for me, it's chevys. i drive a 2012 malibu daily, i know a bunch of people who have chevys, it's honestly worked fine for me, i still don't trust it. i hate this giant hunk of pot metal i loosely call a car. it was running pretty alright with black sludgy oil before i changed it. it has decent traction, mediocre but workable gas mileage, decent parts availability, and every problem i've had has been due to wear parts (tires, batteries), i'm just expecting this thing to spontaneously tear its timing chain apart and blow a piston through the hood any moment.

The meat target has given me a lot of confidence in Winchester's cheap hollow points. And a lot of suspicion for the wild claims about more expensive ammunition.
This video came out at a very appropriate time for me. A few months ago I purchased a Bersa Thunder 380 CC. My initial impressions of the gun were extremely good; I found it easy to use, comfortable to handle, I liked the action, and I could shoot it accurately. Two weeks ago, that all changed. I was at the range practicing with it and the slide stop fractured. The gun is still under warranty, but UPS and FedEx will not ship guns anymore, even though warranty service shipping is legal. So, that left me with an FFL transfer as the only option, with the combined fees of shipping and transfer being around one hundred dollars. So, I have been debating if I want to spend the hundred dollars and send the gun to get warranty serviced, or if I should just save the money to buy something better. I realized though, that I will never trust that gun again, every time I fire it I will wonder if the slide stop will fracture again. Even if they send me a new one instead of repairing it, I will still wonder if that failure was a one off and I just got unlucky, or if it will happen with that new gun. Even worse, my friend owns a Bersa Thunder 380 (Not the CC version) and three times now a spring has jumped its track in it, rendering it completely non functional. So at this point I want nothing to do with Bersa. After watching this video, and realizing that I will NEVER trust that gun again or any Bersa for that matter, I think I will save the money and put it towards something better.
I really hope we can get a new carrier soon that will carry anything that is legal, along with a video platform that will allow the publishing of any video that is legal and an online shopping platform that will allow buyers and seller to buy and sell anything that is legal. But I suspect at this point hell is going to freeze over first.
If you still want to stay with the 380 pistols, I've heard good things about the P365 in 380. It might be bigger then what you're after, but the nice thing about it is it seems to be able to use the regular 9mm mags. Though I would test each one before you put your life on it, but should still do fine in range practice.
@@johnjanoscrat8000 FedEx. The problem is, to be able to ship a gun through FedEx you must have an FFL and sign a firearms shipping contract with them. So an average person like me cannot do it.

You and audis, is like me and subarus. After me and 3 people i know got engine knocks, couldnt give me one without me selling it or trading it. Also the deer in the background @ 23:00 is awesome. One time while shooting at an outdoor range in Florida at dawn, right before the first siren of the morning went off for the range to go hot, a Florida panther walked through the 75yr range. One of the coolest moments of my life. They shut the range down for 2 hours after that moment, and we were all okay with that.
Paul, I like to listen to you because of topics you speak about (well, guns, obviously) and because you speak very clearly and audibly and thanks to that I can learn English. Besst greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱🇺🇲
I think the view counts speak for themselves. More than twice as many people want the long version as the short one. As long as it's not too much trouble I think having both versions isn't a terrible idea. Though you got 2x as many views on this one as the other, there are still people who prefer the shorter version. I enjoy that you didn't compromise on your vision for the video just to make is shorter.
For some reason, deer seem to love wandering around practice ranges. Just ask Matt from Demo Ranch. Must be that salty taste of lead and copper in the soil.

Thanks for the great video.
That dog story was crazy. I've had to put down two different dogs and a single shot in the base of skull with a .22 lr did the trick. Surviving a shot through the ear with .38 spl is nuts. Glad the dog lived.
I still feel so bad for the dog even thou out lived. I’d never shoot one. I’d kick it if it attacked in the neck or throat if it don’t have a razor blade collar. Never shoot one though.
@@vannlo355 Perhaps. But in my past I took care of the problems I’ve had in numerous occasions with dog attacks with my foot. So based on my personal experience I’d not think it would be different than those and if I saw it differently in a possible future attack then I’d not give my life over for a dog and would shoot it if all else fails. It would break my heart as I see nature as innocent unlike man. But I do see man as more important when it comes to life.
When you were telling us about the cop who shot the threat through the thorax, I half expected you to say the bullet was stopped by the first layer of fleece.

