Upholstery shop down the road said to drop the car off and they’ll do it one day for $325 … after watching this I decided I’m going to happily pay that
Nice to see a color other than black on the headliner and pillars as we are stuck with here in the states with the G8... I contemplated switching my headliner and pillars to a lighter color as this video displays. Thank you

You don’t refoam the headliner before the fabric again ? I gotta redo my g8 gt and I have the headliner out and have been contemplating using foam backed material or just fabric without foam
IMO If you are going to bother doing this job you're better off using a non-foam backed fabric of your choice from somewhere like spotlight where it will most likely be cheaper to buy and then you can also do something more 'custom' (like a pattern, nice polar fleece or something shaggy, car logo, etc) only saying this because the foam will most likely fail again in the future but if you glue decent fabric directly to the headliner it wont be coming off again any time soon and I think it is more of a permanent solution. Great video BTW, very helpful!
@@AussieCharm thanks for your comment, I believe they make the foam better these days, but your correct the foam will most likey start giving issues in about 12-20years. Sticking non foam backed fabric directly to the board can be done, as long as the board as no imperfections that show through, or another issue could be the glue absorbs through the fabric. An option could be using headliner felt, kind of like a carpet feel to it, but it has no stretch usually.
@@ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs You might be right although I've had headliners fail after 25yrs in a corolla parked in the sun and now a VE from 2009 which was under a car port, I don't think it should have failed so quickly so my (very limited) experience says they are actually getting worse (or maybe holden were just cheap arses :P), anyways with the car manufactures constantly cutting costs and planned obsolescence I don't think they care if it fails a few years after factory warranty so use cheap crap and funny you mention glue soaking through because I actually had that happen in one small spot when I redid my old car with the proper foam backed material (using kwik grip contact adhesive from a tin), I know it was user error but haven't had the same problem when using 'plush' polar fleece which actually also helps hide imperfections. I think for a novice it is easier because I found that foam tends to insta-stick to contact adhesive so if you get it wrong it will rip instead of coming up/stretching and also it compresses so unless a pro like you does it I think fingerprints from pushing down are hard to avoid, I personally wouldn't use thin material but other people have simply glued the original material back on after removing the foam with decent success so I do know it's possible.
And we don't sell the glue, but suggest to use one of these glues Permatex Headliner Adhesive - ebay.us/apC9ZH 3M high tac 76 Headliner Glue - ebay.us/eAGTji We buy our glue in bulk, at 20lt volume each time, which costs approx around $450. Brand is called TensorGrip T51 or T65
Great video very helpful 2 questions do you prep wash the surface before you apply adhesive? And fixing wiring loom too back of headliner is it a special sort of glue or can I just use silicone? Thanks
We don't wash the headliner down with any soaps etc. Just straw brush and gently maybe with orbital sander. Then soft brush to get it clean and free of loose dust. The wire harness if laid out correctly usually doesn't require to be stuck down, but it appears that the factory use silicone so I'd assume thats fine.

So what we do instead is gently peel off wiring from headliner board. But if your searching for the connector it should be at the bottom of the drivers side pillar.

I'd prefer black over lighter colours, they collect stains easier

Is it the same process to do a Calais one with sunroof
Yep, very much the same process.
thankyou
I think it’s bs that the foam backing only lasts 10 years. Even all the rubber window seals have gone crumbly. 🙄
