    The brush is designed for one stroke, one coat. It's garbage if you try to use it like a traditional brush. It's pretty effective if you start at the bottom of the nail and drag directly to the free edge in one go. It's not a professional product by far, but it gets people that don't know how to do nails out of the house in three minutes.

      Your response corresponds with many users since the Sally Hansen is obviously a well purchased item but I tried it and the brush situation turned me off (Very cumbersome and drippy polish). Glad for your experience but not for all.

      @@maggiemay70 There's definitely a learning curve with the polish. Once you get it down, then you don't hate it anymore. All quick dry polishes require a different approach than traditional lacquers, and thinner formulas have their own tricks for application vs. thicker formulas.
      Just like it took me a few tries to learn how to apply matte polish. That has a learning curve of its own.
      Half the fun of manicuring is figuring out how to apply different polishes.

    I'd love to buy the Dior, but the Sally Hansen fits my budget better. I cannot justify spending over $30 for a nail polish. For the savings, I can make the drugstore polish work.

    I have actually wondered whether, and where, one could buy a different bottle with a better brush, or just a better brush to use with cheaper polishes.

    • @tomjones2157
      @tomjones2157 Год назад +2

      Yes! You can swap brushes just firmly grip the stem and pull free from the cap. They snap back in. might require force. I wear a surgical gloves to avoid mess and clean the brush with acetone before putting in the new cap. You can swap a brush between brands IF the stem width and length is the same as the old one. When I finish a bottle and the brush was good I clean it up and pop in a labelled plastic bag. Several times I've received a wonky brush and I've found a duplicate in my brush stash 😆

    I love the Sally Hansen Insta-Dry for my toes. The polish dries out after several uses but it’s so cheap that I don’t care. It dries really fast that I don’t ding my polish which always happens with regular polish. It stays on really well.
    I don’t use it on my finger nails. I use Dazzle Dry and my nails are much healthier because of that.

    • @TheSalonLife

      Why not Dazzle Dry on your toes? Do you get the white spots on toes from constant polish wear?

    When I first used YSL and Dior polishes I felt like they practically polished themselves. That Sally Hansen top coat is one that I purchased in bulk! It is the business but it needs copious amounts of thinner. I use gel polish now but I still have my expensive polishes.

    VERY encouraging to see you struggling and disliking the SH insta-dry for the same reasons I did -- I just started painting my nails regularly and wanted to save time and money. I feel like I was never good at paining my own nails, but these make me look .... very unstable.

The comment won’t allo to place a link I will place it in a separate comment and it I’ll probably will be siting in comments waiting for your approval. I don't understand people who pay you good money for a professional manicure, but aren't willing to spend the time it takes to get it done right. That's as dumb as going to a salon to dye your hair, and thinking it will take only 30 minutes. Not how it works! If you can afford the manicure, you can afford to set aside the ime it takes for the professional to do her job. Sheesh, if nothing else, set aside an hour + travel time to get your money's worth!
    As for the polishes, I only got Insta-Dri to apply without frustration after three full manicure tries. I don't have very many colors of Insta-Dri, but now that I have the hang of them, I might get more. I will say that you're right about the brush working better for self-application. I did my elderly mom's nails after I had the technique down, and there was another learning curve with applying for someone else compared to myself. I've also experimented a bit, and found that base coat (Orly Bonder) helps with both the application and the longevity of the manicure.
    Also, never use that red/orange bottle stuff from Sally Hansen. It's been around since probably the 70s or 80s, and it's always been terrible. I've never had it applly well, and it will bubble if you look at it funny. If it's about sticking with the Sally Hansen line, they have an Insta-Dri clear coat that has a much better formula. The Color Therapy topper also works well with Insta-Dri, but drying takes lomger.
