Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

Well said. Although there have been some pretty lame attempts to compare her to Cher or Shakira, they don't stick. Diana is a thrill ride in every performance anywhere (e.g.: on a ship - "Putting On the Ritz", in a forest - "В небо", in her room - "Havana", on a street corner - "Там нет меня", etc.). I've never heard her cover any song. She reinvents it. To claim that she "covers" a song would be like saying "Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture covered by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra."

Me (and ShanLib above) talk about the versatility and Diana's ability to convey the emotion of songs in vastly different genres and much more. But Diana's voice alone is very unique in my opinion. There are some similarities between the singers you mentioned, but with Diana I hear a lot more different things beyond that. Diana's an acquired taste. I wasn't sure whether I liked her contralto (very rare voice, the lowest voice for a female singer), but by the time I watched "Retchenka", and then "The Crow", holy moly is her voice versatile and her performance incredible! She and Dimash are rewriting the limits of the male and female voice!
Oh, and another thing. I love watching a woman's first reaction to Diana. There seems to be some automatic reflex thing happening when you all grab your throats.
The show "ShowMaskGoOn" was an offshoot of "Mask", the Russian version of "The Masked Singer", hence the punning title. The premise of the show was that 9 established singers (most of whom had appeared on "Mask", although Diana was not one of those) were invited to sing songs in 9 different genres over the 9 week run. The singers then critiqued and marked each other - it was a competition, but, in a very humourous, marginal sense. This was episode #1 - the blond girl, in red, is Julia Parshuta and she sang a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". There was also a different guest judge each week - in this episode it was the opera singer Yusif Eyvazov - the chap who stood up during the performance. Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. (Height: 5'7" / 5'7") She did not have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived... and she abused the child and tried to drown it One day, this 3-year-old girl was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage where she finally found love... by Irina Ponik, a masseuse who treated the children at the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old. Diana had difficulty speaking, cried a lot and was still very frightened, but she could sing cartoon songs. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And it all began... Diana has something primitive, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest type of female voice (her range C3-D6 ). For those in your audience that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!". Diana’s cover of the Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love", shows Diana Ankudinova has developed into what many vocal professionals are saying is a true contralto. For those that don’t know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto voice is very powerful and very, very rare. First, let me answer a pervasive question asked about Diana's vocal range, because vocal range helps in defining a female singer's voice type. At 13 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, 5 years later at age 18, (she is now 19), her lower functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. But, it's not how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's the roundness, fullness, and depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. The big question most people ask is, how does Diana do it? How can such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals simply attributes Diana’s ability to her winning the genetic lottery. She was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than other female singers. Next listen to her cover of Chris Izaak's, "Wicked Game" the following year in 2019 when she was only 15 years old during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova vocally now is just about at a true contralto. Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of “You Are Super”. Just 2 years later, in September of 2021, Diana competed in a new televised vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!” where Diana covered Elvis Presley’s classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. It was during this performance that her vocal range was again measured and her functional range now measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. This new vocal range is what defines her as a “Dramatic Contralto”. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. A singer who has mastered this polyphonic vocal technique can create one, and sometimes two, different tones simultaneously, adding to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. This polyphonic ability is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of electronic voice manipulation or pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice of any kind going on at all. Neither is anyone else singing off stage nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. The “ShowMaskGoOn” is a very competitive vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use only the equipment provided to her as all other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her or any other competitor to use any equipment to electronically manipulate or alter their voice. The other voices you are hearing is just a backing track used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score backing track. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing “Can't Help Falling In Love”. Female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age although some reach it sooner, and others, later. Diana Ankudinova’s vocals are already developed well ahead of schedule in reaching vocal maturity. Some believe she has already reached vocal maturity. I look forward to what Diana will sound like in a few more years and to listening to her voice if it does mature more. If and when that happens, she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage live performance skills. When that day comes, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be more of a vocal force than she is now. She will be a powerhouse to be reckoned with and a wonder to behold on stage. Diana took part in the “ShowMaskGoOn!” vocal competition that spanned 9 weeks and each competitor had to sing a different song in a different genre each week. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that competed against each other and also award judging points to each other. When Diana was not competing, she was a member of this judging panel. During Diana’s performance, the judge on the top row that stands up is the well-known Russian tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan who was a special guest judge for this competition and is married to the world-famous soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana’s performance, she received a standing ovation from all of her competitors. Another judge, Julia Parshuta, who is also a well-known contemporary Russian singer is the blond woman standing in the center row dressed in red. She looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance and puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total bewilderment and disbelief. Julia Parshuta, along with the other judges now knows at some point, she and all the other judges have to compete against Diana, who is a generational talent. Finally, Diana won this competition.
One of the things that make Diana's singing so spooky is her ability to sing more than one note at a time (polyphonic). Also Diana's back story is as unique as her magical larynx. Severely abused as a child, she had to attend speech therapy when adopted, and her therapist recommended singing. Literally, music is her salvation.

