I think with all the artistic parallels and dialogue you mention, it's pretty clear the artist's intention was to imply that Cell was, in fact, Super Saiyan, and later on SS2. The anime making sure to color his aura yellow was definitely intentional as well. It plays into his origin story perfectly considering his genetic makeup

I wonder how much more powerful cell could have been had the cell arc and Buu arc been switched around. Cell with majin buus regeneration would have been diabolical. Potentially too powerful and actually able to destroy everyone and everything.
Whenever Cell powered up he usually had yellow/gold Super Saiyan aura. He never had purple aura like Freeza(except in the anime when Semi Perfect Cell powered up against Vegeta). Makes me think if they had brought him back in Super and had him train, he’d be more likely to achieve Super Saiyan Blue power than a Golden transformation like Freeza had.
Well,in DB Heroes they confirm us that Cell's "Race" is capable of going into SS God and Blue,with his scales going from Green into Crimson Red and Blue Light.

There isn't some kind of home planet unless you're implying, he made like 1,000 cells. Heroes is just some mess of an attempt at a story for fan service and most people aren't that fond of it as a result. I don't think Cell would have the same potential as Frieza, who is already God of Destruction level and nobody could possibly stand a chance. They'd have to all battle him at once and throw in some fusions. Gogeta, Gotenks, Brohan or something lol. Maybe if 3 fusions came together they'd win, but Black Frieza is too OP. Frieza was the most powerful DNA he had in general. His Saiyan DNA ki grew as he gulped up more people, but it was still extracted from Saiyan's with battle power only around 20,000.

It effects them. The idea, is that beings of pure heart, evil or good, have a chance of bouncing it, because they potentially have the ability to make one too if they knew how. However, they aren't safe from it exploding. That's why the Genkidama was so dangerous to everyone. Even early on, King Kai warned Goku not to use it because it can very easily blow up the planet it got made.
@@ElKabong3345 Random thought, what if instead of evil people being incapable of making/deflecting spirit bombs, the pure heart thing only made it easier for a good person to collect and manipulate spirit energy? It would explain why it's dangerous to everyone, why Buu could push it back, and why Goku only needed to use regular Super Saiyan to win that struggle. That could also be why Cell said he could do it, but never did. Sure, he could collect the energy and make one, but he wouldn't be able to do it as efficiently as Goku. Not only would it take longer to create a spirit bomb that's actually worth using, it would also pose the risk of the attack being deflected back at him due to the Z Fighter's generally pure hearts.
@@ling8956 Kid Buu didn't have a concept of what is Good and Evil,he was for all effect,a Living Weapon without any kind of Ego or Reason unlike Cell,who was built as the Ultimate Life Form and a Weapon to destroy Goku. That's why and also because Goku was tired that he or rather,IT was able to touch and push back the Spirit Bomb. If he was morally evil,he would have being able to touch the Spirit Bomb and resists the attack like Freeza but not being able to push it back because only people that believes that it's morally good is capable of push the Spirit Bomb. Jiren is morally Good but in his own terms so he was able to push it back,if Jiren was evil,he would have received the Spirit Bomb but nothing would have happen because he's so powerful that he would have tanked the attack but because he's good and more powerful,he was able to repel the attack with his own thoughts. If Cell decided to use the Spirit Bomb outside videogames,i'm pretty sure that the attack would have fall on him before throwing it thanks to his Cold Demon's cells from Freeza and King Cold that enhance the evil he was program to have by Dr Gero or the desire to fight his Saiyan's cells gave him.
@@robo-raven2157 It's implied in the story, that a requirement for making a Genkidama is a pure heart it can be pure evil, or pure good. That's also why the bad guys, from Freezer and Kid Buu, are capable of putting up a struggle while touching it against the Genkidama, for being pure (evil). The issue is that somewhere, someone spread misinformation to try and make the Genkidama some sort of holy attack that's Super Effective against evil.
If you go by the anime I would say he was kind of a Super Saiyan, his aura was the same as Goku but with a purple glow IIRC, and of course Super Perfect was his "Super Saiyan 2" form with the electrical sparks around his aura.

