  • How I made a mostly stock 2016 Camaro SS A8 competitive. This video intoduces a new side of the 16 Camaro SS. Last time I filmed this car it was racing down the drag strip shooting for 11.9 stock then I got hooked on auto cross and track days. I knew the 6th gen Camaro was a good track car but didn't realize a regular non 1le or zl1 would do this good. Follow along as we take this A8 16 Camaro SS as far I can and grab a win in GT class at the Optima Search for the Ultimate Streetcar. We will be at Holley LS Fest west 2020, lots of autocross events, several track days, Camaro Con 2020, and at least 3 Optima events in 2020. For this year our next stop is the invite only SEMA race where the ultimate street car is crowned. We are WAY out gunned here but looking for a top 5 in class. Which would be a huge win against some very talented drivers and extremely while engineered cars. Next year I shoot for my goal of winning an event. This car will be getting some new aero and more power soon! Makes sure to subscribe and comment so we can get to know each other.

    I have a 2016 SS with MRC. Should I get 1LE sway bars or leave them stock if I'm running PS4s in 285F 305R ? My thought is since the PS4s are less grippy than the stock 1LE tires, maybe I should stay with the stock SS bars.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  3 года назад

      I think the BMR or hotchkis adjustable bars set on full stiff rear and middle front would help the car rotate a lot better in slow speed stuff. Maybe slightly twitchy and you could dial back the rear to help reduce oversteer. The ps4 is a decent grip tire and being that it is still staggered, when you push to the limit it'll understeer corner entry. With the stock or 1le bars. You could leave stock front and do 1le rear too. With the stock bars you can get really aggressive on corner exit without oversteer but coming into turns and mid corner is the issue. If only street driving then doing 1le bars will make it a little nimble tossable on the streets and more fun.

      @@ClaytonYatescarenthusiast been a while, now I'm getting into auto cross. The season is almost over but I'm going to invest in a set of wheels and tires. The thing is I need the tires to serve as double duty, summer street driving and autox. I'd like to get some good life out of them. I'm still confused on what to do. Will the 305 tires clear everything on 19s in the front? New rotors every couple of events? Is that something I should be prepared for?

    Awesome car! Maybe I’m biased because I have one myself😂 question though..how was you able to fit 19x11 on the front? What was the offset? Did you have to grind down the struts to fit it? I assume you running spacers. I’m getting started doing track days but to be safe I thought about the 19x10 and 19x11 figment apex recomended for direct fit with front 285 and rear 305

      Hey man thanks! Makes me happy to hear others are tracking the 6th gens, unbelievably good car on track! The et11 fit in the front with no spacer or modifications. I did grind my struts but for other wheels. Would this still fit without? I believe so but not 100% certain. • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  4 года назад

      @@ParissaKhoury yes exactly. You can run et43 with a giant spacer in the front but that's a little sketchy if you're really driving the car hard. But makes rotation easy. I did that with a different set of wheel. Still don't recommend it though. Better off going with correct offset and taking tires off to rotate.

    Question, not sure if you mention this, but did you have to put camber plates on the front end of the car?

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  4 года назад +1

      I didn't but should have and will at some point. There's a spot you can grind on the struts and get more camber out of the front. Stock you can get -2.0 pretty easy and I think with grinding got it at -2.4-2.5

    • @amirabujaber8387
      @amirabujaber8387 4 года назад

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  4 года назад

      @@amirabujaber8387 yes the wheels and tires fit but very close. I ground a spot on the struts cause it was so tight but even before grinding they fit. If you go to purchase some let me know and I can get you a good price.

      @@1LETrackPerformance yes I came across them and asked them several times finally they agreed 👍. To me Apex is the type of company that makes it possible for guys without huge budgets to race in competition. To fit a giant tire front the other option would be forgeline and those are $1500-2000 a piece, way overpriced to me.

      I thought about getting their strut kit but I'll do coilovers in the near future. I would probably go that route if I wasn't using it for competition and just did track days and or autocross.

    Are the sway bars the same to better than the 1le sway bars?

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  4 года назад +1

      The 1le sway bars are not adjustable. The Hotchkis sway bars have 3 setting for front and 3 for the rear. And are easy to make changes to. Even on the softest setting they likely stiffer than the 1le bars

    hey man i just subbed, i am looking to buy a new car next month. and its between the camaro 2ss and a new mustang gt premium. The thing is i want to keep this next car i buy, just having a hard time picking which one is more reliable in long term ? any help would be great or a video about how reliable your camaro has been

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  5 лет назад

      Man both are great. The A8 transmission in the Camaro is known for issues. I've had none but others do. The mustangs are known for bottom end issues. Both are still good options. If I bought another I would get a 19+ SS Camaro cause has the new a10 transmission.

      Some easy stuff to start is always nice. If you're more into handling then nice quality set of lowering springs like eibach or yzx. If performance then cold air intake and e85. If looks wheels and tires. Wheels and tires help every area of the car as well but can get really pricey. Apex makes the best bang for the buck wheels
