As a current NIU Husky this game was incredible. I’ve heard that back in the 90s we once had the record for the longest losing streak at one point, and to have climbed up the mountain to beat Notre Dame and get ranked top 25, it’s just amazing
Isaac is famous. Last season, I struck up a conversation with a dude practicing punts at the local playfield. Turned out he was the punter for Sacramento State. I asked him if he ever watched Isaac Punts and the dude absolutely lit up like he discovered I too was a secret Swifty.
As a Notre Dame and Chicago Bears fan, this is just par for the course. Ive only known sadness most of my sports fandom life. Both teams are really great at raising expectations and then absolutely dropping the ball when the fans NEED some consistency. Feels bad man.
In my opinion they’re just as impressive. Mississippi State isn’t anywhere as good as Notre Dame, but they also got waxed at home. Notre Dame only lost by 2. Either way, the MAC is legit
I CONCUR !!!! I foresee at least 3 more . 1 involving two top 20s and 2 involving The Top 10 Vs The SBC and or MOUNTAIN WEST . The season is long and The travel longer .
It's a fun hot take, but it's hard to imagine a bigger gap than a good MAC team knocking off a team that's ranked #5. Now, since I decided to take a look, I can see that NIU has become ranked since their win against ND. But, NIU is only 2 games into their season, so I'm not sure that ranking will last. We're also approaching the end of most non-conference games, so the window of opportunity is closing since most conference upsets aren't nearly as big. Without looking, probably the best opportunities for a really big upset would be a game this week maybe, Vandy beating a Top 10 SEC team, or an FCS beating an SEC team in Week 11-ish.
Idk if this can be called an upset. ND losing in embarrassing fashion to inferior competition in September is well on its way to becoming a yearly tradition.
Personally, I think getting blown out by Air Force in 2007 was more embarrassing, but then again, everyone was too numb to be embarrassed by that point in the season.
I don't know man, Notre Dame's most embarrassing loss was to Alabama in the bcs national championship in 2012. They were super hyped up the whole season and then got stomped. At the half a reporter asked Brian Kelly ND's coach at the time "How do you think you can turn the game around after the half" Kelly's response was" We might have a chance if Alabama doesn't show up back on the field."
Not really. That Alabama team was loaded with NFL talent on both sides of the ball (25 players drafted I believe) and this was reflected by the point spread. IIRC the Tide were favored by 9 points. That Notre Dame team was good, but Alabama was just on another level.
@@SneedBass yeah but I think it’s a hell of a lot worse to lose to a 28 point underdog at home than it is to lose to a 9 point favorite on a neutral site that was in the midst of a generational run at the top
@isaacpunts, Speaking of a game coming down to special teams performance, have you thought about covering the UCF TCU game? 2 blocked field goals, a blocked point after, and a missed field goal with 0:02 seconds.
THe MAC is utterly glorious, wild insane, and just unbelievably amazing People used to think the WAC was wild, they called it the wacky WAC, but the MAC took that, ran with it and just dumped every trick play, every wild thing that happens on the gridiron field, and went yeah, hold my Gatorade And I love it. The MAC is awesome, and sadly we will probably never se a MAC team in contention for a natty or a playoff spot
The fact a MAC team played that kind of defense...the MAC is not known for defense. The MAC is where you can see a game with 20 possessions and no punts because every possession leads to a score.
You didn't even cover the wildest play of the game, where NIU had a clear first down by like a yard and a half and the refs spotted the ball behind the first down marker and called it 4th and inches.
What makes this even more embarrassing is that NIU turned around and lost to Buffalo. ND needs to stop watering down their schedule with MAC and Sun Belt schools because it’s obvious to anyone with common sense that their players don’t want to get up for these teams and sleepwalk through the game. This isn’t a one time thing: they sleptwalked this past Saturday against Miami, Ohio (although they won), they sleptwalked against Marshall in 2022 (lost), Toledo in 2021 (won… barely) and against Ball State in 2018 (won). For some reason the AD doesn’t notice this trend but I do.
Are we not getting that basketball shove from the just-before-the-half punt play from the Chiefs? They relented on a 68-yard FG attempt which at first made me sad they didn't have the balls for it only to have their punter turn around and get a punt to the five, but the bounce almost made it a touchback BUT his teammate leaped and threw it back behind the line to end up laying it at the TWO but they somehow marked it at the *ONE.*
Hey, as an ND fan, remember when Vandy beat Alabama? 😊 Really though, I’m mighty tired of seeing folks claiming we’re overrated. Admit the Crimson Tide are overrated or quit pinning it to us! Realistically both teams are a bit overrated and most of about the Top 15 are at the moment sadly. Irish playing pretty well though as of late so maybe we can come back from this one!
Yo I was in Ann Arbor for my horns while this was going on. Looking forward to this breakdown 👀 Well written and well edited, as good as the game was 👏
Was there. Dissapointed, the kick could have gone in. I saw the speed of the kick, and the angle was almost perfect, so the block saved yeh game. Nd always plays up to their opponents, and didn’t exceed this game, as they expected too.
There is no explanation except coaching. Because they beat Texas A&M first game and totally destroyed Purdue third game. Has to be coaching. No back up QB.
The A&M qb was 10-32 for 90 yards and 2 ints and the score was 13-13 late in the 4th. I told yall dame fans you weren’t good. Just played decent game against a team that played realllly bad on offense
thought you went to the well one too many times with the lights, camera, maction bit lol but still, awesome video and hope your channel continues to grow. Go.. huskies?
Oof, as a Notre Dame fan myself, with friends who were at that game and go to your school, yeah I get it. Horrendously hot weather and one heck of a run-up score…yeah, sorry we did that to you guys.
As an LSU fan, having to hear it from all the Notre Dame fans after the USC loss, there was nothing sweeter than watching them lose this game. This is probably my favorite loss since the kick six.

