- North Carolina State Senior Owen Lloyd posted the fastest time in the Men's 1650-yard Freestyle, earning him the ACC Title, an automatic entry to the National Championships, and a new best time. Moments later, an announcement was made that Lloyd had been disqualified for "interference with another swimmer."
The rule(s) at play from the NCAA rulebook:
- Rule 2, Section 5, Article 1a: "Any competitor who interferes with another swimmer during a race shall be disqualified from that race, subject to the discretion of the referee..."
- Rule 2, Section 5, Article 1b: "A swimmer who changes lanes during a heat shall be disqualified."

Except like 50x worse.
Also, Jesus Christ loves you! He is the only way to heaven. May God bless you! 😊
This literally happened to me moments after finishing a test in high school. We were instructed not to talk, and I had forgotten that and commented to my neighbor “that wasn’t so bad.” The teacher gave us both 0s. I had to plead with the teacher to at least excuse my neighbor as it wasn’t her fault that I had leaned over to make the comment. It worked, but I still got the 0.
@@petelancaster6715 The teacher was right. Answering the comment: yes, if you are doing an important test and not only you're not allowed to talk after finishing the test (not at least until everybody else has finished aswell, or the time limit has runed out) but it's explicitly in the rules that you will be disqualified as punishment if that happens, in that case if you break the rules the only one you can blame is yourself.

Rules are rules. I break them all the time and learn the hard way. Bro did the same and has no one to blame but himself. Even his friend knew the rule and why he got disqualified, so he should have set aside his ego from his victory and waited a little. I mean, he already had it secured; he should've waited a few more minutes before celebrating with the money dance outside the water. I myself was confused why he jumped into the floating devices and then into the other diver's lane. For a second, I thought the other diver tried to push him away, but I guess they were friends. Either way, they are trained on the rules, and if they choose to ignore or forget them, then it's on them, not on the judges who enforce the rules. He definitely won fair and square. However, breaking a rule means disqualification is valid. I'm glad at least some rules are enforced in the sports industry.

This sort of stupid technicality is what happens when idiots judge by the letter of the rule, rather than the spirit of the rule. The NCAA should have gotten involved and corrected that. His harmless celebration is NOT what that rule was put in place to prevent. A complete injustice.
The referee used two rules and only one makes some sense, basically one states that you can’t interfere with other swimmers which doesn’t apply in this case. And rule 2 states you can’t switch lanes in a race which was an extremely vague rule since they both finished and hence stopped participating in the heat. Only one of these rules are discretionary meaning it’s up to the referee’s judgement to implement it, this being the interference rule. The other rule is fixed meaning it isn’t circumstantial and is applied no matter what which is a big problem with this sport.

This was literally one of those moments where an official is free to interpret a rule as they personally see fit. The rule exists to prevent any interference of another swimmer before the race is finished. 0 swimmers were interfered with. The official is an asshole. Honestly I think the crowd should have gone on riot.
And on top of that consider the following. Some nasty competitor deliberately takes an hour to complete the heat so noone can exit the pool or they are disqualified. To all the blind sheep reciting "rules are rules", I guess you did not think of that.
Nah, it was more so the rules being shit to begin with.
