Great to see some more Muse! They were the band that inspired me to pick up my first bass. I know on the last video you mentioned being familiar with their Absolution-Blackholes-Resistance era stuff. I could recommend so many songs from them but I think it would be cool to check out Hyper Music or New Born from Origins of Symmetry for another older song and Reapers or The Handler from Drones for some newer(ish) stuff.
Watching clips of Chris play this live I can confirm he is definitely playing a 5 string tuned to standard however there are some interesting points to his playing on this song that seem to get overlooked. In the verses he’s playing the same line but an octave higher with some finger tapping and in the final chorus he plays some slap notes between the normal lines.
A Muse song with a similar funky style off of 2nd Law is Panic Station, which has an excellent bass line you'd definitely enjoy if you haven't already heard it.
You either get Muse and what they do sonically from Album to album or you don’t. They don’t have a bad Album really if you know them. May not be the sound you like but they know their craft well
Agree except Simulation Theory. It was well crafted but it was to clean for me. On every other Muse album i discovered more and more details the more i listened to it. But not on Simulations Theory. Heard it once, discovered almost no details later. But still a good Album to listen to from time to time.
Can finally say first! I absolutely love your content man. Some of the concepts you talk about change the way I look at writing bass parts. I wish I had your perfect pitch and knowledge of theory to make it even easier to write!
Another banger video. But dude, if you’re in the holiday spirit, now’s the PERFECT time to check out Alkaline Trio. Dan Andriano’s a big personal influence, finds a place in the power trio in a very similar way to Mike Dirnt in Green Day. Recommended songs: Jaked On Green Beers, Armageddon, Hell Yes, Mr. Chainsaw, Continental, Clavicle, ‘97 (you’ll see Radio as a top song, and it’s great, but not best example for your purposes).
It's not poppy. Its years of production experience. It's 100% self produced and was a project designed to be fun. They tried to hit a bunch of different styles. We are f n' f'd is a good example.
Its like theres just too much cheese for how serious its presented. Devon townsend or justin Hawkins could do something similar but just present it better
They aren’t for everyone in their stylistic and sonic variations they do from Album to album but to me that’s what makes them great and sets them apart from their peers so to speak. They push their own boundaries in their songwriting and for me and my music tastes they hit the nail on the head. If you prefer one sound they had on one album all the way through then you are mostly out of luck. Can’t please everyone but Muse is Muse
You obviously don’t keep up with them to make this comment on what they do. Nor do you get Muse and what they do from album to album and this just shows it.
Some of the most metal songs they’ve ever made were on this album.

Muse was such an instrumental influence when i started to first play bass. Hope to see more of them on this chanel

Oh wow, that's interesting and wouldn't have thought it to be played that way. I'll have to look it up!
You should check out the band Royal Blood, a bassist/drummer 2-piece.

Thanks for the suggestion! I definitely wouldn't have, only have heard their music through "The Resistance" really.
@@LowEndUniversity well its "just" Chris doing slap bass in a Prince and Stevie Wonder inspired song
@@danielmannandersen2332which is awesome

"They've really gotten poppy"
I mean they somewhat have been for awhile but listen to their song Kill or Be Killed off this same album
Not in a bad way at really but may not be your thing
@@AtomizedSound what?

Thanks Brandon, that made my day - really appreciate you!
You mention that he might have an alternate tuning, there were a couple (very few) shots in the video where you can see him playing.
Hey, I'd love to see Tigercub on this channel sometime. Their song, Beauty, has a very unique bassline
The end of the verse vocal line sounds like Make Me Smile by Chicago
God I love 80's horror synth sounds lol
You're not kidding. As soon as I heard the beginning I thought wtf?

Thanks man! Lucky for you, I did "Mr. Chainsaw" from them awhile back here: ruclips.net/video/rG9BFz8FA08/видео.html
@@LowEndUniversity awesome, can’t believe I missed that before!
You've got so far to go is the song. Bass while singing.
Fantastic video. You gonna play this at the Halloween party?
I'm hearing 80's pop more than modern pop, but agree with all your points.
Yeah! Mainly meant the production style, but as I said, it reminds me so much of Bad Mama Jama too. 😁
That was the point of the song and video accompanying the song
Please react to the New by Interpol!!! It's Carlos D's best bassline in my opinion!
Sad that you didn't hear the little slapping parts in the last third of the song
You should check out Kev Hopper from Stump
React to Hysteria if you like bass, nothing else needs to be said
Box of rain phill Lesh tribute please.
ABBA emotions
PLEASE REVIEW NORTHERN SKYLINE BY BANNER PILOT PLEASE!!! theres no better song in term of bass leading!!!!

Nah. It’s poppy. It’s okay though.
Yea….its certainly poppy
@gregc6072 everything produced is "poppy" to Americans.
It’s ok to have pop elements in it. They mix genres all the time and I get what they were going for and achieved
Anti-Flag The Press Corpse
Review Love Buzz by Nirvana.
Its like theres just too much cheese for how serious its presented. Devon townsend or justin Hawkins could do something similar but just present it better
Then you don’t get it. That’s the point of them having fun and it being cheesy and a tribute to 80’s and 90’s horror primarily
I’m sorry but I’ve got to dump on Muse. They haven’t been great for a little while in my personal opinion.
