  • Roberto D'Alessio sings 'AY, Ay, Ay,' with orchestra presumably conducted by Lorenzo Molajoli, recorded in Milan on 9 December 1926.
D'Alessio (1893-1975) was an Italian tenor who had a career that spanned the years 1921 to 1937. Subsequently, he taught singing.
The Historical Tenors site tells us, 'Roberto D'Alessio was a distinguished tenor, always favourably received by critics and public. His interpretations were sober, elegant and serious. However, he could never reach the highest places in the tenors rank, perhaps due to the hard competence of tenors with the same class of voice, ''tenore di grazia''.'
I transferred this side from an Australian pressing of Columbia D 1575.

Another recording on your channel that made my day. Goodness me, what great singing, utterly natural, clear, and totally heartfelt. Thank you!

You are finding some real treasures among these Milan Columbia records.
This is some most thoughtful and thought provoking singing. Italianate in the best way.
    Best wishes from George
