RUclips recommending me this video somehow instead reminded me of how I imagined working with some other people on porting the same game over to the Playdate and trying to cram in all the different controls.
That would be pretty neat to see on the Playdate. I could only imagine what the crank could be used for. Part of me wants to go back to this and make a more serious effort on a de-make of PETSCII.
@@GrocerGames Oh! I actually wrote down some details of how it could look (no visual mock-ups though) for a blog post idea I randomly came up with. I'll provide a little subset of that rough draft here. What I can mention from that (though summarised to fit in this comment reply) is that the control scheme would be similar to that of the NES port as that system has a similar control scheme. Firing would be done by turning the crank clockwise, and the player fires in the direction they last moved in. The map, music, and exit buttons can just be actions in the side menu. When the side menu opens, the game detects that it had been opened and pulls up a cropped version of the mini map on the left, then there would be options to go to a full map view or statistics. In either of the two views, the left and right arrow keys could be used to switch between the two views (map or statistics) There would also be toggles to turn music and sound effects on or off.
I would love to but I had other projects that are higher up on my todo list. I do like the idea of making a sort of de-make port of PETSCII but I think a more talented programmer could make something a bit more detailed then a batari Basic program.
I will have to double check. I don’t think I ever uploaded it and there’s a possibility I may not have it I think I only made like a really quick binary to use for the video and then deleted it but I’ll have to double check.
A bit but it was only half jokingly. I love games like Berzerk and while making something more recognizable to the source may be possible in more skilled hands, I would love to port PETSCII to the 2600 which is my preferred console to play around with. It would be neat to try and make something more complex then this one screen but I was hoping others may see this and say to themselves "I can do better!"
I wonder if anyone will attempt to make a full game to see if it can be done.
The controls would suck
Edit: maybe use two controllers
This game is going to be on every system imaginable. Fuck it, let's put this on the R-zone, Game Com, and the Nokia N-Gage.

Interesting!

Interesting at best. Would like to see this WIP completed.

LOL, fun! I could see a sort of "Adventure"-level of graphical sophistication for some kind of remake / demake of "Petscii Robots" for the 2600.
Atari version should called ATASCII Robots.
ATASCII of the PETSCII Robots! 😆
@@HaroldoPinheiro-OK No.
That ruins the pun, though.
@@secretcommenter5720 There was no pun.
@@Mrshoujo Read the name out loud. lmao.
AOTPR but the Tiles are Friggin Tall and the Player and Rollerbot Sprites are Stolen from the ZXS Micro Version
Well, it's better than ET
I can always add pits!
Is a rom file available for download? (Even though it is not complete)

@@GrocerGames Alright thank you!
