Crazy thing about Shaib in his prime was, he would tell the batsman what's coming, the batsman would know, the entire stadium would know - but he was so express fast and swung the ball in the air very close to the batsman that it was very difficult for most batsman.

He had a hyper extendable elbow that meant that in addition to being a great athlete, his arm had a literal whip action when he delivered the ball. That allowed him to generate such extreme speed. Nearly everyone expected that elbow to wear out in a few years but he still ha d an extended career.

Shoaib was one of the most exciting bowlers of all time, him and Brett Lee were I think generally comparable speed wise. Truly fast (Express) bowlers generally use a really long run up and they are essentially at a full sprint at release.
The bowling speed is important, but when you combine that speed with swing (ball curving left or right through the air) it can make them unplayable. A fast bowler who can't get the ball to swing will probably go for a lot of runs.
Also, the intimidation aspect needs to be taken into account... a cricket ball is harder and heavier than a baseball and it's coming UP at you from the pitch with possibly uneven bounce. Normal human beings would be terrified facing someone like Shoaib, even world class batsmen can be intimidated.

Yes, the run up plays into the speed. FYI Spin is different to what you were seeing in this video. Spin blowers are slower and put a spin on the ball so it will turn right or left when it hits the ground. What fast bowlers do in what you know as a curve ball but in Cricket it is called swing when it goes left or right through the air. When it goes away from the batter it is known as out-swing. Into the batter is called in-swinger or reverse swing. Like in Baseball it is how the ball is held but also it also depends on the condition of the ball and weather conditions helps as well, mainly humidity. The older the ball gets it becomes easier to in-swing the ball. The bowlers throughout the game will try to keep one side of the ball as clean as possible, which is why you will see them rub it on their trousers. One side being shiny and one side rough helps with being able to get more swing from a delivery.

    • @hashimrasool
      @hashimrasool Год назад

Reverse swing is something else. It is when the ball starts swinging the other way

This beauty of cricket is the crescendo of a long line of pacers from our country, there are many batsmen that actually admitted not wanting to face him, and his run up is one of the longer run ups. Around 30 yard run-up. Run is the most important for a fast bowlers. The run up can be any length and its up to you as a bowler.

It is amazi g how doctors declared he couldn't ball even before start of his career cz of his knee issues. But he still bowled and oh man he bowlee quick. The best of batsmen were scared of faving him, there are videos of Pointing and other great batsmen telling how he didnt even wanted to take a run so they can avoid facing him. AB devilers, Watson, Donald, Langer and many more have said multiple times how he was the fastest in terms of feel which you also noticed even of he was bowling at same pace as other bowlers he felt fast and intimidating. There is funny video of Bret Lee how he explains the bowl he bowled at 6:52 in this video how he thought Shaoib will kill him and how he wanted Umpire to give him out so he dont have to face him anymore.

Shoaib Akhtar was not just the fastest bowler ever in Cricket (Brett Lee was close) but he was what in the sub-continent we would call Dah-shut (fear producing) bowler. What you are calling spin is "Swing". Baseball has that also by different name. The ball curves out or in while in the air. The best swing bowler is also from Pakistan "Wasim Akram". Pakistan is known for fast and swing bowlers. India is known for its legendary batsmen. Cheers from Florida

The thing you don’t understand is that a leather hardball is very heavy and to bowl it over 100 miles is an feat itself. Anyone who doesn’t understand it let me make it clear imagine baseball being thrown at 168 miles per hour. And baseball throws are without bounce once any type of bowl hits the ground it loses a lot of speed. I leave rest to your imagination!

fast bowlers have always had a run up, but the Pakistan bowlers took it to another level with long fast run ups - intimidation was definitely a factor but also extra speed. the run up pioneer was Waqar Younis - worth checking him too, a legend bowler, he was basically Shoaib's predecessor, but he can swing it more. Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were the pioneers of fast swing bowling, and were the most feared bowling attack in the world, then Shoaib got added to the mix a few years down the line who was even faster.

Spin after hitting the ground is called spin if a spin bowler (slow bowler) does that. They are expers of spin (there are types of spins mainly offspin and leg spin, check it out). If the ball bowled by a fast bowler spins after hitting the pitch/ground its called "seam movement", it requires a lot of skill. Usually the new and very old ball swings in the air before hitting the pitch/ground. Its call swing bowling. This is relativly easier under right conditions. The great bowlers can also swing under difficult conditions where they standout but it all depends on the conditions. Same applies to the seam but i think many good bowlers find it hard to seam as its a different kind of skill.

You guys need to watch the video where Shoaib Akhter opened the face of a great batsman from South Africa then, Gary Kristen...
He hit the ball on his face through the helmet...
Then in Sharjah he hit India's former Captain Saurav Ganguly on the ribs and he was on the ground too...
And if I recall it right, he was even taken to the hospital (you guys can correct me if I'm wrong)...
Lee always had a smiling face...
    But Akhter...
He was like a train coming to you in full speed...
    Scary...

Calcutta 1999 the famous dismissal is missing.
When Shoaib Akhtar famously dismissed Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly with fiery pace.
It was a memorable moment in India and Pakistan cricket rivalry.

One Off field clip I remember was that he cut holes in the toe end of his cricketing shoes as the amount of pressure he put when he landed during delivery on the bowling crease caused his toes to blister or worse due to the amount of force he delivered bowling fast.

Just so you know movement off the wicket with the faster bowlers (also known as seamers or seam up bowlers) is caused by the seam of the ball coming into contact with the pitch causing deviation and depending on how the bowlers angle the seam it will go toward the batsmen or away. Spin is causd by the slower bowlers putting revolutions on the ball so that the revolutions or spin imarted on the ball make the ball deviate off the pitch in the direction of the spin. Swing is what makes the ball curve through the air so that is a different story altogether but you know if it moves through the air it is swing; if it moves off the pitch off the faster bowlers it is seam and deviation caused by the slower bowlers off the pitch with a small run up is spin.

He was fast, furious and lethal a nightmare for the batsmen around the cricketing world and yes for a fast bowler longer run ups help delivering fast but that's not the only factor bowling fast.

his fastest ball was recorded as 161.3 km & that's fast as hell & his long run up is quite helping & he many times told the batsman before dismissing him!! even telling them that he is going for bouncers & injured great batsman Brian Lara & Gary Kirsten for around 6 months bed rest!!

I just came across your video on my timeline and I feel like I want to talk to you about cricket!!! I know your video is from a while back but if you see this comment, search for West Indian fast bowlers, they were known as the greats in the eighties and 90’s. Geoff Thomson of Australia was regarded as one of the all time quickest, but back then they never had speed guns to measure how fast they were.
I’ll list a few a names that were my favourites, in case you’re interested in looking at some more bowlers, so fast, curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, wasim akram, waqar younis, Harris rauf, Allan Donald, dale steyn, Devon Malcolm, there’s loads more but these you’ll enjoy. Just a quick note, some of these were partnerships, so they would bowl one over(6 balls) from each side alternatively. These are fast swing or seam bowlers. Also 80/90’s equipment wasn’t great so, no helmets and unlimited amount of short balls(trying to intimidate/hit the head, now only allowed 1 bouncer in over).
Also look at Shane Warne and muttiah muliritharan, spin bowlers. Greatest of all time.
    Enjoy! 🎁😎

The fact which is very much unbelievable is that his legs wasn’t able to walk until 6 years after birth , but with the Grace of God he became the fastest baller of the world…even before taking his overs doctors made sure to take out all the water from his knees through injections so he could took his turn in the match…these all facts he revealed in his interviews ❤.
