  • In this episode I will erect the new stud walls, install vapour barrier and cover with plywood. Completing this stage of the job allows me to get it all boarded and plaster so we can measure for the new kitchen.

Great to see the video has reached a good 40 minutes plus! These videos are too good to be shorter than 40 minutes.
I’m sure the customer who own the house is delighted to see such Top Quality in every single stage of the build!!
I’m sure a TV company could offer this as a house renovation program for all TV viewers to watch?! Can’t wait for next Sundays video!

Hi lads have just watched all the vids on the building of the big garden room at THAT house.....if only I had the room! As always a joy to watch. Now Rich, or Mr Wood the chippie, 'Noggins' now THE buzz word in this house. Tolkien was a Birmingham boy how did he miss out on Noggin the Hobbit, or Noggin the Dwarf, what a great word. On to following the next build from start to finish, cheers, from a ham-fisted amateur.

Need to really sort the damp problem from the other side, tanking will just push the moisture else where.
Previous owner did DPD injections and some tanking in our house and it did sod all, the solve was to remove the concrete floor and replace back with suspended timber and sort the drainage around the house.

An asphalt floor screed would work well in this instance. Thickness can be very flexible to suit situation plus it will act as a damp proof membrane.

I know there is always a thousands ways to do things 😉, but I don't understand why you care if the sole plate is level.
I just laser line top & bottom plates & fix them & then just hold studs up & pencil mark the length don't even need to measure them. Floor & ceiling can be up & down like a whores knickers & every stud is always the right length & no tape measure needed 😊
I totally agree about folding wedges being way better especially when what you're wedging off is out of twist. When you got table saw setup spend half hour to make a load of wedges out of scraps & you will not regret it.
I have convinced a couple of builders I do the chippy work for to OSB the stud walls in Kitchens & Home Offices now as well so no matter what goes on the walls afterwards there will be a fixing.
But enjoying this series, keep it up guys.

It’s only the way I like to do it mate. I like to level the plate and make a complete wall up. Our ways both work perfect and achieve the same result. Have you seen the table saw sled that Perkins Builder Brothers made on their channel? Very simple and quick to remake more wedges. Enjoy your week at work mate hopefully catch you next week. 👍🏻

Haha yeah I watch Perkins Builder Brothers & saw the shim-master 2000 LOL
I made a similar jig a couple of years ago, I had another jig years ago (35yrs maybe) that we made in College when I did my City & Guilds which was a bit safer but not as versatile as the Perkins one.

Do you prefer to use a VCL rather than foiled back plasterboard, is the cost of it work out cheaper. I watched Adam's house and I know he used it on all the walls but I personally have never seen this practice before.