I did too 😂
"Marcus Freemna pulls out his pen and writes a single word. Fuck." Had me rolling 😂

Yo whaddup Malcom
They had a really good team like 15 years ago or so.
They were better for several years in the late 2000’s/early 2010’s

Hi Isaac, I’m an aspiring long snapper and I just wanna say I love your content. You’re a big inspiration for me
Isaac has sponsors now. He has officially made it
Our little boy's all grown up... 👏
And now Toledo beat Mississippi State. Probably not on the same level as this one, but the MAC has been interesting this year.
TOL 💪🚀
It won't get as much attention because of how overrated Notre Dame is, but with as bad as they beat Mississippi State, that win is quite impressive.

This game was crazy!
Props to NIU!
This game made me MISERABLE man. I'm glad NIU fans are happy- I love MACtion- I just wish it wasn't at my expense!
Loved the video. I was hoping for some commentary on the refs taking away a first down from NIU prior to the field goal.
Having graduated from a MAC school, I appreciated this breakdown of the MACtion.
As someone who doesn't follow college football, I appreciate all of the background info. This was an awesome video :)
I was at this game… it was devastating
Return of the MAC
We knew that they'd be back
8:58 had me dying 😂
Scoring less than 20 points as the high ranked team vs a super low unranked opponent is just embarrassing regardless of the outcome.
Northern Illinois is ranked
@@obi-wankenobi1750 They weren't even in consideration before this.
@@obi-wankenobi1750 They just lost to buffalo lol this team is not ranked anymore
Hot take, this isn't gonna be the worst upset of the season
Unless UGA gets upset by UMass or Texas gets upset by ULM, it’s hard to believe a more shocking upset would happen

@@ethano3099Notre Dame does this flop every season, they haven't been as good of a football team ever since 2012 before getting smothered by Alabama
That 2012 team wasnt even good, they wouldve been an underdog to like 5 SEC teams + Oregon + Ohio St

yeah and then NIU lost to FCS SIU the week after LOL
Your narration is unreal!

Right. I don't know why everyone is surprised it's like they haven't been watching cfb for the past like 10 years or so. This is ND's script
because usually it doesnt come off of a game like TAM
Another banger from Mr. I.Punts.
“Marcus freeman writes a single word, fuck”
Lmfao earned my sub with that line
That is exactly what Marcus wrote down
