thanks for cranking out the videos.. Right now I run 19x11 ET35 SM10 all around with the studs and spacer up front. After watching this, I'm thinking maybe I should have gone 18"... I don't know if those will have clearance issues with the stock MRC dampers though. its 2lbs less per corner not including the smaller tires

The difference between the 18s and 19s as far as lap times is probably small. I'm going to test it though. The 18s are maybe faster in corners but lose a little braking performance. There's reasons Porsche's have 21 inch wheels cause there's some advantages to larger wheel diameter. Also advantages to smaller. I've over thought this for about a year. Looked at it from every angle and talked to a lot of people. No straight answer except lap times don't lie so gotta test. Then gotta test it autocross cause what's faster road course isn't always faster autocross. Thanks for the comment!!

What tire do you like to run. I like the sc3s but id like to trying something thats not assimetrical. Are those rt660s in the video?

Apex sucks especially the flow formed, Bc Forged or bbs is way better but weld wheels is one of the best

Also 2 questions, off topic but I just recently joined the scca and looking to spend more time at track events. Any recommendations on must have mods to help with reliability? And your favorite brake pad? Thank you 🙏

Reliability just more regular maintenance. If automatic trans fluid more like 10 k miles and rear diff after every few track days. Autox rear diff can go 6 months or so. Oil after every 2 track days. These are just examples but you get the idea. Now for brake pads it depends on track day or auto cross. Auto x the stock pads work dang good. Track days the stock pads are really surprising too but hard track days are tricky, you'll need at minimum powerstop track day pads, literally the name of the pads (track day). Or all the way up to something like carbotech xp8 or xp10 or even raybestos st43 race pads, which is an aggressive race pads that's horrible for the street. Brake pads should only be upgraded once overheating starts cause every step up in heat range comes with other draw backs. Definitely change fluid though. I run motul 600 and now just switched Castrol srf racing fluid. Best is Castrol. BTW ask 10 different racers best pads and probably get 10 different answers. I still run stock zl1 1le pads which are same as zl1 pads on record setting laps. But that's time attack where only 2 or 3 laps. And zl1 pads on ss so lighter car than zl1. Autox no worry stick with stock.

@@ClaytonYatescarenthusiast yeah Powerstop track day is what I used for my other car. So just simple stuff like bleeding the brakes before, swapping fluids frequently and watching the life of the brake pads. Got it 👍 Have you heard of the lifter failure issue? Is it blown out of proportion or recommended to replace for track use? BTW I just got 2 wheels using your link, I'm getting the other 2 along with some other parts in a couple weeks

What is your opinion on running 19x10 front with 275/35 or 285/35 or 295/30 (depending on tire brand) with 19x11 with 305/30 on the rear. I am just getting into autocross and want a set of apex wheels so I dont wear down my daily tires. I am not trying to be the absolute fastest and I dont want extreme poke on the front wheel. My other option is try to do 19x11 on front and rear and run 305/30 square. I dont think I want to use a 1.5" spacer to just fit that. Any thoughts would be awesome!

Yes sir I totally understand where you are thought wise with your situation. Here's what I've learned over the years. Even though you're just getting into it you'll always know you left quite a bit on the table if you don't get the 305 30 19 square on 11" wheels. That's a very fast setup and really helps balance the car. Just doing 10" front and 11" rear will be better than stock but it's leaving a lot to be desired. No doubt you can go fast on the smaller front but already spending the money might as well get the best bang for your buck. And they don't poke much. That's my opinion some people think they do. But you have the stock wheels for looks. If cost is a factor than don't not upgrade cause the 10 front isn't good enough. It is. You'll be happy with either but faster and more confidence on the 19x11 square. Or even 18x11 square. That's a whole other topic... good luck and if you feel like I was any help please buy using link in description. Apex sponsors my car a little and it helps me let them know I'm worth sponsoring. Winning apparently isn't enough lol. Thank you btw and good luck. Auto x and track time is massively fun!

Hey man thanks for the content. I'm actually in the process of getting wheels for my SS. I'm pretty set on 19s apex sm-10s. The 11s poke up front looks a bit too aggressive to me, is there any advantages to going squared aside from being able to rotate tires & extend their life cycle? I don't mind staggered especially since the 1le is setup that way. Was thinking 10 in front, 11 in rear...

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast

The square setup will be faster. Not so much about wear and rotation that's just a nice bonus. It's actually more about maximum front grip and max rear but not biased towards rear. More equal between front and rear if that makes sense. Not all cars are this way but a lot are. The camaros and mustangs benefit more from square setup. You'll reduce understeer going square. Not to say a staggered setup can't be fast because it definitely can be just not as fast as square. To me the 11 front doesn't seem to have too much poke but I do almost no street driving. If you go 10 front 11 rear then upgrading the rear sway bar will help some. There's so much more to it though and definitely not required with 10 front 11 rear. Again you can get really fast on 10 front 11 rear, heck you can get fast on 8.5 front and 9.5 rear. I wish someone would have told me in the beginning that going fast just requires decent tires and lots of seat time. A good driver on 10 front and 11 rear will be way ahead of a medium driver on 12 square. Spend money on driving school or more auto cross and track days. If you buy apex wheels use my link to go to the website. I get a small fee affiliate link payment. And I use that for more track time money 😆. Thanks man and good luck. Love to hear about more people getting into track days and autocross. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

@@ClaytonYatescarenthusiast thanks will do, I'll definitely use the link. I have some track experience in my 08 G35 (4 autocross events and 3 different road course events). The SS feels all around so much better bone stock than the G and it was pretty heavily modded for the track. I'm excited to see what it can do! Have you upgraded your lifters? I hear a lot of people do that as a preventative maintenance

@@joshuagorman7856 just from my experience..... I ran stock 1LE wheel and tire sizes on my non 1LE SS. At the limit, there was quite a bit of understeer with those sizes and stock sway bars. I'm new to this and overdrove most of the time, so that contributed to it also. This season I'm gonna try RT660s in 305/30/19 square, and if there is still understeer, I will do sway bars. A lot of guys are running Hotchkiss front bar with a BMR rear to neutralize the balance, so I'll probably try that.

@@WHERESSS interesting, I might just bite the bullet and get a squared setup. Why the hothchkiss front and BMR rear? Aren't the Hotchkiss adjustable?