Do you think he meant he simply powered up like how Gohan just recently powered up or he powered up in the same fashion in strength as Gohan? @@gohanson27 Yeah I don't understand why people are actually thinking Cell is SSJ. Toriyama said Zenkai stop once you become one basically. Cell has Saiyan cells but that's it, this data is from when Goku and Vegeta battled. He might be able to have a power similar to SSJ but then again you might as well call Android 17 a Super Saiyan. Anyway, Cell wouldn't have had a massive zenkai if he was really a Super Saiyan. And again, zenkai aren't really a thing once you become SSJ or they become so insignificant they don't even matter. Know what would happen if SSJs could keep getting zenkais? You'd have Vegeta doing exactly what he did on Namek: abusing Dende to heal him from near death. That's exactly why Toriyama put a stop on the zenkai, it worked as a story element on Namek but it would've ruined the series if Super Saiyan's could just keep purposely almost dying just to get more powerful. Most of Cells power comes from the androids and people he absorbed in the first place. He can have a high enough power equivalent to Super Saiyan or whatever, and it might give him a similar aura as a Super Saiyan but he simply isn't one, otherwise he wouldn't have got his zenkai. I knew the answer as soon as I saw this title, now the comments section is full of people arguing or making things up. I know that tends to happen with his videos but this one is among the worst I've come across. The powerscaling community are pretty toxic, I mean a lot of the DBZ fandom is if we're being really honest.
If cell went ssj2 his power level would’ve been 6 billion and that doesn’t even include the zenkai he got from blowing himself up and the daizenshuu says he was 4.5 billion after zenkai and was 3 billion when he fought gohan so either the ssj multiplier works differently for cell or something that toriyama just threw in there for the fans which is something he would do
It’s a technique from the other world or heaven in the dbz verse so dr.gero couldn’t have seen the kio Ken technique since Goku learned it when he literally died in sayian saga
Because,while in theory the Kaio Ken should be an infinity power boost as long the user's body can stand it's power,the Kaio Ken became outdated by Super Saiyan. The Kaio Ken could only power up x20 the user's ki while Super Saiyan can x50.
Cell is approximately 40% Saiyan based off the dna used to create him, which is a good 15% more Saiyan than pan is and she was considered Saiyan enough for the super saiyan god ritual.
I agree with your breakdown LSM. He’s an amalgamation of everybody. His body is durable like Frieza. He can multiply his power like the saiyans. He can regenerate like the namekians and he’s been tuned to take advantage like the androids. His calling Trunks out with the same transformation is so in character for him lol

it's either Cell has his own version of Super Saiyan Forms (multiple grades) due to his Saiyan DNA, and he "unlocks" them one by one as he develops towards perfection.. or Cell just has a power up equivalent to Super Saiyan in power but it's not actually Super Saiyan (due to him not being "enough" of a Saiyan), it's seems that other characters have forms that look like Ascended Super Saiyan, for example Frieza's buff 100% form is something like Ascended Super Saiyan (although it doesn't effect his speed), however on Frieza's situation we know it's not "Super Saiyan" so who knows if for Cell it's actual Super Saiyan or it's similar to Friezas, as in, it's not actual super saiyan but it has some similarities since after the original Dragonball most characters seem to have similarities... All this isn't clearly explained for none-Saiyan characters...
I say yes. For the same exact reason why it would be cringe to say that Gohan and trunks were never real Super Saiyan, the fact that they do have sayian in their DNA, it seems to allow them to assess the same transformation as the pure-blooded Sayians, and we do see evidence of this with cell during the Cell Games. Cell has sayian genes so there's no reason to think it is coincidence that his Aura during his fight against Goku was reminiscent of a Super Saiyan's aura and the same change happened to him as did with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan when cell came back with a zenkai boost.
Before watching the video. I can't argue about the manga, but in anime them giving him ssj aura, him talking about saiyan cells and him getting a zenkai as well as ssj2 aura after zenkai were clearly intentional.

I never doubted since the first time I saw DBZ that Cell was able to turn into a Super Saiyan. He has the Aura of one and eventually also the rays around him that confirms that the Zenkai boost he received was so great that gave him the ability to go into Super Saiyan 2. (In fact,it would have been funny if he was capable of going into SS3. How is he going to look? He would have gotten more longer antennas as the SS3 gaves the user longer hair and Cell doesn't have hair?) What I never liked it was the fact that he was able to return in his perfect body despite no longer having 18 inside him.
Yes. His aura was the yellow/gold tone of SSJ. Then it had lightning against Gohan after he had lost 18, his Saiyan cells made him stronger from nearing death. Cell is probably the most limitless potential character in all of DBZ. He had to be destroyed because Akira wrote him too well of a concept. He has the potential of turning golden, SSG, SSGSS combining them all. Along with the fact he could probably turn giant like Piccolo. 17 & 18 were cyborgs; half human half machine.
I'd say no. He's genetically modified to have the Saiyan cells, so he can produce an aura or ki storm that looks like Super Saiyan, but isn't truly in that form. He might have power similar but to me it's just not the same. Toriyama had said after the SSJ wall was hit, zenkai became insignificant, so if Cell was one, he wouldn't have got a zenkai at all, let alone one that suddenly jumps to something like SSJ2 and for some reason learning instantaneous movement. Him learning that doesn't exactly make sense, but it also shows that his "zenkai" just doesn't work the same as it would for a Sayan. Regardless, Gohan's still *way* stronger than him
To be fair, Goku Black got zenkais after zenkais because he wasn't Goku despite being in Goku's body so it isn't that farfetched that Cell got a zenkai that made him reach SSJ2
@@mds_main I don't think those were zenkais for Black rather than him getting used to using more strength. He was already way too strong for Trunks. Having strong Saiyan rivalries one of which is with the body you stole and have various skills from Goku would help him learn fast. Toriyama stated zenkais were insignificant after becoming Super Saiyan as I'd noted in that comment. It would've been a point to question after they were spammed throughout pretty much the whole Namek Saga. After that they were never really mentioned by anyone in the story or outside it. Vegeta definitely wasn't zenkai'ing himself repeatedly to become a Super Saiyan in the android saga. There's probably some knd of ceiling for it and Black was already getting stronger in his first fight with Goku on Earth. Vegeta and Goku had to put in more training to be good enough for him and then Zamasu and him after. No one was really noticeably getting them plot wise either. Cell got his zenkai-esque thing, which I'll admit is close enough. but is still artificial because he's a bug-like android with Namekian and whatever Frieza's race is. Since Super Saiyan's as mentioned no longer get significant zenkai, if any, then the bulk of Cell is just the artificial bits. He has the DNA of 2 Saiyan's from when they weren't Super Saiyan's (anime he has more people for some reason). So the fact that he got a zenkai means he isn't a Super Saiyan. Power close to one, I mean Piccolo as the Super Namekian outclassed all the Saiyan's at that time. Either way I still don't think it works the same compared to a real Saiyan body. Black in theory, but he was already so strong that it'd fall into the "insignificant" category

