hey @TheCrafsMan I used to make my own homemade electronic circuit boards using this etching technique, printing a circuit and applying to a copper plate.. But instead of a heat gun, we used a regular clothes iron. Copper plate squeezed between some paper towels and iron them together. So applying pressure, while heating makes the ink grip on to the copper better.

1. This was educational and the stuff you made was cool, as always. 2. I love it when you show the imperfections of the process cuz all real crafters know that projects only come out the way you planned 32% of the time. 3. Bless you for this fine video (with the dog barking!) on this sad, cold, grey day in the northeast 🙏🏻👍🏻💙

This is the first video I have seen that you have produced. It is, by far, One of the best instructional DIY videos I have seen. You shared a lot of information in a way that it is easy to understand for every layman - alternative diy chemicals, prep and maintenance methods, safety issues.Needless to say, I am more than impressed. Thank you! ❤
The only one to give me a non-electricity etching style, and such smooth and relaxing tones. I know which channel I’ll be binge watching for a good while.
Mr Crafsman, I found your channel a week ago in doing some research for an idea I've had in my head for a years. Not only have I been soothed and entertained by your heart and charisma, as well as educated in numerous interesting endeavors I otherwise would likely never have been exposed to, but I have been moved and inspired to begin working on that long-imagined project and I can't wait to share the results with you as your wisdom and heart have a hand in this coming to be! I hope you and your family are enjoying safety and peace and I wish you abundance and success as you keep on steady craftin. Be well, friend.
I love thecrafsman! When I can't sleep at night, I watch his videos just to listen to his voice but end up getting too excited to try out his awesome techniques!!!! I can listen to you all day!
I'm probably old enough to be your Grandma and I get the biggest kick out of all of these interesting ideas. I'll likely not ever have a 3 d printer but I might do some metal casting and definitely am learning to solder. Thanks for the fun and informative videos.
Thank you, Jennifer! I was about to start typing out random names and numbers, as if I was reading the phone book, but then I decided to just say that I thought about doing it. ;)
Where has this been all my crafting life? I have been binging your channel all day. Thanks for the inspiration and entertainment to keep me “steady crafting!”
I've been etching circuit boards with the DIY mix for years, and I've also used it to do some small designs in aluminum in the past. What I did *not* know is that it will also etch stainless, and that is wonderful information to have in my arsenal. It never even would have occurred to me to try it. Thank you for teaching me something today! :-)
Glad this video was useful to you! It was a big deal for me to learn that the same etching techniques I'd been using for copper can be used for stainless. I have MUCH more stainless steel material laying around. :)
Muriatic or more correctly, hydrochloric acid, is a very strong acid that has mild reactivity because of the lack of an oxidant. Once you incorporate an oxidant, hydrochloric acid will attack most metals except silver.
Man, When you started to talk, It took me back to the 70's livin in SE DC. THEN you broke out the Atari 2600!! I was transported back! Thanks Brotha!!! Good times!
My man ! I started doing some simple clay sculpt / silicone mold / resin cast stuff just out of boredom and lack of creative outlet due to covid ! ( I’m a tattooer usually ) . You have showed me SO MUCH MORE I can do ! I absolutely LOVE this channel and would love to support it more .
Oh my! Wasn't expecting the incredible sock puppet, instantaneously smiling and laughing. You just made my day CrafsMan. I rarely ever feel the need to voice my opinion in the comments but damn, your uploads are just too good.
"CrafsMan, you messed me up!" No worries, your instructions are very clear! I like your everyday examples, like "don't go eat a sandwich" because that is exactly the kind of mistake I would make.
You are phenomenal! I love how you experiment, showing the various results. I also like your soft gentle voice. Thank you for making the beginner "wannabe's" a place to start and different methods and results to try. Even the ones that don't always turn out like expected or hoped. The fact that you start small, thus offering encouragement to continue trying/without a large sum of money being wasted.
