As a swimmer myself, I will say there have been many times I’ve walked over to a guy I swam against to congratulate him, breaking a personal best is a big think in swim, like a big thing. And it always makes someone’s day! ❤
I was lucky enough to meet him a few years back since he was visiting my old team. My man is super humble and made a lot of us younger swimmers wayyyyy more confident in ourselves and was really understanding. He even jokingly (I think) yelled at our coach for a set he had us do (I think I was 13 at the time) that set being 5000 yards every third 25 butterfly. That made us feel really good since the coach made him do the same set without the fly, everyone was like “we work harder than Caleb Dressell!”
I remember an even more impressive feat from dressed. Everyone was so hype over his sprint free an butterfly performances, but when he swam at SEC championships, he swam off events since he already had lNCAA qualifying times for every one of main events, so he swam the 100yard breaststroke and broke the American record. For any foreigners who don’t know: Americans typically swim short course yards (25y per length) during winter, so most of the swim season including collegiate and long course meters (Olympic, 50m per length) during the summer, so American records are only different from world records because they are in yards
They should just call American records in short course yards world records in short course yards. Caeleb holds the world record in then 100 scy breaststroke
I met him a few years back at a TYR swim pro series, and he just seems to have a great time the whole time he is competing. During a commercial break sweet Caroline was playing, and he was behind the blocks warming up but also dancing to the song at the same time period and he always celebrates/congratulates his competitors.
Well most swimmers even Olympians don’t get paid much, they do it for the love of the game They aren’t really competing with each other, more like the WR time

I see people say that Ai Mori isn't impressive just because she's light and she's not lifting much weight, which is bs because she has less muscle as a result. I would say skateboarders have a more positive and encouraging community
As a swimmer, celebrating for competitors and their PRs is pretty commonplace, but to see that it happens outside of low league swims, especially in the Olympics is an eye opener for sure.

@@keirajohnson3688 yes maybe you are taught that, that isn’t very viable though because one this is fly, not freestyle, two it’s a 100. A 50 you’ll see people swim no breath decently common at high level. 100 is a lot more challenging to go without much breathing because your legs can give out
I used to run competitive track and cross country in college and if the person who beat me in a race came over to congratulate me on a PR, I'd feel amazing. I'd already be going through losing and the camaraderie from that gesture would be a nice pick-me-up
He had a terrible turn (even Rowdy Gaines, the commentator of this race, said the same thing), and I believe if he had a better turn, he would’ve been in the 49 flat-49.2 range, if not a sub 49

Swimming is the best sport in terms of working most of your body at all times. I was a competitive swimmer until I was 18 and spent 40 hours a week in the pool. And out of the pool exercising about 10 hrs a week. I could watch races all day and still want more. My body fat % was as low as 9%. Damn I miss it!! Glad I found the channel!!! Thanks for posting this kinda content!! ❤❤ Edit: I only stayed so short of a time bc I wanted a life and so on for the first time. I was pretty good. And could’ve been better. But as I hit my 18th birthday, I decided I didn’t want to continue. And then after 1.5-2 years I realized I made a hue mistake. I spent hours plus in the gym and training in lakes and “outdoor” or “dry land” training was sooo expected. I’m going to get back into lane swimming etc. M

The 100 fly is both my favorite event to swim, and my favorite event to watch. I always find myself entranced by the technique of the fastest heats of the men’s 100 fly.
This is why I LOVE SWIMMING! The sportsmanship in swimming is on a different level than any other sport. It is the tradition and culture of swimming that made me commit 16 years of my 22 year life to the sport. Especially once you get to high level swimming like in college. And not the petty swimming of the high schoolers who do not show this kind of humility. It’s a sport we all know sucks. But we love it. Almost like masochist. It’s the one sport that is purely mental during practice.
Im Hungarian and i have been a long suporter for milák Kristóf so i was really happy for the personal best time and the fact that caleb was this respectfull to him made me even happier
My world studies teacher back in high school was the schools water polo coach for the boys. He told us that he would condition his team by doing butterfly strokes, that they were one of the toughest exercises they would perform. Olympic Swimmers have my respect 😮🎉
I love these types of videos, it reminds me of Sectetariat and Sham (horse racing) Sham was an incredible horse that was better than basically all other horses except secretariat and just happened to be the same age.
I think swimming has some of the best camaraderie out of any sport. The pro swimmers, while fierce competitors, are also all friends. Most train together, work with the same coaches, and they see each other many times a year at different swimming events.
Was a lifeguard at a pool caleb dressel swam at during a big swim meet and got to meet him. Super cool dude and very humble despite clearing the competition there
