Funny thing happened. I was listening to this (again) while my 4-year old son was playing in his room. All of a sudden, he comes out and says: "I like this music!" "Oh yeah? Nice to hear, son!" I said.. And he replies: "That´s rock n´ roll!" Hahaha! :)
Troy, my hat is off to you. Amazing cover. Looks like you had a ton of fun with this. You put your own twist on this song and it turned out to play in your favor. This is, by far, the best cover of this song on RUclips. Again, fantastic job. Keep posting these covers man. They never get boring, especially when you have so much fun. You can tell you love drumming with the body movement and the minor stick trick. Thank you!!
So I saw at least 6 of these covers of cafo and I need to say that this dude here, is bad ass. Of all the covers I have seen, this one is the best. Looking forward to watching more of wrightdrums covers.
I clicked on the "Like" button after just one minute, because I was sure that I would be proud of you for the other 7 of this drum cover even without watching them. You're amazing Troy, don't stop please!
Cameron Lopez Lol, the whole song is in 5/4, I'm not sure what his right hand is doing, possibly straight 4/4, 8th notes over the 5's the other limbs are doing. Quite frankly this is wwaaaayyyy beyond my level, even Troy's being tested with it...
@@juanvazquez5836 Technically it's one, what he means is having 3 different rhythms going on to create one complex polyrhythm. But a polyrhythm literally means 'many rhythms', in this context at least 2 opposing rhythms, so it's all a single polyrhythm whether it's 2 opposing rhythms or 10. Also Troy is a monster.
This is the first video that made me take drumming seriously and the first video that ever got me into to prog metal so this is a video that I will forever remember because it is a reminder of where my roots come from so thank you so much Troy Wright!!! you are the reason I started drumming seriously cheers mate !!!!
haha yeah mate playing through some of my favourite tunes first (animals and meshuggah happen to be my favourite bands) working on a couple of tool songs right now as well and ill be mixing it up a lot more in the future. thanks for watching!
dimebagdavey i don't think so. troy responded to a comment about it a year or two ago and i think he said it had something to do with traveling issues. i'll try to find the comment for ya.
This is a true testament to the skill of both drummers . if you can hit Bleed note for note then have a few slight hiccups here , that’s speaks in volumes of Matts skill. Loved it !!!
Better than Garstka, Koperweis, and the actual drum programming. You seriously made this song your own, and this is honestly the best CAFO cover I have ever seen.
just a little into six mins or more u just start going nuts thats the magical feeling you get when the music comes to you naturally thank you thank you thank you!
First of you are godly at drums. second of all what impresses me the most , is that you are so comfortable playing in these signatures and rhythms that you can experiment with your own ideas and fills as if you were just jamming in straight time.. Highly impressed. how much time do you take to learn these tunes normally?
Man I was watching these when they first came out, some of my favorite drum covers over here! When I found out that you were with Plini I was super happy about that!!
Out of all your covers, this is by far my favorite! So much sound with so little! Seemed like you were still in the zone at the end. F'n nice work, dude!
This guy did great which is why you guys should give more credit to the genius who fucking wrote it. C'mon how does one even come up with this stuff? Imo the original dude who wrote this is a true musician. Being able to create and express in a way no one ever thought of. That's his identity and its one of a kind. Average drummers dont have that. Matt grastka i think is their drummer. Go sub him. funny guy too.
I think that when someone comes here, he knows who wrote this ( I hope) And there is some little things added to this cover and the way it's played that makes it different and enjoyable. Troy is a real musician ;)
its actually quite simple...Uploads. Troy has not posted a video for 8 months. Casey posts often , providing content that people are willing to watch thus gaining a new amount of active followers each day. I wish Troy posted more as he is a great drummer and we all would love to see more from him. Hope this helped
Guys, the thing at 6:30 is just dotted eighths on the china. Seeing as the song is primarily in 9/4, they fall perfectly into a pattern of 12 hits per measure of 9 quarter notes.
If you are talking about when he hits the snare very lightly (like in the intro roll and throughout most of the song) that is called ghosting or playing ghost notes. They can be used to help keep time or add flavor to a section. So during the intro he accents every other hit with his right hand while keeping the snare going quietly with his left hand through ghost notes.
This smashes me everytime I watch it. So much groove and feel! And the little fill things at 4:30 and 5:25 are awesome you realy milk the impact of those bits and lift the song. Always love to see new covers from you.
hey man, im a drummer and the only thing i really enjoy in life right now is drumming..you really inspired me. You are great. I look up t the disciplinev that you have put into this great art. Respect ma, truthfully.
I've watched all your videos Troy, and this one blows me away. Dave Weckl used to amaze me as a kid growing up. After watching your playing lately, it definitely shows this world's drumming is at a whole new level. Great job. Looking forward to maybe a Thoroughly At Home?... Cheers.
Every youtube drummer needs to pass the test of a CAFO cover
Yeah man. if you cant even play this exact? you are not even a beginner drummer.
i think ill just hang up my drumsticks
jokes xd
but what if you've never used double bass before but you're really gud xd
Cooper drummer 😂😂😂😂
cooperdrummer just wouldn't be the same XD
David Gamero he isn't good enough😂😂😂😂😂😂
5:27 This roll adds so much imo, it really connects those two sections together perfectly
This dude straight up plays metal like a gospel drummer. This is off the chain.
Thats the point of Djent. Its all chops and polyrythms

artw0rk He's off to a great start, liking complex music, such as this. Maybe that's an early indication of a creative musical mind? Lets hope so!
I hope so too! :)
Parenting done right.
Congratulation! Your son is math prodigy!
That says you're a great dad
Best CAFO cover on RUclips by far!
that was funny.lol-
Samuel Pawar
Drummer for Animals as Leaders
@@samuelpawar1100 Drummer for Animals as Leaders AND he didn't write CAFO. But still a legend

