How could you dislike this? The video is exactly what it claims to be in the title (A drum cover of "Tempting Time"). It is played flawlessly. It provides camera angles that show you how to play it. I don't understand...
I agree. A large portion of the population enjoys cookie-cutter music that requires little-to-no talent to write and play (ie. 99% of what you hear on mainstream radio). It's these people that dislike music that requires a high amount of skill and theory (ie. Animals Against Leaders). The dislikes are probably from people that have this mind-set: "This isn't a common 4/4 beat, with bass drum on beats 1 and 3 and snare on 2 and 4, therefore I dislike. I'm gonna listen to [Insert name of this weeks' flavour-of-the-week band name]".
AidWoW not that I'm a fan of mainstream music but don't say it doesn't require talent, because it does. Whether it's a singer or rapper, talent is needed because I would be a mainstream artist if anyone could do it. But that's the thing, not everyone could do it because you wouldn't know how to. All forms of music is art and don't bash it because you don't like it, definitely don't call it talent less
Dear Mr.Troy Wright, I am a 16 year old drummer and i love watching your covers, they show equal proportions of playing the song "note for note" and personal input. All aspiring drummers should watch your videos, you play the way a drummer should; sheet music at hand(if needed), keeping time with your left foot(hat pedal) and clean tight hit locations with a loose grip for those ghost notes. You are quite the body builder too and being from australia makes you that much more bad ass. Sincerely, sub
I got most of my deals with the brands i use before i started any videos on youtube. You have to make sure you can offer them more than they can offer you.. Exposure is the main thing. Other than my online presence I have always had almost 50 drum students a wk and performed 3-5 shows a wk etc
4 seconds into this cover and it's one of the best covers I've seen on any instrument for any genre. You did a sick ass job on this man. On the video and the cover.
Far beyond technique, here is mastery. More style, comfort, ease, than most of drummers playing this song (including Navene). It's really pleasant to see how you're just having fun with this masterpiece.
@real1acer yeah man the only way i can play this sort of music is to write is out, learn what rhythms are going on and play through it... playing it slower doesn't really help me though, most of this stuff feels completely different at slower tempos
I'm so glad you played the accents on the hi-hats correctly from 2:50-3:33. Those accents make that section much more complex. I wish Navene from AAL played it that way too. Major props dude!
Endless respect for your transcriptions. Tons of people do these drum cover videos, but none of them take the time or make the effort to transcribe. It's essential! Great playing as well.
@drsteve0487 thanks man. The section you mention is 3 repeated bars of 4/4 with the accented looping hihat part then the kick and snare just come in underneath. i wasn't even comparing my sound to the track. i knew i need a stack so i just experimented with what cymbals i was fortunate to already have.
You are a true inspiration Troy! I have always liked how both your feet are in constant motion and therefore I have started to move my left foot while playing! It's quite hard to do the 8th notes with it so far ,specially while playing tricky beats, but I will get the hang of it! Thanks for all the videos and I hope you never stop. Cheers!
Every time that I look up the internet to see if someone has done an outstanding cover of an amazing and advanced song composition, one of two things tends to happen: - Can't find it. - Troy has done it. It's pretty much how I found out about him a while ago. It's an interesting pattern, because it pretty much tells you that he can perfectly replicate ANYTHING that he decides. I'd kill someone for that talent...
An absolute inspiration, Troy! Always a pleasure watching the covers and lessons online. I can't help but hope that one day you could tackle a Dillinger song + a lesson? All the best mate from a fellow Queenslander Justin
@wrightdrums I think what Xiphos707fx meant was that some of the snare strokes formed flams together with bass drum - especially the three snare accents after 5:01. But I myself don't see it as a big deal. There's no rule saying that kick/snare flams are wrong. They don't ruin the groove here. It actually sounded kinda cool.
Completely flawless, well sounding and stable. You're a great drummer, and I'm sure you work very hard to keep up your playing and transposing skills. I wish you all the best!
your talent in unbelievable, you are one of the best drummers ive ever seen, ever cover i watch it becomes the best ive ever seen. troy you should be so much more famous then u already are! I might have to track u down and ask for drum lessons seeing i live in australia too. but im sure your already full haha
@SabianTamaDrummer its actually a dw clutch... i dont even need it because i've never played my main hihats when i've played double kick. it's more comfortable to play aux hats
Freaking awesome dude!! Just got into AAL earlier this year and have really been in awe of their level of talent and songwriting. Keep up the great work!
You're seriously the best drummer on RUclips. You make it look SO easy. It's insane how relaxed you look when you play. Oh and can I get a copy of your workout plan??? I wanna be jacked like you.
@crazzzymike69 bleed was the hardest to learn and remember mainly because it was a double kick endurance thing as well. you can get all the transcripts at wrightdrums(.)com
Thanks again for another amazing cover video and one of another of my favorite band, AAL. I love it wen you do songs like this it gives other musicians like myself inspiration to keep trying harder and it also teaches me a lot about rhythm just watching you. If you have time to, do some more AAL songs. I can't wait for friday so I have money to buy the new album weightless.
@J05hA Thanks a lot mate. I actually transcribed it a while ago. It wasn't until i booked some studio time where i hooked in with the practice.. Having said that tho i still had to read some parts on this take lol
@BennyVengeance888 Thanks man. It's an 18" legacy... I love the Xtremes but have never used them because i dont think the cut enough live. I have my eyes on a 20" legacy ride and 19" artisan as crashes :). go to wrightdrums (.) com and go to the gear page if you want more info
that is insane. You must eat drums for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You must live and breathe drums every minute of your day. Go to sleep with them, and bang them in the morning through your entire day. Practising, teaching, rehearsing, recording, gigging, touring. You probably practise more than the average touring musician. That's great man, you're living a drummers dream, but it must be insane amounts of dedication and work to do what you do...
It's really slow when starting out. Take the kick/snare pattern as its own thing and leave the cymbals out, and once you have that down add the cymbals
wrigrdums.com oops, we've all been there, but I just noticed this, which I suppose was bound to happen considering how often I come back to these vids! I really hope catch 33 and Violent sleep medley are gonna land some day. Keep it up man!
You should do more animals as leaders, and transcribe them, cause I cannot find any drum sheet music anywhere that's as accurate as yours.. plus watching and reading and listening all at once does help me hear all the parts easier! big fan, and love the transcribed sheets for animals as leaders drums!
@rhythmkeeper009 Thanks mate. Yeah I borrowed that holy china... It is soooo loud acoustically, nice to stab at. My paragon china is stacked under the ozone crash in the middle :)
Well if a company is going to give you 'x' amount of discount you have to make sure you're able to prove that you can reimburse with exposure (potential sales etc to the public) whether that be through live shows, touring, teaching, anything. I guess that's how it works haha
never heard of you or this band before i saw this clip but that was sooo badass I am subscribing to you and downloading this album immediately from itunes... Thanks for sharing dude!
Awesome cover! I'm a fan of your technique and how you have written out parts. Not many drummers think to have the right technique or just ignore proper playing. Even less write out parts, and it's refreshing to see a drummer playing heavy rock that knows how to read music (not just count). Did you study music?
Troy, I have been a fan for awhile now, and am constantly awaiting new videos. Your style is extremely fluent, and looks effortless even while playing very complex parts. Since I've had 2 kids my time to practice has evaporated, but you sparked a flame to get me back on the kit. I/We appreciate you taking the time to make these great videos. Artists I would recommend: Tesseract, Vildhjarta, and Circle of Contempt. And I'm pretty sure you would love The Reign of Kindo - jazzy. Keep Groovin
@ajdrummer13 The stock felt beaters get cut down quite quick.. The hard demon beaters in my opinion are too heavy and seem to destroy anything they hit.. I feel the quad beaters offer a perfect medium
ah man, amazing cover as per usual Troy, I subscribed recently and will continue to be fore quite a while!! :) love the audio quality and the incredible spot on playing, keep on rocking dude!