Well if he's right in his lack of trust in them, it shouldn't be expensive (or maybe free?) to find one that someone will deliver to the range to repeat the Using A Car As Cover experiment.
Twice as many people prefer the what you call the long version as the short version. Viewers can feel more confidence in a long version as it has a longer insight radius and affords more time to address the targets.
Paul: "What do you do if your firearm fails to achieve your confidence? " Lonely Island: "I threw it on the grouuuund! I'm not a part of your system! I'm an aduuuult!"
Great vid, Ty. Ditto on Audis.... (Gramps used to say, "There's three things one can't change about man: his politics, his religion, and the car he drives...")
I replaced windshields with my dad for a long time. Audis always had ridiculous over engineered nonsense to take apart before we could remove the windshield. Sad to hear that the problem is so prevalent through time. Love to hear from you sir. 🎉
While I don't own an audi, I think you'd agree that windshields changed a lot over the last 50 years and being part of the integral structure of modern cars. Same goes for sound dampening and all the gizmos that are added. I had my fill of things hard to get to like lately trx-sensors. After I curse for a bit I remember that the most well intentioned designer and engineer may have to deal with someone that screws up everything but has the last word.
Thanks for doing this video Paul! I’ve recently tried getting my wife into firearms for the purpose of self defense for the past few months. I’ve tried getting her into 9mm, .357, and .380. She’s grown quite fond of the Sig Sauer P365-380 despite many “firearm experts” claiming that .380 is not an effective round for home defense. Nevertheless, her grouping on .380 is far and away better than my own grouping on .45 ACP despite having far more experience in firearms than her. I’ve been shooting guns since I was 12 and she started last year. Hardy harr all you want about my inability to group accurately on .45 ACP but I feel much better about her firing accurately at 10 yards with .380 100 grain than I do firing .45 ACP at the same distance. That’s why my home defense gun is a 9mm.
“A hit with a 22 is better than a miss with a 44 magnum.” Masad Aoub. I always start new shooters on 22 and work up till they don’t enjoy it. They will not train with a gun they don’t enjoy shooting. Training is life when the ship hits the fan.

