My cat was sitting on my lap for this episode, figured I'd enrich her life by showing her some Crafsman. Every now and then I'd hold my phone down for her to watch and ask if she was getting the info... Well, she just kinda blinked at me, but I think that's a yes.!

I use ferric chloride to make Printed Circuit boards, and can add a few tips: 1) Heat up the etchant to about 80 C (176-180 degrees Fahrenheit) and it will etch quickly 2) keeping the etchant moving speeds things too 3) Spray Paint makes a great etch resist. Just remove the paint (scrape it off) in the areas you want to etch. If your makerspace has a laser, use that to remove the paint!
The real game changer is a thing called dry film. Almost the same technique, the only difference being you're going to use the transparency as a mask, not a transfer. The dry film is a UV activated plastic that bonds to the metal. It's perfect for PCBs and i'ts the industry choice alongside with silkscreening, which is also a great technique if you're running medium to big batches
I've used press and peel blue for over a decade, and I love it for PCBs, I never really thought about using it for decorative art, past putting my name on my boards with the circuits. I enjoy watching your videos for no other reason than learning new usage ideas for stuff I already have in stock.
Thank you Craftsman! This video is just what I was looking for! Btw I somehow figured out how to transfer an image onto metal using regular paper. For those who struggle: use an image printed on regular paper, press it against the metal picture down, apply some acetone. Make sure you don't move the picture. Wait for a minute and repeat. Then using water and cotton buds gently scratch off all the paper. The image should stay on the metal. I did it and it worked for me 👍

Well great papa Craftsman 😮 just when I thought after years of learning and collecting supplies and that my two story five bedroom home is now just a huge studio in every room. So being a mixed media artist I have each room set up for its own media . Anyways I was finally relieved and ready to shine by creating rather than purchasing and learning UNTIL I just had to go and watch this video, nice thing is I have everything needed other than the acid which I just placed a order for some on Amazon. I've just discovered your channel while searching for etching techniques, and I have to say, this is easily the BEST channel I've found in a very long time. Thank you so much CrafsMan! I'm about to give this a try after electro-etching didn't net the results I was after. Since that generates heat during the process, I found that vinyl from my Circuit wouldn't stay put and the liquid leeched under and ruined the design. I see in your notes that you suggest that it could work with this technique, so I'll give it a try.

I picked up the $30 scotch laminating machine off amazon & pulled the top off it for more room / visibility. Starting with passing the bare stainless sheet through a few times to heat it up, then passing the toner paper & stainless sheet through 10 - 15 times produces a perfect no effort transfer. Just wear cotton gloves or a have a rag as the piece will be hot while you keep passing it through the machine. Much easier than a heat gun or iron in my opinion

I use ferric chloride to make Printed Circuit boards, and can add a few tips:
1) Heat up the etchant to about 80 C (176-180 degrees Fahrenheit) and it will etch quickly
2) keeping the etchant moving speeds things too
3) Spray Paint makes a great etch resist. Just remove the paint (scrape it off) in the areas you want to etch. If your makerspace has a laser, use that to remove the paint!
Excellent tips! Thank you!
Spray paint > laser to remove is a really interesting hack. Sounds quick too tbh.
