I usually play rhythm guitar at home. It’s what drew me to play as a teen. I was always more fascinated with EVH’s rhythm playing more than soloing. But I admit it made me unusual compared to my friends.
Awesome rhythmic riffing is what sounds badass if youre at a guitar center amongst the half ass noodling of sharp or flat note bends and sloppy pull offs.
Badass as always! I recently switched to learning rhythm guitar and find it extremely valuable! The two giants that I’ve been studying a lot recently are Tom Petty and Malcom Young! What an incredible legacy they left us with.
Great reminder! I have song list that has everything from old sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica and megadeth that I play along to and only play rhythm. Which helped a ton hearing the leads while I played the rhythm section. Really helped me hear the whole song and know intimately where it all fits together. Thanks mate!
@ I had an original legacy, wanted to like it but just didn’t. Had to play it loud to get good tone which isn’t always ideal. The legacy 3 has a 15 watt option switch which is fantastic for playing indoors with a family downstairs.
I love these ideas, when I got my looper/drum pedal, my rhythm chop's got tight, and really helped me improve better solo's. But I'm a sponge and always soak up info and ideas 🙏
I actually play around with this quite a bit, it feels a bit like cheating because you are shorting up the chords but for 70's/80's rock it is essential. Thanks for sharing my friend. Keep Rock'N 🤘😎🎸
thanks Leon. These licks sound so good fast or slow. Play them as a loop and then you can go to town on your soloing (if you want). Just wondering if you were playing the through your FM9? If so, was it one of your standard presets?
@@TechnoArtful-tk2yh SRV really had some powerful rythym chops and was always strumming rythym while soloing even that ability really made him a stand out cut above the rest of guitarist IMO Phil-X is another monster rythym player you should go check out his stuff as well....
Your bands lyrics are badass. Great stuff, brother.
Keep the 80s 5 minute riffs coming. Love this lesson. Something I'm gonna try and learn more and use 😊

Diads against a pedal tone generated a load of '80s riffs. Great fun!
that les paul is gorgeous !
Exquisite, sleek, and dangerous!

It’s the way. 🤙🏻
Fantastic lesson! Thanks
My pleasure!
Absolutely Brilliant!!!! ♥️

It's all about the groove!
@ hey man, side bar to the thread here… have you tried the Carvin Legacy 3 amp? If not you may consider trying one.
@@allengarrow6295 I've only tried the original Legacy, fun amp. I've got a V3 head which is an interesting one too

More Rhythm lessons please! Very helpful.
I'm with you on that one!

Wow, this thumb technique is pretty cool, I've actually never even thought about using it!
nice thanks
Awesome!!! Thank you!

Greetings from Dallas Tx
Anj just like that five songs were born, one a minute 🤟
The lighting makes that LPC look purple and now I want a purple one.
Ooooph. Can't unsee it now!
Cool ❤
Excellent lesson ! I have mostly tried full chords and it never sounds right !
🤘
thanks Leon.

Axefx III but it's the same as the usual FM9 preset I use
Cool
Did Leon include the " powerchord, then the 5th of the powerchord flattened" technique? Very George Lynch-esque technique!
No, that's for a future episode 😁
More more on rhythm guitar and how to apply it to playing lead. Some much on lead playing and rhythm gets over looked.
8th 🎉🎉
Two groups that love five minute licks. Guitarists and women. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I found that 90% percent of guitarist never practice hone their rythem chops like say a drummer or bassist would
Totally true. Practicing by learning many songs accurately all the way through is the only way

Wan to learn 80 hard rock/metal Rhythm? learn 2 albums BATM and 1987 that should cover it all in like 20 songs, not so much
Or just BATM and Children of the Night
If you don't mind me asking, what is the BATM album?
@@jtbranman Bark at the Moon maybe?
@@caiostrider3669 Thanks! I totally spaced out on that one.
@@jtbranman I didnt get it at first too, but after Leon mentioned it in the video, it made sense