I have no projects at all that would require any metal etching whatsoever. But I'm watching this video just because I like listening to this man instruct me on various procedures.
Thank you! I wanted to show y'all the "mess ups" too, to let you know to keep trying at it. I like it the best out of the ones I did. It helps to have a nice, clean design, too. :) Thank you for watching!
One of the best channels. Everything is broken down in a way most people can understand. The only etching I've done was on a stainless steel blade using electricity and a salt water soaked q-tip. I used making tape to mask off the material I didn't want etched. I think it was salt water anyway. Not sure now.
Thank you, Joel! I've been practicing my board-breaking and ironing my... kimono? What do they call the karate uniform? The "dojo" is the place. But the... outfit deal. I know there's a name for it. Suit. Karate suit.
@TheCrafsMan SteadyCraftin THANK YOU. I have been searching for a solid week on a good way to get started with a scalable, DIY way to make enamel pins at home and here it is!
Let me be one more human being to sing your praises! You are so awesome. You crack me up yet inspire me. So happy to have found your channel. Sending love and light from Sedona!
Hey Crafsman! Love the channel! I'm a printmaking college student that's been etching copper in ferric chloride for just a short while, love seeing the ingenuity in the DIY side of it, especially since I'd like to continue my intaglio stuff when I leave and might not have a studio like I've got access to now. We call this method of etching an "open bite" because of all the open surface getting eaten away, and we like to use vinyl contact paper to make little cutout shapes (just like the stuff you put in drawers and on shelves when you wanna protect them) Can't wait to try the press n peel on a plate sometime! Seems a lot easier than how we do photo transfers onto plates, with a lot of photosensitive stuff involved. Oh! If you wanna be able to use your etchant for a very long time you shouldn't let different types of metals be in the same container because it'll make your acid really weak with lil particles making weird chemical reactions My professor told me that same thing that a lot of people that use the fish bubbler thing, but they find after a while that their bubbler stops working and their acid doesn't work so well either, probably because there's some metal bits in most of the machines she also told me some people in really high altitudes have a fire/heater going on underneath their acid tanks to make sure it bubbles real good with heat, and they don't have to put their plates in there quite so long because it etches so much faster We don't have anything that fancy in our new studio just yet, but if you dunk your copper in vinegar it'll also clear out the oxidation real fast and you can pop it right back into the acid for about the same effect as dabbing it away
Lavender Rathman: Thank you so much for watching, my man! And thanks also for the feedback/tips! I like reading things like this. I've got PLENTY of room to learn, and you're helping me! I'd never heard of not mixing metals in etchant, but hearing you describe that, it makes total sense. All the best to you in college, my friend! Thanks again for watching and commenting!
@@TheCrafsMan I know this is an old video, but I have two questions that I'd love to get answers for. #1; how did you become so awesome!? I love your content! 2020 has been a crazy year and you help restore my faith in people. #2; requires some preamble. I work in a kitchen, and the knives we have are trash (as far as maintenance and care). I watched the owner throw a $130.00 knife in the trash because it was no longer functional. I took it out and bought some sharpening stones, and after many hours of painful mistakes and practice that knife is now the best one in the kitchen. I want to etch my initials on it, but it's bad for the steel to heat it. Do you have any recommendations for transferring images that don't require heating the metal? If I get a reply I am very grateful, and if I do not I'm still a winner because I have learned some new things in a very enjoyable setting. You rock Crafsman!!
You always hit me right in my phi-bro Nostalgia. lol. Its Berzerk that your OEM Generation 1 Atari works! Thanks for the etching tips. I was expecting some vinegar/salt/9v battery level stuff- but You went and broke out the FeCl3, H202 and HCl ! Whoooooo Weeeeeee! Thanks brother! Always enjoy your show.
