Doesn't matter how old I get or how many times I hear it, I still get a charge out of that sound.
solo coming soon ;-)
This is the only video that I've watched the first thirty five seconds of five times in a row. That took me back immediately, thanks dude!!
@@andrewherbert7108 welcome mate!
Yes, please do the solo and also many more Smashing Pumpkins songs! GREAT LESSON man!!!
Yes to both of those! Thanks very much 😊
@@LetsPlayAll can you do the song drown by the smashing pumpkins best song they ever wrote imo.
Simon Sauvé fear not more on the way very soon 😉🤘
I agree!
A true classic. Straight forward in a lot of ways but the little nuances you've shown really make it. Fuzz pedal time 🤘🏼
Yea it's pretty simple stuff but done with some style! Any excuse to play fuzz though :-)
Im making my way thru' your Pearl Jam series, and her now is the leading song from one of my all time favourite albums. Had to look at this!! Smashing Pumpkins were in a galaxy of their own during the 90s. Billy's style and sound was totally his own. And he embraced the full on rock star thing at a time when his contemperies were trying to bow down from the limelights, by putting on huge production shows and releasing a double album of eclectic brilliance at a time of Green Day's three chord thunderstrikes, with the Mellon Collie masterpiece. An absolute massive influence on me in my mid teens, and Cherub Rock is a timeless, fuzzed out classic. Id love to see you crack into "Quiet". That is one of the best things on the album. Brilliant stuff you do on this channel. Hello from Ireland!
Hey Kyle! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a great comment, really pleased you’re enjoying the content! Agree totally about SP and I’ve no idea why this has taken me so long, well actually in part I wanted to wait until I had a fuzz pedal so I could do the tone justice but even so plenty of their other songs don’t have fuzz but hey ho, I’ll be doing the rest of the album(s) for sure so stay tuned! 😀🤘
This personally one of my favorite Pumpkins song... Love the usage of the octaves....
Great pedal, cool tutorial my friend!
Thanks mate, yea the octaves remind me of Can't Stop by RHCP at the beginning. Stylish playing and nicely crafted tune!
Corgan LOVED his octaves.
I've never seen you happier than with a song like this, makes me laugh every time, just like a big kid with a loud toy. Rock on!
😂 Guitar playing should always be fun mate :-) Cheers!
Why does this video not have more likes, spot on, what a belter of a tune
Ah thanks man, appreciate it!
This is my all time favorite song to play on guitar! Thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome you're welcome Alex :-)
Solo please!
Alex D it’s on the list mate 😀🤘
Yeah, that guitar solo is awesome. Reminds me of Billy Idol’s eyes without a face guitar solo simplistic, but yet so melodic.
That fuzz tone is awesome Matt! Great lesson! Maybe you should do more songs from that album? Siamese Dream is one of the greats like Ten, Dirt, and Badmotorfinger, which I'm certain you are already well aware of. Cheers sir!
Thanks mate, it’s a super simple pedal to dial in lovely fuzz tones! Yes indeed more SP to come for sure, Badmotorfinger too! And a load of others 😉🤘
Love ur videos man, just got the virus and I’m using a lot of videos of yours to learn new songs so I don’t get bored🤘
Just subscribed, can’t wait to see what you do next🔥🔥
Thanks for the sub Isaac, and wishing you get well soon mate! Lots more lessons coming!
Hi, thanks a lot from France. Very good job as usual. Please do some more SP lessons. So many wonderfull tracks, it will give awesome lessons, I have no doubt about it.
Bonjour! Thanks very much mate, more coming for sure :-)
hu hu huuuu!!!!!! It's a great pleasure to learn the song i loved, on a saturday aftermoon with the fender junior ball!!!Thanks
Fantastic song. Nothing beats a big muff!!
Yes indeed! :-) Especially when they're kinda small muffs in size nowadays!
Great lesson, would love to see the solo 🙏🏽
itsacebruhhh thanks mate, coming soon 😀🤘
This is great. Thanks so much.
I love the tone of your teaching. It's as good as the guitar tone.
This week - chords, next week - solo....maybe 😬
I've subscribed and will check out your other content soon. 😊👏
Thanks mate! Lots on here and the solos on here somewhere already too. Enjoy and thanks for the sub!
awesome lesson! aweson song! I always though it would have some weird tunning or something. Keep it up! love your whole format
ah thanks for the kind words Antonio! Will do mate!