Ok in my defense, this version wasn't available to me until a good bit after I finished watching the short one. I'm grateful for every minute of this version. ALL of the info and education Paul has shared with us is vital, but I'd place this presentation as one of the more important ones he's ever published.
I personally carry a newer, 4-5 year old, rock island armory 1911 fulls size government model, I carry hornady critical duty, +p ballistic tipped hollowpoint, is wilson combat 8 round single stacked magazines. I have fired hundreds of rounds through these magazines with that ammo and that firearm and have had zero failures. I fully trust that firearm with those mags and that ammunition. I've had more then one person tell me its not enough ammo. I know I can resolve any self defense situation with that setup with that amount of ammunition. Having blind faith in your firearm is dangerous, so get out there, put that baby to the test and make it prove itself to you. Keep up the good work Paul!
2:03, the whole reason I watch Paul Harrell videos, from beginning to end, the long version mind you, is so that I can be told what to do. I’ve watched enough Paul Harrell videos to know that I can trust your judgement, sir.
Well I'm definitely that guy. The only two calibers that I'm perfectly comfortable with are the 357 mag and the 45 acp . I've got a Ruger EC9s 7+1 micro 9mm, but I very seldom carry it anywhere outside the house. I know that it's 100% reliable, hits where I aim it and has the "best" self defense rounds available. But I've had mixed results when dealing with garbage bandits. Sometimes it only takes a single round, but other times it takes several rounds. My 45 on the other hand has always done the job with a single round using high quality HPs. I've also put over 1400 rounds through my 4" aluminum frame 1911 45 in two years with exactly four malfunctions and all four were the result of using a cheap ProMag seven round mag. With my Chip McCormick eight round mags, that little 1911 has run every kind of ammo I could get my hands on, from Browning FMJs to steel case Russian FMJs and everything in between. 185 gr,200 gr,210 gr,220 gr and 230 gr FMJs and HPs. I know that it will always go boom every time I pull the trigger. I trust my life completely with pistol. I've never trusted a 9mm and I never will. And I'm not going to change my mind. Every woods hunter knows that at close range, a big heavy bullet traveling at modest speed will drop a deer faster than a small light bullet going much faster. I've seen that with my own eyes several times. A cousin I used to hunt with always carried a 270 Winchester with 130 gr bullets and I always carried a Marlin 336 in 30-30 with 170 gr Remington Core Loked bullets. We killed several deer together and the majority of the time, the deer he shot would run several yards while the ones I shot in the same place dropped right where they stood. Mine had less meat damage also. The statistics charts also show that a 45 has a higher one shot stop rating than a 9mm. The king of one shot stop ratings is the good ol 357 mag. Since it's been around since 1935,there's a huge amount of data to back that claim up. Actually, that's the caliber I wanted most when I got enough money to buy a high quality carry gun. Unfortunately that was in 2020 . I went to every gun shop in my little town and the only 357s that I could find were Taurus snubbies. I refuse to trust my life with a Taurus. Ever. I really wanted a Ruger GP100 357 with a 4" barrel. I'd settled for a S&W,but in 2020 the pickings were very slim here in the NC mountains. So when I found a Springfield Range Officer 1911 45, I grabbed it. I just barely missed the same pistol except that the one I missed was a full sized, steel framed model. That would have been my choice. +P rated and then I would have ordered a Wilson Combat 45 Super barrel and spring and a 460 Rowland conversion. That would have been a great all purpose rig. You can shoot standard 45 acp in a 45 Super barrel and switch to the 460 for deer hunting and black bear defense. For anyone that's not familiar with the 460, it's got more energy than a 44 mag and leaves the 10mm in the dust. Plus it's a heavier, larger bullet diameter. Even Alaskan guides are starting to go with the 460. Well, maybe someday. It ultimately comes down to what each individual feels like what's appropriate for their particular lifestyle. I love all guns, but I will always be a 357 and 45 man when it comes to my EDC. That's what makes our community so great. So many choices and never enough money to get em all. Another great video Paul. I look forward to the next one.
Watched the shorter version for RUclips algorithm. But I prefer the longer version and the better analytics shows so does everyone else. More views and more engagement. Keep doing what you do Mr Harrell.
The long versions are my favorite. They have all the information that I crave with all the nuisances I've come to expect(Shatner pauses, transposed syllables, and long-winded stories). You're the best and my favorite RUclipsr!! Your lessons are invaluable. Thanks for all you do!
What I like about your videos is, I learned not only things about some guns and how to operate them more accurately. I learned also something about myself too. The quotes and anecdotes are kinda gold, if you are open minded. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe and take care, everybody.🤗
Love those anecdotes. Best attribute you can have growing into your twilight years is the ability to change your mind and grow as a human being. If you can't change, you can't grow. The one thing I love about children. Their minds are still malleable. The saddest day in a human being's life is when they grow to an age where their brain grows so rock hard that no more valuable information is permitted entry.
I have always enjoyed the way you present information. I spent almost 18 years in the Army. So the last 6 I carried the Beretta M9. At first I didn't have a lot of faith in the caliber. I had seen the results of the over pentation. As I became more familiar with the weapon and caliber I developed trust and faith that when I pulled the trigger it would fire. I never had a malfunction with the Beretta. Before that I was issued a M203 and absolutely loved it. I'm not a big fan of the 5.56, but it's what I had so it was what I used. I'm sorry for rambling. Now my choice is a S&W 40 caliber. I also like the 357 mag.
There is no substitute for having confidence in your gear; I get rid of guns I can’t trust. I’ve had a few that required some patience and work to iron out problems but in the end I was able to make them trustworthy…by my standards. As we all know guns are mechanical things and subject to predictable failure modes. These generally occur very early or very late in their lifespan. Their useful life (read: trustworthy) can be extended by periodic maintenance and common sense. Great video.
I'm beginning to lose trust in 357 revolvers, because I recently had one go out of time and another develope end shake. I might be sticking to 38s and 9mm in the future.
Once again, you have not won a prize, that's a scam. There has also been people impersonating me, asking for donations. That's a scam too.

