- Rich Goodwin and his highly modified Pitts S2S displaying at SleapKosh 2023. This Pitts is fitted with two jet turbines which "deliver 700lbs thrust and in combination with the 8.5 Ltr Lycoming, a total thrust of 1700lbs". SleapKosh is a private fly-in for Shropshire aero club members and visitors by air. I am very grateful to have been invited to attend! This footage was shot handheld using a Canon XA11.

Jeez the negative Nellies here. All those years of M.S. Flight Simulator pilots on their P.C.s shows us that they know better than the actual pilot flying the Twin Pitts airplane.
Those jet engines add assist to the main propeller driven engine. The end of the video shows the jets provide enough thrust to taxi the airplane on their own.
The Pitts is a very tiny and light aircraft, not much thrust would be needed to add performance to the main propeller driven engine.
Yeah, I've noticed a lot of negativity in here..... 🥴 In the description of the video I quoted some info direct off the Jet Pitts website which states - This Pitts is fitted with two jet turbines which "deliver 700lbs thrust and in combination with the 8.5 Ltr Lycoming, a total thrust of 1700lbs".
Many thanks for the support, your comment deserves to be pinned! 👍
So you SEE a difference in the plane's flight envelope, when compared to non-jet Pitts?
@@almostbutnotentirelyunreas166
The two jet engines put out 700 lbs. of thrust. That will improve performance of the aircraft. How much is hard to say unless you have 2 Twin Pitts aircraft flying the same patterns of flight at the same time. One without the jets the other with them.
The fact he was ground taxiing with only the jet engines shows they add some performance.
Dont get all the negative comments. U dont like it,dont watch. Its still an amazing display
@@janadams2220 Strawman fallacy: Never said I didn't like it, just asked if one could SEE any difference in the (already stupendous) flight envelope of the P Special. So: can YOU see any difference? Me? Naw, in the right hands, I cannot see a difference.
Never said this before about a plane but it's angry and that's awesome.
That is ONE VERY FINE PIECE OF WORK YOU DID RIGHT THERE!
BUILD, SCHEME, AND SCRAMBLE FLYING AS WELL!
GREAT JOB MAN!
Good job keeping him in the frame!
Insane perpendicular-climb!
Awesome aircraft, outstanding flying skills, and fantastic capturing of this flight!
Wow. Great footage of an amazing display
SUPERB airmanship and control; lots of cross inputs. Wow!
I absolutely love that paintjob on the new jett pitts
I saw him perform at an airshow once (but not in this modified pitts), it was incredible
Amazing 😮
I saw Jimmy Franklin fly his jet Waco years ago. That was a fun act.
Very nice 👌
Balls of Steel!
No brass and polished!

Fred Cabanas would love it!
haha those torque rolls were ridiculous 😀
Um , what sorcery and madness is this
There's old pilots and bold pilots but not many old bold pilots
an extra 70% thrust outta be interesting at the controls, a fast pitts is already something to watch so its hard to just watch a video and say oh yea those turbines really spiced that up, i would love to see another 1000lb thrust pitts do a few moves against to put the jet pitts into context, the show looked good to me and it taxing on the wet field at a good clip at what sounded like 1/2 throttle clearly shows they aren't for decoration
Would be interesting to link the rudder control with asymmetrical thrust of the jets. This would eventually support the rudder efficiency for advanced maneuvers like knife edge loop or similar..
When fighter jet engines are involved in maneuvers it's not the throttle, it's directional exhaust. I am not sure they'd be amenable to rapid changes like that.
That would introduce unwanted wash effects on the elevators and induce dramatic unwanted variable roll.
I'm guessing the Jets are for novelty, and put out so little thrust vs. weight and fuel. It's more the flame and noise/whine
hmm, do the "jets" actually provide any thrust, or just make smoke for the display...?
you didn't watch the clip till the end did you? How do you think he taxi's with no main engine?😮🤗
@@gibbs677bg yes i did give up before the end :)
@PRH123 the engine has the smoke system not the turbines.
Great vid. I caught him at Cosford last year, without the jets. Absolutely amazing pilot. Incredible display. Well filmed bud 👍
What/how is it certificated? UK has no Experimental category.
Experimental
-10 Garrett would have really stole the show.
How did that even get type approval?
The plane even without the engines is experimental…..
Looks like the corners of his elevator are getting cooked.
I get dizzy just watching this :)
Pits trimotor
Just couldn't get with it without engine sounds .
JIM FRANKLINS JET WACO MADE A FANTASTIC AIRSHOW ACT...THE J85 ON IT TURNED IT INTO A REAL ROCKET SHIP
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
The jet engines seem like nothing more than a gimmick. Looks cool though. 👍
7:50 he sees nothing rtight in front. Now the jets make sense, if he hit something, he wont slice it to pieces
By the grace of God, go i
is it a jet augmented pitt’s or one with a turboprop?
