I loved every second of it. The way you made the master is brilliant and the casting was great!! Not to mention the animation. Another great one Captain ❤🖤
Every bit of this video makes me grin. 13 year old me likes this as much as 39 year old me. A vinyl cutter is my only cnc and I thought this etching application might work. So it does. Thx Cap.
This was wonderful. I wasn't really looking to get into this type of handcraft. However, it surely gave me some ideas for another type of work. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and for making it fun. Much success!
The intro animation, with its music and sound effects, gives me a happy fuzzy feeling every time. Especially the sound of the ship. Nothing short of amazing! These are some fabulous coins you've got there. The etching came out sooo good!
Absolutely beautiful, I love the small imperfections in the casted coin. It makes it look like it was part of hidden treasure long lost at sea. Well done.
Well that's a piece of shiny perfection right there! I already had all those things on the makery bucket list but now I want to do all of them right now! Beautiful edit, spot-on music, animation nailed, artistry through the roof plus Jess and Gary? Oh, and you made your own absolutely fabulously gorgeous shiny currency. Literally awesome, Cap'n.
There needs to be a “LOVE THIS AWESOME VIDEO!!!” Button to push!! Love your creativity and your awesome, incredible (and all other adjectives and adverbs) videos and executions!! One of the top channels on RUclips for sure! Just keep em comin!!
Great video Brett!! Editing spot on as per usual and this was really interesting to watch how you took the design from computer all the way through to a smashing piece of treasure. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks for the video Brett. Nice work. I take it was made at the DiResta shop. Love to watch Jessie even in an animation. I am a bit late to the party, saw you at MC2019 and found you on Laura's RUclips 10 makers. Now a subscriber. Keep up the interesting and very entertaining work. Arrr!

Really great stuff, Cap.♠️ My pops left me two pieces of eight when he passed. He was no pirate like you, but he was a sailor. They're my favorite memento of him.
Once again, what an amazing job... The quality never gets low! I can't even imagine how time consuming is to create the animation. Thank you Captain! 😎
Oh yeah Brett!! Great stuff! I don't know if you remember, but I asked you about making coins some time ago, I liked the way you went on making them, I though about something completely different, like CNCing or just simply pressing with a punch, but you took a very creative way to on it, love it! Keep it up brother!
Awesome project. That’s a great use of etching. You also could have 3D printed the coin if you anyhow plan to cast it - might have been easier than the etching...
Brett McAfee If you run into problems again feel free to DM me the settings and a picture of the print. Tracking down the issue is usually a smooth sail. 😏
Hey Brett, Danimal here. Just want you to know YOURE THE MAN. And I'm jealous you get to hang out with Jimmy all the time. I'm going to school to be a machinist but I've always been a maker. I just want you to know that out of all the making videos I make my girlfriend watch, she REALLY enjoys yours. Keep up the awesome work man.
The "I don't know what you mean" animation made me smile; I only recently watched the video on Jessie's channel where she explained she can seem a bit abrupt sometimes and I can totally relate to that. Your animation of her just shows that crew stick together, keeping a sense of humour and accepting one another for who you are ^-^ The coins you made are absolutely beautiful, I love how you showed two different methods for making them as well. Awesome as always Cap'n McAfee! I hope you enjoy that well earned rest =D
Brett McAfee Hey Cap'n, I wasn't sure where to post this so figured I'd just put it here. It was really good to meet you on Saturday, thank you so much for talking to me, for being so lovely and for the cool gifts! I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you much on Sunday, you always looked so busy I didn't want to bother you, but I hope the coffee helped you feel better =) (I have no idea how you and the rest of the makers kept going all day, I was pooped within the hour...Jess especially had me in awe of her energy!) Anyhoo, what I didn't get to say was that these past few years have been pretty rough, but discovering your channel last year has really helped me. There have been days on end where I've struggled to get up out of bed, but then you've uploaded a video and that has motivated me to face the day. It might sound a bit odd, but the way you clearly enjoy what you do and the amount of hard work, passion and care/detail you put into each video, from the story to the editing to the project itself...Your videos motivate me to try my best, not worry as much when things go wrong and see mistakes as a learning experience, to keep trying to get better, to try new things... You've helped to inspire me to keep going when I've been so close to giving up. I even found the confidence to come to Birmingham alone and because of that I got to try my hand at blacksmithing! I had such a good experience, trying new things and finding new hobbies to pursue, as well as meeting a lot of really lovely people. I know I'm super awkward and a clumsy communicator, but everyone was so nice! Sorry for the long ramble, I wish I'd got to tell you in person properly but it was so busy! I just wanted to let you know how incredibly grateful I am to you for sharing your work with us, and that I hope everything just keeps getting better for you in future =) Oh, and the 'smiths knife you made over at the forge was really cool, it was awesome to see you in action! You guys were very entertaining and informative =D I hope you enjoy your travels and have a safe voyage home Cap'n McAfee =)
You want to captain my ship? I don't think I closed my mouth the whole time I watched this video - from the animation to start, the mastering, post-mastering, electro-etching, casting and of course the finished, salt-water eaten cast version, like Emeralda dollars found in the shipwreck of my vision, the Emeralda. Thank you!
This was so good! I thought you were going to stop at the master. Cool to see you cast another one as well. I'm so curious how you make those awesome animations as well. Well done sir!

Excellent bit of coinage there Mr Captain Sir! I'll bet removing the vinyl around the detailed lettering was quite a challenge! All turned out great, anywho :)

When you're so much of a pirate you forge your own coins 🤣 Great video Brett. I was just thinking the other day that I haven't done any etching in ages. I always struggle with the resist mask, as I dont have a vinyl cutter.
I've had some success using such a method- I bought one of those cheap dye cutters scrapbookers use (the ones that are basically a set of rollers with two plastic plates). I've found if I take a piece of thin sheet aluminium and stick some strips of electrical tape to it, then with the right set of shims I can run it through the cutter and it will cut me out a stencil of electrical tape. I find it distorts very easily when I peel it off though, and obviously I'm limited as to what dyes I can get. I've recently bought some rub down letter transfers for my bookbinding, I'm curious to see how they work as etching resists.

Inspiration for a brass project recently presented to me. thanks for the tip Capt.
You're quite welcome.
Awesome project. That’s a great use of etching. You also could have 3D printed the coin if you anyhow plan to cast it - might have been easier than the etching...
3d printing was attempted. With much failure. Plus, salt water and electricity. Something most folks have access to.
Brett McAfee Fair point. What caused the failure in 3D printing?
No clue...as I don’t really have enough experience with the process. Details just came out chunky and the whole thing just kind of broke apart
