The prequels actually provide the backstory I needed to care about what happened in the original trilogy. Before then, it was like "Okay, farm boy in space wants his father back, why do I care?". Frankly, while the visuals in space were cool and all, I just didn't feel any attachment to the events and, for the most part, felt like I was being dropped into a random sequence of events (in space) that had surprisingly sparce and/or uneventful looking areas in many spots that clashed with the 'space'-scenes. Then... the prequels came out. It turned out that Darth Vader was far more important than just being the badass father of a farm boy. Not only that, he was potentially the most powerful force user in his prime, but also a specialist in saber fighting. Not only that, but each of the cities and planets in this world had fleshed-out characteristics and you could say that they seemed so desolate during the OT because of the Empire's rule. Star Wars went from "Random cool-looking space narrative" to "Star Wars's Narrative". Now, if George had delegated more of the writing to a more qualified individual. The nitpicks back then (90s-00s) may not have existed.

I believe that picture of the Merry Prankster’s bus was taken in 1964.