Did you not see the two RC jet engines on the sides?
Skip Stewart does more without jet engines.😂
Long Live Stewart!
Agree 💯 percent 👍🏻
...doesn’t burn as much jet fuel 🤷♂️
Why not just replace the Lycoming with an Alison 250 or some other turboshaft and be done with it.
What's with the sound going in and out? Pretty annoying for such a cool plane and good looking video!
So the "jets" have enough power to taxi the aircraft at 15mph. What am I missing? Why not just give the plane another 50hp or a turboprop?
That's my take as well!!
I doubt that the jets (350lb thrust each ?really?) and their fuel load actually make any difference to the performance over the 300hp motor out front. Now if he could shut down and feather the Lycoming and continue a routine, then THAT would be worth watching.
More fun doing it than watching...
moar fuel burn!
Don't like that torching on startup. That can't be good for the turbine.
The fact that people make copyright claims when their music is captured in the background of LIFE is beyond retarded. If you don't want people to hear the music, don't sell it to people.
Dont understand your comment. R u beating those who have to remove sound because of copyright or u saying copyright is a pain?
@@janadams2220
I'm saying that the copyright holder claiming the rights to ambient sound if their song happens to be playing in the background is dumb. It would be different if someone added the music in the editing process.
I agree. But there are lots of unjustified negative comments on the post because of compliance with uk copyright law
@@janadams2220
My comment is not a negative comment towards the poster, but towards the greedy overreach of the copyright holders.
@@A.J.1656 well thats good to hear it came across that we were retarded .
My guess is the pilot didn't want them the sponsors did. Badass paint job though. Take the added weight off lol
The only reason for this guy to leave the wings attached seems to be because he still needs the ailerons!🤣🤣🤣
No that would be the Jet Waco.
To bad your sound is messed up
Unfortunately copyrighted music was being blasted throughout the display. Audio had to be muted to avoid a copyright strike :/
????
Dont u understand copyright law???
@@chinneylowfly Ya right. My friend makes videos at airshows with music with no issues.
@Mikeylikesit1968 I'd like to know how your friend does it? RUclipss content ID automatically picks up on it and flags copyrighted audio. I'd love to share the unedited version however I don't want to risk a strike against my channel.
"I wonder what will happen if I strap a couple of RC jet engines to my Pitts?"
Not a heck of a lot, apparently. What a dilbert... 😂😂😂
Jet boost..not a true Jet Pitts..ive seen him and talked to hiim
Hell why don't you just make the entire wings out of jatos .
Poor audio !!!
Wtf is up with the sound?
Copyright law!! Cant the skill of the pilot not be recognised without music??
@@janadams2220 no I don’t care about the music, I wanna hear the dual engine sounds. I hate music with aviation.
Me too . But we have to cut out the music from the recording to meet statutory copyright regulations.
Having seen normal pitts in action over the years, I was expecting more. I’m just sayin, you say, “Pitts! Now with jet engines!!!” And everyone tunes in to see MORE PERFORMANCE. So anyone criticizing all of the so called “negative nellies” aren’t really respecting the viewers expectations. And if you were amazed by this. Well. I have a bridge to sell you, near some oceanfront property in Missouri.
funny, but i think it's the next "super pitts" to set his pilot in a plastic bag, amazing how many of those improved pitts ended bad
What I'm seeing and hearing don't match....
Ridiculous
Cant see the point really
Cant see the point of what? Why watch if you're not interested other than to be negative
@janadams2220 just to anoy people like you 🥰
It wud be good if you could use your time more productively. Volunteer for a local project
You’ve messed around with the sound and messed it right up 👎🏼
meh
This is the worst video ever seen cuz no audio keeps kicking in and out it's ridiculous very boring video no audio when he goes up and you are just the audio goes out very badly recording
Have you not heard of copyright law!!!
Are u just online to make bad comments or do u really not appreciate excellent flying skills?
A little jet sound here and there and taxiing in, other than that, there was zero performance gained during the display, I doubt they were even used during the routine. You really don’t have time to manage another throttle lever anyway. A skilled performer is constantly managing the speed or two hands on the stick for the G loads.
Computers exist, throttle for jets is electronic annyway.
Edit: you can actually hear them blowing hard when he is "hovering on the propeller".
Disagr
Tks Karen
Guys, the jets are for show only. I’ve seen probably two dozen performers over the years do the hover maneuver and none of them had auxiliary jet engines.
Oh dear a keyboard pilot.
We need clouds, we can't see anything because no clouds :).
There was nothing special to see.
What's the point......nothing but a gimmick..
Tell that to Rich Goodwin
