The problem with Star Trek 5 was twofold. First, Shatner had NEVER directed before and he got taken for a ride for the SFX. Some dude working out of his garage conned him into thinking it was a full, experienced company.
The other reason was it wasnt until around Star Trek 6 that he got how seriously the cast took the series. To him the series was a silly low budget effort that saved him from poverty. But to most of the cast, it was a career high point and they treasured working it since it was almost the only job they ever had. Around 6 Shatner interviewed the cast to see why most of them hated him (Sulu, Chekov, Scotty, Uhura) and they opened his eyes. They were brutal but honest and he apologized to them all.
So 5 was more comedic and played them all goofy because it was how Shatner saw the franchise.
Ad for his acting, prior to Trek he did a lot of plays, and back then that was "serious" acting so he was so desperate to keep the job he emoted like you would in a play. Which looks goofy in TV but since the show worked....the directors encouraged him.

Also, the novelization of 5 is based on the original script and is pretty good.

Star Trek V had some good ideas. I liked Spock’s brother as a character. But man the execution was terrible lol. Shatner did such an awful job as director. And there was way too much silly stupid crap that just wasted time. Look no further than them sitting at the camp fire singing row row row your boat and trying to explain it to Spock!😂

"Super Pitfall II" is really a Famicom game called "Atlantis no Nazo" / The Mystery of Atlantis. It also has a lot of cryptic stuff, like "suicide warps", or seemingly random warps when you expect to just fall into a pit. The overall "Super Pitfall" vibe is extremely similar with that game.
There was also unreleased Beach Volley, Card Games, Gargoyles Quest II, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York - Kevin's Dream, Monster Max, Popeye, StarHawk, Super James Pond, The Lawnmower Man games for the Nintendo Game Boy.
Matei Island was the best one of the stream 😂
I always look forward to the old NES/SNES streams. Also cancelled or unreleased games are so fascinating to learn about, even though I don't have an NES

The game with the awesome pause music, is actually a Famicom Capcom game called Higemaru Makaijima, the music was done by the same guy who did Duck Tales, Mega Man 1&2, Final Fight and 1943. It was Capcom's attempt at a Legend of Zelda style game play.
Exploding fist reminds me A LOT of the little arcade game they play in Bloodsport
Time Diver/Eon Man was shockingly good. Better than half the NES library like you said.
@@Andronicus87 I never played games to watch a daytime soap opera on cable TV. Just give me decent gameplay, graphics and consistency regarding level design and bosses & I’m good to go. Like I said, there were far worse turds that didn’t get cancelled on the NES that tormented my childhood.

It’s actually funny that Chekov and Sulu, navigator and helmsmen, can fly to the other side of the galaxy but when they touch grass in the woods they got lost.

Super Pitfall was a game I had when I was younger. It was all I had. A very flawed game. Then I tried the Super Pitfall 30th Anniversary Edition, they fixed the game, overhauled the graphics, the music. Highly recommend the 30th Anniversary version. Love seeing someone fix a bad game nowadays.

If on the odd chance you ever decide to play Dracs Night Out again, you can actually jump on and kill enemies when you have the reebok shoe. Its actually a really cool game and other levels have different styles of gameplay.

Definitely an interesting video. I actually now want to do a search to see which one of these are actual unreleased, unfinished NES games and which ones are unfinished localizations of Famicom games for NES that never saw the light of day.
I can say that that Earthbound game Mike put on briefly actually got a release via the Nintendo Switch Online service for the first time officially in North America and Europe last year.
Other Famicom games I can see are Atlantis No Nazo (named Super Pitfall II for some reason; that's a game you should give a second chance to, Mike since the Famicom game had nothing to do with Super Pitfall whatsoever), Higemaru: Makaijima (the Matei Island game...just for shits and giggles, I checked out the original Famicom game and yes, the original game has that Pause sound effect as well XD) and that last game you played (Bio Senshi Dan or Bash Bazook).
Gonna put Mike's reaction to that Pause sound effect in my Top 10 Mike Matei moments of 2023 list 🤣
There's a Super Pitfall 30th Anniversary romhack that makes the game playable! They add some better graphics, music and it's less cryptic

Shatner on Star Trek TOS was so perfect. Never understood people dogging on his acting. He was serious when he needed, aloof and funny when needed. He was the perfect captain for that show. He played well off Leonard Nemoy and DeForest Kelley.
Mike you should check out Wardner any of the 3 versions ( Arcade ,Famicom disk system and Genesis ) all are good .
Re: heavy robocop- when I introduced my best friend to zelda 1 he said the same thing about the magic boomerang vs the regular boomerang. "I don't know how this is possible, but this boomerang somehow feels heavier..."
Yesterday on the twitch stream mike mentioned the ps4 controllers and the battery life, at walmart they have usb charging cables that are 10 foot usually made by onn for 5$ .
That you plug into the front side of your ps4 and the back side of the ps4 controller then you don't have two worry about the battery..
I used that until I got a second controller and a charging stand now I don't worry about charging the ps4 controller and use the wire to charge usb-a phones
I bought a ps4 controller charger station. I’ll see if that helps at all.
I also ordered a PS2 controller to PS4 adapter thing. So maybe one of these will work.

Not sure what is happening but when I'm watching the video on my phone it's fine but when I'm watching it on my fire TV RUclips app the break music plays in its entirety over the stream @1:30 or so and the audio is disjointed for the rest of the video.

Hey, Mike, unrealated question; but, I just watched you play a Super Mario Kart hack and I noticed how creaky the controller is. My Super Nintendo controllers are the same. As someone with experience with them when they were new, were they that creaky out of the box; or, would you say its due to age?

I'm pretty sure that Time Rider Warrior Eon game was meant to be a ripoff of Captain Power. It's about the future, it's post apoc, you fight robots, he dresses exactly like Captain Power with the blue bodysuit and giant gold armor, all they did was take off the helmet. I wonder if they hoped to get the license and it fell through or if it was just a knockoff, but if it wasn't, that's an insane level of coincidence.
As a kid, I had a VHS of ST5 and a TNG VHS tape of Encounter at Farpoint. Watched the shit out of both of them before seeing ST6 in the theatre in 1991. Been a hardcore Star Trek fan ever since.
tbh Mike, I've always liked you more than James. I started watching your streams around 2015-2016 (cant remember which year you started). James don't know shit about video games but you actually do, so your content is worth watching. I remember a certain James and Mike Monday when you guys played super mario bros. 3 and James couldn't even figure out how to enter a level for awhile, it completely turned me away from James' content.
