  • In this episode we will be smashing out walls in readiness for the new timber stud walls to allow us to reconfigure the kitchen area. I will be talking you through some do's and dont's when removing brick walls and trying to help you recognise when they are load bearing.

    Well fellas went back to the beginning of your channel and have started to binge watch. Always a pleasure to see how it all began and how nervous you all seemed, didn't take long for that to wear off and the humour to kick in. I love watching the problem solving, the skills on display and the technical explanations, it's always a real pleasure to watch the professionals at work.....and who care! All the very best.

    Video is too short! Great viewing this week as always. House will look brilliant when plastered and kitchen units in.
    One very clean building site!! I can now see why you kept the soup cupboard under the stair case. With the walls down theirs enough open floor space.

    Loving watching the demolition as well as the repairs. Building regs suggest a complete perimeter of board adhesive when boarding any outer walls of a property to stop air movement or ingress. Dots are fine on internal walls though. Cheers Matt and Rich, keep them coming pls.

    Another interesting and informative video. As well as the naff structural shenanigans, I'm sure there will be a few Sparkys triggered by the wiring bodges? 😮

    We've had multiple opportunities to see Matt's top notch plastering. It's so top notch that I'm surprised to see him do anything else. What's the story, Matt? Are there no plastering jobs at the mo, is variety the spice of life, or should I just mind my own business?

      Hi ya mate sorry for the late reply but it’s getting more and more difficult to try to reply to all comments. On behalf of Matt he decided before the start of the job we had the sack from to join us full time as he does indeed enjoy the variety and therefore like the rest of the team enjoys doing his own trade when the time comes as he’s seen it from the start and also gets to see it finished. 👍🏻

    great stuff Rich...... builders are just starting our house extension ...so external brickwork at side is going to become internal rooms. can that be just strapped and then plaster boarded / dot and dab ??......does the brickwork have to be treated with anything before this starts ??? love your channel. where's mick ??

    A bit off topic…I’ve been watching your renovation of your own home series. What a great job. I was just wondering, we are about to start renovating our house. We aren’t extending but all the woodwork (skirtings/door frames/etc) are all really tired and we want the whole house replastered. Would you recommend taking the walls back to block work (it’s a 24yr old house) and then start afresh with new plasterboard etc rather than just skimming over the current plaster?

    love this! cant wait for you to do the insulation part as i have some damp issues that need to be sorted on a solid wall construction. I have emailed you for advice as i trust it unlike others.

    We have had an extension built years ago in conjunction with the neighbours. There is no insulation between the party wall. When I questioned it, I was told that it is done because of sound passing thorough. Is that correct?

    Great video as always. Why are they having a corridor (which is dead space) could they just stick a door in the corner and go straight in to the utility room? Love the video lads

    • @mrabuilders6723
      @mrabuilders6723  4 месяца назад

      They wanted a walk way to the back door so they didn’t have to walk through the kitchen. Understandable I suppose and the kitchen and utility are more than big enough 👍🏻

    Pretty sure with asbestos, the cement based one you don't need a license to take it out , but then you need a company that can dispose of it , there is someone on Facebook that does it , the job we did an old barn roof , they did get it tested tho first to make sure it was the less harmful asbestos, then we just stacked the sheets ready for them to collect

    • @catabaticanabatic3800
      @catabaticanabatic3800 4 месяца назад

      A bit of misunderstanding with various terms here regarding the dangers of asbestos. Effectively, there is no form of asbestos that is in any way safe. It is best if you treat all forms of it as totally lethal- which ,in effect, it is. The lethal "dose" or amount can be as little as one single fibre. I would far rather remove any sheet asbestos from my own property as I'd know that it was done correctly and the site left completely free on completion. Removal of ancient pipe lagging etc., from commercial/industrial sites is a whole different kettle of fish and requires certain work methods and equipment that is not available to the average punter.

    Again no noggins stiffening the joist in the 1980s extension. Probably nneded 2 sets for joists that shallow.

    • @mrabuilders6723

      My answer to that would be a lack of skill set in trades people nowadays, it’s too messy and takes too long. Everyone is in too much of a rush but time is money and all that 🤷👍🏻
