    Hi! Great video! I use the acid as well and have found that using a qtip to lightly apply 2-3 thin coats (about 2 minutes apart) creates very crisp lines. I started out by soaking/sitting items in the acid but it was too messy for me. The qtip method stops the waste of vinyl, mess and acid.

    • @danielsmith6207
      @danielsmith6207 3 года назад +11

      Do you know if that would work on the colored tumblers?

      @@tisharenee2755 I was wondering this also. Sam's Club just got in 4 packs of smaller drink tumblers (like stemless wine glass sized, but a tad taller), but they are all colored. They are really pretty and I wondered if this would work with them. They were $20 for a pack of 4.

      @@tisharenee2755 that’s so great to know! Thank you! Did you find that it etched as deep as it did when you “soaked” the item in the solution? I tried essentially “painting” the acid on with a qtip, but I didn’t get a very deep etch. However... I didn’t try reapplying every couple of minutes! I can’t wait to try this again and see how it does! Thank you!

    I have just now found your videos and I love how well you explain everything. I am new to all this stuff. My husband usually does all the designs and vinyl cutting on our 34 inch uscutter (when he ordered it I thought it was small like the one I see you using. And when he put it together I already gave up in my mind because it was so huge. I have had a recent brain injury that has caused huge short term memory loss so learning something this big and detailed was just too much. However orders have picked up right as he got a second job so now it is all up to me....and I was overwhelmed till I found your videos.) just wanted to take some time to tell you that the way you explain things make it some much easier for me to understand with my brain issues so thank you so much for sharing your talent and your knowledge in such a detailed way! I just this past week bought a few glassware items to try to vinyl and etch myself without his supervision (LOL) and found your channel the very same day...I have been studying your videos and gaining confidence-I will be trying some your methods and tricks this coming week...again, thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!!!!! I am so excited to try this method😁😁😁😁😁

    I just got my first Cricut. It's all hooked up, but I haven't done my first project. Your details helped to fill in some blanks! Thank You so much!! I was already planning to use my Cricut to etch on glass, I didn't think about metal. I can't wait to watch more of your videos!!

    Could you just use tape or something else other than vinyl (to save vinyl) to cover the rest of the cup around the design? Or would it not hold up against the acid? 🤔

    When covering the tumbler to prevent acid from accidental messes, can one use painters tape instead of remaining vinyl? Or does vinyl work better to prevent acid accidents? 🤗

    This is really cool stuff! Does the color of the etching depend on the color of the metal tumblers? Is there a way to make etching darker?

    • @mrcraftypants
      @mrcraftypants  3 года назад +1

      If I had to guess... I’d say the type/color of the stainless steel will produce a different color etch, but I have no way of knowing. I used the same type/brand of tumbler for all of my tests so that I had a consistent baseline.

      Clean off and neutralise the chemicals, dry, then colour the etch with a maker pen before you remove the stencil. Paint also works but is more fussy to remove.

    First off you are the best cricut instructor on the web!! Second, I received a cricut for Christmas from my amazing husband. My first project is this mug design that I etched, with the aid of your amazing video. I do have several beginner screw-ups, but it was not because of the video. I did not apply my vinyl tight enough on some of the places on the mug, and I did not notice that part of my I was missing. Other than that it turned out great! Thanks mr. Crafty pants.

    Why did you use vinyl to cover the whole tumbler instead of something less expensive?

    • @mrcraftypants
      @mrcraftypants  3 года назад +6

      I’ve tried less “expensive” options, but they all ended up leaking and ruining the cup. A high quality permanent vinyl doesn’t have to be expensive. A sheet like I used can cost around $0.65. I personally love the StarCraft HD brand! bit.ly/37QHwMU