I thought I'd said Cell didn't get a zenkai based on what you said, but my main point is that because he got one, he isn't a true Super Saiyan. My stuff on black I think is correct otherwise, but I don't see what that's gotta do with Cell considering Black is a pure blooded Saiyan body who is already extremely powerful, and having powerful adversaries simply taught him how to fight with that body better. Then when he realized anger was a big trigger for Saiyan's, he became stronger from that too. In short with Cell, which I mention more precisely in my revised comment from last night: as stated Super Saiyan's don't really receive zenkai boosts anymore. It's been said many times and I forget what interview it was, but Toriyama did say this, because people wondered why after Namek it stopped really being a thing. If Cell was truly a SSJ, he wouldn't have got a zenkai big enough to give him SSJ2. He still wasn't exactly SSJ2 though, it was just a similar ki storm. The fact that he learned instantaneous movement from it also shows that this zenkai isn't like a real Saiyan zenkai. I’ve always wondered if Cell had DNA from any Saiyans other than Goku and Vegeta? Did he also have DNA from Raditz, Nappa, and Gohan? Cell saying the device didn’t take any samples from Trunks because he already had more than enough contributions from saiyans makes me think the answer is yes, the little bug robot DID collect samples from EVERY saiyan who had been on Earth up til that point.
I haven’t finished watching this yet but I always thought after he arrived to absorb 17 n fight Piccolo, 17 & 16 I thought he had just transformed in the same sense of the Super Sayain transformation(especially having that yellow aura)
Humm, I mean he had the Aura and later electric aura. I don't think in a sense he was a "Super Saiyan" because there are no other physical indicators he transforms like a SSJ. I'd say that the Saiyan genes are dominate and the way they react to Cells level of power manifests Ki similarly to how SSJ Ki manifests. Oddly, part of me thinks that it should be Frieza and his fathers DNA that would be more dominant, but whatever. I think Cell was done this way for dramatic effect, telling the reader/watcher "look you can't beat Cell, because he can do everything the Heroes can do" kind thing.
Well I think ultimately mike was Simply trying to compare they're levels. Cell can't be considered a super Saiyan because he wasn't a Saiyan but his power level was like of a super Saiyan, that's why they called him super perfect form cell.

Gero wasn’t in charge of the Cell project by that point, which included the spy bots. He left that up to his super computer that acted autonomously. That’s why he also didn’t know about King Cold and Frieza.
The 50x stronger talk about super Saiyan is so arbitrary. Just because it was shown to us that way against Frieza doesn't mean super Saiyan is just a 50x multiplier flat.
I think it was implied he was able to attain a super saiyan like transformation from having the cells. He did have the gold aura when he powered up. And the lighting when he came back after self destructing. Those were definitely gohans ss2 traits he picked up from fighting him.
There are definitely some thematic comparisons, including after the Super Perfect Zenkai, but I personally don't think there's enough evidence to say Cell is a literal Super Saiyan.
Cell wasn't perfect per se. he had no earthling genes. This means that the ability that Gohan has and that Trunks and Goten should have as well means that they are stronger hybrids thanks to the mixture of Earthlings and Saiyans, which Vegeta recognized and expressed herself back then. He could actually have been much stronger if he had earthling genes and could also have gotten this boost from the hybrid like Gohan.
If Cell was a Super Saiyan because of the Saiyan cells he inherited from Goku, Vegeta & Gohan, then he could also could be a Super Namekian because of yhe DNA he inherited from Piccolo. This logic also applies to other villains like Buutenks, Zamasu, Baby & Moro. BUUTENKS: was a Super Saiyan 3 because he absorbed Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks & he also absorbed the Saiyan Gohan FUSED ZAMASU: was a Super Saiyan Rose(even though his Super Saiyan hairstyle color was white), because one of his fusees Goku Black was a Zamasu who obviously switched bodies with an alternate timeline Goku. BABY VEGETA: was a Super Saiyan because Baby took over Vegeta's body and inherited his powers. Baby Vegeta was able to transform into a Golden Great Ape MORO: was a Super Saiyan and way beyond because he was able to absorb the powers of Goku & Vegeta PLUS after he absorbed OG73 who copied the powers of the Saiyan Gohan, Moro-73 them copied the powers of the Saiyan Vegeta.