AidWoW hahaha, that's so accurate!
probably the usual 1% of people that go to hit like and miss and hit the dislike
AidWoW not that I'm a fan of mainstream music but don't say it doesn't require talent, because it does. Poppa Punker the mixing maybe?

Uriah Graves He doesnt start playing till 22 seconds though
Fur Coat Shhhh
Uriah Graves lmao :))
Dude, seriously. This is the best I've ever seen someone do with this song. Incredible.
Far beyond technique, here is mastery. More style, comfort, ease, than most of drummers playing this song (including Navene).
It's really pleasant to see how you're just having fun with this masterpiece.
This cover still gives me chillssss
@real1acer yeah man the only way i can play this sort of music is to write is out, learn what rhythms are going on and play through it... playing it slower doesn't really help me though, most of this stuff feels completely different at slower tempos
This is real talent. Not many people can even wrap their heads around the off beats and complexity of the music. Great job man, extremely impressive.
I wish I had the time to learn to read music.
This is a perfect example to why I would want to.
You're the man.
this the first spot-on cover i have seen of this song. i give you props. incredible drumming.
1:06 I love this part :D
@wrightdrums thank you so much dude. I think you're the best drummer i've ever seen in my life, keep it up, keep inspiring others to play and improve.
@drsteve0487 thanks man. The section you mention is 3 repeated bars of 4/4 with the accented looping hihat part then the kick and snare just come in underneath. i wasn't even comparing my sound to the track. i knew i need a stack so i just experimented with what cymbals i was fortunate to already have.
you're seriously one of the best drummers i have ever seen. addicted to your vids man. keep it up!
this is absolutely among the best metal drumming videos on youtube
wow
@KlRKhammet 57's are on the snare and rack... I think we used a 421 on the floor... 52 on the kick... can't remember about the over heads :P
That's the best cover I've even seen. Flawless. You did a great job with those polyrhythms, the first time I've even seen so perfectly. Congrats.
Damn, that was awesome, Troy. I do love watching good drummers work.
awesome drumming. im learning a few of their songs myself right now. definetly my favorite music to play right now
Hands down best drummer on youtube in both skill and editing, keep kicking ass
Wow! Awesome playing. Thanks for introducing me to Animals As Leaders, I now have their albums on repeat. I hope there's more AAL covers to come.
Huge congrats for this amazing cover Troy. You clearly work extremely hard and it has paid off! Keep those covers coming :)
I always comeback to watch this vídeo again and it inspires me all the time
The kit sounds superb, the drumming is flawless, video is excellent. best cover no doubt
You are a true inspiration Troy! I have always liked how both your feet are in constant motion and therefore I have started to move my left foot while playing! Jeez... Awesome!!! This and Soraya are my favorites gorgeous songs and album as a whole
man... your technique and fluency are enviable
That is amazing! Very amazing!
Every time that I look up the internet to see if someone has done an outstanding cover of an amazing and advanced song composition, one of two things tends to happen:

