Dude, more MUSE please. They are one of my top bands and Chris is one of my bass influences through the years. Their early stuff definitely had some great basslines more so than some recent releases.
@@cry1pticzer773 Morgan has played bass live with Muse. I assert Morgan is the better bassist on the basis that I love his work with Senseless Things and that I believe Muse are poo poo.
Yep, most Muse songs are written on piano! Also, as per their albums: Showbiz: alt rock, post-grunge Origin of Symmetry: space rock, electronic rock, hard rock, prog rock Absolution: alt rock, hard rock, prog rock Black Holes and Revelations: electronic rock, prog rock, space rock, post-britpop The Resistance: electronic rock, prog rock, symphonic rock The 2nd Law: electronic, dubstep, symphonic rock, funk... literally anything Drones: alt rock, hard rock Simulation Theory: synthwave, electronic rock, pop rock Will of the People: all of the above (it was mostly a best-of) + some metal
I love how he got it directly. A lot of the bassline and guitarsolos are written by Bellamy on piano first. In Your World is a perfect example where they even showcase it in the start of the song.
Cool reaction! I dont know if someone answered it already but Ill go! So you were right on! It is known that most of Muse riffs are written by Matt although Dom and Chris are credited as well since Absolution or somewhere around (Yes Hysteria was written by Matt check out demo versions of the song in 2002!). And this leads to the fact that Matt is also known to compose on the piano first probably due to the piano being his first instrument! Even though Muse always evolve in genres throughout the time, EVERY albums have killer basslines.
Yeah, you really need to listen to the whole album. Origin of Symmetry and Absolution are by far their best records, they absolutely blow The Resistance out of the water.
Great reaction!! This song is something special live! Studio version has always been a favourite from day 1! Chris (IMHO) doesn't get the attention he deserves as far as bass prowess! Hysteria is, and will forever be, a top favourite of mine - that bassline is epic & awesome! Knights is always a treat. More Muse please!! Cheers.
Hell yeah man! Glad to see you get some Muse on the channel. Pretty sure this was the particular live performance I recommended awhile back. And you would be correct, those fills were not on the album lol. As some of the others commented, Hyper Music would be another great song to check out off of Origin of Symmetry. For some newer(ish) stuff, I'd consider checking out The Handler and Reapers from the Drones album. Those two songs have really good live versions (loud bass again!) you can find on the Drones World Tour video.
I saw Muse as a support band to 3 Colours Red, just after Showbiz had come out. Matt was shy and looked at his shoes at that time. Chris was the personality of the band. I suspect Matt wrote most of the 1st & 2nd album, and shaped the flourishes beyond the foundation groove for Muse bass lines in the early days.
As someone who writes most of his music in his own head (but imagining a piano mostly because that’s what I learned first and best), it’s super-interesting to hear your ideas about how this affects the note choices.
Gives you more perspective how genius their music is. Some Muse fans just like the sound of the music and that's great, but some us not only like the sound but appreciate how Muse writes music like authors write books but in the most uniquely interesting ways.
If you've only listened to those 3 albums then you have to listen to Origin of Symmetry, to me that's their best album, Absolution is up there with it but Origin of Symmetry just hits me more
Bliss was the song that got me into them, cool video too. Origins and absolution were awesome albums, black holes was a decent album too but I gave up on them after that. I saw them at Wembley stadium around 2007, whilst it was a great concert I was fuming they never sang bliss!
i think their song Dark Shines from Origin of Symmetry has one of their best bass line, but any song from them that you don't know might be a good pick!
Hey I think you should do "Tracy" by Mogwai. Bass drives the whole song everything else plays off the bass line and it's gorgeous! On second thought if you're gonna do Mogwai you should prob start with "Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home"
I was a first 3 albums guy..then life happened, and my attention moved elsewhere. When they headlined Glastonbury and opened their set with Hysteria was pretty sick tho.
Great video! Love the change of genre. I really recommend reacting to Smells Like Content by The Books (experimental/alternative band), a beautiful and entirely song played by 2 basses and a synth.
maybe it did was written on piano or synth and then seperated and moved to guitar and bass because many of their songs are, I know Map of the Problematique was one of those, read that from wikipedia
I think unnatural selection is also written on piano and then seperated into guitar, bass and string, that song has no piano in it but just sounds so "piano"
I love how daring The Origin of Symmetry was. They made the pop attempt with Showbiz, but didn’t even push Origin in America because it was too weird (good) for us. From Absolution forward they weren't this raw, and I miss that. Origin is its own animal.
Muse in the early 2000's was an incredible band. Origin of Symmetry is seriously one of the best records of all time. With Dead Star they were kinda going in a "metal" direction as well, and it would have been fantastic, but they chose other paths ($$$) and I lost interest. But until Absolution they were basically perfect. Citizen Erased is a masterpiece of a song... and they have tons of B-sides that are actually very good tunes too.
Muse is one of those bands I think I would haven gotten into had I not gone down the dirty dusty road of punk rock in my teens. Great analysis, but I just can't quite get into them.
It is very likely that this bassline was indeed written on a piano/keyboard. Not sure if it's the case nowadays but most things Matt wrote back then started off on piano.
I think the early albums allowed them to kind of experiment more than the later pop stuff. You should absolutely check out more from Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz.
Muse peaked so soon with Origin of Symmetry. Wish they stayed on that course for a couple more albums. But after that they became a lot more polished and lost that ‘insanity’ that they had. Absolution was still amazing btw but just very different production.
ruclips.net/video/wfrzTDMDeW4/видео.htmlsi=PPmqbIGgAOvqBDSO great little Aussie rock band called COG, always put in an amazing show… the bassist Luke is very underrated, him & the singer are brothers 💪
I suggested that for 100k subscribers, you do sex pistols god save the queen. There bassist sid vicious considered worst bassist all time. He is in rock n roll hall of fame. Listen to music video (he is in video but not actual recording to see how it should sound). Then do sex pistols live winterland version to hear him live to compare. It's an "its so terrible it good" kinda thing. Actually, it's just terrible. But it'll be interesting. And i would love to you play the bad way. I bet you would struggle to play that poorly. Everything you know would work against you playing that poorly..
Hyper music! Hyper music is the one you want! The bass line in hyper music is frickin magnificent!!
And Jimmy Kane and Futurism
yeeeesssss
Finally someone who appreciates hyper music. so under rated, probably muse’s best baseline
First MUSE bass line I learned, just so P U M P I N G

Is he even the best bassist in muse? Morgan Nicholls is genius on bass.
@@gartgreenside3657 no he is the best in what he does for the band. Morgan filled in for Chris at a festival since Chris broke his wrist at that time.

'Microcuts' from 'Origin...' is such an awesome bassline

I actually thought OOS and The Resistance were their best.
They've much worse albums than The Resistance
yayy! we cheering up Chris's bass skills recognition.

This is hands down my favorite song of Muse. I really have to practice this song......
That fill you pointed out just before the twelve minute mark almost mimics/riffs off the arpeggio in a way...cool stuff.

React to Citizen Erased next!
I think Darkshines has a more interesting bass part.

I would suggest to watch their full Hullabaloo live concert from Paris.

Maybe the best Muse song ever
It is the best muse song ever. Especially live! Absolutely love Bliss.

Just a little suggestion, try to do a bass cover at the end after reacting. It's always a good addition for a content like this.
We all had that 3-album phase, those were solid bangers.
Oh yeah!!
Check out “Am I Really Going To Die” by White Lies. It’s a great song and the bass rules in it.
I guess in the chorus they don't go to e minor, they go to c first inversion.