Watching the first half makes me wonder: Why didn't Piccolo just TOLD the Androids about Cell, instead of fighting them right away. Piccolo is smart enough to understand that powering up will summon Cell. That would be the proof. It would be in the first interest of the Androids to not be absorbed. So, if 16, 17, 18 & Piccolo (aswell possibly all the humans, Gohan and maybe even Goku) fought Imperfect Cell at once, would they be able to win?
Classic Goku is uneducated & uncivilized, bc he lived in a forrest all alone until he was 12. I wouldn’t call him dumb, he's just a child who's not adapted to "normal" human life. And it's very funny. Nevertheless he's still a fighting genius. Z Goku, while still uneducated, adapted a lot of soceity. I call this man smart and even genious at some times. His batte iq is through the roof many times. He may have his flaws as everyone does, but everyone who think he is stupid, should raise themself the question if they are stupid themselves. He's a leader, great father, (yes you read that right) and a role model. Super Goku.. Iam sorry. While still a fighting genius with some bright moments, is just protrayed as goof and I feel like he's actually silly and dumb. Thats one of the biggest problems I got with Super. You have to consider that we don't know what percentage of genes Gero used to make Cells's DNA, for all we know he might be 25% Goku and Vegeta and therefore as much as a Sayan as Pan. Maybe it's like those juices on the supermarket that say they are all these fruits and then you look at the ingredients percentages and it's like 60% apple juice, 10% lemon and 4% all the others. That honestly could be a video or a short itself, how much of Cell is from each, I think he shows much more Namekian characteristics biologically, with a strong Freeza race touch for the survivability without limbs, and then enough Sayan to the point of being able to use their enhancements and from the humans just enough to use their techniques.

I'm taking a multiple-choice test and stuck on a problem, I just can't figure it out, so I'm leaning toward just picking an answer at random and moving on but I'm not quite ready to give up just yet, when some one who is actively cheating drops there cheat sheet right in my line of sight such that I see the answer to the problem I'm stuck on. I didn't try to look at it, I literally couldn't help but see it. Now knowing the answer its really obvious to me that was the right answer and why, I also realize that its possible if I had kept trying to figure it out as I intended I would have figured it out... but its also possible I might not. If I put the correct answer, am I cheating, even though I might have gotten it anyway but now its impossible to know? I feel like "is cell a super sayian" is a similar question. The main issue is Super Saiyan is a very generic "ability" to just get some unclear (in the source material) amount stronger/faster/sturdier, and cell is himself a Saiyan as much as any hybrid saiyan like gohan or pan is, so its possible whatever power he displayed is just his own but its also possible its the power he got from his saiyan genes making him "super saiyan". Its never explicitly stated SS has exclusive rights to gold auras (correct me if I'm wrong but Golden Frieza has one too) so even if we count the gold aura in the anime I don't think you can say he's super saiyan with certainty and not just the way his aura manifested. And that's before even getting into the fact that SS itself isn't a single thing, there's all the "grades" of it, was he in an un-perfect SS1 state, perfect SS1, and so on. All that said, if your asking me to make a call, I believe Toriyama intended for him to be viewed as his unique hybrids equivalent of SS2 post rebirth via the addition of the lightning.
Someone have a manga (colored if possible) version of Cell when he transform in a "grade 4" against Gohan and become giant (compared to Gohan) is face become bigger too (Namekian DNA maybe ) not like against Trunks. I would be curious to compare his aura then too, because for me he's the only one going even further than Trunks in these "grades."
I think there is no doubt about it he was a SSJ and even SSJ2. I don't understand where does the fascination with Cell comes from? He is just a highly successful AI great, but in terms of villainy he never impressed me that much. To me Freeza is a better written villain and the best villain in the DB franchise.
What percentage of Cell is Saiyan anyway? I'm pretty sure in addition to the fighters we know Dr Gero put other DNA in in order to stabilize the chimeric mix of all those alien DNA. I'm not even sure if Cell has a skeleton or not
Yes imo. We know cell gets his cells from all the cells of the Z fighters mainly goku, vegeta frieza and piccolo. The reason I’d say he was a super saiyan because cell seemingly took the abilities he got from those fighters and took them to new heights at that time. The most notable being piccolo. We’ve never seen piccolo up to that point regenerate at the like which cell had. So cell’s abilities far surpass the donors he got it from. So it’s not far fetched to see that cells saiyan cells become “super” saiyan cells Edit: also the zenkai he got when he said “I’ve powered up like son gohan” who was super saiyan 2 and super perfect cell had lightning
I think if the idea is that Cell could go Golden in most ppls minds then yes he can go Super Saiyan. I think the reason the aura doesn’t stay is the same reason the aura doesn’t stay on Super Saiyans the whole time during a fight it’s mainly there at peak power up. Cell just doesn’t have hair so we don’t see him with blonde hair like a Super Saiyan. But Mike would be interested to know how much of a boost would Cell get if he fused with Namekians vs absorbing Humans? I would imagine that’s something he can do having Piccolo’s cells in him.
if he was SSJ then he'd be way more powerful than any of the z fighters even ssj2 gohan. if ssj gives you 50x boost then cell at base was extremely weak
It doesnt make sense. Despite having saiyan genes, Cell is a completely different being. He cannot transform in super saiyan just because he has saiyan cells.
We all know by this point goku could reach super saiyan 2. When cell blew up he absorbed gokus ss2 strength along with his techniques (instant transmission) and in having saiyan cells. He was super cell 2
He was a super cellian and later a super cellian 2, but I don’t think it was the same just what some amalgamation like him would get. Think like beast Gohan who is for sure using something like super saiyan but still it’s clearly not a direct super saiyan form.
When i was younger i did think this as well. However No Cell is just a unique being but his aura of yellow matches super saiyajin as well as when he comes back after exploding it was like Gohan. However i don't think he is a super sayaijin he just have the cells of them so perhapes his power matches there power his aura becomes similar in apperance.do due the nature of his cells. That would be my guess full power he has aura like gohan half power closer to ss1 ect. I say this due to the fact he is a different being created in a lab and can use the cells of other beings but he isn't a 1 to 1 copy.
I believe so. Super saiyan for cell doesn’t feel like a transformation but rather just part of his being. The super computer could have found a way for cell to eventually just copy what goku and gohan did and be in or at least fluctuate the power of super saiyan all the time.
I think he had the ability to grow stronger like the sayians but why when vegeta uses final flash on perfect cell injuring him badly he doesn't get a ki boost? Why when goku blows half of cells body off did cell not get a power boost? Is that just not enough damage to give cell a boost because he can regenerate from that damage? Does he have to be damaged way more like when he blew up to get any boost like a sayian? Because if so that means its alot harder for him to get stronger other than the fact he has freiza cells and can just train for it.
I think he was. He had a lot of Saiyan DNA... Even half Saiyans can transform and take advantage of that power, so it's not a stretch to think that a being designed to be capable of using all their abilities to the point of perfection would be able to use it too.

