actors
R M lol yeah, the voice line delivery for Rarity and Twilight was always on point. They turned two of the most annoying archetypes into very memorable and lovable characters
"Close your eyes and name a voice actor, any voice actor at all" Jim Cummings, man's a legend. Everything from Pooh to Pete to the Terror Mask from Splatterhouse.
**laughs in video games** I mean there are people out there willing to identify the voice actors in samples off sound libraries because nobody will credit those people.
Don't forget Tara Strong and Matt Mercer. They're all talented voice actors, but honestly I'm getting sick of hearing them at this point. It feels like they've reached celebrity status (at least within the voice acting world) and now they get all the jobs. I'd imagine they don't have to put up with all the abusive shit that the "lesser" voice actors do, either.
One thing I’ve noticed about older animated films and newer ones is how they’re marketed. Older trailers tend to talk about the film’s plot, while newer ones waste no opportunity to tell you which characters are being voiced by who.
I wonder if Mark Hamill is even more proud for his performance as the voice of the Joker than his real life performance as Luke, because he does really seem to get into the role.
@@Shadewaltz No that's fair, but i think the issue is more that it's a celebrity taking over the role of an established voice actor. I obv don't think they'll do a bad job though. But in terms of the actual production I don't trust Illumination given their track record of prioritising marketing above all else.
My toxic trait is recognizing the voice actor “John DiMaggio or Tara strong and others” and then telling you every piece of work I can possibly remember them in
Cree Summers, Tara Strong and Grey Delisle are VA queens, and especially with Tara Strong (since she has such a wide range) it's fun to pick them out in any animation I watch ♡
Strong has just about as much range as Patrick Warburton. I can instantly pick up her shrill voice, which is handy because lets me know I can change the channel.
As someone who works with voice actors on a regular basis, I concur they are underrated, underappreciated and generally unknown to the public. Great video! PS: Space Jam rules!
At least in latin america the dubs uses voice/dub actors instead of celebrities and sometimes, a celebrity is put in there, so the really bad impressions are replaced with good stuff most of the time
Latin america is a weird case becasuse every movie needs voice actors to be in spanish. And thats why we have so many great ones (Blas Garcia being my favourite). The sad thing is that the "celebrification" has already started in here as well, but it is only for animated movies, like when Netflix hired Yatra to do the voice of Jesper in Klaus (which sound horrible imo) because they hoped that would make the latin crowd more interested in the movie. But that is just another sign of how underapreciated animation is, because i am sure they would never hire the celebrity of the moment to voice the main the role of an Scorsese movie.
My one issue with latin dub is that they use the same VAs for everything over and over again. I wouldn't mind hearing unknown voices in many series but it can be annoying to find out that the same dude who voiced an important character in X episode of X series is also voicing four different dudes in Y episode of the same X series. despite that, I love latin dub, the passion it has is unique just the way both japanese and english dubs have their own charm.
While I do agree that the Oscars in general are a shit-show, even a blind chicken sometimes finds a worm (or it has been led there by money/connections). As much as I agree that 2014 wasn't great, I rather appreciated Mr. Hublot (Animated short Award).
voice acting in video games are really appreciated from what I've seen. When TF2'S soldier voice actor died, the entire TF2 community celebrated what he done