SNAP! Jay Pocket throwing some chemistry thangs my way, makin' me duck for cover! LOL! I appreciate you, Jay - always. I'm glad that old Atari still works. Was surprised myself last year or so when we got it out of storage and fired it up. :D
I am genuinely stunned to see that you don’t have more subscribers. I’m no soothsayer but I truly believe that you’re about to have a bit more traffic soon. That video was incredible. Seriously. You’re a prime teacher. Thanks.
I appreciate that! I did mention to "look it up" as well, because I want people to learn more about that. As said, I never throw mine out, but keep adding to it. I have the space to do that. But some people may want to actually dispose of it, and this is for them. I hope it helps! Thank you for watching!
;) One day I'm going to do a video of my different Crafsman voices. It depends on the time of day, what I'm doing (relaxed, keyed up) and other factors. Coffee might play into it too. ;)
@TheCrafsMan you've got possibly the smoothest voice I've ever heard. I love watching your videos to help with going to sleep, plus I learned better methods of etching rather than using electric. Thanks, CrafsMan! I hope to watch your work for many years to come.
I recently discovered your channel and I have bing watched almost all of your videos! I love how informative you are and of course I, like everyone else here, love your voice. I was raised in Kentucky so I too love my sweet tea and biscuits with honey. Thanks for all your time and effort that you put into these videos and keep on steady craftin! We love you!
Christiane (very nice name!)... thank you SO much! This kind of comment really warms my heart! My wife and I enjoy reading words like yours more than y'all know. :D
Your organic border that you did with two layers of marker actually looked more organic because of the small areas where it let the etchant through. I thought it looked very nice, but agree that it could have used a little longer in the bath. I absolutely love your videos. Your smooth talkin' and all your references to G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and all the other things I remember from my childhood, are like a big safe blanket tent where the shy little kid I used to be, and the big tattooed guy I am today, can come out together and play , and learn. This crazy world we all live in, is a better place because of you Crafsman. You better believe that we gonna keep on SteadyCraftin
Probably the most calming, enjoyable and satisfying DIY channel on RUclips. Love ya stuff Crafsman. Keep em comin. Whenever I'm havin trouble sleepin I like to just put an old video on and just let it play. Got a seriously soothin voice dude.
Crafsman, I could have sworn you did a video like this in the past but when I went back to your video list I couldn't find it. On top of this, the second oldest video I could see there, about transferring photos to metal, after the old weathering wood video, said that it was in response to questions about a previous wood photo transfer episode that I can remember watching but that is now similarly unlisted. Why have you gotten rid of these great videos? They mightn't be as professional as your more recent content, but I would consider them much loved videos, especially to early subscribers such as myself. Please relist them because they are part of your channel's history and a testament to how far you have come.
That's a good question! Actually, I didn't delete them, but simply made them "Unlisted". The reason for that: I've made videos about each topic, using easier techniques. I didn't want someone to sit through the Paper Rub-Off video, for example, and then be like "SNAP! I could have done this transfer with label release paper, and still had time to get to Fred's before they closed!" While I do receive money from RUclips for ads being played on my video, I'd rather someone get good information from ONE video, than to have to watch multiple ones to get the best info. :)
I can understand this, however, since RUclips does allow you to change videos' thumbnails, you could possibly superimpose a label onto their existing thumbnails saying "Old" or something and that way we'd be able to binge on your content and new viewers would still be able to get the most updated content. Alternatively, you could make a playlist of unlisted videos only accessible through the playlists tab.
@@TheCrafsMan well, if the subscribers can convince you to relist, maybe you can edit the description or something stating a steadier version is available. :)
If you would pretty please make your videos ALSO available to be purchased through your Etsy or direct from your workshop, we wouldn't have to worry about our favorite videos gong unlisted... Sometimes it isn't the technical content that makes a video a favorite... It is the CrafsMan-isms and the 'oh-snap!' gems! I can see it on the horizon.... The CrafsMan SteadyCraftin', Volume 1. ( Merry Christmas to US...???)
