It almost beat me. I was across the river when it started coming onto the trestle so I had to hurry back to the street running section but I got caught at a red light. After that I went back across the river to film a CSX train that I heard on my scanner and I missed the street runner come back. lol

We had a half mile of railway track south of Grosmont Tunnel in North Yorkshire UK that was in 39 foot lengths and inscribed Chicago Illinois USA 1942. It was rolled specially for the LNER during WW2 and was standard British bullhead rail. It was only replaced 3 years ago though it had been re-sleeperred about 25 years ago with second hand concrete sleepers (ties in US railroad parlance). It was still only part worn from its original weight of 95lb per yard but replaced with 113 lb flat-bottomed rail in cwr.

It makes me wonder why railroad bridges can last 100 years, but highway bridges fall apart after 40 years.

    • @meme-xn6wr
      @meme-xn6wr 3 года назад +4

It’s basically just construction. Railroad bridges last for 100 years because it is just metal and nothing else, and railroads take very good care of them, with occasional sandblasting. Because if the bridge collapses, it’s a huge loss of profit for the company. The people that build railroad bridges are absolute mad lads too lol. Highways, they carry lots of weight, see more use that railroad bridges, and are often not taken care of. It’s also a comfort vs. construction deal, where we sacrifice some structure for the comfort of the people. It’s the government, not taking very good care of their roads. I may not be completely right in all situations, but that’s the deal with most of them.

JT....I gotta tell you,of all the RR YTers out there I like your videos best of all.
You have a great way about you,not too much talking, great locations, you focus on the towns surrounding the tracks which I really dig too.
Also, you remind me of the guys I chase trains with here in Eastern
    Pennsylvania.
There's about 7 of us that hang and hunt trains together.
Course, to be honest,I don't do it as much now because I'm sick n tired of seeing CSX's filthy, rusty, old beer can engines.
Here in Bucks County, near Philadelphia, we used to see BNSF Dash 9s,ES4400,T4s hauling massive coal trains slated for the NJ and Delaware refineries.
Sometimes,CPRails locks would head up these coal trains.
To see Union Pacific locos,we had to drive up to Albertis,Pennsylvania, south of Allentown coming out of the Allentown yards.
That all stopped with the coal trains pretty much as the towns didn't want oil trains tying up traffic and the danger of derailment.
I dont understand why CSX doesn't take better care of their engines.
Filthy, rusty, ugly pieces of drek that look like they went down the ravine and into a creek.
Who wants to take pictures of
    such rusty old beer cans?
I wish I could be in railroad mgt.
My damn engines would be spotless.
I'd be looking for a material to make freight cars so spray paint couldn't adhere to them.
Wash the stuff off my cars.
But, I guess I'm an Atlas Shrugged fan.
By the way,for everyone who loves trains and is angry about what has happened to the railroad industry,"Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand is a MUST read.
Her book not only tells the American railroad industry story, but the steel, coal, oil industry as well.
She is prophetic too,as it NAILS the current political situation in America today.
So,if you're a liberal,a Demonrat,or an angry mediocre type DONT read it,we wouldn't want your asshole tightening up for a week

No, Mr. Rebel Baron is NOT spot on. Liberals have not siggested that cows and meat have to go. That is the people uou believe to be leaders and news purveyors flat out lying to you.
Our steel industry was brutally murdered by unpatriotic, short signted owners, who refused to modernize steel production plants after WWII, or pay living wages to American workers. They preferred to use then cheap Japanese labor, operating in new steel production facilities which Japan had to build after the war to replace that which had been destroyed.
Our steel.scrap got shipped to Japan, and came back as shiny new Toyotas and Datsuns which were years in advance over the inefficient elephants Detroit insisted on building year after year. And all the while they preached about how unions were bad and unnecessary.
When all this got underway, CEOs made about eight to ten times what the low paid workers got! Now, they make three hundred times what the peons get. Do you think that is coincidence?

The mysteries of the abandoned Xing sign..one should see if its still there in 2026. From when you first shot the local it had run around the train and spotted 4 cars of which 3 were for granules for making roofing shingles. Never get tired of street running and this was no exception. The placement of the 4 crossing gates plus tied into the traffic lights was unique to say the least. This time no crew comments or gestures since you brought extra muscle. What an expedition!

I live in Goshen Indiana and we have a ton of trains in our town and they royally bog down traffic here, Goshen is just outside of Elkhart, and that is where all the train traffic comes form. The Norfolk Southern line runs the massive rail yard in Elkhart, I have heard that it is the 2nd largest and the bustiest in the US when I was out there for a school project in the late 90s the hump in the yard split into 72 rails and is even bigger now. We have several odd crossings but one very similar to this in Elkhart. Oh by the way my four boys are now saying "but wait there's more". LOL

Since that crossing looks like it's been abandoned for a number of years, then that RXR sign is probably abandoned. Looks like a souvenir sign waiting to be claimed.