The only way I can imagine someone being immersed in TF2 is through roleplaying as the mercenaries or maybe being captivated by the comics that flesh out the world of the game.
a good indicator of how underappreciated the profession is is how some people consider impersonating a character the exact thing same as voice acting them. voice acting is a complex process that is more than doing a wacky voice, or sounding like someone else, there's the direction, expression, technique, etc. when consumers start to realize the work it takes and at least some of the nuance the business has, that's when they'll probably have higher standards other than just "omg, my most fav singer evarrr is in this Disney movie, that's like, totes neat"
The anime fandom cares about animation. That care extends to voice actors, I think. I've learned all my favorite voice actors as a result. I also enjoy when celebrities take a shot at the craft. It's charming to see what kind of performance comes out of them with their different background. I think if the US cared about animation, critically, the way we view its performers would change and they'd get the similar treatment to people who sell their "face" or "presence"
I get hyped whenever I hear the pitch of Overhaul/Nanamis voice or Law/Levi’s, or *any* of people who sound like Dio lol. I don’t know names well, but I can’t even name normal actors well anyway. I think anime does good too
Depends on if you're talking subs or dubs. Dubs are pretty good these days, but they all have practically the same cast so they can feel a bit samey. But it's a lot more prestigious in Japan to be a voice actor in the first place, so there's a bigger range of really talented actors there.
Well he's also a stand-up comedian, a damn good one, just like Robin Williams before Disney picked him up. Without a doubt, John had a lot of potential and he showed it through and through.
A couple of other comments have pointed out that comedians tend to be the better celebrity voice actors because they're used to giving exaggerated larger than life performances. Like Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy in Shrek were genuinely genius casting choices.
Sorry but after Big Mouth and Into the Spider-Verse, can we even call him a celebrity voice actor anymore? Nah. That man is straight up just the next great voice actor period.
As an aspiring VA, this was honestly really interesting. This was an excellently well-put-together video! (And about your final lil bit about recognizing voices, for me, it's always "weren't they in a Barbie movie??" which turns into "Weren't they in My Little Pony?" (I cannot escape from Tabitha St Germain or Ashleigh Ball fjgsfhgjfdgdfg)) But seriously, this video rocks and inspires me to think about my own performance!
Hell yeah dude, the MLPFIM actors are so underrated IMO, Andrea Libman in particular. Her Pinkie Pie is so unique and it's very special to me, especially having grown up with the show and following the yearly Comic Cons.
loved this video, i could have watched 2 hours of it! it’s helped me fully realize the problem of celebrities taking over voiceover roles. i’ve always had a kind of surface level opinion like “yeah, it really sucks, of course voice actors deserve better,” but now i just feel terrible. especially with that space jam: a new legacy example. i aspire to be a voice actor for animated movies and shows, and it sucks knowing that major characters will most likely be taken by celebrities while VAs, who have dedicated an entire CAREER to the art, are “additional voices.” i loved how you phrased the sentence that you’re not “anti-celebrities-voice-acting,” but “pro-voice-actor,” because i feel the same way! in some cases, i’ve been introduced to some of my current favorite famous actors due to their VO role in an animated film, such as ralph fiennes as rameses in the prince of egypt. on the other hand, i just want voice actors to get the same treatment. i really hope something will change someday. i believe a way for major companies to market VAs is do so on the same level as their celebrity counterparts, so in the future when those VAs are on other projects, the general public can say “oh that’s _____, they voiced _______!” that way, voice actors get the credit they deserve AND have a breakout role, and companies can rake in cash from those people who came in to see that VA in their project. cause ya know, companies are greedy lol.
Great video, and I agree that the celebrification of voice acting is bad. The one thing I feel got neglected is how Anime (despite the fact I don't watch it) has gotten pretty popular again, this time with an older audience, and their voice actors tend to be celebrated.
True, but in the case of Japan voice acting is a serious job (with dark undertones lurking beneath once you dig deep enough) and it is a requirement for Japanese VAs to have as wide of a vocal range as possible to make the characters they voice distinguishable from each other. As such, most Japanese VAs don't fall into, say, Seth Rogan voice acting. Each and every character they voice has a unique voice, and in the (alarmingly but gradually increasing, yet still bearable) cases that they're not, a unique quirk or personality that separates the character to the voice actor. Famous VAs, for example Rie Takahashi, are deemed famous for having these distinguishable voices (in her case, like Re:Zero's Emilia's soft but confident tone compared to her KonoSuba's Megumin's aggressive reckless tone).
Again? It's never been popular. It's only recently where anime has started to become popular and gain mass market appeal. I'll always respect how they treat they're voice actors up top with celbrities compared to here in the west.
this video is referring to the context of hollywood's mistreatment of voice actors, not misrepresentation as a whole. anime doesn't have a huge foothold in hollywood aside from maybe the occasional netflix show, so it's point as a representative medium is fairly moot
Lol when she said "name a voice actor", I just went "Matt Mercer, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Marisha Ray, Ashley Johnson, Taliesin Jaffe, Sam Reigel, Liam O'brien." Critical Role has given me a gift, of knowing any voice actors
My immediate first thoughts in response to the question was "Robbie Daymond, Xander Mobus, Yuri Lowenthal, Johnny Young Bosch, Joe Zeija" and I later thought more, also including Matt Mercer. Gamers just built different I guess. Specifically weeb gamers.
Sadly, the marketing of certain films like The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water and Teen Titans Go to the Movies did not have their iconic voice actors marketed in the trailers and TV spots. But the end credits made up for that as they credited those voices. I was surprised when I saw the SpongeBob VA’s on the big screen. Just recently, Space Jam New Legacy credited Jeff Bergman and Eric Bauza in the opening credits before Zendaya. That was surprising. I hated the marketing and one of the TV spots went so far to the point of using red carpet footage of Zendaya to hype up which her Lola Bunny had less lines compared to Bugs Bunny. And Kath Soucie being replaced late into post production just makes it more dethpicable
I know what you mean. I hated it when they did adds for the My Little Pony movie and all they showed were the celebrities. I was like, "Hey,. wait, isn;t Tara Strong and Andrea Leibman in this?! Why aren't THEY mentioned?! Like little kids are gonna care about these celebrities?!"
Mark Hamill is a good example of celebrity VA done right. When he voices the roles of say Skips (Regular Show), the Joker or Ozai (Avatar the Last Airbender), I could never tell as a kid who the VA was. Not just because of his vocal range, but because it truly felt like he was voicing a different character each time with their own motivations, struggles and ideals.
Billy west, John DiMaggio, Dan Castleineta, and Maurice Lamarche all came to my head. I may be in the small majority. But I love watching voice actors and behind the scenes clips
I think there have been a few celebrities who have done really well in voice acting. Like Robin Williams, Christian Bale etc. As long as they actually put heart and soul into it, I think it sounds great and I like it. But putting them in just because they are famous is a bad idea because most of the time they just can’t voice act.
Tom Kenny is a comedian and actor. He never signed up to be a voice actor necessarily; it's just that Carlos Alazraqui told him about auditions. Edit: And I love me some Billy West. Edit 2: Honestly tho, I don't mind that celebs voice act so much. I think it has some magic to it.