I really love your videos. Slow, steady. easy. You make anyone feel empowered to make things... not just junk glued together, but impressive creative gifts and handy items. I learn so much from you. Thank you !
another thing you could do for hand made designs is paint the whole thing with nail polish, then use an awl or scratcher or a small screwdriver or even just somethin like a nail to scratch off the paint and draw you a little design all of your own :)
Whoever cares my recipe for a happy day is a Craftsman video, a bob ross episode, and some tiger king memes. I have so much love for the craftsman channel! Is there fan merch? Thank you for your amazing ASMR type of relaxation and educational content! I love you craftsman! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just now noticed the etched personalized fork(?) handle in the video cover photo! Great idea to personalized tableware!!!! I can also think of lots of great 'sayings' for spoon and fork handles (Cereal Killer, Gimmie Sugar, Not before Coffee, Cut me some slack, etc) ... and knives! I know folks have been stamping on, painting on, writing on flatware to use as hooks, drawer pulls, plant markers and such for awhile, but etching on them takes it to another level entirely! Thanks again fir the nudges of inspiration! Another great use for the shoeboxes full of tableware I have collected to use with the ring bender tool! (Love the ring bender, by the way. Thank you!)
Listen at these great ideas! :D ALL kinds of things you can do, just with silverware alone. Thanks for watching, and for taking time to leave this comment. :) I agree... etching just elevates it beyond what you can do with stamping and painting. Hard to erase something that's been etched. ;)
Dude, I was about to go to sleep and I got a notification that the Crafsman uploaded a video! Went to sleep 20 min later....... hope I'll wake up for work on time. Exelent video Crafsman!
The Craftsman... Steady making the Rona isolations into the funnest of situations! 🤩 🤗 🤩 You are making the crushing boredom and intensely restrictive isolation of this apocalyptic pandemic into the most enjoyable time I’ve had in years! I am so glad that I’ve found you Craftsman. I don’t know how we would have gotten through another day without you and your videos. Infinite thanks to you Craftsman, for providing entertainment, for teaching the crafts and for being generally amazing in every possible way! 🙏🏻🎉🎶✂️🙏🏻
“Might don’t use one from 1952!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You’re the best crafsman! This was a really cool tutorial! I learned some new stuff! Thanks for sharing. We need some steady craftin magnets up in the Etsy shop!
CRAFTMAN, LOVE THAT YOU'RE NOT AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT WITH UNKNOWN PROCESSES. "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU DONT KNOW"! I'M NOT ARTISTICALLY INCLINED. AT ALL. NEVER EVEN HEARD OF YOUR SPOT HNTIL 01/APRIL/21 ,INSTANT SUB!! EXCELLENT SCOPE OF PROJECTS AND PROCESSES!!
I have a larger container that I pour the smaller ones into. The metal sludge settles at the bottom. I'll gently pour out the stuff on top into a smaller etching container and keep using it.
Crafsman! That was very "etch-ucational"! Tonight, my wife and I made some vinyl stencils with her Silhouette Cameo along with transfer tape, then used Armour Etch to etch some glass goblets. The glasses look really good. Then I came across your video on metal etching. You've given me some great ideas! Steady Craftin!
Hello there! :D Glad y'all enjoyed this. I may eventually do a video about glass etching too, to kinda round things out. Sounds like y'all are having fun! Thanks for watching!
What a treat! I wasn't expecting another video for almost another week! Some folks use a laminator set to high to transfer their print to their metal, provided the metal is thin enough. Most run it through, sandwiched between a folded piece of paper, 8 to 10 times. You wondered what folks might think you look like in one of your replies... I think you look like Darius Rucker! Love to hear him sing 'Beautiful Baby'... that song always brings my daughter to mind!
Great idea on the laminator, Kay! :) I've thought about asking people to sketch their Crafsman photos on Facebook or something, but decided that might be a little strange of a request. LOL! Thank you for watching!
