This World Record Should've Fallen By Now
United States swimmer & Olympic Gold medalist Ryan Lochte set the World Record in the Men's 200m IM way back at the 2011 World Championships in 1:54.00.
Over 13 years later, that record still stands despite the many talented swimmers who contest this event every year. After 4 Olympics and 7 World Championships, 1:54 is still the standard of excellence in this event leaving just one simple question I ponder in this video... how?

On July 28th, 2011, Michael Phelps & Ryan Lochte faced off for the World Title in the 200m IM in one of the fastest races ever. The end result caused both a power shift in their personal rivalry and put an end to a long drought of human improvement. bruh I get it, genuinely, but 1 the rule isn't stupid, because any amount of splash can cause turbulence in the water that could affect swimmers - even ones who are far away. but 2, do you think HE did colonization??? like, yes, if he was behaving in a way that was racially motivated and racist, then yes, absolutely, but bro was literally just swimming. what are you even mad about.

Some people there really need to remove some sticks from their rectums, as rude as this sounds, a rule is always a matter of interpretation. There would be no ref at all if it was otherwise, and clearly this interpretation of the rule was quite literal, yet undoubtedly not necessary. They could have given him a warning, but a disqualification is ridiculous.

Secondly, those damn fat judges had not probably touched even the smell of water ever. So a if a swimmer can decide when another swimmer "is done" that means all they can just go into any lane and block another swimmer, and it is "ok" because eventhough they did not reach the end a swimmer can decide for another swimmer "they are done"?

Alternatively, as a "observer" (ie you and me) can we decide when a race is done or when a swimmer is done ? I think you are missing the point, that the officials are the ones who measure time and decide when a swimmer / race is done or not. Say the guy entered a lane where the swimmer was actually NOT done (an was racing for 3rd place)... then what? Do we say "too bad" first place guy was done, and not our problem you missed out on third". The point is you have to stay in your lane and cannot stop other swimmers, and that the officials are the ones who decide when the all swimmers are done and the race is over.

This is an absolute joke. Dude won by a mile and if he already WON BY A MILE, there is no way to interfere with another swimmer in order to win! The other swimmers already lost when his fingertips touched the wall so anything he did after that wouldn't matter. Wouldn't matter if it was by .001 seconds of 10 seconds. And that it was a teammate... that's just stupid, exactly like dude said in the interview. GOOD FOR HIM. @#$ the fat judges. This is why stupid people always get to positions of power. They are ambitious and rules are there for a REASON and none of those reasons had ANY effect in this particular case.
