      Hi bumble bee thanks for your amazing videos!
      Quick question that confuses the heck out of me regarding the percentage of emulsifier at 5:03 you mentioned (1% for every 4-5% oils) however on your slide it’s says 5%/15g 🧐 I don’t understand the 15g… if the formula is 70/30 for 100g than the oil phase is 30g correct? Which means the emulsifier should be 4-5% of the 30g?which would be 30g divided by 4 or 5= 7.5g or 5g emulsifier??
      I’m lost 🥺

      I'd start with the resources on this page: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/where-can-i-learn-more-about-lotion-formulation/. This video/its partner blog post are included there.
      I'd start with the basic formulation to get a handle on making emulsions before getting too far into the concepts in this video-though they're an excellent thing to understand as you work!
      You can also search "super simple" at www.humblebeeandme.com/search for quite a few super simple formulations. The posts contain lots of information about the "whys" of each type of formulation that I couldn't fit in the video.

    20% oil + emulsifier at 25% of the oil phase
    Heated water phase
    67.25g | 67.25% distilled water
    5g | 5% sodium lactate (USA / Canada)
    Heated oil phase
    6.75g | 6.75% Ritamulse SCG (USA / Canada / UK / AU)
    20g | 20% medium chain triglyceride
    I couldn't understand how to calculate the Emulsifier percentage. It states 25% of the oil phase (20%). That is 33.75%. Then I realised the emulsifier is included in the oil phase. Confusing 😮
    6.75/20= 0.3375 and 6.75/26.75=0.25

    • @bronwyn6704
      @bronwyn6704 23 дня назад

      I rather go with the 1:4 ratio and use 5% emulsifier. 20/4 =5 and 5/20 =0.25 makes more sense to me

    I’m confused on your usage range of the emulsifiers. In your non greasy hand lotion you are using 7% emulsifiers (emulsifying wax NF & Cetearyl alcohol) with 9% mid chain triglycerides. With your formulation of 4-5% oils = 1% emulsifiers there should be roughly 2% emulsifiers. Why is it more than 3 times higher than what you recommend?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  10 дней назад

      Because this video is older and I learned new things between the two videos :) go with the newer recommendation!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  9 дней назад

      (Also, cetearyl alcohol is not an emulsifier, it's a fatty thickener-don't include it as part of your emulsifier amount)

Imagine this, I skipped the video on spread sheets, lol! Oh boy, now I gotta back track, lol!