Huge level of fluidity and funk you've added to this song with your style
So much joy when i watch an older video, and see how far Troy has come with his playing and production values on his videos.
I want this guy in my band...And I'm the drummer.
🤣

your one of the best drummers ive seen like halpern, portnoy and garstka
Riiiight?
Lmao, portnoy's shit.
He blows them all away..They're all great drummers but this guy's drumming is fucking ON POINT!!
Luke Holland is freakin amazing as well. It sucks he's in one of the worst metal bands on the planet.
Lol portnoy. Overrated as fuck.
So I saw at least 6 of these covers of cafo and I need to say that this dude here, is bad ass. Of all the covers I have seen, this one is the best. Looking forward to watching more of wrightdrums covers.
Troy, Halpern, Gaartska, Alex Rudinger, Neil Peart, they're on a level I'll never get to, but its damn fun to watch
24gadjet Add Travis Orbin to that list and you're set!
Scott Miller holy shit, just looked him up, what the heeell??
Rudinger was a student of his, I believe. Sure shows!
Scott Miller woooow
+24gadjet Don't forget about Anup Sastry and Blake Richardson!

Anyone wanna explain what the hell is going on at 6:30? Is that a polyrhythm osenato on his right hand? Truly worth drooling over.
Yes he's playing a 3:2 polyrhythm on the china.
Ah okay, I was right. Thanks man.
Luke Zuniga Scratch that, I think its actually 4:3
Cameron Lopez

Nicholas Hall lol the song is in 9/4
@troywrightdrums just plays all the covers so tastefully. That left foot is a gift from the Drumming Gods
Thanks mate, i'm glad you like Animals as Leaders and Karnivool both are amazing bands. Tesseract are also amazing!
10 years on and I still love coming back to this vid. Cheers!
1:22 Ahhh yes, I too love having three different polyrhythms going at the same time.

The best drum covers in RUclips !!!
The face at 6:35 is priceless. What a fantastic cover and transcription!
2:41 that ghost note after the main snarebeat is just sweet
Insanely awesome cover, Troy! This is also the best mixing I've ever heard on any of your drum covers as well! Love how powerful the kit sounds!
haha yeah mate playing through some of my favourite tunes first (animals and meshuggah happen to be my favourite bands) working on a couple of tool songs right now as well and ill be mixing it up a lot more in the future. thanks for watching!
It seems like every day I have to listen to this masterpiece by animal leaders....
me too
the clears seem to give my snare more pop... i wont be playing with brushes on this kit anytime soon either haha
this is one of the three covers that i'm watching ten times a week...
but really how is this dude not in a huge name band by now?
+Sam mute
he plays with Plini now. not a "huge name band" but unbelievably talented and I've had the pleasure of seeing them live a couple times now
+Sam mute he's gotten offers from some big bands, such as animals as leaders. not sure why that didn't work out.
+jj ww I thought animals as leaders chose someone else over him. Like, he failed an audition or something.

Every time you cover a song, it becomes the best cover / playing of that song to date. Amazing
Man, this song would be sooooo hard on Rock Band.
You are a real inspiration to me man. I respect your talent more than you could imagine!
How did he manage to look at cafo and say 'nah, not enough fills' !
without a doubt one of the best drum covers on youtube
1:22 I'm not a drummer, but I imagine this is incredibly hard to play
nvm, got to 6:30.
Sebastian Lohneis I can still barely get the time signature right in my head.
13/4 time.
Derp McGrahamCracker I think the polyrhythmic patterns are even more difficult than getting the measure right, aren't they?
Yeah, but it's also important to understand the time signature to understand how the polyrhythm behaves.
This just shows what a great guy you are, replying thankfully when someone has a go for uploading amazing tunes you love to play. Rock on man!
WHAT?!?! How is that humanly possible?
Exactly mn it just doesn't seem possible
Troy would have to be human for that to be true. As we can see, he is not.
one of the thing I like the most in Troy: Give up time by putting gear description in every single video
This song is freaking nuts
Man I was watching these when they first came out, some of my favorite drum covers over here! When I found out that you were with Plini I was super happy about that!!
7:48 fuck all of these cymbals in particular.

So pleased with your free transcripts man! now i can learn the hard stuff step by step. Thanks!
I can just about do what he is doing after 7:50 :P
when u get in a big frenzy playing u just don't want to stop till get tired
Seriously...this is one is one of the hardest shit you can do on drums. And you did it freaking flawless! Big time win!
Someone tell me how the fuck Casey Cooper is getting more views than him?? Troy is unreal
Brother Jauffre don't know . This is a miraclous tragedy
casey's just a big deal now

so hard you can actually hear him slightly rush a snare hit which is the only mistake i could recognize in the video