Welcome. This man is a treasure, as well as a treasure trove of information.
You've stumbled upon an outstanding gun channel, the best on YT in the opinion of many people.
It's now been 2 weeks, we are assuming you have watched numerous Paul Harrell videos and you're hooked.
😊
@SP Conrad you ain't lying lmao that's exactly what happened to me
Welcome to one of the best channels on RUclips
In a day & age where most RUclips videos are no longer than 5 minutes, it's great to have a video with just pure quiet nature and a one-on-one from the narrator. A video which takes a step back and slows down. Thank you!
I very much suspect that folks here have a longer than 'average' attention span ;-)
You are the Bob Ross of firearms instruction and teaching of (a)-typical survival measures.
Thank you for all you do.
This is such a good analogy.
'And today we're going to be painting happy targets, with with pork ribs, and oranges. And woeful trees, for good measure.' 🌴 🐷 🍊 🎄
Paul, I want you to understand that anyone who sees this is watching YOUR video. They've come to listen to you talk. That's the only reason they're here.
"I've killed two deer with it"
Deer In background: 0.o
When the deer realizes he's going to be the meat target
"I've killed two deer with that ammunition." Deer in the background looks up suddenly. You just can't plan that.
I have great trust in Paul's beliefs related to firearms
Hopefully this little experiment proves to Paul we really do enjoy listening to him go on ad nauseam, Shatneresque ……. pauses … and all.
You can tell this man loves to talk and he loves to teach and we all love to listen rip my dude
You call it the "long version" but those of us who know better will be watching the "extended cut" of both the long and short versions, even though the one will cover all the info of the other. Keep 'em coming, Paul!
I think we’re all “that guy” in some aspect of our lives. Great stuff Paul, as usual!
Yea, commentary session discussions of any polemic video can prove that.
for me, it's chevys. i drive a 2012 malibu daily, i know a bunch of people who have chevys, it's honestly worked fine for me, i still don't trust it. i hate this giant hunk of pot metal i loosely call a car. it was running pretty alright with black sludgy oil before i changed it. it has decent traction, mediocre but workable gas mileage, decent parts availability, and every problem i've had has been due to wear parts (tires, batteries), i'm just expecting this thing to spontaneously tear its timing chain apart and blow a piston through the hood any moment.

a lot of newer dodge trucks had their designs updated which caused issues of not getting oiled enough on bearing surfaces, some cummins (dodge) motors in the late 2000's and early 2010's would snap their crank shafts. new cars are made of overpriced pot metal, and all of them (hyperbole, just most of them) made after 2015 have DRM on all their parts which can brick the car during PMCS.

So a question arises, whom does the FFL use to ship and receive firearms?????? All the Best! "The JJ" SW Penna.
@@johnjanoscrat8000 FedEx. The problem is, to be able to ship a gun through FedEx you must have an FFL and sign a firearms shipping contract with them. So an average person like me cannot do it.

The "long" version is still too short! I can listen to Paul for hour's. 🇺🇸
Exactly.. No such thing is a long version for Paul.
@RUsty241986, You are very close. I listen to Paul for hours. You listen to Paul for hour's. Does the apostrophe make you possessed? It certainly doesn't make hour plural.
@Ron Rodgers, you do realize that you're being "that guy" when you comment on peoples spelling/grammar in a you tube comment section...right?
@Ron Rodgers Hours. With that correction, i hope you can move on and get a life instead of scrolling through RUclips and looking for rogue apostrophes.
He's right to be irritated by misplaced apostrophes.
It indicates stupidity and laziness that shouldn't be tolerated.
This is the only channel where I will never skip a video regardless of how long it is. Love the content, Paul
Same here.
I don't care what the topic is. It can be a gun I know that I will never buy I still watch and learn watching Paul put it though its paces.
After watching the short version I'm ready for the long one.
After watching the long one I'll probably watch the short one to see what the difference is.
The timing belt on Subarus is a known weak point. Besides that I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that couldn’t go 200k easy.
I didn't even consider "the short version" I want as much of Paul as I can get.
That is also exactly what she said
ay yo
Paul, I like to listen to you because of topics you speak about (well, guns, obviously) and because you speak very clearly and audibly and thanks to that I can learn English.
Besst greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱🇺🇲
It's Paul Harrell. I'll be watching both versions.
(Just watched the Short Version and now I'm watching the Long Version).