Awesome lesson - thank you mate!
Thanks Matt, my pleasure!
You’re rocking it mate... love it. I’m starting an unhealthy EHX collection myself, so can achieve this tone for once! Saw them at Wembley Arena in 2000 and it’s still in my top five live gigs... absolute badasses. I only have another 12 or 13 live gigs in my top five now though 🤪
Teddy Vedder haha cheers Teddy! EHX are brilliant value tbh, I’ve only tried the soul food before this fuzz and that is very good too for the price. Never seen SP live bet that was a good time to see them!
I honestly rate their gear, it’s great value and just my level. Pumpkins peeked at that time I was lucky to see them in their pomp with the full line up... unforgettable.
Teddy Vedder agreed mate! Must stop looking at new pedals!! In fact maybe I’ll start asking you lot if you want to see any pedal demos as they’d be fun to do!
Love the pedal. Got me one too.
Recommend Jelly Belly. Super fun to play
cdreyes81 great track, need to do some Melon Collie lessons 😀🤘
Simply great! I need to find time to cover it too, tnx for ur tutorials.. Please, try always to explain in detail how to get the tone, it's very interesting
Thanks Alex you're welcome! Tbh i just do it by ear until i've dialed in something similar, if you have a different amp etc then even the same pedal settings would be different but this should get you roughly in the same ball park :-)
That op-amp big muff has replaced my rams head on my board. It is just phenomenal and what a price
superb value isn't it! Also super fun to play :-)
Very very great job, thx a lot! I'd really love a lesson like this on "i am one"
You're welcome thanks!
Great stuff, big muff in the mail ty
Great lesson, thank you.
You’re welcome!
Just wait for the solo😍
Dorian Makovac haha it’s coming, I’ve worked it out already 😀🤘
Great Song....great playing at parties....even now!!!
haha especially now Marty :-)
this is gonna take a while to get up to speed but thanks for the lesson!!
No worries mate and stick with it you can nail it! Just break down each section slowly and build up from there! 🤘😀
Intersting thing how Big Muffs sounds also good with open chords
Yea really quite articulate pedals given the amount of noise!
@@LetsPlayAll articulate brutality
Dorian Makovac they sounds like an excellent band name 😎🤘
@@LetsPlayAll 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍
Great work mate!
Thanks a lot!
ok im new on guitar everyoe i see showing this appears to be pressing then releasing the octave strings when they strum them but no one is mentioning that. if all the other strings are muted why press then release to mute the octave strings when the e is hit why not just hold them down?
Great lesson! On an unrelated note, which humbucker are you using in this Start? I've been meaning to put one in mine.
Thanks Vishesh! The humbucker is a Suhr DSV (made by JST i think) - supposed to be a dynamic vintage style humbucker. I'm a big fan of it!
Another hit 😁
:-)
Love it! Looking forward to more Smashing Pumpkins, just do the whole Siamese Dream album :) Are you running your amp through a cab or using an OX with headphone out? I see you wearing headphones each video and didn't know if it's your guitar or the song itself as reference. Thanks!
Haha i probably will do the entire album at some point ;-) Signal chain is Gtr - Pedalboard - V40 - Two Notes Torpedo Captor - Audio Interface - laptop - Cubase. Basically i can only record in the evening when i'm not working and once the kids are asleep so i need to be able to play quietly but still get the tube goodness from my amp so the Torpedo Captor allows me to do that, but i then have to connect it to my DAW and listen through headphones, which is a bit of a pain but i'm looking at other options :-)
@@LetsPlayAll Siamese Dream complete would be a popular choice. It's a grunge classic.
Dale Frary yes indeed I’ll add it to the list for the “All the riffs” series 😀🤘
@@LetsPlayAll do Gish as well. Great riffs in there. Greetings from Nazaré, Portugal.
Amaaaaaaaaazing
Cheers!
GREAT lesson! I have a question. Are you muting the E when you're playing the octaves? Is that why your middle finger is hovered over? It seems like a lot of work to worry about muting the E everytime I strum the octave.
