HUGE thanks to ya for isolating this solo to learn! Billys leadwork is very underrated to me, and Ive always thought he deserved more credit as a lead guitarist. His chops are amazing! Their albums were full of very intricate solos that although yielded some of the similar influences as his 90s counterparts, Billy managed to sound like in a cosmos of his own. His tone, and soloing style was totally unique and apart from the other bands of the time. The solo to "Quiet" is another one of his amazing oddities that again, is out there, yet fits what he was playing. Live, I loved his even more aggressive attack to the songs and his use of chorus pedals to really soup up the sonics. Thanks again for this!
You're welcome mate glad you enjoyed the solo breakdown! Smashing Pumpkins tunes are tricky to work out as there's so much going on in the mix, and the fuzz sound obscures a lot of pick attack etc. All adds to the challenge and lots more SP to come! :-)
I’m 42 years old and have always wanted to play this solo. I messed around as a kid with the guitar but kinda picked it up in the last year again more seriously. Your video actually made a reality something that was only possible on “air guitar” 😂. Cheers man.
I thought I heard Butch Vig say Billy played the solo, then learned to play it backwards and recorded that, then they played the backwards solo in reverse to give it that weird sound we all love. Lots of creative effects and studio magic on their early albums.
@@house9850 "underrated" doesn't mean sucks, but he never comes up in discussions of great guitarists that I've ever seen or heard. For my money, the Cherub Rock solo is my favorite solo of 90s alt rock.
Such a great job I ve been working on this solo for many months ... You nailed it perfectly! Billy is a GREAT guitarist, not only solooing to show his skills, but a great combination between chords and solo, riffs and tricky stuffs; James Iha completes perfectly the sound of guitars. Pumpkins are one of my fav bands. Keep on playing :)
Holy shit buddy that is awesome. I've always just sorta faked my way through that solo. It sounded similar when I did it, but your solo is pretty much bang on. I decided today it was about time to learn the solo properly. Great video, thanks bro. I'm subscribing
@@Harsh-yg3cc Hit key notes that ring out in the solo and fill in with similar runs. Thats pretty much how i fake any guitar solo that I'm too lazy to actually sit down and learn haha
Thank you! Quick tip for guitarists on a Budget: It won't sound exactly right, but you can get "close enough" to Corgans tone with a cheap Phaser and a Fuzz. Good enough for bedroom rockers anyway.
Awesome video thanks just started learning to play and as pumpkins are the greatest band ever trying to get as much information on there songs and you killed it so even a newbie like me can understand new subscriber..
Brian Madden thanks Brian! Yea that’s a shame Santi’s off back to Spain but totally understandable decision given the uncertainty around, well everything at the mo! I’ll defo miss playing live with him and just hanging out at weekends away with the band tho.

Yeah man, you nailed it. I agree with everything you just said.
I believe the Asian dude is who writes the solos

Billy Corgan's a super-underated guitar player. One of the best songs/solos EVER. Thank you!!
most people I know including myself dont underrate him. I dont think he's underrated.. everyone knows he's great. Who said he sucks ?

This one is really nice. Thank you for covering this. The clean solo for Hummer would also be pretty great.
ohplezz you’re welcome glad you like it and cheers for the suggestion!
Let's Play All second that for “hummer” if you wouldn’t mind sharing your skills w another SP tune. Great lesson mate
@@ricjenner1120 nice thanks Ric! have a load of Patreon requests i need to put up first but i'll get that on the list :-)

how did you use to fake?

@@Harsh-yg3cc In the case of Cherub Rock i would hit all the main notes in the key, fill in with slides hammer on pull offs, and bends.
