Some little tips: If you managed to reach golden age in information era or further, you can choose "automation warfare" dedication to get a free giant death robot, including free +3 uranium per turn to support it
Thanks for the video, VB! For players still learning the mechanics, I would recommending avoiding Dark Ages like you said, but if you want to push your game to another level, there are cases where a Dark Age is much better than a Normal Age. Normal Ages are basically place-holder Ages: No big benefits, no big downsides, whereas Dark Ages allow for unique policies that help out your empire (sometimes by a LOT), and getting them is the only way to land truly amazing Heroic Ages. The big downside of Dark Ages is loyalty pressure (and the screen getting darker), so if you're cramped next to the AI they can be pretty bad. But if you're not being pressured and it doesn't look like you can earn a Golden Age, I would 100% advise cutting off era score and going Dark unless for some reason you need to conquer the world right now. Especially on naval maps getting a Classical Era Dark Age can make or break your whole game as you can then earn a Medieval Era Heroic Age and reap a ton of almost broken benefits. That's my two cents, anyway. Time to go back to taking one...more...turn.

after trying out Dramatic Ages, I've come to realize i don't know much about getting era score. This video definitely helps! Thank you!
Dramatic Ages is tricky for understanding Era Score because it changes the base rules.
In DA, each researched tech/civic and each unit promotion passed the first gives 1 point. In the base game, this isn't true.
I play exclusivly Dramatic Ages. Suzering city is the first key of point. Have a scout and appoint the diplomatic gouvernour in each city. The first one to have suzerain have era score. After first 1 or 2 ages, religion is the key. Declare war on evry1 and convert their city, you will have era score for it. You can be sneky about it and just declare war before city turn religion. Best belive is crusader (help war) and working + prod.

I'm trying to flip cities as elanor in a game I'm playing right now, this era score guide will come in handy for getting golden ages and loyalty flipping! I also plan on getting amani, and that garrison governor for promoted spies to forment unrest, disable governors, steal great works. I also plan on building entertainment/water park districts for the bread and circuses city project extra loyalty pressure. Late game Elenore when this is all set up is going to be fun!

I've been trying to get a golden age in the first or second change of ages, and it was super hard, until I found the wiki and created 2 scouts as first buildings. This and another guide told me everything I needed (strategy guides on Civ are kinda hard to sort...)
You cant reliably get a classical golden on standard speed. But you can get a medieval era one preety often if you play it well

Another great video. Thank you, I learned a lot. By any chance do you know if it is possible to ascertain if the AI has beaten you to an eureka, e.g. circumnavigation? If there is I have not found it apart from maybe reading through the ever growing list of messages.
So there is a mod that helps you track your own Era Score. Unfortunately, it specifically says that they don't "cheat" i.e., see if other civs have hit worldwide goals. But apparently you can do it by looking at the .sql file?

There isnt one. Not even the message list has it. I tried. You kind of have to guess it or see in the messages that are in the screen for a few seconds and remember it

Sometimes it gives you a choice of four dedications, none of which you can really exploit -- that sux.
I am having trouble with archaeologists, at a certain point I just cant produce them anymore. Do they turn into another unit or something at some point?
You can only build one archaeologist per archaeological museum you have. And you have to build them in the cities that have the museums.
So either you already built your max number, or you’re trying to build it in a city without a archeological museum 😊
@@VanBradley oh for real? I always found that in my capital I can’t build any after the first but then in other cities I can if I build an archaeological museum. Maybe I’m just not paying enough attention lol.
Barbarian Horsemen (the 20 combat strength Horseman) don't count as a horse unit, and can't be upgraded...EVER. Caveat Emptor.

This video was more about the score and how that works. The next follow up video will actually be about each era and the different ages. Talking about when it’s difficult to get them, when you should prioritize certain golden ages etc....

It’ll probably be because you’ve accidentally turned on the “Dramatic Ages” game mode

1. Get as many huts and barb camps as possible
2. Get era score on religion and spread religion everywhere
Thats the ez trick for a medieval era monumentality
Purchasing great people with gold or faith will generate era score.
But only if over 50% of the points were bought

One suggestion for those of you who might have trouble tracking your Era Score/Historic Moments, is this mod: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1699006932&searchtext=Era+Score+Tracker
It literally tracks your era score as well as all available historic moments. Personally, I will admit I don't look at it often despite having it installed. But might help some of the newer players getting used to Era Score.