This is such an educational video. I am planning on doing my first etching with Ferric Chloride. Although what I am etching is larger than a tiny piece of metal and its aluminum but it does come apart, I doubt I can completely submerge it. This video was far more informative than others I've seen. Thank you.
This guy knows what’s up! I played yars revenge until my thumbs hurt and I still have no idea what I accomplished. At least in combat and pitfall I knew where I stood. Yars revenge made no sense and yet i persevered, like a true hero.
Sterba70 I wanted dig dug and Popeye but I was poor. I did have asteroids though and it was great. I would get upset when I’d accidentally move my character as it was best (for me) to stay in the center and death blossom all the space rocks. Great, now I Need to find me another 2600.
I have been been watching several various youtube videos for the past week on how to etch like this as I am wanting to learn and master this craft. I have to say that this video is the ultimate best of All Of Them! It's very entertaining with a calm feel to it & I personally like that. You are a very good teacher & I thank you for this video. I now feel reel eager & ready to make all the purchases to include a laser printer also. Thanks so much for a great informative & entertaining video, nice job Craftsman!
Oh Crafsman, your taste is most certainly refined...BERZERK was one of my favorite Atari games. Nothin' sent jibbers through my skin and made me clench my chompers like hittin' a wall during a frantic get away and being audibly and physically stunned by those lights and sounds ... Thanks for the bonus at the end. Honorable mention to "FROSTBITE", I could get that little man jumpin' around so fast it was like he had super powers. Awesome video it's got me ETCHIN' for more!
LOL! Mannn, happy I'm not the only Berzerk fan up in here! Between that and Pitfall... I logged some time on those games. They're my kids' favorites, too! :D
nice channel!! did you ever tried photosensitive ink as a resist? its ultra precise. you can actually use halftone meshs to create smooth edges. like you explained, the closer the dots come together the faster the solved metall mud will stuck between those dots, wich leads to diffrent depths. you can actually round off everything by etching without any resist at all. ferric acid is perfect for that. with this Ink you are also able to create multiple layer etchings. share you knowledge its EPIC
I appreciate the information here, Wavy Gravy! Also, I like your name so much! I'm going to pin your comment so other people can maybe pick up a couple extra techniques, and so people can see "Wavy Gravy". How did you come up with that? If it's personal, you don't have to answer. It's just a phenomenal name.
@@TheCrafsMan :) thanks man, the name is taken from a music compilation ive purchased more or less by accident, loved the artwork and then discoverd these nice tracks mixed with 60s commercials :). Bit trashy but i like it here a link maybe you enjoy it to ruclips.net/video/9SD1GhVo3Hk/видео.html
Hey Kimberly! :D Yes... it's hard to beat that etching. When it's set INTO the metal like that, all that seems to happen next is it just gets prettier as it ages and the patina changes. :)
Great video. Chemistry-, Biology, - Physics, and Maths lessons all-in-one. Thanks for sharing! Can this etching method also be used for brass? I'd like to make a branding iron for my logo.
brass is an alloy of copper, it will react alomst the same as copper during etching. i suggest to use ferric acid+heat up the acid to 20-25 celsius and stir it with a brush, this will decrease the etching time. the longer the etching time is the more the resist become fragile. i guess you will need a lot of depth for a branding iron. in that case keep in mind to thicken up the lines of your design, acid always etches in every direction down and to the sides, lines become thinner after a while. greets
Dude, I sent this to two other guys and I said you’re not gonna believe this, this guy uses a puppet, a dog gone puppet, and it’s one of the best dang videos most interesting that I’ve seen yet, did I mention he uses the dag on puppet

This channel is teaching me that it's ok to make mistakes as long as you stay steady craftaaayn
Oh my! Wasn't expecting the incredible sock puppet, instantaneously smiling and laughing. You just made my day CrafsMan. I rarely ever feel the need to voice my opinion in the comments but damn, your uploads are just too good.
Sure glad you enjoyed it, my friend! Thanks for taking time out to encourage me!
