  • Episode #12 - Ricoh GR3 and GR3x Jpeg Profiles, Filters, Film Simulations
In this video we examine the built in jpeg profiles/filters, film simulations or whatever else you may call them.
Here are two links to previous videos I made before I started this series where I walk you through creating a custom color profile and a custom B&W profile. These two profiles are the ones I use all the time.

It actually saves not only thumbnail to preview, but whole full size JPEG inside a RAW file. Image viewers on a computer can show it and you also can extract this JPEG using some image viewers or with EXIF tools.

Thank you for all videos! It's immensely valuable to a new Ricoh GR3 shooter like me.
One of the question that I had is regarding the inbuilt ND filter. Is it normal to have a shutter like sound when the nd filter is on auto or On.. its a bit louder than the actual shutter.. and I realised the filter moves up as soon as you fully release the shutter button..
I hope the clicking sound is normal. Thanks once again for the wonderful channel.. cheers!

I can’t say mine is loud… mine is always on auto, and I usually have the sound effects off, so it’s barely audible, but I’m guessing the nd filter is not being used much.

Love your work , This channels the best thing to happen to Ricoh Gr3x users since the Ricoh Gr3 ! Would love to see more on customisable Jpeg profiles. Its a right rabbit hole to go down.
I thought there was only 2 custom Jpeg profiles you can use at anyone time. Saw a post where another Ricoh user has jury rigged the device to have 84+ Jpeg profiles and I get the concept, just not sure how it was done exactly and the downsides in doing so. what other custom Jpeg recipes do you use if any and thoughts on adjusting the whit balance between different jpeg recipes?

I rarely touch the white balance. I have two custom jpeg profiles i use very often (links in the description of Ep. 12). and I will sometimes revert back to the standard color profile when I'm more interested in the RAW files than the jpegs. One way to store more than two custom jpge profiles "could" be to customize a profile then save the entire camera profile to one of the six "BOX" slots (next episode #15).

If you edit a profile, is there any way of knowing what was the default settings without resetting the whole camera?

Yes. Notice the little tick marks along each of the sliding scales (usually at 0). These are the defaults. Just return the sliders back to the defaults.
      Good question!
