"Longest, most painful game in college football history" This game was quite long and definitely painful, but LSU vs. A&M in 2019 literally changed the rules because of how long and painful it was.
Yeah the human body just isn't designed to play football for seven fkn hours lol smh. I remember that's what Ed Orgeron said his biggest concern was coming out of that game
@@user-go3rc3fy4iI still have the picture saved to my hard drive of Frank Beamer, arms raised, celebrating WFU's missed field goal at the end of regulation that would have won 3-0. I'm a Wake alum. But our football team has always been a joke in my house. That one year we made the orange bowl, the cheer when we won the coin toss, followed by the lopsided loss, inspired my mom to suggest a T-shirt: 2009 ORANGE BOWL (ceremonial coin toss) CHAMPIONS
I would say you are a youngin' but can't blame you lol Illinois beat #1 ohio state in the shoe bank in 07 [crazy football year to begin with] But yeah Illinois is basically a ghost at this point It's painful
As a Penn State fan, I have to say that this was honestly one of the absolute worst losses in the history of our program. How Franklin wasn’t fired after this game (and after the end of that season) is beyond me.
Are you watching a 4 hour, overtime game!? No, i’m just watching the receivers being Kadarius Toney, the QBs being Nathan Peterman, and the running backs being sacked for loss all of the sudden. So close to game winners, but not quite until the very end.
Not addressing the Sean Clifford injury misses a massive part of this game. He was knocked out vs Iowa two weeks prior, and the backup could barely run a positive play. Sean had some time to recover during the following bye week but no one knew who would start here. Sean was definitely hurt and so was I after watching this in person
Yea idk how he missed that. Pretty crucial part to the whole story, even when describing the Iowa game I was like Clifford? Are we not gonna point out that he went down? PSU was up when he went out.
It should just be simple ten minute overtime. First team to score a touchdown or defensive score wins. If you run out of time, too bad it's a tie. Or do that and follow it up with the UFL style shoot out rules if you are in the playoffs. You can't have more than double overtime and you can't have more than 3 possessions in the shootout to score points. It would at most take 25 minutes.
watched this game while at the Pitt Clemson game the same day. when Illinois finally won we announced it to the students around us and we all cheered and laughed. Good times
The old OT rules were better. The 2 point conversion thing is just stupid. Changing the rules because of a situation that happened 5 times ever was a dumb decision. Coach Ogeron whined about the A&M-LSU game cause his team decided to celebrate to early
this game shows exactly why they changed it tho. could you imagine how long this game would've taken with the old rules? two terrible offenses trading 3-and-outs and field goals for 10+ OT's? both teams would have to forfeit their next week cuz this game would still be going on 😝
I had the misfortune of having attended this game. I had to pee so bad, but I figured the game was about to he over and I didn't want to miss something. By the 3rd or 4th OT, I just wanted one of them to score and end the game so I could go to the bathroom, and neither did.
Baker Mayfield led Oklahoma beats mahomes and Texas tech 66-59 with 1708 yards between them in REGULATION!!!! and A&M beats LSU 74-72 in 7 ots and Illinois beats Penn State 20-18 in 7 overtimes is crazy differences in how football is played
2:06 Okay this is a MASSIVE pet peeve. that's a forward slash, aka a slash. It is not a backslash. There are almost never backslashes in web addresses, if you ever see one, know that somebody paid their cousin to make the website instead of hiring anyone who knew what they were doing.
love your videos bro but please for the love of god stop using those TV filters that make it look like the game is on a TV and cuts off a portion of the screen. So annoying.

A&M vs LSU also had more plays and higher points
The most painful game ever was Virginia tech-wake forest 2014

It was long but not painful. 74-72 is basically the opposite of painful
might be the first time i've ever seen a youtube breakdown vid with illinois in it
Illinois football sometimes forgets it exists too

@@greysongladney4403I remember watching that game while I was overseas in the Navy.
@@douglastaylor43 where? I am marines and was stationed in Okinawa at that time
@@greysongladney4403 on the USS Enterprise in the middle east somewhere
Fun fact: Even though this game was 9 overtimes, the under still hit
Oh that's brutal lmao
My dad was like “at what point do they just call this a draw?” 😂
As a Penn State fan, I have to say that this was honestly one of the absolute worst losses in the history of our program. How Franklin wasn’t fired after this game (and after the end of that season) is beyond me.
I mean Clifford was hurt team just was over hyped after that they won the rose bowl if they fired him we would of been screwed as a program
Who do you think we can go get that will do a better job than franklin?
Different game but...
Fourth and five after three timeouts.
Are you watching a 4 hour, overtime game!?
No, i’m just watching the receivers being Kadarius Toney, the QBs being Nathan Peterman, and the running backs being sacked for loss all of the sudden.
So close to game winners, but not quite until the very end.
“We have to change the rules” they said. “It’ll make overtime games shorter” they said
This is the most Illini thing imaginable, besides losing to Eastern Michigan at home multiple times 😂😭
It was the game that never ends. Some people started playing it, not knowing what it was.
I remember that game. I never wanted it to end, just to see how long it could go

And this is why regular-season overtime needs to be eliminated and ties brought back.
Ties are still worse than this. Nobody is happy to tie.

this was my first ever football game iv been to, college or nfl. while i am a psu fan i am still glad i got to see that game.
Breaking down the teams before getting into the game took this video to another level, I must sub now
I was at that game. After that loss was the quietest I have ever heard Beaver Stadium...
Nice piece brody
I still remember the end of that game. That game was crazy.
watched this game while at the Pitt Clemson game the same day. when Illinois finally won we announced it to the students around us and we all cheered and laughed. Good times
Reminds me of the 2018 LSU/Tex A$M game where Burrow needed fluids, and the rules were changed for overtime. LSU lost in like 7 overtimes.
Oh god why did I have to be reminded this game happened
Also, you're assessment of what modern day PSU football is all about is spot on. Always almost good enough to be the best.
I love your analysis Isaac

Like A&M vs LSU wasnt bad even lmao
College OT rules have always been gimmicky. I prefer the NFL's modified sudden death

I'm a Penn State grad and I watched that game live.
It was painful. And not just cuz we lost. The most cringe game I've ever seen.
“Play iowa and lose” yea lets just forget their starting QB got injured absolute goofball
My favorite stat from this game is that despite going for 9 OT, it somehow didn't cover the over/under of 46.5 points. #justB1Gthings
My freshman year at penn state was 2022. Thank god I did not go a year earlier and have to witness this bullshit in person.
Frames Janklin's finest moment LOL.
congrats on the fitting sponsorship lmao
That's some quality BiG10 H2O!
it is the longest game by the amount of overtimes, yes, but TAMU vs LSU was the longest game by runtime, it was almost 5 hours long.
Still think LSU Texas A&m 7 OT classic and WMU Buffalo 7 OT were longer right?
...you have a surprisingly good French accent
Never heard of Illinoise. Is that anywhere by Illinois?
When you play a game like this, you deserve to be mispronounced :)
don't call penn state "penn"
He said Illinoise, he had to do it to the other side also. Besides, it may be referring to the brand of football that day :)
Call them the look the other way Joe’s.
Kansas plan?

Im glad I'm not the only alum here experiencing the perpetual disappointment of Charlotte football. Go Niners! ⛏️
Rocket NO!
Can’t believe I almost died going to this bullshit man 😭🤦🏾♂️
Jim Franklin lol
Lets be honest, PSU is just happy being semi-relevant at this point.