I’ve just watched a re-run of painting legend Bob Ross. You are his crafting child reborn for a new generation. Uncanny! Your voice is sooo soothing.
"CrafsMan, you messed me up!"
No worries, your instructions are very clear! I like your everyday examples, like "don't go eat a sandwich" because that is exactly the kind of mistake I would make.
:) Glad you enjoyed it, my friend!
You’re the literal best, craftsman
Oh mercy - too kind! Thank you!
I have no projects at all that would require any metal etching whatsoever. But I'm watching this video just because I like listening to this man instruct me on various procedures.
That ATARI logo you made is CLEAN!
Thanks, Joe! I'm going to try electro-etching soon! :D I sure appreciate the encouraging words.
im just here to listen to Crafsman talk. I can't get enough.
I don't know who you are, but you make the best videos on YT!!! You are awesome! Thank you for so much enjoyable learning.
Crafsman! Your channel is awesome in it's range. Your Crafs Fu is strong.
Thank you, Joel! I've been practicing my board-breaking and ironing my... kimono? What do they call the karate uniform? The "dojo" is the place. But the... outfit deal. I know there's a name for it.
Suit.
Karate suit.
@@TheCrafsMan I think its a gi, but honestly, that's just movie knowledge. Keep on doing your thing cause it's awesome.
@TheCrafsMan SteadyCraftin THANK YOU. I have been searching for a solid week on a good way to get started with a scalable, DIY way to make enamel pins at home and here it is!
Chris, I'm really happy to hear this! :D I hope you have fun with it!
Already! And 20 Minutes?! Perfect for the end of a Monday.
Peter Ernest Go Pats!
:D Thank you for watching!
Let me be one more human being to sing your praises! You are so awesome. You crack me up yet inspire me. So happy to have found your channel. Sending love and light from Sedona!
I truly appreciate that! It's encouraging to me, more than you may know. :)
We call this method of etching an "open bite" because of all the open surface getting eaten away, and we like to use vinyl contact paper to make little cutout shapes (just like the stuff you put in drawers and on shelves when you wanna protect them)
Can't wait to try the press n peel on a plate sometime! Seems a lot easier than how we do photo transfers onto plates, with a lot of photosensitive stuff involved.
Oh! If you wanna be able to use your etchant for a very long time you shouldn't let different types of metals be in the same container because it'll make your acid really weak with lil particles making weird chemical reactions
My professor told me that same thing that a lot of people that use the fish bubbler thing, but they find after a while that their bubbler stops working and their acid doesn't work so well either, probably because there's some metal bits in most of the machines
she also told me some people in really high altitudes have a fire/heater going on underneath their acid tanks to make sure it bubbles real good with heat, and they don't have to put their plates in there quite so long because it etches so much faster
We don't have anything that fancy in our new studio just yet, but if you dunk your copper in vinegar it'll also clear out the oxidation real fast and you can pop it right back into the acid for about the same effect as dabbing it away
I just want you to know you made my day and I said a prayer for you and your family! You're AWESOMESAUCE 🎉

This is not what I was looking for, but I got into it and couldn't stop watching. I enjoyed your vid man.
Thanks.
Thank you so much for that, my friend! Glad you found my channel, and hope you continue to hang out! Many thanks!
The Bob Ross of craftin.
Glad you went over how to dispose properly. Never see other people telling you how to dispose of etching acids.
I appreciate that! I did mention to "look it up" as well, because I want people to learn more about that. As said, I never throw mine out, but keep adding to it. I have the space to do that. But some people may want to actually dispose of it, and this is for them. I hope it helps! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for mentioning the responsible disposal of the acids. Love your vids 👍

One part where I'm showing y'all the label release paper... I laugh because I sound different there than in the rest of the video.
@TheCrafsMan you've got possibly the smoothest voice I've ever heard. I love watching your videos to help with going to sleep, plus I learned better methods of etching rather than using electric. Thanks, CrafsMan! I hope to watch your work for many years to come.

