My god, please do more Muse! They are by my favorite band and the reason I started to learn guitar, piano, bass, recording, etc..just music in general.
I believe Matt is brilliant, but the greatest British act over the last thirty years must go to Right said Fred or maybe Timmy Mallet. Who doesn't love "Too sexy" or "Itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bakini"?
@@s4mcote You could definately argue that Radiohead is better than Muse, but Thom Yorke doesn't write all their music. Matt does. I think Chris has contributed a few really good basslines, but everything else is Matt. As an overall musician, Matt is miles ahead of Thom. Matt Bellamy may in fact be the most skilled musician we have ever seen. He's exceptionally good with 2 major instruments and an elite singer. His multitasking is also top notch. He can sing very freely on both instruments. Prince is the only one I can think of who is in the same category as Matt.
@@pite9 as a creative mind, Thom is superior, as a technical musician, Matt is superior. I prefer Thom because i think his music is better than Matt's, but Matt is amazing as well. Love both.
I had known about them for a while but I caught a livestream of a concert in 2017 or so and my mind was blown. That’s when a minor obsession began. I was in my late 30s. It’s never too late ❤️
Matt helped me gain the courage to actually learn to sing. Singing along with him instead of the often out-of-tune and rough punk rock I’m used to really pushed me.
This video made me realize I can actually sing more like Matt than I can a lot of other singers. Now granted, I'm roughly 1/100th as good as him. But I think he'd make a good model for me. I wasn't sure how he was doing what he was doing until I listened to you break it down. So thanks for that.
On another note, I never realized how cool those backing vocals in the "our hopes and revelations" part are. And I've listened to this song maybe 100 times.
I love the pure coincidences of when you make a break down video on songs I'm already self studying with. Thanks for this, understanding the mechanics of the different sounds helps SO MUCH!
This makes me think of another UK singer who is immensely unique - Jon Higgs of the band Everything Everything - really bright falsetto with very fast lyrical phrases constantly jumping around the octaves - check out No Reptiles by them - it’s incredibly unique and under appreciated
Yes finally, I've been waiting for this for ages. Great video as always Chris. Your videos and courses continue to help my vocal journey. Thanks again Chris
Another great video. I've always loved this song and this vocal and for some reason it really works for my voice in the key it's written. Thanks for opening it up for us, Chris.
Very interesting stuff!! the standalone vocals really show the complexity of both the singing and how the production enhances it... When it comes to Matt Bellamy, I think there are much more examples that are worth studying 🤞🤞
I knew nothing at all about this guy, but will say he has fascinating technique. May have to check this song and the band out now. Also didn't know you could overdrive vocals but it's a neat sound to it!
These are such great videos! I learn so much with each one. Thank you! I would definitely be interested in seeing an isolated vocal analysis of Devin Townsend as I imagine there would be a lot to talk about with his technique (clean to compressed to fry) and production (LOTS of layering and production). Thanks again!
I'm still waiting for Tim McIlrath. He's always been one of my fav's, seen Rise Against 3 or 4 times, always loved them and Tim's vocals, but he has SO much power behind every word, it seems impossible to carry that energy through an entire song, love to see a break down of his approach. Love your videos as always my man.
This is great stuff! I would love to hear isolated vocals (or maybe a vocal analysis) of Adam Duritz from the Counting Crows. I think he has some amazing stuff to share in vulnerablility and improvisation, thanks Chris :D
Chris, I have a recommendation of a great singer with great technique that I'd love to see you analyse! It's Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys... As for a specific songs, I'd recommend two to have look on! Sweet Dreams, TN - The Last Shadow Puppets (his side project) Batphone - Arctic Monkeys
Hi there! I really enjoyed the video and it´s very usefull to me due to the presentation i´m going to have on December. One of two songs i will sing is Starlight. Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english XD. Cheers from Argentina.
Just gonna keep commenting saying thank you! Vocal production has always been something I struggled with, and I learn a LOT from these videos Just gonna throw a name into the hat, but I’d love to see you analyze something by Architects one of these days :) he has a scream/yell that I haven’t really heard from any other bands
Love this dude, Matt's one of my all time favouritete vocalists I aimed to model my sound off, one of my other favourites is Jeff Buckley, even though they're similar you can hear he's had a direct influence on Matt however they have a fairly different approach. I would be stoked if you could do a vid on Jeff's technique
The screamers get the high views... but I really like doing vocalists like Matt, Thom Yorke, Bono, Chris Cornell, lots more! They just don't get the high view count for some reason... but I'd love to do more of them!
This was awesome thank you. One of my favourite vocalists singing songs by another of my favourite vocalists. 😀 After having zero clue as to what production techniques are being used on vocals I'm almost able to guess which effects are on, I can't hear how much or the eq filters yet but I'm so happy I've been ear training and learning stuff without realising. 🙂
Greetings from Peru! great content, Matt is an unique singer for sure, also you should do Connor Mason who has an amazing technique and Jeff Buckley if you havent already, exitos!
Sick video mate - Would be cool for you to do analyse of Muhammed from Necrophagist, sorry for the request I bet they do your head in lol, but yeah he’s savage... They have a live video for ‘The Stillborn One’ if you fancy checking, I know you like the live videos. Anyways cheers for the vids, Jack
I highly recommend you check out Ed Kowalczyk from the band Live, specifically their song Selling the Drama (or anything from Throwing Copper). He's highly unique and definitely worth a look
Lol got hooked on MUSE didn't you? This band has so many great songs, would love to see you do a video on the isolated vocals of Plug in Baby. He starts at 0:35 and here is the link ruclips.net/video/11DlEvyupHg/видео.html
Hello Chris :), can you help me out or give me a tutorial on software / plugins i could use to record vocals? I work and start on Ableton and I use guitar rig5 for the vocal effects but I would like to know if there are plugins / vst not too expensive that I can use? thank you for what you are doing and thank you in advance Jean-Charles, a french fan :)
Hey Chris, great video once again! Awesome that you point out stuff from voice placement to phrasing to studio production - namely, the whole deal! Very helpful and ear-opening! I might have suggested this already, but how about you do a similar video on Bruce Dickinson's isolated vocal track on "Wasted Years"? ruclips.net/video/V2wq1I-G66U/видео.html It would be very interesting to hear your take on the vocal technique (obviously!) BUT also on the production as this was recorded back in 1986, and how you would approach that sort of a 80s' heavy metal vocal production, which is not over the top like in some other 80s' songs.
Would you be interested in making a video that plays a lot of different people all making the same middle C or E or something, one after another separately, so we can focus on hearing the timbre and vocal tone over the intended sound. It would help a lot in recognizing some of those finer qualities in learning to make better sounds that would be illustrated in such an example, basically so we can learn to tune our voice~
My god, please do more Muse! They are by my favorite band and the reason I started to learn guitar, piano, bass, recording, etc..just music in general.
Muse is great.
Matt Bellamy is the greatest musician the UK has produced in the past 30/40 years
Thom Yorke 😌

This is one of the best vocal analysis I've ever seen on youtube. Much more comprehensive than the usual "oh that's great" analyses.
You can sound just like him. Great work!
Matt helped me gain the courage to actually learn to sing. Singing along with him instead of the often out-of-tune and rough punk rock I’m used to really pushed me.
I play guitar and am really impressed by Matt's vocal range and technique. My goal is to at least by on pitch for a few notes.

I was just about to request a Muse analysis, and then saw this video appear like magic - thank you so much! These analyses are golden.
Great video! Great suggestion! Covering all grounds in not only vocal placement, but in production too.