Explain this to me. Was Future Cell really from the original time line? When Future Cell told Piccolo about who he was in the anime, he talked about Future Trunks killing Metal Frieza and that the spy bot didn't collect Future Trunks's cells because it didn't need Saiyan cells anymore. What I want to know is if Cell can turn into a great ape version. His body is over 50% saiyan down to the cell structure itself, so it would make sense if he could transform looking at a full moon
5:48 it says in the lower left panel "We could have acquired the cells of Trunks as well...". How is that possible when Cell is from the timeline where Goku died because Trunks didn't travel back in time to give him the medicine?
All I am saying is that if they got cells from freiza and king cold when trunks killed them on earth then at that same point they could've gotten some of trunks cells and goku's cells when he arrived back so he would have the s cell's to do so cause it's been proven you only have to be part saiyan to get the ssj transformation

I’d say the best examples to look at is the full color mangas colored by Toriyama tho all the auras in those chapters are still white it’s the design that gives the idea. Cells aura mostly perfect cell is identical to that of the super saiyans. It’s most notable when gohan powers up against cell after cell too the sensu bean that goku gave him
I think with all the artistic parallels and dialogue you mention, it's pretty clear the artist's intention was to imply that Cell was, in fact, Super Saiyan, and later on SS2. The anime making sure to color his aura yellow was definitely intentional as well. It plays into his origin story perfectly considering his genetic makeup

Whenever Cell powered up he usually had yellow/gold Super Saiyan aura. He never had purple aura like Freeza(except in the anime when Semi Perfect Cell powered up against Vegeta). Makes me think if they had brought him back in Super and had him train, he’d be more likely to achieve Super Saiyan Blue power than a Golden transformation like Freeza had.

If you ask me, Cell using the Spirit Bomb would have literally backfired on him, since it doesn’t effect on people who aren’t evil like Goku and Gohan, and they would have just bounced it right back at him.
When Buu pushed back the Spirit Bomb, Goku was portrayed to be in danger. That and Jiren pushing it back on Goku seemed to have some sort of risk.
It effects them.
The idea, is that beings of pure heart, evil or good, have a chance of bouncing it, because they potentially have the ability to make one too if they knew how.
However, they aren't safe from it exploding. That's why the Genkidama was so dangerous to everyone.
Even early on, King Kai warned Goku not to use it because it can very easily blow up the planet it got made.

You'd have Vegeta doing exactly what he did on Namek: abusing Dende to heal him from near death. That's exactly why Toriyama put a stop on the zenkai, it worked as a story element on Namek but it would've ruined the series if Super Saiyan's could just keep purposely almost dying just to get more powerful.
Most of Cells power comes from the androids and people he absorbed in the first place. He can have a high enough power equivalent to Super Saiyan or whatever, and it might give him a similar aura as a Super Saiyan but he simply isn't one, otherwise he wouldn't have got his zenkai.

