Was in several orphanages until she found her voice & love of music. You looked like you were about to tear up at the end.

For you, and all those in your audience that may not know, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, during the first season of a new Russian vocal competition called the ShowMaskGoOn. Diana Ankudinova’s cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can't Help Falling In Love, demonstrates what many vocal professionals are saying, Diana Ankudinova has developed into a true contralto voice type. For those that don’t know a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare.
Vocal range helps to define a singer's voice type, and in 2017, at 13, her vocal range measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, which is very good for a 13-year-old girl. Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and that lack kept her out of the more prestigious music academies. Diana, along with her voice teacher decided to concentrate extensively and worked on developing a higher vocal range. In September of 2021, at age 18 during her ShowMaskGoOn performance of Can’t Help Falling In Love, her vocal range was again measured. Now her functional vocal range goes from a low of C3 (male tenor range) to a high of B♭5, which is well within a Mezzo Sopranos range. Diana’s upper range improvement is now on full display for all to hear.
But it's not just how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her voice, plus her ability to access, and use an enormous amount of resonance. The depth and power of her voice further define Diana as a "Dramatic Contralto", the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. A dramatic contralto has the deepest, darkest sound, and is the most powerful contralto voice type. Near the end of this performance, the power of a “dramatic contralto” voice is again on full display.
The question people ask the most is how does Diana do it? How is it possible for such a young female singer to achieve these low, rich, deep, profound sounds? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing these low notes to actually see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness is to simply attribute Diana's ability to her hours of training with her vocal teacher, and winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be longer than most female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity. When combined it's this unique vocal anatomy that gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds, she is known for, but without actually scoping the vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure.
Diana is also a master at using a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing which is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. A singer that has mastered polyphonic singing can create up to two, different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. It is this polyphonic ability when coupled with her ability to access huge amounts of resonance, that is why some people believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation or she is using some kind of pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background off stage, or Diana is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. No artificial manipulation of Diana's voice is happening at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. Other voices and music you are hearing are all backing tracks used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing Can't Help Falling In Love.
During this competition, Diana was the last to perform with her cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love" during "The ShowMaskGoOn!" final week of competition. Diana was competing against other professional singers who also doubled as judges. This new vocal competition was televised over a nine weeks, one episode per week with the other professional singers/judges competing against each other, and based on the individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. When not actively competing herself, Diana was also a member of this judging panel. Every week, each singer took the stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks. Each contestant was required to sing a different song from a different genre using different styles.
The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana's performance, the male judge on the top row who is the first to stand was Yusif Eyvazova, a well-known Russian opera tenor from Azerbaijan who was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this inaugural competition. At the end of Diana's performance, she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is the well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia is dressed in red and looks totally dumbfounded at the end of Diana's performance, puts both hands on top of her head, with a look of total shock and bewilderment. Finally, The Show Must Go On competition concluded with Diana Ankudinova being declared the winner of this new competition!

Diana is just vocal bliss, such an amazing voice. The only other artist I can think of that has a similar voice is Cher, but she was never as good as Diana!

Being a musician all my life I was naturally blown away when I heard Dimash, but while reading reading comments someone said "If Dimash is the Sun, Diana Ankudinova is the Moon. That was a bold statement so I did some research and found out that she was physically abused by her alcoholic mother who left 3 year old Diana at a bus stop in the winter with a broken collarbone and she ended up in an orphanage. A kind woman who worked there adopted Diana who at the time hardly spoke and had speech issues, stuttering, etc. A speech pathologist suggested to give 4 year old singing lessons to help with her speech issues. Diana immediately discovered she loved to sing. I was so taken by her story and her beautiful voice that I had to make a documentary about her musical growth. I will not share that link with you now as you have many reactions to do. What is amazing about Diana is she is a "Contralto", the lowest female voice range and very rare. I know you haven't reacted to her yet and I would suggest you start with her performances at 14 & 15 years old on a Russian talent show "You Are Super" for underprivileged Teens and children. She appeared on 2 seasons and won both seasons. Watch for the expressions on the judges faces during every performance. That was the opening shot in a 9 round competition from 18 yr old Diana. I would go back to 14 year old DA with "Rechenka" then 15, "Wicked Game". "The Crow" from this same competition is stunning but several of her home studio songs are well worth hearing. "Havana" is fun.

Diana's the mirror image of Dimash. He's a countertenor while she's a contralto. Here she's only 18. When she was 15 she blew the judges away with her rendition of Chris Isaak's wicked game and even more with the Russian "Rechenka". I also absolutely adore her theatrical "The Crow".
Way to early to really pin her voice into a box at 18. Think she is more likely going to end up being a mezzo that can also hit notes in what is the range of a contralto. I know they say she is that, but her voice is still filling out and I'm pretty sure her high in this was around a b5. Not sat at a piano to check, but honestly I might be tempted to say she is more coloratura mezzo. Can't wait to see how her voice changes as she continues to train it.

Diana Ankudinova is the most stunning vocal talent I have ever come across. I've been following her for about three years now. She's 18 here (19 now) and she's been blowing up the Internet since about age 14. What you watch next depends on whether or not you want to go chronological, if so then her audition of Derniere Danse (age 13/14) is good, then Rechenka (age 14). First one I ever saw was Wicked Game (age 15). For her adult performances I'd also recommend the Crow - but she has a ton of songs, her own and covers, out there to choose from - and they are all amazing. Happy to give you your 1000th thumbs up and welcome tot he journey ;)

Great reaction! Diana is a dramatic contralto. Between the ages of 13 and 17, she participated in a number of talent contests. There are some amazing songs, Wicked Game, Human, Rechenka, Denier Danse and others. She is now 19 (I believe) and a fantastic singer. Her voice continues to get better. In addition to her deep voice, she sings with polyphonic overtones producing two notes at once.