Diana is a force of nature! This version of the song brings to mind someone who is being forced into 'love' whether they want it or not. I don't mean in a human physical sense but you hit it right when you mentioned vampires. I imagine this as a cry of despair when Dracula casts his eyes upon you. Great reaction! At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. If you start with only 10 years of the Beatles oh Darling, then a lot. A very interesting singer, there are duets even spontaneous, not prepared. She sings in different genres, a lot of covers, as she is still studying, she does not do many tours.

I saw Diana on RUclips when she was 13 on Voice kids Russia. She performed a yodeling song. I think the yodeling confused the judges and she was rejected. But I was very impressed with her and was hoping she would find another singing competition. She did a year later at age14 and won the shows top prize. That's when Russian's and RUclips started to take notice. Her channel has 1.2 million subs and almost 168 million views.
Definitely my favorite version of this song! Diana, as is Dimash, is a once in a lifetime vocalist. I appreciate different artists for what they bring and how well they bring it. I hate when people compare artists as in , my fav is better than your fav! Why can't we just respect one another's choice? Our ears don't hear things the same and our tastes vary. Stunning! Epic! What a voice! This is a song about the other side of love. Obsessive love. The risk and the pain of love when things go awry. This was a cover of Elvis' song but arranged in the minor key making it darker and more emotional. Diana's music will take you on a different journey than you may be accustomed to. Would recommend her cover of "Wicked Game" or the amazing "Rechenka". Stage production is second to none.

It must be noted that all the judges are singers with experience and they did not refer to Diana because what can an 18-year-old girl do? Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

Most artists can be placed into categories. Then, we can rank them according to who is the best in that category. Diana is one of the few, who don't have any competition. She is the best in her category, because she is the only one who occupies that space. Nobody else does what she does.
Well said. Although there have been some pretty lame attempts to compare her to Cher or Shakira, they don't stick. Diana is a thrill ride in every performance anywhere (e.g.: on a ship - "Putting On the Ritz", in a forest - "В небо", in her room - "Havana", on a street corner - "Там нет меня", etc.). I've never heard her cover any song. She reinvents it. To claim that she "covers" a song would be like saying "Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture covered by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra."