Fast forward to the Mario movie announcement and this videos message rings true even harder. What's worse, a lot of people legit do not understand why the star studded cast is actually not a good thing.
I hate most celebrities being used. I can’t stand someone getting a role just because they’re famous. Not based on talent. (Granted I know some voice actors do get their roles based on being famous. You get what I mean. Lol) I’ve been a voice actor nerd for most of my life and I named about seven when you asked me to. Haha 😅 but I know I’m one of the stranger people in that regard.
What’s your take on RUclipsrs getting into voice acting? The only two I can remember is the train wreck that was Hunt Down the Freeman, where they hired a bunch of RUclipsrs to voice the characters, it was horrible. Then their is LillyPichu a RUclipsr and streamer who got into voice acting after becoming semi famous on RUclips, though it seems she actually knows how to voice act, her most recent role being Sayu in Genshin Impact where she did an amazing job, though the fact it shows her RUclips channel in the credits makes it seem like they might have chosen her for being famous, though thank god it actually worked out
@@dinoshotgun it depends. If they’re just doing it as a dumb cash grab so they can market the movie, I hate it. But if they have a genuine passion and love for the craft of voice acting, and enough talent, I’m all for it.
thanks so much for this video! i've always been a huge cartoon fan, so to me, voice actors are like big-name stars and it always makes me sad when i realize that that's kind of just an animation nerd thing. they deserve a lot more respect and i'm glad someone else agrees :)
Phil LaMarr is my childhood and his range is phenomenal. Even though he's one of the most well known voice actors of all time, I still feel like he's underrated.
As a massive Transformers fan the only VAs I know about is obvi Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Steve Blum. I’m actually kinda surprised, as a big cartoon fan I’m not more aware of VAs. Granted I also don’t know many celebrities besides the ones that worked with marvel.
Bumblebee Movie’s treatment of Peter Cullen is pretty depressing when you read how the producers took him to play an imitation of a voice performance that wasn’t even his to begin with.
I'm so happy that somebody finally decided to talk about this specific problem in voice acting. As somebody who intends to become a VA for animation, I think it's extremely unfair to both beginners and veterans that celebrities are privileged enough to score major roles while also having their names so bluntly advertised in the marketing of animated media. Many VAs in the business aren't fortunate enough to receive those kinds of opportunities so easily, not even the most prolific ones. But when they do, most people don't ever recognize their voices because they're not big Hollywood stars who became famous for reasons outside of voice acting. This video seriously hit the nail on the head about why it happens. Kudos for making this. Edit: Coming back to this comment after the voice cast for the Mario movie has been revealed. Holy shit.
I have mad respect for your video essays. They're very thoughtful, in depth, and I can't wait to see how you, your channel, and your ideas evolve!! Thank you for occupying an hour or so of my time as I binged these :)

