Matt said that during the recording/creation of this album he had to persuade Dominic (drummer) to learn to use 2 bass drum pedals, to get that quick drum (machine gun) beat you find in heavier rock sound. So even after over 20 years in the music industry they are still learning and trying new stuff. Also Muse are one of those bands that actually sound better live than recorded. Matt's range is ridiculous and his high falsetto is insane.
Hi, I started listening to Muse in 2000. I think what baffles me most now that I'm older and wiser (? lol) is... well, listen. If their keyboardist is godly, then their *production* is just in a whole other _universe._ But we're not done yet... *HOW ARE THEY STILL BETTER LIVE THAN IN STUDIO?!?* They've improved production over the years and yet they improved all other aspects as well lol I also want to mention that they're quite intelligent humans, having read some biographies and behind the scenes stuff, yet that's not a thing they ever promote. Except through their music I guess? They're also just about my age so this whole journey is.... I don't know what to say
Muse has a lot of heavy tracks spread across their discography. Dead star, fury, new born, citizen erased, Stockholm syndrome, the handler among others. Their live shows are often superior to their studio stuff so you basically can't go wrong regardless of what you pick
@@BooToadstool In Your World is amazing 😍 And how about Ruled By Secrecy or Hate This and I’ll Love You? Ruled By Secrecy is my absolute favourite song
Muse are basically one of the best bands of the last 25years. But for some reason in America they were just never played on air and you have lived with no idea of what you were missing. But the good news is you now get to discover them and hear them for the first time. You lucky devils.
I had heard it was in part during their first 3 albums, they had like a falling out or something with the US branches of radio and music, and so they didn't get the radio push that they were getting everywhere else in the world.
Funfact: Matt Bellamy actually holds the Guinness World Record for most guitars smashed on a single tour. He smashed 140 guitars on Muse's 2004 tour. So glad I found your guys’ reaction! MUSE are my absolute favourite band so I really hope you gonna check out more of their stuff!
If your questions are "can they do this live" or "do they always use a filter" then watch some of their live and unfilteres performances. It's not like there aren't many on RUclips there are probably more than 100 to pick from. There is a very good reason why almost all of the awards they get nominated for and win are for "best live perfomers"
Thanks for the comment! Certainly wasn’t saying he uses any form of auto tune! It sounds like he has a hint of effects on his voice because of the tone and I love it! If he doesn’t, then even more amazing!
@@PardonMyReaction They do indeed use a lot of filters on matt's vocals. They add a lot of distortion and stuff, but most of it is for artistic purposes. Their live performances speak for themselves and they never lack the energy of their studio recordings and infact, most of the time muse live performances are better than studio.
I kind of liked muse in the past (just listened to some popular stuff) and then I went to their concert this year and heard most of their songs there live for the first time I’ve ever heard them, I thought like ‘yeah they’re kinda good’ but when I heard Kill or be Killed for the first time… man I’ve been their biggest fan ever since
for heavy and unbelievable vocals, you can't beat microcuts from wembley stadium. for a softer song that you can't not cry to, blackout from wembley. these two songs are the reasons im still alive.
I saw these guys play this live, and when I say it hit you like a brick wall, it hit you. When the intro riff was going and Dom started hitting the snare, it sounded like gun shots were going off. And then when the whole band came in, the sound jumped like 20 db and absolute hit me. If you can see them, you really need to. When you asked if he can sing and play live, he absolutely crushed both of them.
First ever death growl in a Muse song. These guys are all virtuosos on their respective instruments, the compositions are super solid and complex, and they slay live. The keyboard player just plays the parts that were prepared for him by the singer/guitar player. Muse is primarily a three piece band.
The drummer. Dominic Howard. Ok, I am a drummer and I discovered Muse around 2006. After I fell in love with them, I went back to check out all their stuff, from 1998/99 and onward. The thing is that, along with all the amazing stuff Matt and Chris do, Dominic completely blows me away, and for this reason: his time, his meter is impeccable! He is BOLTED to the floor and he will not be impinged upon! He is dead-bang on the nuggets every single time, on every song, on every performance. He’s just…so dialed in. The taste, the chops, the attack is always just what it needs to be. Muse is like Rush - three guys that the Universe decided to reveal to humanity. Three guys whose music is NEXT LEVEL. Sure, their first album showed some derivative influences - Radio Head, RATM, Nirvana/Smashing Pumpkins, U2, etc. - but by their second album, in 2001, they were well on their way to taking over the world. Watch their live DVD called “Hullabaloo”. It’s filmed from a performance in October, 2001, in Paris. The date is important because it was just after 9/11, and they opened the show with a brand new, unreleased song that they wrote while they were grounded in America, since all the flights had been canceled, due to terrorism. The live film is kind of their “Coming Out” party, a way to show the world that they are a force to be reckoned with! Check out Hullabaloo!!
"his meter is impeccable! He is BOLTED to the floor and he will not be impinged upon!" This. He does not have the best chops or technical ability in the world but this is why drummers rate Dom so highly. He is flawless and plays their tracks bang on every time. No overplaying anything and it allows his drums to be so clear and powerful in the mix. Made for big stadium gigs.
LOL the keyboardist is only there for the live shows. In the studio recording Matt does the keyboard as well as vocals and guitar. They put the keyboard guy in the back and don't show him much because he's technically not part of the band. In fact he's new, after COVID they replaced the guy who had been on tour with them for years. You said "muse-bumps" but honestly, seeing a concert is like a 2 hour long " muse -gasm". It can take some time to land back on your feet.
Saw them play this in 2022 and their stage show is outstanding! So fantastic and the fire was feickin awesome!🤘 They’ve been my favorite band since 2002.
i feel like the entirety of Muse is kinda only for Muse fans because it's extremely diverse. Muse have gone from alt rock to prog metal to funk to dubstep and more. Despite that, if you're more into the heavy stuff, there is a very good selection of songs for you to enjoy. In general Muse is basically if Jeff Buckley, Rage Against the Machine and Queen had a child together.

They also have a 3-part neo-"classical" piece, and the *ONLY* track across *ANY* artist (including themselves) which brings me uncontrollable goosebumps at one part *EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.*
Matt Bellamy holds the world record for most broken guitars on a live tour. Over 120 I think. That kinda shows how often they get heavy on live sets, definitely worth a watch.
I've seen Muse live. He sings just like the studio track while running around and playing the guitar. He gives up nothing. Best live show I've ever seen hands down. Easily. And Dom (drummer) and Chris (bassist) are also incredible and underappreciated. Matt has talked about them moving into this more heavy metal sound and having to sort of challenge themselves again. It's great.

Speaking of U2, they did a cover of "Streets with No Name" with the Edge on Glastobury in 2010 and that live cover made them write a U2 esque homage on their 2 subsequent albums, but yeah they do hard rock, soft classical music, dystopian music and soft poppy stuff