You’re my favorite youtuber! Your voice is like modern day bob ross! But more eclectic with you projects... love them All!!!
Almost like Bob ross, thanks for the video
Your organic border that you did with two layers of marker actually looked more organic because of the small areas where it let the etchant through. I thought it looked very nice, but agree that it could have used a little longer in the bath. I absolutely love your videos. Your smooth talkin' and all your references to G.I. Joe, Thundercats, and all the other things I remember from my childhood, are like a big safe blanket tent where the shy little kid I used to be, and the big tattooed guy I am today, can come out together and play , and learn.
Yes, please. I sure hope you only made them private and can republicize them, so as not to lose the comments
That's a good question! Actually, I didn't delete them, but simply made them "Unlisted". The reason for that: I've made videos about each topic, using easier techniques. I didn't want someone to sit through the Paper Rub-Off video, for example, and then be like "SNAP! I could have done this transfer with label release paper, and still had time to get to Fred's before they closed!"
While I do receive money from RUclips for ads being played on my video, I'd rather someone get good information from ONE video, than to have to watch multiple ones to get the best info.
That's a GREAT idea! Much easier than trying to paint the negative spaces!
Yay a new video! The best part of my day! I'm not ashamed
That makes me feel special. Thank you!

You never throw out the ferric chloride? What do you do with the spent etchant?
I have a larger container that I pour the smaller ones into. The metal sludge settles at the bottom. I'll gently pour out the stuff on top into a smaller etching container and keep using it.
That voice...silky smooth...chill, man... I could listen all day!
Are we gonna get a petina video?! I think that's the most beautiful thing especially with etched material

I've thought about asking people to sketch their Crafsman photos on Facebook or something, but decided that might be a little strange of a request. LOL!

This is such an educational video. I am planning on doing my first etching with Ferric Chloride. Although what I am etching is larger than a tiny piece of metal and its aluminum but it does come apart, I doubt I can completely submerge it. This video was far more informative than others I've seen. Thank you.

Thanks for the bonus at the end. Honorable mention to "FROSTBITE", I could get that little man jumpin' around so fast it was like he had super powers. Awesome video it's got me ETCHIN' for more!

Hey crafsman, can you show me how to carve things out of rock? Like little figures or even just simple shapes to polish up?
That would be a fun challenge! Thank you for asking!
Great video, thank you. You are the Bob Ross a Patrick.
nice channel!!
did you ever tried photosensitive ink as a resist?
its ultra precise.
you can actually use halftone meshs to create smooth edges.
like you explained, the closer the dots come together the faster the solved metall mud will stuck between those dots, wich leads to diffrent depths.
you can actually round off everything by etching without any resist at all.
ferric acid is perfect for that.
with this Ink you are also able to create multiple layer etchings.
share you knowledge its EPIC
I appreciate the information here, Wavy Gravy! Also, I like your name so much!
I'm going to pin your comment so other people can maybe pick up a couple extra techniques, and so people can see "Wavy Gravy". How did you come up with that? If it's personal, you don't have to answer. It's just a phenomenal name.

Mighty kind of you! Thank you so much!
Great video. Chemistry-, Biology, - Physics, and Maths lessons all-in-one. Thanks for sharing!
Can this etching method also be used for brass? I'd like to make a branding iron for my logo.
Hello, Hans de Groot! :D I've heard that it can, but have yet to try it.
Yes it can! Mymechanics does it in his video on the micrometer tool. That's how I got here to see if it works on other metals
brass is an alloy of copper, it will react alomst the same as copper during etching.
i suggest to use ferric acid+heat up the acid to 20-25 celsius and stir it with a brush, this will decrease the etching time.
the longer the etching time is the more the resist become fragile.
i guess you will need a lot of depth for a branding iron.
in that case keep in mind to thicken up the lines of your design, acid always etches in every direction down and to the sides, lines become thinner after a while.
greets