A great example of a voice actor becoming the character: Jack black as Po from Kung Fu Panda
Kung Fu Panda is masterpiece indeed
honestly those movies are amazing about handling this since Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman went all out on this (and it doesn't feel like anyone else got exploited (although I don't think Seth Rogan was STUPIDLY Popular when the first one came out) (Heck I don't think anyone not named Jack Black/Angleina Jolie showed up for pre release stuff for any of them other than maybe Brian Cranston for the third one (AND EVEN THEN If I didn't know he was in that going in I probably wouldn't have recognized him until the Credits hit ))
Kinda falls in the comedian rule
Mike Meyers, and Eddie Murphy in Shrek are some other good ones.
Didnt know Jack Black voiced him, mans a legend
The only time celebrity voice acting works for me is if the celebrity is a comedian. Like Chris rock as Marty and Eddie Murphy as Mushu. They actually put an energetic kick in their character acting unlike other celebrities who don't know how to act....well, animated.
Hey it’s NeroMai! Yeah I agree, lots of comedians do a surprisingly well job in va, like Robin Williams in Aladdin
Josh Gad as Olaf is iconic, and the whole Samantha gag from Frozen 2 was improvised. I definitely agree with you!

Know a lot of stuff Mark Hamill has been in, I wouldn't have even known it was him till I see the credits.
The problem with celebrity voice acting is that most celebrities who voice act are there because name big
To be fair the role that made James Earl Jones a celebrity was a voice acting role.

Here after the Mario movie casting. Mario is now Chris Pratt, not Charles Martinet, the man who has played him for like, the last 20 years. It's kinda really sad.
It should've been Charles
I have no idea whether it's Nintendo or Illumination's decision, but it's awful. If Charles was okay with Chris Pratt as Mario, that would be good, but we have no clue :-(

We're talking about people like Tara Strong, Cathy Weseluck, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St.
It's physically impossible to call Tara Strong a nobody

Japan’s voice acting world is a complete different story to the American industry from what I’ve seen
It’s very competitive. It’s almost the same there as it is in the West
Its starting to bleed into the gaming industry as well. Mocap an actor and their face and slap a lackluster story together. Its getting tedious.
I'm tired of them using Nolan North for basically everything [and to a lesser extent Tara Strong]. Like damn, people other than Nolan North exist.
@@hawktalon7890 thats how i feel about troy baker lol
@@macaronitony93 tbf tho, Troy Baker has more range than Nolan North. He just gets type-casted into similar sounding roles lol
Same with Matt Mercer. Matt Mercer can flex those vocals far as fuck, but he gets thrown into roles that sound similar
Yeah. As much as he’s a cool guy, Keanu Reeves did a really middling performance of Johnny Silverhand.
A voice actor getting TOP BILLING next to Hollywood superstars like Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson was awesome!

this is why i love japan's voice acting situation, the voice actors themselves are treated as celebrities because of the roles they have taken in, you don't see movie actors taking voice acting roles or voice actors take on movie acting roles, they're both respected equally for their prowess at their field
@@Applebomb8D I don't think that's entirely true, voice actors and idols are two entirely different entities, voice actors in general are required to be able to sing and "dance" to an extent, and have a certain stage presence, sure, but they have more "free will" in their personal lives I feel like, unlike idols, where they're literally treated almost as if they're just beautiful robots that belong to, and are property of the creeps (men AND women) who lowkey highkey worship them....
Sure a similar treatment *HAS* seeped into the voice acting fans scene, but it's not nearly as promenant as the idol fans scene.
Just look at how idols are treated and perceived when they're "caught out with someone" vs a voice actor who announced their marriage....
It's almost as if for the most part, VA fans don't give a shit about their favorite VA's personal life, they can do whatever the frick they want as long as it doesn't hinder their work output or something, that's why the most frequent statement in these marriage announcements is a "I will continue my work as usual, thank you for the continuous support" or some sort....
This turned into a longer reply than intended but ah well, sorry for bothering ^^;
exactly!! i read this as i got an ensemble stars ad LOL

@@DragN_H3art High Budget CGI movies aren't recorded together as well. Their recorded separately.