For the same exact reason why it would be cringe to say that Gohan and trunks were never real Super Saiyan, the fact that they do have sayian in their DNA, it seems to allow them to assess the same transformation as the pure-blooded Sayians, and we do see evidence of this with cell during the Cell Games. Cell has sayian genes so there's no reason to think it is coincidence that his Aura during his fight against Goku was reminiscent of a Super Saiyan's aura and the same change happened to him as did with Super Saiyan 2 Gohan when cell came back with a zenkai boost.

I never doubted since the first time I saw DBZ that Cell was able to turn into a Super Saiyan. He has the Aura of one and eventually also the rays around him that confirms that the Zenkai boost he received was so great that gave him the ability to go into Super Saiyan 2. (In fact,it would have been funny if he was capable of going into SS3. How is he going to look? He would have gotten more longer antennas as the SS3 gaves the user longer hair and Cell doesn't have hair?) What I never liked it was the fact that he was able to return in his perfect body despite no longer having 18 inside him.

Yes. His aura was the yellow/gold tone of SSJ. Then it had lightning against Gohan after he had lost 18, his Saiyan cells made him stronger from nearing death. Cell is probably the most limitless potential character in all of DBZ. He had to be destroyed because Akira wrote him too well of a concept. He has the potential of turning golden, SSG, SSGSS combining them all. Along with the fact he could probably turn giant like Piccolo. 17 & 18 were cyborgs; half human half machine.
I'd say no. He's genetically modified to have the Saiyan cells, so he can produce an aura or ki storm that looks like Super Saiyan, but isn't truly in that form. He might have power similar but to me it's just not the same. Toriyama had said after the SSJ wall was hit, zenkai became insignificant, so if Cell was one, he wouldn't have got a zenkai at all, let alone one that suddenly jumps to something like SSJ2 and for some reason learning instantaneous movement. Him learning that doesn't exactly make sense, but it also shows that his "zenkai" just doesn't work the same as it would for a Sayan. Regardless, Gohan's still *way* stronger than him
To be fair, Goku Black got zenkais after zenkais because he wasn't Goku despite being in Goku's body so it isn't that farfetched that Cell got a zenkai that made him reach SSJ2
@@mds_main I don't think those were zenkais for Black rather than him getting used to using more strength. He was already way too strong for Trunks. Having strong Saiyan rivalries one of which is with the body you stole and have various skills from Goku would help him learn fast.
Toriyama stated zenkais were insignificant after becoming Super Saiyan as I'd noted in that comment. It would've been a point to question after they were spammed throughout pretty much the whole Namek Saga. After that they were never really mentioned by anyone in the story or outside it. Vegeta definitely wasn't zenkai'ing himself repeatedly to become a Super Saiyan in the android saga.
There's probably some knd of ceiling for it and Black was already getting stronger in his first fight with Goku on Earth. Vegeta and Goku had to put in more training to be good enough for him and then Zamasu and him after.
No one was really noticeably getting them plot wise either. Cell got his zenkai-esque thing, which I'll admit is close enough. but is still artificial because he's a bug-like android with Namekian and whatever Frieza's race is.
Since Super Saiyan's as mentioned no longer get significant zenkai, if any, then the bulk of Cell is just the artificial bits. He has the DNA of 2 Saiyan's from when they weren't Super Saiyan's (anime he has more people for some reason). So the fact that he got a zenkai means he isn't a Super Saiyan. Power close to one, I mean Piccolo as the Super Namekian outclassed all the Saiyan's at that time.
Either way I still don't think it works the same compared to a real Saiyan body. Black in theory, but he was already so strong that it'd fall into the "insignificant" category

I thought I'd said Cell didn't get a zenkai based on what you said, but my main point is that because he got one, he isn't a true Super Saiyan. My stuff on black I think is correct otherwise, but I don't see what that's gotta do with Cell considering Black is a pure blooded Saiyan body who is already extremely powerful, and having powerful adversaries simply taught him how to fight with that body better. Then when he realized anger was a big trigger for Saiyan's, he became stronger from that too.

It's been said many times and I forget what interview it was, but Toriyama did say this, because people wondered why after Namek it stopped really being a thing. If Cell was truly a SSJ, he wouldn't have got a zenkai big enough to give him SSJ2.
He still wasn't exactly SSJ2 though, it was just a similar ki storm. The fact that he learned instantaneous movement from it also shows that this zenkai isn't like a real Saiyan zenkai. Saiyan's don't come back from near death and magically learn a new technique like that. Artificial human, artificial zenkai.

Humm, I mean he had the Aura and later electric aura. I don't think in a sense he was a "Super Saiyan" because there are no other physical indicators he transforms like a SSJ. I'd say that the Saiyan genes are dominate and the way they react to Cells level of power manifests Ki similarly to how SSJ Ki manifests. Oddly, part of me thinks that it should be Frieza and his fathers DNA that would be more dominant, but whatever. I think Cell was done this way for dramatic effect, telling the reader/watcher "look you can't beat Cell, because he can do everything the Heroes can do" kind thing.

