Thank you so much for making this video! I found the exact same magnets at O'Reilly Auto Parts and this fixed my brake lights staying on. This saved me a ton of money on parts, a possible ticket, and even potentially from getting rear-ended.
Thanks, Marlon, for posting this "how to" video. It helped me immensely in understanding how to solve the issue of my brake lights being stuck on. I was about to buy a brake light switch until I saw your video. I solved my issue a little differently by using a small "plastic panel push pin" instead of the magnet. Nonetheless, you got me headed in the right direction, thanks.
That was totally the issue. Why in the world did the engineers design something this ridiculous, and a little plastic stopper would cause this much headache. Thanks again, Marlon.
Just walked out of my office, brake lights are stuck on, on my F-250. The yellow plastic fragments were laying in the floor of my truck exactly like in your video. I am headed to Home Depot to buy the magnets. THANK YOU!!!
This video is a 10/10. Internet hall of fame. Thank you my man for saving who knows how much headache and money at the dealership. My 2015 F-250 had this exact problem. A magnet sacrificed from the kitchen fridge saved the day, and my batteries!
Took me a bit to see where you were referring too, but I found the little half a piece of plastic on my floorboard, couldn’t find a magnet, so I got a little plastic washer the size of the one that fell off, super glue and bam! Brakes lights went off, now, I have read the blue switch is a safety switch and could affect the performance of your vehicle. Mine bogged down like it lost power so I guess I’ll eventually have to replace the blue part, but it’s like $60 so we will let it ride for now. Excellent idea, Screw the stealership as they want $300 to fix it. .05 cent washer and $2 super glue and seems good to go. Thank you kind sir
Thank you man! I was wondering why my brake lights wouldn’t go off. Saw a piece of plastic on the floor and thought it was trash. RUclipsd this and found the magnet at Home Depot.
Thanks a million for posting this video. Went out to the truck and the pieces were on the floor sure enough. Already had some magnets in the shop and that fixed the problem. Took less time than watching the video and saved me hours of trouble shooting. Right on.
Ok, hubby & I figured out where you indicated we should place the magnet and now we're cruising down the Tamiami Highway without a problem. Thank you sir for figuring this out and then for sharing your fix❣️
You are a blessing from God I found this and wonder what is was and my lights would not turn off I had to take my battery connection off then I found your video my husband works off and your video was simple enough for me to fix my truck God bless and return 10 fold to you sir!!!
Thank you very much for sharing this-this is incredibly helpful. Went and bought the magnets after I saw this video. Took me a few seconds to install works like a charm. Thank you for saving me time and money from the dealership
My dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Service advanced trac, check brake system, check emergency brake… all in the middle of a 1000m+ road trip. Just found the little bumper on my floor. Hope this fixes it!
It flipping works!!! I had the silicone spacer on my mat. Sure as hell my brake lights were on. I have a 2014 f350, one owner, me. This happened today 7-9-2024.
Great info! Just happened to me yesterday, everything else I read said the switch was most likely bad. When going to look at the switch I found the rubber stopper laying on the floorboard, just the clip part of it had broken so I was able to super glue the rubber button back on.
Thanks bro you just saved me a big headache and I did use a magnet that I pried off the back of a flashlight until I can get down there and get the right ones but that did work have a great day and thank you for this video
This was Guinness I used this after the stopper fell out while changing the switch, luckily I heard the tutorial Pryor to starting, it was the real problem and not the switch, thanx u
Thank you!!! You just saved me a ton $$$. After viewing your video I went back to the truck and low and behold the gasket was on the floor board. Magnets are working!
You are a genius. I spent over $60 on a brake pedal switch, light bulbs, and fuses trying to track this down. I laughed when I saw that broken plastic piece on your floor, because that's exactly what happened with mine! Thanks for sharing.
I just experienced this today. I found your video and fixed the truck in about five minutes. You sir, are the best! I truly appreciate you taking the time to do the video.
Thank you for this vid. The same thing just happened to my 2015. Was thinking it would be a switch replacement until I saw this. Not knowing there needs to be a plastic pad in that hole replacing the switch would have been a waste of time and money. $6 and 5 mins later, I'm back in business.
1000% thank you! I'd love to say you saved me some money but I bought two aftermarket and one OEM brake switch before realizng this was all it was. And of course the OEM one (most expensive) has a zero return policy. None-the-less, I appreciate the video man. Appreciate you for making it. Thank you.
Wow - best tip for my truck so far - came home after work and my brake lights we on when I shut down the F250. Found your video, looked on the floorboard, sure enough - there was a plastic disc that fell out of place. Used a magnet. Viola!
My Brother, noticed this tonight on my F350 and Man bro your solution worked like a charm, I had a perfect magnet for this! Genius, thanks for saving me as well as all these folks!
DUDE ! You are a freaking genius ! After my little plastic piece had broken off not only did the brake lights stay on but it would not accelerate at freeway speeds because it thought the brakes were on . Wouldn’t let cruise control work either . I was thinking I would have to do all sorts of work in it but this simple fix for about $10 bucks solved ALL the problems !!! Thank You !!!
I own a 2015 I’ve done pads calipers and roters and pads 3x in a year and half and less than 50k miles also break lines on front and fluid flush. Have these same issues you do above will you be randomly driving and it will throw hill decent faults and go trough a bunch of dash codes but disappear once you shut off truck before fixing this?
