- In this video, I tackle the dreaded crap Holden leather, show you how to repair the collapsed foam insert, and have an upholsterer replace a leather panel and re-stitch a seam.
Excellent video mate, definitely came in handy when doing my own SS seats. Cheers!
@KRALOS that's great to hear and thanks for the positive feedback! Cheers, Andy
Thank you, i am about to change the covers on my ve seats, i have found brand new factory covers for both the front seats and the rear($1000), the foam on my seats in near perfect condition so i don't need to fix that, but i saw a really good tip from a upholstery guy that is where the metal "handles" (for lack of a better word) fit into the foam base spray glue into there and glue in some leather or other strong cloth this will stop the handles from rubbing on the foam and will reinforce the foam.
A great tip. Glad you got something out of the video and thanks for commenting. If you haven't already, please consider subscribing, it helps the channel greatly. Cheers, Andy
Great video
Glad it helped cobber.
Mate what awesome video 2 front seats on WK Caprice need doing. Great job & thankyou so much
Thanks Tony. Glad my video helped. Good luck with the WK, nice car! V8?
@@grayzbildz Yes mate 5.7, 245KW its my pride & joy & your video's will help me alot, Cheers mate
Kinda wish I didn’t have the bolsters on the seat but about to get stuck into my VU today and rebuild a set out of two and convert to Tonner seat bases in the process. Awesome vid mate
Thanks Ryan. Glad it helped. All the best with your rebuild! Cheers, Andy
Excellent work, thanks for the video
Thanks mate. Glad it helped. Cheers, Andy
Hey mate definitely not a fan of the work your upholsterer did, but like you said 90% of people wouldn’t notice it. I know I’m in the other 10% ha. and yeah looks better then before
It was cheap. This is a cheap car, not a show car or concourse. Cheers
Another great video.
Thanks again! Glad you enjoyed it.
Very nice repair, Andy! What tool are you using on the foam, after the carving knife? A cheese grater?
👍 Tony B
Yes mate just an ordinary kitchen grater. I meant to say that in the video. Glad you enjoyed it. FriBaT coming tomorrow arvo. Cheers Andy.
nice one.. I was wondering what happened with this. I wish I had had a video like this to watch when doing mine, especially with the head rest post things. It took me ages to figure out how to get them out.
Yeah took me longer to get it done than I'd hoped. Thanks again for being part of project Brewtus rebuild. Cheers, Andy.
Looking good so far. I need to do the same on my 370Z, the driver seat foam has collapsed so you just sit on the metal bolster bar, so uncomfy.
Give it a go. It's not the easiest job, but could save you heaps if you are successful. Cheers and thanks for watching and commenting. Andy G
@@grayzbildz I did it last week, was a lot easier than I would have thought. I did what you did and got a dense block that the foam place recommended to me and a thinner sheet to smooth off the finish.
Came up really good. Added some extra padding as well.
One thing I am not one hundred percent happy about is due to my added padding I had to use cable ties in spots where the cover was just too tight to use hog rings, I would have been stressing the leather way too much if I stretched it back and used rings instead of cable ties.
A lot more comfortable now. Still not as great as I'd like but I think I just need to lose weight! The seats are just a bit too narrow for me.
Thanks for the inspirational video.
Thats awesome Jake. Glad you gave it a go. I'm happy I inspired you to have a go. Cheers, Andy
Very cool work, you are so skilled. Where was the Milwaukie ratchet for dis-assembly?
I still can't believe you wrote crap and Holden so close in the title....tsk tsk
Well, they skimped on leather. We both know from first hand its rubbish.
Sad but true mate
Great video. Do you think I’d be able to get away with not removing the cover entirely to fix a bit of sag on the bolster? I’ve got heated seats lol amd the leather is fine otherwise
I would suggest that it would only be feasible to repair by removing the leather. It's not that hard just take your time. Good luck. Cheers, Andy
This is why I always say go new
Agreed, if they're available. Is this case, the seat foam and leather is no longer in production. Thanks for watching and commenting
This company is 5 star rated and does all Holden leather interior remakes apparently use to design for Ford and Holden , you see his remakes on eBay at very affordable prices
If your
Looking in the future
I'll have to check them out. Brewtus was a farm ute that I wanted to build on a limited budget. He's gone to his new owner now. Cheers
what glue did you use?
can you make a video tutorial on how to remove a car seat for vy-vz
I could, if I had one. Sorry sold the VZ. Seat removal is very simple though, 4 bolts and two plugs. Just make sure you don't turn on ignition with either seat removed otherwise you will set a SRS code that has to be reset by holden or an SRS reset software tool. Cheers
have you got a link to that leather restorer ?
I can't find the original product I bought from the UK, but any of these type products will work. amzn.to/3iLuViL
Hope that helps. Cheers and thanks for watching!
What glue spray is that?
If you're in Australia, it is available at Clarke Rubber. Otherwise any spray adhesive designed for auto and heat will work. Talk to your local auto upholsterer. Thanks for watching and commenting and please subscribe if you haven't already done so. Cheers, Andy.
I'd give that electric knife a good wash before you slice up your next roast! :-)
Dedicated upholstery knife now.