I think Mark Hamill is my favorite celebrity voice actor. When u hear him as the Joker u certainly don’t think of Luke Skywalker
And when you hear him as Fire Lord Ozai you don’t hear either Joker or Luke
I literally only think of mark hamill as joker. I actually forgot once that he played Luke skywalker because of his joker
Oh yeah! I recently found out he was the joker after I thought, 'what was he doing after the star wars series?'
Well, there ya go.
I'm so sick of these lame high budget animated films that slams these American actors I never heard of, they all care of gaining money from big names and don't realized a skilled voice actor is far more important

VA isn't about doing voices, it's about acting with your voice. Also some celebs are too known for their voice (Patrick Warburton for one) and don't really have as much range as people with normal voices.

He also voiced Merlin in The Legend of Prince Valiant, which a fantastic and highly underrated series
Bart has a super iconic voice and her talents are stunning, absolutely agree
And she also voices a whole bunch of Bart's peers (I think she also voices Nelson, among others). My favorite tidbit about her is that she initially auditioned to voice Lisa.
Wait, what? I had no idea Bart was voiced by a lady, damn that's awesome 🤩

"Name a single person whose primary career is voice acting"
I immediately said Dee Bradley Baker. The guy is a beast, voiced both Momo & Appa in ATLA, and his most impressive role, voicing all Clones in the Clone Wars and giving them distinct personality from the voice, even if it's the same voice. Oh and he has a lot more roles than that, in so many shows too
I know him best for Klaus from American Dad; I feel his manic energy. That only scratches the surface, tho.

You are aging yourself here
I really liked how DreamWorks used to do it. Even if they had a star-studded voice cast, each one of those celebrities performed very well and brought something to the character. I especially liked it when you couldn't even tell who they were until after you check the credits.
Nowadays, they'll just cast whoever just because they happened to be a popular actor that year.
Edit:
Also, I think the reason why American dubs for anime is so bad is because a lot of the time, those VAs are monolinguals.

OMG I love Hayamin too! 😭
@@dogeatdog3579 I get what you mean! It's an interesting dichotomy to look at... I wonder, if we treated american VAs more similarly to seiyuu would that be better or worse 🤔but there is still a distinct difference between the whole "WATCH THIS MOVIE/SHOW IT HAS [person] IN IT" marketing versus YOU looking at a cast and going "Oh Shit, Kana Hanazawa. must watch"

But that is just another sign of how underapreciated animation is, because i am sure they would never hire the celebrity of the moment to voice the main the role of an Scorsese movie.

a good indicator of how underappreciated the profession is is how some people consider impersonating a character the exact thing same as voice acting them. voice acting is a complex process that is more than doing a wacky voice, or sounding like someone else, there's the direction, expression, technique, etc. when consumers start to realize the work it takes and at least some of the nuance the business has, that's when they'll probably have higher standards other than just "omg, my most fav singer evarrr is in this Disney movie, that's like, totes neat"

Depends on if you're talking subs or dubs. Dubs are pretty good these days, but they all have practically the same cast so they can feel a bit samey. But it's a lot more prestigious in Japan to be a voice actor in the first place, so there's a bigger range of really talented actors there.