Gero wasn’t in charge of the Cell project by that point, which included the spy bots. He left that up to his super computer that acted autonomously. That’s why he also didn’t know about King Cold and Frieza.
The 50x stronger talk about super Saiyan is so arbitrary. Just because it was shown to us that way against Frieza doesn't mean super Saiyan is just a 50x multiplier flat.

There are definitely some thematic comparisons, including after the Super Perfect Zenkai, but I personally don't think there's enough evidence to say Cell is a literal Super Saiyan.
Cell wasn't perfect per se. he had no earthling genes. This means that the ability that Gohan has and that Trunks and Goten should have as well means that they are stronger hybrids thanks to the mixture of Earthlings and Saiyans, which Vegeta recognized and expressed herself back then. He could actually have been much stronger if he had earthling genes and could also have gotten this boost from the hybrid like Gohan.
If Cell was a Super Saiyan because of the Saiyan cells he inherited from Goku, Vegeta & Gohan, then he could also could be a Super Namekian because of yhe DNA he inherited from Piccolo. This logic also applies to other villains like Buutenks, Zamasu, Baby & Moro.
BUUTENKS: was a Super Saiyan 3 because he absorbed Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks & he also absorbed the Saiyan Gohan
FUSED ZAMASU: was a Super Saiyan Rose(even though his Super Saiyan hairstyle color was white), because one of his fusees Goku Black was a Zamasu who obviously switched bodies with an alternate timeline Goku.

Watching the first half makes me wonder: Why didn't Piccolo just TOLD the Androids about Cell, instead of fighting them right away.
Piccolo is smart enough to understand that powering up will summon Cell. That would be the proof. It would be in the first interest of the Androids to not be absorbed.
So, if 16, 17, 18 & Piccolo (aswell possibly all the humans, Gohan and maybe even Goku) fought Imperfect Cell at once, would they be able to win?

Classic Goku is uneducated & uncivilized, bc he lived in a forrest all alone until he was 12. I wouldn’t call him dumb, he's just a child who's not adapted to "normal" human life. And it's very funny. Nevertheless he's still a fighting genius.
Z Goku, while still uneducated, adapted a lot of soceity. I call this man smart and even genious at some times. His batte iq is through the roof many times. He may have his flaws as everyone does, but everyone who think he is stupid, should raise themself the question if they are stupid themselves. He's a leader, great father, (yes you read that right) and a role model.
Super Goku.. Iam sorry. While still a fighting genius with some bright moments, is just protrayed as goof and I feel like he's actually silly and dumb. Thats one of the biggest problems I got with Super.

You have to consider that we don't know what percentage of genes Gero used to make Cells's DNA, for all we know he might be 25% Goku and Vegeta and therefore as much as a Sayan as Pan. Maybe it's like those juices on the supermarket that say they are all these fruits and then you look at the ingredients percentages and it's like 60% apple juice, 10% lemon and 4% all the others.
That honestly could be a video or a short itself, how much of Cell is from each, I think he shows much more Namekian characteristics biologically, with a strong Freeza race touch for the survivability without limbs, and then enough Sayan to the point of being able to use their enhancements and from the humans just enough to use their techniques.

Narratively the grade 2 and 3 ssj come off as failed or incomplete ssj transformation on top of ssj transformation with power that reflectsit and grade 5 comes off as a successful go ssj twice transformation so it would be something like
ssj 50x
Grade 2 25x grade 1
Grade 3 who knows how many xs but getting closer to 50 with drawbacks
Grade 4 the energy wasted by transformation and excitement is conserved and can be used to explosively raise their power like piccolo vs 20
Grade 5 successful 50x grade 1 with mastered stamina
I'm taking a multiple-choice test and stuck on a problem, I just can't figure it out, so I'm leaning toward just picking an answer at random and moving on but I'm not quite ready to give up just yet, when some one who is actively cheating drops there cheat sheet right in my line of sight such that I see the answer to the problem I'm stuck on. I feel like "is cell a super sayian" is a similar question. The main issue is Super Saiyan is a very generic "ability" to just get some unclear (in the source material) amount stronger/faster/sturdier, and cell is himself a Saiyan as much as any hybrid saiyan like gohan or pan is, so its possible whatever power he displayed is just his own but its also possible its the power he got from his saiyan genes making him "super saiyan". Its never explicitly stated SS has exclusive rights to gold auras (correct me if I'm wrong but Golden Frieza has one too) so even if we count the gold aura in the anime I don't think you can say he's super saiyan with certainty and not just the way his aura manifested.
And that's before even getting into the fact that SS itself isn't a single thing, there's all the "grades" of it, was he in an un-perfect SS1 state, perfect SS1, and so on.
All that said, if your asking me to make a call, I believe Toriyama intended for him to be viewed as his unique hybrids equivalent of SS2 post rebirth via the addition of the lightning.
Someone have a manga (colored if possible) version of Cell when he transform in a "grade 4" against Gohan and become giant (compared to Gohan) is face become bigger too (Namekian DNA maybe ) not like against Trunks. I would be curious to compare his aura then too, because for me he's the only one going even further than Trunks in these "grades."
I think there is no doubt about it he was a SSJ and even SSJ2. I don't understand where does the fascination with Cell comes from? He is just a highly successful AI great, but in terms of villainy he never impressed me that much. To me Freeza is a better written villain and the best villain in the DB franchise.
What percentage of Cell is Saiyan anyway? I'm pretty sure in addition to the fighters we know Dr Gero put other DNA in in order to stabilize the chimeric mix of all those alien DNA. I'm not even sure if Cell has a skeleton or not