In the age of 'information overload', it's always good to just get re-grounded in basic sensible principles. Another excellent presentation.
This is one of the most intellectual comment sections I've ever encountered. You draw a smart crowd, good sir.
Also, what a blessing and inspiration it is to have found your banter on particular subjects. I enjoy hearing your thoughts and opinions. Thank you.

For some reason, deer seem to love wandering around practice ranges. Just ask Matt from Demo Ranch. Must be that salty taste of lead and copper in the soil.

Paul, you are a national treasure. Thank you for the unparalleled insights and education that you provide us here in your videos. You're a fine man, Sir. The nation needs more men like you. (Plus we all love your equally unparalleled humor!)
I would love to listen to an hour long video of Paul talk about gardening. I know nothing about gardening, but I want to learn, and Paul makes things easy to understand.
I'm not surprised: I watched two of his videos on starting a fire.
I was a guy who was a “revolver” guy growing up and in to my 40s (Im in my 60’s now)then I bought my first semi auto handgun and spent hours at the range shooting so I came to like them.. 1911’s are my fav’s, although I still love shooting revolvers so I just have both and enjoy shooting.. Thanks for the great video.
I bought my first auto loader at couple of years ago, but I'm still working to develop the trust in it that I have in my revolvers.
You graduated from 175 year old technology to 125 year old technology.
Hey, that's something!
I just really like revolvers tho
That dog story was crazy. I've had to put down two different dogs and a single shot in the base of skull with a .22 lr did the trick. Surviving a shot through the ear with .38 spl is nuts. Glad the dog lived.
I still feel so bad for the dog even thou out lived.
I’d never shoot one. I’d kick it if it attacked in the neck or throat if it don’t have a razor blade collar.
Never shoot one though.
As always regardless of the caliber, shot placement is king.

Perhaps.

Based on my roommate's Audi... nothing has changed
Great vid! Loved the deer during the mod 15 segment!
Let's get all the Patreon people to buy Paul an Audi. Should be a fun video.
What is the over/under on how long it would take Paul to sell the Audi and reinvest the proceeds in new firearms, ammo, and reloading components?
Well if he's right in his lack of trust in them, it shouldn't be expensive (or maybe free?) to find one that someone will deliver to the range to repeat the Using A Car As Cover experiment.
We miss you paul.
As a former avid anti-glocker; these words strike deep!
Came here for the dawn of time explanations, Shatneresque pauses, and endless anecdotes. I am happy.
Highly recommend this long/short version. Not only do you get 2 videos but I'd bet different people will watch either or.

Thank you sir. Out of all the long format on YT yours are the only ones I watch end to end.
Damn. That was the best explanation of why you should let people have their own opinion that I have ever heard.
From my experience working on an Audi, you have to jack up the car and take off the wheel and wheel well just to change the headlight bulbs.
Just here to rewatch another great video. Thank you and RIP Paul.
Terminal ballistics only count when you actually hit the target.

The short version was great also. I recommend both.

Watch both and then you be the judge.
It’s so easy to respect this man.

Always good to hear from you paul.
This is when I met Paul at the gun show he talked about in the beginning of the video. He was such a great guy
"six-inch forty four magnum, seek professional help"... okay, that made me smile.
"Do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk???"
I like a guy that says “you figure it out.” Good one Paul!
Before that I was issued a M203
and absolutely loved it. I'm not a big fan of the 5.56, but it's what I had so it was what I used. I'm sorry for rambling. Now my choice is a S&W 40 caliber. I also like the 357 mag.
You swapped the M203 for an M9? And a roll of duct tape I hope.
@@Kraakesolv not exactly, I was promoted into a TI slot.