Correct! I think i mentioned that in the vid, but to get it sounding clean so you can just hack away and not worry about other strings sounding out you need to mute. But there's no law that says you have to if it gets in the way of fun! :-)
@@LetsPlayAll Thanks for the reply! I figured it wasn't so important when doing the E power chord, but I should get in the habit for the other chords.
Kevin Lerner ahh sorry I think I misunderstood, for the clean part in the intro I’m doing that. For the distorted octave riff I’m muting the E string with my palm slightly in between or it becomes a bit of a noise fest but again, don’t worry if it stops you having fun! 😀🤘
do you mute the e string with your middle finger??
Hello, do you recommend to buy this fuzz? I want to use it for other music genres as well. I wonder if he can handle the jack white (over ...) sounds.
Hey there, I'd recommend it for the Smashing Pumpkins "Siamese Dream" album tone as it nails that and it's great value for money. But it pretty much just does that tone. A lot of fuzz pedals will tend to do just one thing well. The Over and Over you'll need something that can get a bit more spitty, and I used the ThorpyFX Field Marshall for that but that won't get you the SP tones as it's a more aggressive fuzz, but brilliant fun! If you want a varied fuzz that will get you close to both those options then the Hungry Beaver from Soundlad is worth looking at (check out my demos). The HB you get a tenner off with BEAVERALL code (it's an affiliate code btw) but I'd still recommend it without that. So depends on your budget. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your answer. I am asking for one more advice regarding the fuzz. I saw your video about boss fz1w. Maybe this one would be the perfect choice as a universal one. I mostly play grunge and jack white and stoner genres. I love your movies. It's like a guitar netflix. Thanks a lot. Sorry from my english. Hej
It's tricky with Fuzz pedals as there's not really a one size fits all, but the Boss Fuzz is definitely a varied pedal and that will get you in the ball park of the SP tones too plus some of the Jack White stuff. It's all down to your budget and what you'll use it for the most. Hope that helps!
Thanks.
Solo please, great lesson
Danango cheers Danango will get the solo lesson up soon 🤘
Great
Good
Yyyyyyeeeeeeeeesssssssss
I try with my Green Russian clone😁
Do it - any fuzz will nail this tone i'm sure!
Fantastic job but I doubt if the big muff would sound like this on a real amplifier...
Enzo Hess thanks man, it’s going through my V40 tube amp and I use the two notes torpedo captor with their wall of sound plug in, it’s very similar to how it sounds with my v40 through the speaker
@@LetsPlayAll thanks, i'm in doubt between this and the triangle big muff. Do you have a lesson on Shine? Collective soul
Enzo Hess depends what tone you’re after I guess, for SP the op amp nails it! Haven’t heard of Shine tbh, will check it out 🤘
@@LetsPlayAll shine use similar effects to cherub rock haha, take a look and give a lesson, hugs
Smashing Pumpkins are better than Crushing Melons, Blasting Bananas, Smooshing Grapes, Exploding Cherries and the rest combined 👌😃👍
haha so many bands with food in the title...RHCP, Blind Melon, The Cranberries.... :-)
@@LetsPlayAll I've mentioned it before, but once again, the tabs are much appreciated!
Kowboy USA no probs mate, I always like to learn from tabs so cheers for the feedback 😊🤘
What's the strumming pattern?
For which bit?
@@LetsPlayAll intro & riff
@@wavyrendon intro just downstrokes, main riff i play alternate down and upstrokes. Basically where there's a slide you'd only be playing a downstroke and "ignoring" the next upstroke. So first three notes for example would be D (slide) D U etc.
What strings are you strumming?
in which part mate?
The intro
@@wavyrendon just as per the tab, so for the octaves you'll strum 3 strings (A D G) but only A and G will sound out. Use some flesh from your first finger to mute the D strings. Hope that helps!
Is that Fuzz or Fart?😅 kidding, great lesson.
1979?
most definitely on the list :-) need to do some more SP
Pedal wasnt designed by billy, was a chance gift from a friend. Get the lore right :)
The Op Amp Big Muff I’m using here was defo a collab between Billy and EHX - are you referring to the original v4 Big Muff?
哈哈,您竖中指对我笑的样子很幽默0:27
Errou com 3 segundos de música
Do not play with all downstrokes. Let your left hand take care of the mutes. 🤘
Seriously.
WRONG!
Feel free to elaborate I’m all for constructive criticism amigo 😊