The story of this girl is INCREDIBLE. She was abandoned as a child and eventually found a foster family. She can yodel with the best, she has one of the deepest darkest female voices but can mesmerize, hypnotize and belt high notes with the best of them. She was making MASTERpieces under the age of 14. I get chills or cry almost every time I hear her sing (even when I have seen the video 10 times).
Derniere Danse - is a song with subtitles as well if you find the right version. Great video
Rechenka- (has no subtitles but masterful singing at age 14) is about an Orphan girls set up married and her asking the river (Rechenka/ the doorway between living and dead/ where her mothers soul is) for advice/wisdom.

There is so much I left out but lastly, Igor also helped the poor and broke Diana with money when he learn of her talent. He paid for housing and coaching and much more help for her. He is an amazing man and coach on some of these shows Diana is on. There are many unique things Diana can do with her voice. She can do something with her larynx that lets her make 2 sounds at once while controlling both.

Hello sweet beautiful girl! In this video, she is 18 years old, and now she will be 20 years old in May. Diana recently participated in the mask show. She was wearing an ermine mask. She skillfully hid her timbre of voice, these bottoms, so that no one would recognize her in a mask until issue 5. Then she began to show her native voice. And she, in addition to the dramatic contralto, showed how she developed her tops. She showed in a mask that she could also hold a whistle note.

Thank you for not continually stopping her performance, as so many reactors wrongly do. So, you did not miss the amazing transition back to her dramatic contralto voice at the end. Great reaction! And, while I am sure you will want to check out more of her recent work, please consider looking back to her first performances in the "You Are Super" competitions, designed for underprivileged and orphaned children. She was 14&15 at that time, and she clearly dominated both events. All 7 of her songs there are noteworthy, and "Dernier Danse", which she repeated after the end of the competitions at age 15, is remarkable. In English, try Human and Wicked Game, but do not pass up the one that literally brought down the house when she was 14: "Rechenka". Sung in Russian, subs are available, but she will give you, as she does everyone, goosebumps. Thanks again!

i highly recommend watching the video the end -- judges comments are in Russian with English subtitles -- these comments are interesting and insightful. ( apart from just one judge claiming that Diana's talents came from the invisible fictional entity in the sky ). Also by Diana -- 'Dernier Danse' - is in French and 'Rechenka' - is in Russian but do not need lyrics to experience the emotions portrayed by Diana.

If you want to listen to Diana sing something that is fun. I recommend that you listen/react to her rendition of the song Havana. She sings the song in English. But it has a definitive Latin beat to it.

Не совсем корректно, уровня Имы Сумак ещё никто не смог достичь. У Дианы генетическая особенность - большая и низко расположенная гортань, что позволяет ей петь в ключе контральт, с мощными обертонами, создающими полифонический эффект. Но техника пения у Дианы оставляет желать лучшего, ей нужен хороший, профессиональный педагог. Сейчас её натаскивают на свистковый диапазон, зачем? Не знаю. Её фишка именно в диапазоне контральт.

Diana has an AMAZING VOCAL RANGE…please review her recent performance on the MASKED SINGER “SWEET DREAMS” which there are clips provided by “KOR” as the episodes are blocked in her COUNTRY as well. She has been performing since she was 5 years old and had vocal lessons as recommended by her physician in order to facilitate her speech. Since then she has provided ORIGINAL SONGS to her fans, attends GITIS UNIVERSITY and performs LIVE in her COUNTRY and others. Diana recently finished performing on the Russian Mask Show. On the first five performances, she disguised her voice so the performances didn’t attract much attention and I didn’t know the show existed. But then with the sixth performance, she ceased the voice disguise and the next morning I knew about it on the other side of the world.

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on RUclips. A year and a half ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of RUclips 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers.
Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English and French. She has also sung in other languages including Spanish, German and Arabic. Singing in French, at the age of 10, on a Russian TV show... a viewer: 'at the age of 5 she couldn't speak her own language, how can one see this and still doubt past lives?'

Это личная точка зрения (и ни кого насильно под свои знамена не зову): эта песня о любви (хотя не зная языка я не понимаю ни слова, просто мне так кажется, я так чувствую)... Так вот, когда эту песню исполняют западные певцы, то они исходят из следующего: любовь - это одно сплошное удовольствие, конфеты, цветы, комплименты, поцелуи... Вообщем все очень сладко, вкусно и мило. Диана дала миру другую версию любви: любовь - это много много боли и совсем немножечко удовольствия. Почему боли? А вам не знакома ситуация: вы влюбляетесь в человека, вы по нему буквально сходите с ума (почти в самом прямом смысле). А в ответ этот человек к вам холоден, безразличен, он вас не замечает. И от этого вам больно, очень больно, иногда эта боль из душевной переходит в физическую... На мой взгляд именно об этом поет Диана в своей версии (хотя повторюсь, что на истину в последней инстанции не претендую и мое мнение может быть и ошибочным).
Diana was born to a horrible mother who abused her, tried to drown her, and left her at a bus stop with a broken collarbone in the middle of the Siberian winter. Long story short, she was adopted by a woman who noticed that Diana either didn’t talk or had difficulty talking when she did talk. They used singing as a way to work on her communication issues and found her unique voice and flair for performing. She’s always been a brilliant performer who embodies whatever she’s singing. “Rechenka” and “Wicked Game” are big standards of hers for people to react to.