Diana's an acquired taste. I wasn't sure whether I liked her contralto (very rare voice, the lowest voice for a female singer), but by the time I watched "Retchenka", and then "The Crow", holy moly is her voice versatile and her performance incredible! The show "ShowMaskGoOn" was an offshoot of "Mask", the Russian version of "The Masked Singer", hence the punning title. The premise of the show was that 9 established singers (most of whom had appeared on "Mask", although Diana was not one of those) were invited to sing songs in 9 different genres over the 9 week run. The singers then critiqued and marked each other - it was a competition, but, in a very humourous, marginal sense.
This was episode #1 - the blond girl, in red, is Julia Parshuta and she sang a cover of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". There was also a different guest judge each week - in this episode it was the opera singer Yusif Eyvazov - the chap who stood up during the performance. Igor Krutoy, here as a member of the jury, gave her a small apartment (37 m² / 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small apartment she lives with her mother and grandmother, she was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers. 2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student one year earlier than 'normal'. That shows how smart and hardworking she is. She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Welcome to the extraordinary talent and voice of Diana Ankudinova! For those in your audience that don’t know, Diana Ankudinova was only 18 years old when this performance took place during the 2021 season of a Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn!". Diana’s cover of the Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling In Love", shows Diana Ankudinova has developed into what many vocal professionals are saying is a true contralto. For those that don’t know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto voice is very powerful and very, very rare.
First, let me answer a pervasive question asked about Diana's vocal range, because vocal range helps in defining a female singer's voice type. At 13 in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, 5 years later at age 18, (she is now 19), her lower functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. But, it's not how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's the roundness, fullness, and depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
The big question most people ask is, how does Diana do it? How can such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals simply attributes Diana’s ability to her winning the genetic lottery. She was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her vocal track similarly appears to be longer than other female singers. It’s this unique vocal anatomy that gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce these low, deep, rich, full sounds, but without actually scoping Diana’s vocal track there is no way to be 100% sure.
To really appreciate the vocal progression of Diana’s contralto sound, listen to "Rechenka", a Russian folk song sung in Russian for a vocal competition for disadvantaged teens called "You Are Super!" during their 2018 Season when Diana was only 14 years old. You can hear the beginning of Diana’s deep and rich lower range and her mature sound for someone so young. Next listen to her cover of Chris Izaak's, "Wicked Game" the following year in 2019 when she was only 15 years old during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova vocally now is just about at a true contralto. Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of “You Are Super”.
Just 2 years later, in September of 2021, Diana competed in a new televised vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!” where Diana covered Elvis Presley’s classic “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. It was during this performance that her vocal range was again measured and her functional range now measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. This new vocal range is what defines her as a “Dramatic Contralto”.
Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. A singer who has mastered this polyphonic vocal technique can create one, and sometimes two, different tones simultaneously, adding to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. This polyphonic ability is why some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of electronic voice manipulation or pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice of any kind going on at all. Neither is anyone else singing off stage nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. The “ShowMaskGoOn” is a very competitive vocal competition and Diana Ankudinova is required to use only the equipment provided to her as all other competitors are required to do. There was no opportunity for her or any other competitor to use any equipment to electronically manipulate or alter their voice. The other voices you are hearing is just a backing track used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score backing track. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing “Can't Help Falling In Love”.
Female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age although some reach it sooner, and others, later. Diana Ankudinova’s vocals are already developed well ahead of schedule in reaching vocal maturity. Some believe she has already reached vocal maturity. I look forward to what Diana will sound like in a few more years and to listening to her voice if it does mature more. If and when that happens, she will have had many more years of voice training with her voice teacher in addition to more years honing her on-stage live performance skills. When that day comes, there will be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be more of a vocal force than she is now. She will be a powerhouse to be reckoned with and a wonder to behold on stage.
Diana took part in the “ShowMaskGoOn!” vocal competition that spanned 9 weeks and each competitor had to sing a different song in a different genre each week. In September of 2021, Diana Ankudinova performed her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” as her first song. The judges were a panel of nine professional singers that competed against each other and also award judging points to each other. When Diana was not competing, she was a member of this judging panel. During Diana’s performance, the judge on the top row that stands up is the well-known Russian tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan who was a special guest judge for this competition and is married to the world-famous soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana’s performance, she received a standing ovation from all of her competitors. Another judge, Julia Parshuta, who is also a well-known contemporary Russian singer is the blond woman standing in the center row dressed in red. She looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance and puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total bewilderment and disbelief. Julia Parshuta, along with the other judges now knows at some point, she and all the other judges have to compete against Diana, who is a generational talent. Finally, Diana won this competition.
One of the things that make Diana's singing so spooky is her ability to sing more than one note at a time (polyphonic). Also Diana's back story is as unique as her magical larynx. Severely abused as a child, she had to attend speech therapy when adopted, and her therapist recommended singing. Literally, music is her salvation.

Diana is a force of nature! This version of the song brings to mind someone who is being forced into 'love' whether they want it or not. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on RUclips.

I saw Diana on RUclips when she was 13 on Voice kids Russia. She performed a yodeling song. I think the yodeling confused the judges and she was rejected. But I was very impressed with her and was hoping she would find another singing competition. She did a year later at age14 and won the shows top prize. That's when Russian's and RUclips started to take notice. Her channel has 1.2 million subs and almost 168 million views.

Definitely my favorite version of this song! Diana, as is Dimash, is a once in a lifetime vocalist. I appreciate different artists for what they bring and how well they bring it. I hate when people compare artists as in , my fav is better than your fav! Why can't we just respect one another's choice? Our ears don't hear things the same and our tastes vary. Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. The doctor recommended singing lessons and so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Her mother, Irina Ponik, turned her whole life inside out and started all over with a new motherhood and many new professions - seamstress, manager, vblogger… admirable. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. It is admirable how she promotes her daughter's career, teaching her how to fly but makes sure that she is down to earth Remains.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.

With Maria Tarasenko (songwriter), the trio created the 9 songs of Diana's first CD, released Dec. 2021 with great success. The album received gold in June 2022.

But she is not only a great singer and storyteller. She lives her songs and touches our hearts and souls. But also she looks beautiful and she is a humble, intelligent and hardworking young woman. The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. Stunning! Epic! What a voice! This is a song about the other side of love. Obsessive love. The risk and the pain of love when things go awry. This was a cover of Elvis' song but arranged in the minor key making it darker and more emotional. Diana's music will take you on a different journey than you may be accustomed to. Would recommend her cover of "Wicked Game" or the amazing "Rechenka". Stage production is second to none.

I recommend seeing all the songs she sang in the same competition! It must be noted that all the judges are singers with experience and they did not refer to Diana because what can an 18-year-old girl do?
