I have to thank you Beth for your reaction as I was at time a kinda fan of Muse that even was popular wasn't really ever the main stream music but I just loved them and they really didn't sound like any other and Matt Bellamys voice isn't very typical either. I don't know about the classical definitions to male bass, baritone or tenor, but what I can hear in this song is that Matt can sustain those highest notes with ease. As I couldn't ever sang any high notes, I dropped my voice half octave lower than others or sometimes a whole octave lower to ber able to sing in a sense those higher notes. I met once an professional opera singer, female, and as we spoked about music and singing, she told me, that my range is more like bass/baritone. But I have to admit that everytime some one can sing almost impossible high notes, my 'hair' is electriced. To everyone who has played piano or keyboards, you know how high notes some people can hit and top that some singers have also very wide range. From male pop singers Morten Harket at the time had quite wide range and I was amazed. I had to try it with piano and see what notes he really sang.. oh boi...

What you said about having to save your voice is so true. I've seen so many people over the past few years saying that Matt Bellamy's voice isn't as good as it used to be and that there are certain songs that he can't sing anymore. All that because he doesn't often do those hard parts live, when in reality, sure he might not have the same power as he did 15 or 20 years ago, but he can still sing the hard parts like the end of Madness for example, he's just chosen to preserve his voice a bit more since when they're touring, they're doing a show every 2 or 3 nights for several months and if you're not careful enough, you could properly damage your voice

    • @ThinWhiteAxe

This! I'm grateful he's preserving his voice because I want him to be around and singing for many years to come ❤

I went to see them on stadium tour this summer and I was very afraid of that, part of my love for Muse has always been Matt's vocals live and I was so worried that he would not fully sing the difficult parts. Boy was I wrong, he just sang his heart out like an absolute god for almost 2 hours of the most spectacular show I've ever seen. I honestly have never seen a band so inch perfect live, they just make it look so easy

    • @nerea4327

This is so true. Many people loved his 1999-2005 vocals (so do I!), but you could tell he was not vocally trained, especially when he screamed. I think he hurt his vocal cords during that time. He got a vocal coach in 2012 (which many people say was his vocal peak). He doesn't go that high anymore, but I saw Muse live last year and his technique has improved a lot.

Happy to see Muse again, I requested the other 2 songs quite a few years ago now. Map of the Problematique in my opinion feels way more alive more organic on the live version than the studio.

I have heard that his vocal cords are much tighter than most folks, so that can explain how, at least when he was younger, was able to just fucking belt that falsetto head shiiiiit
Also - Ive read that Matt uses these certain mics that are ultra sensitive where he can lean back as much as he wants - its totally part of Matts style! That lean back on intense falsetto or screams…brilliant

    • @ThinWhiteAxe
      @ThinWhiteAxe 8 месяцев назад +2

yeah, and he also pulls away on more intense notes so as to balance the volume

This is my favorite song of all times and I've studied it so much that every time I listen to it, it makes me cry.
I'll tell you something, you needed to listen the album version and then the live version in one go because they are not the same✨ and if you pause everything to explain all these bits about the band, Matt's voice and the storytelling in the lyrics, it's easier to get lost.

This concert was riveting start to finish. Taped over two days at Wembley Stadium, the HAARP double set was the live concert dvd and cd. I did get to see them live a few years later during the Resistance tour, but it didn’t have this level of energy, or big stadium sound. So I rewatch this concert at least once a year.

    Lyrics
Fear, and panic in the air
    I want to be free
    From desolation and despair
And I feel like everything I saw
    Is being swept away
When I refuse to let you go
    I can't get it right
    Get it right
    Since I met you
    Loneliness be over
When will this loneliness be over
Life will flash before my eyes
    So scattered almost
I want to touch the other side
And no one thinks they are to blame
    Why can't we see
That when we bleed we bleed the same
    I can't get it right
    Get it right
    Since I met you
    Loneliness be over
When will this loneliness be over
    Loneliness be over
When will this loneliness be over

I know Muse is very popular in the UK and usa...they really are good. Two things pop out...1) Matt Bellamy sounds an awful lot like Gavin Creel...one of our Broadway best; 2) They could be sons of one of my all-time favorites..The Moody Blues. They may be able to create a classic like The Voice someday. They have that ethereal, haunting edge to them.

    G'day Beth,
My take on what you were saying about people complaing that bands/singers not recreating the recording is...
if you wanted to listen to the recording why did you pay to go see them live when you could have just listened to the recording or watched the Music Video 🤷‍♂???
For me going to a concert is about taking it to another level, I love the unpredictability of when a band interacts with the audience during songs, plays covers of the songs they love & just goes off playing having fun because it is SO REAL EMOTIONALY, rather than just acting like they are locked away in the studio focused only on themselves trying to make the songs a perfect recreation of the Album/Single.