Yes imo. We know cell gets his cells from all the cells of the Z fighters mainly goku, vegeta frieza and piccolo. The reason I’d say he was a super saiyan because cell seemingly took the abilities he got from those fighters and took them to new heights at that time. The most notable being piccolo. We’ve never seen piccolo up to that point regenerate at the like which cell had. So cell’s abilities far surpass the donors he got it from. So it’s not far fetched to see that cells saiyan cells become “super” saiyan cells
Edit: also the zenkai he got when he said “I’ve powered up like son gohan” who was super saiyan 2 and super perfect cell had lightning
I think if the idea is that Cell could go Golden in most ppls minds then yes he can go Super Saiyan. I think the reason the aura doesn’t stay is the same reason the aura doesn’t stay on Super Saiyans the whole time during a fight it’s mainly there at peak power up. Cell just doesn’t have hair so we don’t see him with blonde hair like a Super Saiyan. But Mike would be interested to know how much of a boost would Cell get if he fused with Namekians vs absorbing Humans? I would imagine that’s something he can do having Piccolo’s cells in him.
if he was SSJ then he'd be way more powerful than any of the z fighters even ssj2 gohan. if ssj gives you 50x boost then cell at base was extremely weak
It doesnt make sense. Despite having saiyan genes, Cell is a completely different being. He cannot transform in super saiyan just because he has saiyan cells.
We all know by this point goku could reach super saiyan 2. When cell blew up he absorbed gokus ss2 strength along with his techniques (instant transmission) and in having saiyan cells. He was super cell 2
He was a super cellian and later a super cellian 2, but I don’t think it was the same just what some amalgamation like him would get. Think like beast Gohan who is for sure using something like super saiyan but still it’s clearly not a direct super saiyan form.
When i was younger i did think this as well. However No Cell is just a unique being but his aura of yellow matches super saiyajin as well as when he comes back after exploding it was like Gohan. However i don't think he is a super sayaijin he just have the cells of them so perhapes his power matches there power his aura becomes similar in apperance.do due the nature of his cells. That would be my guess full power he has aura like gohan half power closer to ss1 ect. I say this due to the fact he is a different being created in a lab and can use the cells of other beings but he isn't a 1 to 1 copy.
I believe so. Super saiyan for cell doesn’t feel like a transformation but rather just part of his being. The super computer could have found a way for cell to eventually just copy what goku and gohan did and be in or at least fluctuate the power of super saiyan all the time.
Well, doesn't cell go grade 3 to mock trunks? That pretty much settles this debate, unless thats anime only? I'd be very surprised if it is
I think he had the ability to grow stronger like the sayians but why when vegeta uses final flash on perfect cell injuring him badly he doesn't get a ki boost? Why when goku blows half of cells body off did cell not get a power boost? Is that just not enough damage to give cell a boost because he can regenerate from that damage? Does he have to be damaged way more like when he blew up to get any boost like a sayian? Because if so that means its alot harder for him to get stronger other than the fact he has freiza cells and can just train for it.
I think he was. He had a lot of Saiyan DNA... Even half Saiyans can transform and take advantage of that power, so it's not a stretch to think that a being designed to be capable of using all their abilities to the point of perfection would be able to use it too.
A little off topic, but I wonder why Cell wasn't programmed with/made to have the ability to track the andriods if they were intended to be absorbed by him.
of course cell is a "super sayain" (whatever that biological ability actually is though he is only part sayain lol) he has sayain cells and has been seen with the same gold/yellow aura that only super sayains have.. he even got a zenkai boost after blowing himself up personally i never questioned it they made it quite obvious

Was Future Cell really from the original time line?
When Future Cell told Piccolo about who he was in the anime, he talked about Future Trunks killing Metal Frieza and that the spy bot didn't collect Future Trunks's cells because it didn't need Saiyan cells anymore.
I mean, if Future Cell was really from the original time line, wouldn't his story be more about Goku killing Metal Frieza instead of Future Trunks killing Metal Frieza?
What I want to know is if Cell can turn into a great ape version. His body is over 50% saiyan down to the cell structure itself, so it would make sense if he could transform looking at a full moon

How is that possible when Cell is from the timeline where Goku died because Trunks didn't travel back in time to give him the medicine?
All I am saying is that if they got cells from freiza and king cold when trunks killed them on earth then at that same point they could've gotten some of trunks cells and goku's cells when he arrived back so he would have the s cell's to do so cause it's been proven you only have to be part saiyan to get the ssj transformation
