      linking number (Lk) is a topological property that describes the number of times one strand of DNA winds around the other in a closed DNA molecule.
      The linking number is determined by the formula:
      Lk=Tw+Wr
      where:
      Tw (Twist) is the number of helical turns of one strand around the other.
      Wr (Writhe) is the number of times the double helix crosses over itself (supercoiling).