loved this video, i could have watched 2 hours of it! it’s helped me fully realize the problem of celebrities taking over voiceover roles. i’ve always had a kind of surface level opinion like “yeah, it really sucks, of course voice actors deserve better,” but now i just feel terrible. especially with that space jam: a new legacy example.
i aspire to be a voice actor for animated movies and shows, and it sucks knowing that major characters will most likely be taken by celebrities while VAs, who have dedicated an entire CAREER to the art, are “additional voices.” i loved how you phrased the sentence that you’re not “anti-celebrities-voice-acting,” but “pro-voice-actor,” because i feel the same way! in some cases, i’ve been introduced to some of my current favorite famous actors due to their VO role in an animated film, such as ralph fiennes as rameses in the prince of egypt. on the other hand, i just want voice actors to get the same treatment. i really hope something will change someday.
i believe a way for major companies to market VAs is do so on the same level as their celebrity counterparts, so in the future when those VAs are on other projects, the general public can say “oh that’s _____, they voiced _______!” that way, voice actors get the credit they deserve AND have a breakout role, and companies can rake in cash from those people who came in to see that VA in their project. cause ya know, companies are greedy lol.
well said! i really appreciate your input and comment. it's good to know that there are other people out there noticing the same things.
Did not expect to see you here! Love your vids man
@@seisosimp im actually curious on what dark undertones of Japanese Voice Acting is like now that you mention it
Voice actors are sooo talented, in gaming i feel like there’s a bit of respect for them for sure
Lol when she said "name a voice actor", I just went
"Matt Mercer, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, Marisha Ray, Ashley Johnson, Taliesin Jaffe, Sam Reigel, Liam O'brien."
Critical Role has given me a gift, of knowing any voice actors
Legit the only one I could name was Mercer, and I only knew that he was a VA because of the overlap with Overwatch
Yeah anybody who plays video games or watches anime has a long list available here. Also Futurama.
And I have no idea who Tom Kenny is.
@@nickmorgan19457 he’s the voice of SpongeBob
Surprised Nolan North and Troy Baker aren't on here. They're everywhere
Film was a cash-grab anyways.
I think that case was another factor that probably affected TMNT (2007) as well
I like the way Pixar does celebrity voices. They pick celebrities that would fit the character. Ellen as Dory is unforgettable.
Dory prob forgot :)
Because Ellen is running short on brain cells, haha?
I see you everywhere why
Wait the Ellen that made a toxic work environment?
@@fizzled4life I think they meant the Ellen degenerate, yeah.
This video is much more important right now.
Mark Hamill is a good example of celebrity VA done right.
When he voices the roles of say Skips (Regular Show), the Joker or Ozai (Avatar the Last Airbender), I could never tell as a kid who the VA was. Not just because of his vocal range, but because it truly felt like he was voicing a different character each time with their own motivations, struggles and ideals.
too bad he is dead his last role was xehanort in kh3.
Mark did voice acting for cartoons before Star Wars so it wasn’t like he went into it afterwards to do something “easy” like a lot of other people.
Billy west, John DiMaggio, Dan Castleineta, and Maurice Lamarche all came to my head. I may be in the small majority. But I love watching voice actors and behind the scenes clips
are you talking about dan castellaneta?
I think there have been a few celebrities who have done really well in voice acting. Like Robin Williams, Christian Bale etc. As long as they actually put heart and soul into it, I think it sounds great and I like it.
But putting them in just because they are famous is a bad idea because most of the time they just can’t voice act.
Yeah I think it was unfair that Billy Crystal got mentioned negatively in this video. He was great as Timone and Calcifer.
@@Rumade You're thinking of Nathan Lane. Billy Crystal was Mike in Monsters Inc.
@@SuperWally93 omg you're right 😶 Mike is a great piece of voice acting too though.
Christian Bale is a character actor so him giving a bad performance would have been terrible to him.

Saw this after the Chris Pratt Mario Controversy, and Completely agree with this video.
I don't
Remember Vincent Price as Ratigan in Basil, the Great Mouse Detective?
He was PERFECT
You could hear his essence
He was Ratigan
He was perfectly cast
I think he even said at one point that Ratigan was his favorite performance. He was absolutely amazing in that movie.
It helps that Vincent Price was one of those actors who never gave less than 100%, no matter what he was working on.
"What did you call me?!"
"You're a slimy, contemptible, sewer rat!"
Seriously. I recently watched that and he absolutely stole te show. One of the best Disney villain performances ever
I met Billy at Com a con.

@@dogeatdog3579 I work in the spanish voice acting industry, so at least that aspect of voice acting (or rather, dubbing) will always rely on actual voice actors... specially in that movie.

Lol)
I’ve been a voice actor nerd for most of my life and I named about seven when you asked me to.
Then their is LillyPichu a RUclipsr and streamer who got into voice acting after becoming semi famous on RUclips, though it seems she actually knows how to voice act, her most recent role being Sayu in Genshin Impact where she did an amazing job, though the fact it shows her RUclips channel in the credits makes it seem like they might have chosen her for being famous, though thank god it actually worked out
@@dinoshotgun I mean it's not necessarily bad some are very talented like proZD

Gotta get back
Fun Fact: he was the guy who was in the backseat with Sam and John in Pulp Fiction.
He's also great onscreen. I've surprised quite a few people who know him that they've manage to not notice him in Pulp Fiction.
He was also one of the announcers on Real Steel. I was surprised to see him in a live action role in a movie.
His role as Static Shock will always have my respect!
Who else here after the mario movie cast was released
What I liked about Atlantis: The Lost Empire is that they used Kree Summer to voice the leading female, and she did a fantastic job
Steve Blum is an absolute LEGEND