@@kahlebadams1744I have the same issue, mine is constantly on when I start it, but will intermittently go off for no reason, drive another 50 miles they’ll come back on. My ford mechanic thinks it’s a wire they possibly got chewed by a mouse or rubbed just enough to throw this. He said the controller (not sure the name) is under the console and a pain to switch. I asked if he could he just disable the hill descent/ABS, he said that was a bridge too far as ford sees everything he does with his cpu. Oh well, when it pops on, I just hit ok twice and keep driving, 190,000 miles so it’ll do
Wish i saw earlier this would totally work. I ended up super gluing a dime to some felt then put some glue on the other side, rolled up a little tape on index finger, stuck the dime side on my finger, depressed pedal and got it in there kept it there for a bit for the glue to cure. Then slow wiggled my finger to get the tape off. We shall see how permanent it is. If it fails this will work lol
Ran across this after pulling the fuses to turn off the brake lights so they wouldn’t kill the battery. Found a magnet, and after very awkwardly sliding the magnet into place it worked! Thanks a lot man. I’m not mechanical at all and while it no doubt took me longer than it did some, the fix worked great.
Thanks a ton! I was about to go buy a brake switch for my 2015 f250 and watched this right before I left. Sure enough, that same piece was laying on my floor mat right where yours is. Your a big help!!!
Many thanks for posting this. My brake lights were stuck on while traveling. Came across your video trying to figure it out. Looked in my floorboard and found the plastic disc there and fixed it with a magnet in we seconds!
Amazing hack! Found the bottom on my floorboard, found your video, bought a magnet and one minute later I was back in business. Thank you for sharing the video!
I came here just to say again - like everyone has - YOU ROCK!!!!! Like others, I was just about to go to the store to buy a switch and do all that and saw this. Looked, and yep - there's that little plastic button in the floorboard. A trip to Home Depot and 3 min in the parking lot and boom - problem solved. Worst part about it was trying to pretzel myself up to get in the floorboard to do it! Thank you so, so much for sharing!!!!!
I'm so sorry. I still cannot figure out where to put this magnet. Could you point to just where this magnet goes? We found the plastic piece on the floor mat as you directed us! Many thanks!!!!
Just noticed my brake lights on in parked 2015 F-250. Checked out forums etc then ran across this video. Had already unhooked batteries for the night. Went out checked floorboard for button and found a fragment just like yours. Will go to Home Depot and get me some of these magnets. I know its going to work. Thanks man you saved me a bunch!
Happened to me yesterday driving home. Got the brakes warning lights, hill decent warning. Found the same little piece on the FM. On the way to Home Depot. Thanks
Thank you. I used the magnet vs the plastic piece. Fixed the problem in less than a mintue and lights are off when parked. Acceleration back to normal. Thanks again
All the rest of the comments say this already: you rock! I had no idea where to start, but sure enough, your video was top result. And the little piece of plastic was on the floor mat. Top marks, my friend.
Works! F150 would not accelerate past 45 mph. Brakes lights stayed on after car was off. Hill assist light came on during startup. Issue was brake switch would not fully depress so truck couldnt tell if brakes were “off/on”. Put $3 magnet in there and fixed the issue. Unbelievable, seemed like the whole truck had a transmission problem but its something stupid like this!
Got the same problem but also Truck will not accelerate. Then service brake light warning nd advance track all come on. I hqve the magnets. Just need to install. Will update when complete.
Anybody know what size magnets to get? Thickness. I used a refrigerator magnet for temporary and it works fine, but cruise control still doesnt work. Im assuming something a lil thicker than the one i have.
I just had the same problem, solved it by using my 3d Printer to print out a bumper but then found your video so ordered some magnets for when the plastic bumper dies. Thanks for the video!
I was in the middle of Arizona and just happened to me. I used a piece of double-sided tape and a penny. I’ll get the magnets when I get back into civilization. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for this video. My husband is having the exact same problem. We have purchased a couple of brand new brake light switch's and neither of them worked, as in no lights would even turn on. But yet, we put the old one back in and the lights turn back on. You are a savior my friend.
Dude- what a great gift . This happened to me and I found the button on the floor mat. I was set to go to buy a mew switch , now I know I couldn’t have. The magnet is a brilliant idea. Going in the morning . Thanks Wayne
I did it and it worked perfectly. It is difficult to get under the dash and the magnet wants to wonder. The first magnet was not thick enough so I went one thicker that had a hole for a screw. I positioned the small side to the plunger and it worked fine. I think I'm going to oil the plunger and maybe it will keep working. Seems like a great hack to save $100+ in service fees from the shop. Thanks for sharing.
Great idea? I'm going to try it. I got home tonight and saw my brake lights were still on. I put something under the pedal for tonight. I found the part number for the bumper, but don't want to spend half a day looking for one.

Friggin brilliant. I had the same problem and found the exact same piece of plastic on my floorboard.
Outstanding video and recommendation. Your solution worked great...step by step..from purchase of the specific magnets from HD. THANK YOU!!!
Was wondering what this was on my floor mat, an identical piece to yours, thank you for sharing this, as mine started yesterday.
Thank you, did mine with your magnets idea. Great video.
This video saved me so much money it’s insane. Thank you so much for posting this.