It's pretty much how I found out about him a while ago.

Awesome dude, smart buy! Those triple flanges make the drums sound really crisp vs those foam inserts. Cheers!
your technique groove and skill is unbelieveble
An absolute inspiration, Troy! Always a pleasure watching the covers and lessons online. I can't help but hope that one day you could tackle a Dillinger song + a lesson? All the best mate
from a fellow Queenslander
Justin
@EduardoTucciDrums hey mate did you get your answer on facebook? i use sibelius 6 right now (its not tabs tho mate - its 'actual' drum notation)
the part at 3:03 and on, the skill there just shows in your face! Mad props!
A beast!
@wrightdrums I think what Xiphos707fx meant was that some of the snare strokes formed flams together with bass drum - especially the three snare accents after 5:01. @Kudan26 totally man its a great head. What do you think? I actually have a coated cs back on her now
AH pearl reference....some of the best drums out there. stellar playing too
The stack on the right of your kit is heavenly! Great job, man
Completely flawless, well sounding and stable. You're a great drummer, and I'm sure you work very hard to keep up your playing and transposing skills. I wish you all the best!
Tony Wright the snare dum murderer, those pops are violent. Love it

I haven't seen a drumcover done this well on youtube in a LONG time, great job! :)
Great snare sound! Killer cover, as usual Troy!
my god you are incredible man, please never stop.

It took me 1 hour to learn the first 5 bars. Is that slow progress? haha
It's really slow when starting out. Take the kick/snare pattern as its own thing and leave the cymbals out, and once you have that down add the cymbals
I didn't know Bob Marley gave technical drumming advice...
Hows the cover bro?
super dope really like the sound of the snare rest of the kit sounds awesome too great job
Really like the snare sound! Super poppy and woody
Your snare sounds incredible... I want one.
wrigrdums.com oops, we've all been there, but I just noticed this, which I suppose was bound to happen considering how often I come back to these vids! I really hope catch 33 and Violent sleep medley are gonna land some day. Keep it up man!

THAT SNARE! Great Video Troy
This guy is freaking good. Nice cover man !
Your footwork is incredible!
Outrageously good stuff. If I played drums 10 hours a day for a couple of months, I could play like this
Dude...this is simply amazing...
@FiR3CaP3 Thanks dude! I really enjoy your drum covers, and can't wait to see some more. Do you take any requests for songs?
Holy cow this is awesome. And your kit sounds phenomenal.
Easily the best cover of this on youtube, you are sick as all hell.
another legit cover bro keep up the great work, much respect man
man ... I've to tell you that you are scaring! you're amazing!!!

JTR1Cinema yes cloudkicker! I would love to hear do it
ah man, amazing cover as per usual Troy, I subscribed recently and will continue to be fore quite a while!! :) love the audio quality and the incredible spot on playing, keep on rocking dude!
I can't stop to watch this drum cover ! you're amazing ! More please :p
Right on bro i saw the drummer of this band play this tune with the left foot lead i have been working on that for about a week great job
Going along with the endorsement questions...what does Sabian do for you? Do you get a massive discount or what's the gig?
Dude you are the best drummer I've seen on youtube , can you please tell how you practice for chops ?
Great cover-spot on. Drums sound great too
@thisguysucks96 just a straight hi hat stand... was using my other aux hat arm for the china stack :P
Wow awesome man! Loving the work on the 2 sets of hats.
I love that snare drum you're using!
That stack sounds so amazing!
I love watching drum covers. I've never played drums.
